Introducing the Archbishop-Elect of the Port Harcourt Archdiocese of the Methodist Church Nigeria, His Grace, Most Rev. Dr. Effiong Esedeke

Born on November 24th, 1961, Dr. Effiong Esedeke is the fourth of seven children and the first son in his family. His educational journey began at Methodist Central School, Oyubia, followed by Salvation Army Secondary School, Akai-Ubium. He furthered his studies at the Methodist Theological Institute, Umuahia, and then at the University of Calabar. His academic pursuits took him overseas to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, USA, and he also attended a workshop on Social Science Research Methodology at Bayreuth University, Germany. Dr. Esedeke earned his Doctor of Ministry (D.Min) degree.

Before his election as Archbishop of the Port Harcourt Archdiocese, Dr. Esedeke served with distinction as the Methodist Bishop of the Diocese of Nkek Abak. He is a seasoned leader, well-traveled both within Nigeria and internationally. Archbishop Esedeke hails from Ukuko 2 in Urue-Offong Oruko Local Government Area.

Driven by his passion for community development, Archbishop Esedeke established Blessedland College in Ukuko 2, a school designed to serve Ukuko 2, Ibotong Nsie, and Ibotong Uko—areas that previously lacked primary and secondary schools. His dedication to education is further exemplified by his donation of educational grants to deserving students, of which the writer is a beneficiary.

A distinguished teacher, leader, and restorer, Archbishop Esedeke has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to the spiritual and social growth of the communities he serves. He is married to Mrs. Comfort Effiong Esedeke, and they are blessed with four children.

Throughout his ministry, Archbishop Esedeke has been unwavering in his dedication to nurturing faith, fostering unity, and promoting peace among the congregations under his care. His leadership has not only strengthened the Methodist Church but also positively impacted the wider society.

Beyond his religious responsibilities, Archbishop Esedeke has been deeply involved in humanitarian efforts. He has led numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing education, healthcare, and social welfare, particularly for the underprivileged. His vision extends well beyond the church, seeking to create meaningful change in the lives of those he serves.

As he assumes his new role as Archbishop of the Port Harcourt Archdiocese, Archbishop Esedeke is set to bring his extensive experience, wisdom, and compassion to this new chapter. His leadership is anticipated to herald a new era of growth and transformation within the Archdiocese, continuing the legacy of service and dedication that has defined his remarkable journey.
