Whether you're at home or on the go, insulin pens provide the benefits of accuracy, convenience and confidence for people with diabetes. Here's how to use it safely and easily.

Step 1: Remove the cap or cap.

If using cream (intermediate-acting) insulin, gently roll the pen between palms for 15 seconds to mix. Continue with the remaining steps.

Step 2: Get your needles ready.

A. Pull the piece of paper off the stylus. *
B. Thread the needle onto the insulin end of the pen.
C. Remove the outer needle cover.
D. Remove the inner needle cover to expose the needle. Throw the inner needle cap in the trash.

*Pen needles are available in a variety of sizes. Seek advice from your diabetes educator or pharmacist.

Step 3: Get the pen ready.

A. Prime the pen and clear air from needle. This adjusts the pen and needle for good accuracy when it's time to measure your insulin dose. Turn the dose selector knob at end of the pen to 1 or 2 units (watch dose markings change with turning of knob).
B. Hold the pen with needle pointing upward. Press dose knob up completely while watching for insulin drop or stream to appear. Repeat, if necessary, until insulin is seen at needle tip. The dial should be back at zero after completing the priming step.

Using a pen is a relatively easy process. Some pens require gentle shaking before use. Once the cartridge is loaded, screw on a needle and prime the pen to clear air. Then dial in the exact dose that you require to deliver the insulin to the body. Visit Vansea Medical insulin pen factory
