Between 1999 through 2007, Atiku Abubakar served as Nigeria's Vice President. The former vice president was also the Peoples Democratic Party's presidential contender (PDP).

For twenty years, the Adamawa-born politician served for the Nigerian Customs Service. Before retiring in April 1989, he was the service's Deputy Director.

Since becoming a politician, the former vice president has joined six different political parties. They are as follows:

1. Peoples Front of Nigeria (PFN)

Atiku met General Shehu Musa Yar'Adua, who had been second-in-command during Obasanjo's military regime towards the end of his career in the Customs Service.

Atiku was introduced to PFN by Yar'Adua, and he was made the National Vice Chairman of the party in 1989.
