Bomb Blasts: Govt. To Procure Artificial Limbs For Victims In South Africa by fd4all234(m): 9:36am On Jun 08, 2011 |
After six months in hospital receiving treatment, victims of last year December 31 bomb blast in Mogadishu barrack, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja are to be flown to South Africa to get artificial limbs. A military sergeant and two women who lost their limbs in the incident are among those to be flown abroad in an arrangement being made by the FCT administration. This is as victims of May 29 Democracy Day bomb blast in Zuba, would also be among those who would benefit from the oversea treatment which is expected to take effect in a week time. Disclosing this in Abuja yesterday while on an inspection visit to the Asokoro District Hospital and the Wuse General Hospital where some of the victims are currently undergoing treatment, the FCT Permanent Secretary, Dr. Biodun Olorunfemi said the FCTA would collaborate with the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA to facilitate the immediate transfer of the affected victims. This according him is to rehabilitate them and also procure artificial limbs for those who lost some parts of their bodies adding that the procurement process for the installation of hi-tech digital surveillance equipment in Abuja has reached an advanced stage. His words: “They (doctors) are going to take all the measures required now to ensure that they follow up their treatment when they are discharged and also to make sure that they can socially get back into life. The people who are going abroad are just the current bomb blast victims who have lost their limbs. The limbs will be replaced in South Africa . We just want to be sure that this is done very quickly and within the next one week, all that should be completed and done”. The Permanent Secretary stated that the Federal Government would soon begin the installation of Closed Circuit television Cameras at strategic locations in the city in order to monitor the activities of criminals and stem the tide of bomb blasts. “The procurement process for that has gone far. Any moment from now, they will begin some of those installations of the CCTVs but I am sure you also know that there are other security arrangements that also have TV network but which government does not really have to disclose to the public.” |
