Every car owner at some point has felt the frustration that comes with driving and seeing smoke come out from under their hood; overheating. And while this is entirely normal, if not contained by taking the necessary precautionary methods, it can cause your engine to become too hot, which can in turn cause permanent car damage.

When driving and you notice your car is overheating, please park. Driving any further can limit the chances of reversing permanent damage.

Here are some of the causes of overheating in your car and how to avoid it.

1. Low coolant levels

This one in particular can be a sneaky culprit behind overheating issues! It is normal for your engine to be hot while it's running. Regardless, your coolant is supposed to do the work of cooling it down to prevent overheating. Think of the coolant like your car's personal AC—it keeps things chill under the hood. If the coolant levels get too low, your engine can quickly start malfunctioning.
So, make sure to regularly check your coolant levels to avoid "Chairman, abeg you fit help me push this motor go that mechanic workshop, e no gree start".
