1. NLC Indefinite Strike: Labour unions caused a nationwide blackout by shutting down the national grid early on Monday morning (https://nigerianews247.com/nigeria-news/ASUU-joins-nlc-tuc-nationwide-strike-over-minimum-wage/). This action marked the beginning of an indefinite strike in response to the lack of progress in negotiations regarding the minimum wage.
2. FG Agrees to set Minimum Wage above N60,000: Following the declaration of an indefinite strike by organized labor, the Federal Government has agreed to set a minimum wage exceeding N60,000. A communique was issued at the conclusion of the meeting where this agreement was reached.
3. NLC Strike Enters the Second Day: Organized Labor remains steadfast in their commitment to continue the indefinite strike, which was launched due to the delay in finalizing the National Minimum Wage negotiations and enacting it into law, as well as the controversial increase in electricity tariffs. The strike has now entered its second day.
4. Hoodlums intercept Enforcers of NLC Strike in Jos: On Monday, hoodlums targeted a group of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) members who were enforcing the indefinite strike in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. The assault, orchestrated by unruly individuals at a private transportation company, resulted in several of the strike enforcers being hospitalized.
5. MURIC frowns at the ongoing NLC Strike: The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has expressed concern about the impact of the ongoing labor strike on Nigerian pilgrims and the airlifting operations of NAHCON. According to MURIC, aviation workers on strike caused a plane destined for Saudi Arabia to depart empty instead of carrying Nigerian pilgrims.
6. Tambuwal to Tinubu: Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor of Sokoto State and current senator for Sokoto South, has advised President Bola Tinubu to refrain from disassociating himself from the administrative shortcomings of Muhammadu Buhari. Tambuwal made this statement during a meeting with stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto, emphasizing that Tinubu cannot distance himself from Buhari's failures as he was also involved in them.
7. Economy: OPay, the fintech firm, has restated its firm stance against cryptocurrency and virtual asset trading on its platform. Emphasizing its dedication to compliance with laws and regulations, the company underscores the importance of safeguarding the financial system's stability and security.
