A 30-year old night guard, Muritala Muhammad, and four others have been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly arranging with robbers at night while on duty to burgle a house in a community, which he was employed to secure.

According to information available to The Eagle Online, they were arrested by operatives of Ogijo Police Division.

Others arrested alongside Muhammad were Aliyu Umaru, 36; Anas Kabiru, 28; Amusa Umaru, 20.

Their arrest followed a report at Ogijo Police Division by one Lateefat Ologunro, who claimed she received a distress call from her neighbour that thieves broke into her compound.

The Eagle Online was told that following the report, police detectives from Ogijo Division swung into action to unveil those behind the robbery.

Following an intelligence-led investigation, they were able to arrest the suspects.

According to a police source: “The following items were reportedly stolen from the house; one refrigerator valued N65,000, 32′ Inches Plasma TV value yet unknown, one OX standing fan value yet unknown, one 12kg cooking gas cylinder value yet unknown, one small size of gas cylinder value yet unknown, clothes and shoes value yet unknown, electrical cable wire value yet unknown as well as some properties not yet ascertained.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Muritala Muhammad who happened to be a night security guard in the community was the one that always invited other thieves and collaborated in perpetrating the crime.”

The spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the development to The Eagle Online.

According to Odutola, a Superintendent of Police, the tactical team from the station, upon receipt of the information, raced to the scene and smoked out the one of the thieves that was hiding in the ceiling, while the others fled to escape arrest.

She said the fleeing suspects, in the course of in-depth interrogation, were traced and arrested.

She said investigations are ongoing and on completion, the suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution.
