ADVOCACY VISIT FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS AT NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY, AWKA

A team of representatives from the Visually Impaired Students' Association of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (VISNUA) with the mandate of the Centre for Disability and Special Needs Research (CENDASNER) conducted a successful advocacy and courtesy visits to the Office of the Chief Librarian today. The purpose of the visit was to address the pressing needs for a well-equipped resource facility for visually impaired students at the university.

According to the President of VISNUA, Miss Enoch Chioma Lilian, the advocacy team was led by Mr. Meze Chinedu, the association's Secretary General, along with the treasurer, Uduchukwu Rejoice, a member of the association, Eyibio Patience, and a volunteer, met with Professor Stella Ifeoma Nancy, the Chief Librarian of the University to discuss the current status of the University's resource center for visually impaired students.

During the meeting, Professor Stella Ifeoma Nancy acknowledged the existing resource center but highlighted the significant lack of essential equipment necessary for the academic needs of visually impaired students. She also expressed her openness to partnering with individuals or organizations willing to support the cause, and even mentioned the possibility of naming the resource center after a generous benefactor who could provide the necessary funds for its complete equipment.

In response, Meze Chinedu, on behalf of the association, expressed gratitude for Professor Stella's transparency and commitment to addressing the challenges faced by visually impaired students at the university. The team members appreciated her dedication to seeking potential partners and fundraising opportunities to ensure the resource center's comprehensive equipment, ultimately aiming to enhance the academic performance and overall experience of visually impaired students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The Visually Impaired Students' Association is hopeful that this advocacy visit will lead to positive developments in the accessibility and support available for visually impaired students and staff at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
