Napss At The End Of History: Arisekola As The Last Man Standing by NationalReports: 7:15pm On Sep 10, 2023
The Unilorin Chapter of NAPSS has a lengthy history of leaders coming onboard to render selfless service to humanity. We played our part to serve the students in a way that makes them better individuals, enlighten them, have hope in democratic dividends, make school worth while and project NAPSS in positive light. Life is a stage and we all played our role.

These efforts had their limitations in finances, time, access, administrative bottlenecks, cooperation of stakeholders, commitment, proper planning, courage, will, etc.

On making NAPSSites better individuals, the initiative of observing parliamentary sessions at the KWHA was birthed a long time ago, to expose the would-be Political scientist to legislative practice and also avail them the opportunity to interact with lawmakers. This has been emulated by virtually all subsequents adminstrations. In similarly vein, the first entrepreneur program was equally pursued to encourage skills.

To make Homopoliticus stay on campus worthwhile, NAPSS held her maiden cultural night where top stars like Lateef Adedimeji, Obesere, Femi Adebayo, Lanko Theory and others were in attendance. This is still being talked about till date. Subsequently, the idea of the first ever student party with a live band was conceived and executed. The annual picnic and dinner has also been sustained even at times it was most inconvenient for those at the helms of affairs.

Organizing our public lecture and Classic magazine yearly has over the years been a challenge due to resources and other factors. However, most NAPSS President recognized the importance of these as a tool for enlightenment. It got better when we held a 3in1; public lecture, magazine launch and first ever inter-university debate. NAPSS gloriously made it to the pages of Herald Newspaper with this.

Unilorin became a force to reckon in NAPSS Nigeria, a stand which it failed to maintain over the years due to consistent absence at the National convention.

In campus politics, with emphasis on the faculty of social sciences which of course is the closest and the somewhat keenest to us. Before now we produced the first and only Faculty President from Political science after the rename of the faculty about a decade ago.

In sport NAPSS did wonderfully well, but the memories of winning a Sub-Dean’s (Fresher) seems fresher than that of winning the big prize (Dean’s cup). Equally, the H.O.D’s cup has become a major avenue to promote sport among students internally.

The much promised NAPSS Secretariat was achieved after several efforts from different administration.

Lest we forget the laudable initiative as notebooks as souvenirs to students with the motive of it being one of the projects that can actually go round the populace.

The aforementioned and others not listed were achieved through day and night toiling, sleeping on empty stomach, bankruptcy, consistent borrowing and other sacrifices and hardships which makes it almost impossible for every administration to have a pass mark in all the major aspects that defines adminstrative success.

We were filled with hopes that one day, the last man will come. Emerging in Frank Fukuyama analysis at a time that he will surmount all hurdles. It was our aspiration that hopefully the one who will break the shackles of the unending hardships constraining leaders from achieving optimally will come. When this man arrives, history will end.

The end of history doesn’t signify the end of existence or events, but the end of trying times and poor administration, because the last man has discovered the best way to do things. It is the beginning of a new epoch of greatness. Surely, NAPSS is bigger than all of us. It’s a stage awaiting numerous talented artists.

And thus the last man emerged,
Changing the narratives,
Many saw him coming,
But they didn’t envisage the feats,
He proved himself,
Learnt from experience,
Networked his way,
He saw it through,
All in one administration,
Making the most out of it,
The accident came along the line,
Gold went through fire,
Surely it was refined,
It fared brighter and better,
He survived,
Just because he was destined,
Like a chick that was going to crow at old age,
May history be kind to you,
Posterity will haunt you for good,
TRULY UNSURPASSED!!!

He had a public lecture graced by the sitting Governor of Kwara State & the Spokesman to the said Governor was one of the panelist of the program. Produced another Faculty President from Political Science after a decade that it last happened, more interestingly, the said Madam President is the first ever female to either seek or win election into this office. The administration was able to assist the less privileged in the society through outreach. He won the FOSSSA Champions League (Dean’s cup). Executive seat(s) were won at NAPSS NIGERIA. Air condition and arm chairs were bought for offices as souvenirs. Symposium held on Youth & challenges of electoral participation, the lecture was delivered by a former Minister of Sports & Youth Development. The administration is ending by unveiling of a pavilion in honour of Governor H.E. AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq and an outreach to the prison to provide succor to inmates.

It will be injustice not to recognize few of your colleagues who shared the stage with you in this administration as shinning lights of the great department; Ahmed Fasasi (Unilorin Senate President), Aiodun Abdullah (Unilorin Public Relations Officer, P.R.O) Abiodun Jamiu (Speaker, Faculty of Social Science), Azeez Oriyomi (Commissioner, Unilorin Independent Anti-Corrupt Practices Commission, UISAPC), Akeem Ololade (Coach), Rahmat Akinkule (Honourable, NAPSS Student Rep. Council), Olayide Soaga (E-I-C 8th Edition of NAPSS Classic Magazine), Doyinsola Teru (Social Science Vice President), Shalom Ekene (Former NAPSS Vice President) and many others too numerous to mention.

Like I fondly say in those days, My NAPSS my pleasure our NAPSS our priority.

This is indeed the end of history in NAPSS Unilorin Chapter and Arisekola is the last man. Best of luck as you proceed President Raheem Azeez Arisekola. May NAPSS Unilorin continue to grow in strength.
