Yes, you read that right. In 1970, Members of the US National Guard opened fire on unarmed students who were protesting the war in Vietnam. Eventually, charges against the members of the National Guard who opened fire were dropped, a statement of regret (not an apology) was issued and the State Government offered an out of court settlement to the victims/victims families about 9 years later.
