friend, "Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. Also, "Pray without ceasing." - 1Th 5:17.  Particularly when you feel tempted or distracted.  Pray.

Stay in the holy word of GOD and in pray asking GOD for strength.  one cannot do it alone, we need The Lord JESUS CHRIST.  "I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." - John 15:5. Not by one's power or might, but by The Holy Spirit of GOD. - Zec_4:6

Read and watch good books and movies 4. Emulate great personalities of reputable integrity and walk in their steps 5. Have a vision, Pray and worship God always in your mind. Brother, I must thank God on your behave that you desire to live a holy life in this corrupt world.

First, I must tell you that it is very possible for you to live above sin. In fact, that is the purpose for which Jesus came and died “that He might destroy the work of the devil”.

Now, living above sin is not something you can do by yourself. You don’t have the power. There is a nature in man that makes a man to sin even if he doesn’t want to sin. “For that which I do, I allow not: for what I would, that I do not; but what I hate that do I” Rom 7:15. Also, verse 18: “for I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) dwelleth no good thing; for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not”. As you can see, what you are going through is not peculiar to you. It is the state of everyman before he knows Christ or become totally hardened.

The Good News is: Jesus Christ was sent to circumcise our heart and take away that nature of sin. But you say: Oh! I know that already and I believe it. Good, but that is where we miss it. There are three big steps to salvation – Hear the Word, believe the gospel and trust in the saving grace of Christ. Now, most people stop at believing. “Believe simply means “giving intellectual assent to a truth”. The Dictionary says, “to consent with the mind.” So, simply believing cannot save nor can it give you victory over sin and self. Even the bible confirms that the demons believe Jesus is the Son of God but it does not change their life and their doom is certain, therefore, they tremble.

Now, my good friend, if you want to be saved from Sin; you must take the third step – “trust Jesus wholly”. When the Phillipian jailer asked the question, “What must I do to be saved?” The answer in The New English Bible is, “Put your trust in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved: (Acts 16: 30 – 31). Again and again instead of “believe” it is “put your faith in” or put your trust in the Lord Jesus” That has nothing whatever to do with intellect; that has to do with the will, and it demands a decision. Multitudes there are who “believe” who has never “trusted”. Brother Kumuyi gave this definition of faith and I love it so much

F – forsaking
A – all
I – I
T – trust
H – Him

Forsaking all, I trust Him.

Trust excludes effort. Maybe you have been trying all along to live a righteous life by yourself. No! it doesn’t work that way. You need to put your trust in the Lord Jesus and let him deal with that sin. It’s like learning to float. Moreover, until I totally put my trust in God, I could not live above sin. I was strongly addicted to sex; I lie with ease. In fact, I could not stay without sex for two days. I had chains of girlfriend and I chase new ones almost every day. Sometimes I took bike from V.I. Lagos to Abule-Egba just to meet some girl. It was so pathetic! Sometimes, I felt so bad for what I was doing but I could not control it. To the glory of God, one day I met Jesus and I totally put my trust in Him and I was given victory over sin and the flesh. In addition, after you have been saved, you must take some steps to ensure continuous glorious Christian life.

1. Study and meditate on your bible constantly “and they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony” Rev 12: 11; “thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee” Pls 119: 11. “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” 1Pet 2:2 Also Joshua 1: 8.

2. Pray without ceasing. A lot of Christians have failed in this regard and that’s why there’s so much sin in the land. Remember the garden of Gethsemane when our Lord was faced with the tempter, He prayed and was encouraged by the angels. We receive strength from God when we pray. “…continuing instant in prayer” Rom 12:12

3. Run from any form of temptation. Check yourself and think of anything that can easily lead you to sin and run from it. E.G, pornographic movies, dirty songs.

4. Run from any bad friend that can easily lead you back to sin. When I first gave my life to Jesus, I thought I could meet up with my girl-friends, tell them what happened and cut off the relationships. But I couldn’t because I was still very young in the Lord and the flesh was pushing me to remember the bad things we did together. I latter had to blacklist their numbers on my phone. Many called for months but they could not reach me and I did not return any of their calls. I also had a colleague in the office was always a bad influence on me; I don’t know how God did it, but he was redeployed from my office to another branch and I’ve not seen him ever since. “be not deceived, evil communications corrupt good manners” 1 Cor 15: 33

5. Resist the devil. Temptation will always come because you soul is precious and the devil wants to have it. Therefore, you must be watchful and anytime the tempter comes, resist him instantly with the word of God. Listen, many at times when the devil drops one suggestion or the other on my mind, I don’t waste time not ponder on it, I speak the word and I commands him to leave me in the name of the Lord and you know what, he’s a coward, he runs. But don’t be surprised, he’ll come back and you’ll be ready for him with the word. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” 1 Pet 4:7.

6. Fellowship with true children of God. Look for a church that preaches the truth of the Word and fellowship with them. Have friends that love God and it will help you. Get a prayer partner.

7. Preach the Gospel. It will help you to know the word of God more. I you wouldn’t want to do what you preach against.

8. Watch over your heart. Be careful of what you allow to enter and linger in your heart. “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” Mat 12: 34
