When will killing of Christians and innocent citizens cease in Nigeria?

This was the poser, as tears and wailing rent the air, on Thursday, when 40 residents killed by bandits, in Mallagum and Sogwon communities in Kaura Local Government Area(LGA) of Kaduna State were buried.

According to media reports, all the brutally murdered persons, were members of the Catholic and ECWA dominations.

This massacre, has continued to spark rage and sorrow among the Christian faithful, with many prominent church leaders calling for urgent and decisive action against this unjustifiable and unwarranted killings.

The genocide against Christians and innocent citizens have persisted for several decades, but worsened recently, with the rise of Islamic radicalism and terrorism, particularly in northern Nigeria, the Sahel region, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Arab nations.

All efforts by the international community to stop this monumental violence by jihadists, have proved futile.

The carnage has reached astronomical levels, leaving the nation traumatized and security, virtually hapless.

Critics blame the authorities for this anarchy.

However, the church along with prominent citizens and concerned international groups, are intensifying efforts to halt the menace on several fronts.

Spiritual, political, social, legislative and humanitarian measures are all part of the mix.

Nevertheless many Christians, who spoke to this writer, expressed outrage over the butchery and stressed the need for more and concerted efforts to end the dastardly acts.

Some of the responses are stated below.

“Why have the perpetrators not been apprehended so far,” some asked?

For others, “Faith without works is dead, hence security operatives must go after the criminals. Justice must be served to deter others from this lawlessness.”

“It is important to escalate information, through the media, political statements, warnings, interviews, editorials as well as every action, local and international mobilization about the brutal killings and persecution of brethren in Southern Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, South West, South East, South South and other parts of Nigeria.”

“Brethren can add impetus to this campaign and mission by deploying Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp and other social media platforms and mainstream media, newspapers, blogs, pictures, websites, TV, Radio, Videos and seminars.

“Corporate actions by Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN), Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria(PFN), Evangelical Fellowship of Anglican Church, Orthodox churches, Christian fellowships and organisations, will also boost the interventions, even as prayers and other spiritual efforts will continue pari passu.”

“Indisputably, a collective action by all stakeholders, including government, politicians and community leaders will, sooner than later, rattle the conscience of some Christians and noble citizens, who are covertly or overtly supporting a Fulani Muslim or the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket.”

“The burden of enthroning another Muslim presidency, can only be imagined than experienced. Where is the justice in the pursuit of Muslim presidency?”

“What happened to the sacred federal character, that has been used, perpetually, to enthrone mediocrity over merit in the police, army, customs, immigration, federal establishments and unity schools.”

“The orchestrated plan against the leading Christian presidential candidate, in this political dispensation, is an albatross that may well advance or afflict this sleeping giant, a land full of promises and prospects, but currently being asphyxiated by wicked rulers.”

“Any plan for another Muslim ascendancy, is akin to crucifying Northern Christians on the cross, irrespective of the reasons, most of which are spurious.”

“One thing is sure. No one can fight against the Almighty God and prevail. Since 1948, the Arab league, has fought assiduously to annihilate Israel, but has continued to fail.”

“This offers hope that Jehovah will never abdicate his promise to his children in Nigeria and all nations, where Christians are being constantly killed and decimated.”

Clearly, the 2023 election will no doubt be a watershed in the annals of Nigeria's history.

Esau sold his divinely-given birthright for porridge.

A resounding prayer for the faithful prayer is this: "May no Christian be counted among people, who sold Nigeria to Islamic oligarchy, after a traumatic reign of the current traumatic dictatorship."

“All efforts to capture the fertile land of Benue, NC, and South through RUGA and Water Resources Bill failed face down.”

“So shall all nefarious activities being orchestrated by the enemies of Christ, the church and Nigeria face in Jesus name. Amen.”

Indeed this is no time for procrastination, flimsy excuses or grandstanding.

The nation is at a cross road. It is time for men and women of good will to stand and be counted for Christ and justice, in word and in deed, as Phinehas.

Individual predilections and tribal allegiance should be jettisoned for the national unity and progress.

The stakes are high. The battle for the soul of Nigeria is fierce and ferocious.

The urgency to save the country cannot be over-emphasized.

Vote wisely and secure the future of this blessed nation.
