This (the photo) is the popular belief among Islamic clerics anywhere in the world. The use of the brain is relegated to the background in favor of following anything the Qur'an and Sunnah say.

This is why the clerics see freethinkers, who put emphasis on the use of the brain above anything else (including following a god's injunctions), as evil people.

GrammarNazi1 and A001 I agree with several of your points especially when A001 talked about some enlightened ones who use codes tap into the metaphysical. We see it in form of incantations and spells in our locality. Where I'm coming from is I believe there are spirits that most times influence the activities of some of these happenings once their "codes" are spoken or written out. I have seen a popular guy in my area few years back suddenly come out of his jeep, stripped himself naked and was dancing around. This was someone who threw a party the day before though the rumours going around were somebody sent him a spiritual bullet cause we knew him as a g boy. This one even cashed out self.
What of where I worked in my teens where a cult clash happened. The victim who was also a dangerous cultist too was shot with several bullets but it didn't penetrate him which made the rivals switch to cutlass and sharp iron which made him later hospitalized with fatal injuries because they thought they killed him. This one is not lies, I worked with the junior brother and everyone who was present at that time confirmed it cause I was sent by my boss to print something for him at that time. I also have like two but I can't share all here.
I'm not doubting the fact that enlightened people can tap into the metaphysical to bend existing phenomena to their favour but I also know there are spirits we can't see that also give powers for these sort of things to happen. That's why in my place there's a popular saying that where another man juju end, na where another man own begin.
Lols, na you dey call them spirits. Shey you yourself no be spirit? Lols.

Even your dead relatives are also spirits, so are mine.

No be only us human beings dey live in this world. Reality is just like layers of onions, with each layer of reality occupied by living systems (humans and the likes), existing independently of one another and separated by an energy barrier.

When a person dies, they continue to exist in one of such layers (they are infinite). Though, they're already existing there as we speak, but they don't know.

Such is the complex nature of time.

The underlying math and physics for this is what I mentioned the other day: ring theory, group theory, automorphism, isomorphism, and others.

About incantations, spells and the likes, those are just codes (special words and symbols). Or you can call them equations and functions.

All these can (and do) have an effect on a person's brain, the machine that builds their perception (the picture) of what they see as reality.

Those instances you mentioned are some of the applications of these codes (Gbotija recited such a code in the movie, "Jagun Jagun" to communicate with the arrow he threw and manipulated the perception of his audience to his advantage).

Na the average people dey see that scene as just a movie scene. But that's exactly how the ancient people used to apply that knowledge of physics and math in the past in that scenario and few people with such knowledge also do the same thing in modern times.

It has a lot of applications in other areas of life, even in treatments of diseases.

You make a lot of sense here. I am close to agreeing but let me do some thinking.
Okay, when people are discussing science in the theoretical stage, or even if it's established science, it's always good to research and think critically about things yourself because even in what's called established science, there are many wrong ideas (limitations), faulty assumptions, and the likes.

It was some of such limitations (wrong ideas) that great thinkers like Newton, Einstein, Dirac, Schrodinger, and the likes discovered and improved further in the established science of their time to develop a new science.

And this allowed them to write their names on the sands of time.

A001, you may be on to something. It is a well known fact that the priests of ancient Egypt sentenced a man to death for exposing the secrets of papyrus manufacturing to outsiders. The ancient world was full of such cautionary tales and allegories —the agony of Prometheus, the garden of Eden and the tree of knowledge of good and evil

The ancient Egyptians most probably figured out how to harness electricity and create devices capable of capacitance but such knowledge was only revealed to the initiates of the priestly class and for the rest, it was regarded as magical abilities

However until everything is replicable in a controlled environment, it is all theoretical conjecture
That was a common practice in other relatively developed parts of Africa and even other relatively developed parts of the world as well at various times in the past. It wasn't limited to just ancient Egypt.

It's one of their ways of protecting their knowledge from being stolen and misused in ancient times.

However, such a practice has its downsides (like what we've been witnessing today about the way people use words like "juju", "voodoo" ignorantly).

In modern times, we use technology (different software programs and the likes) and various laws to do this (intellectual property protection), such as encryption techs, various intellectual property (IP) laws, and the likes.

All these have their downsides as well.

About the replication aspect, research work in science is done in stages and follows specific, well-laid-down protocols.

What I stated in that post are in the theoretical stage. However, for some thinkers, once you see the physics and math for something, and those are sound and logical, its applications (the techs to be built from the physics and math) are just around the corner, especially if such applications had already been developed in the past (extinct) eras.

What then remains is for many smart people to brainstorm and come up with ways to apply the knowledge in building technologies.

So, personally, I'm not even bothered about things like conjecture, etc. because some of the applications are things I use for my own personal activities.

My learned egbon forget. Though I of course believe in the potency of science and the advancement technology has brought to us over the decades I can't argue against voodoo because I've indirectly experienced it. It exists boss though truly they are of course people who have mastered various phenomena to be able to bend it to their own will and instruction like some witch doctors. There might also be a thin line between it and science cause some of these scientific discoveries day by day look like I would say magic to most of us especially the illiterates or non exposed in Africa but as long as the spiritual realm exists, the other realm apart from our physical bodies I can't argue against it's existence boss especially in a lawless and somewhat backward country like ours where some tap into it to perform their various mischiefs.
Lols, I understand you clearly. I used to reason like this too when I was religious during my university days.

But life isn't like that. I didn't say voodoo doesn't exist. What I'm saying is, "voodoo" and "juju" are wrong terms.

It's mostly used by ignorant people. The correct term is "mysterious".

Underlying those mysterious feats people call voodoo, juju, spiritual, supernatural are some unknown laws of nature (unknown physics, chemistry, biology).

They're manifestations of some unexplained science generally.

About the spiritual realm, scientists will soon start demystifying that.

You see all those terms like dark matter, dark energy, etc., which you might have been seeing around in modern times, refer to aspects of what religious people call "spiritual realm", though most religious people and scientists don't know this at the moment.

Even many scientists doing research on dark matter and dark energy don't know.

In the native Yoruba culture, it's dark matter and dark energy our forefathers used to refer to when they use the term "weju" (meaning "being able to see the unseen realms" ).

Dark matter is simply matter that exists in the unseen realms, and dark energy is energy originating from the unseen realms.

I don't want to say much on the subject. These are not what to be discussed in detail on Nairaland because they're meant for the scientific community.

It's ignorant or mischievous people that call mysterious phenomena "voodoo", "juju".

If you know what you're talking about (unless you want your technique to remain a secret), you'd call it by its specific name.

For instance, if I know some codes to teleport, i.e. disappear (I'm sure you call this feat juju or voodoo in your area as many do in Yorubaland too), if I want to hide my knowledge from people, I'd just tell them it is "voodoo" or "juju".

But if I don't want to do this, I'd state the specific name of my stealth (or teleportation) technology.

Does it involve hiding in certain segments of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum (the popular technique of our ancestors and forebears called ofe in Yoruba and similar terms in the other cultures around)? So that stealth technology is EM-based.

There's no juju or voodoo here.

Does the technique work based on the use of an invisibility cloak? Again, people are working on this, and breakthroughs will be achieved in the coming years.

No juju here as well. When I hear the word juju or voodoo, I just say to myself that it's either this person using it is ignorant (which is the case for most people) or is being secretive.

https://blog.google/products/search/more-help-with-math-and-science-problems-in-search/

I found that news update from Google interesting. Due to some projects I've been working on for a while now, this part of the news report specifically caught my attention, as reported by Legit.ng:

"For the physics and geometry solver, Google leveraged its Multitask Unified Model (MUM), which understands specific search queries across various formats, including text, images and videos."

On the plus side, this tool will help students solve complex problems more easily and facilitate learning of difficult concepts and topics, especially in Math and Physics.

However, it can stifle the creativity of students, especially those pupils who love copying solutions to problems verbatim from their fellow students or on Internet platforms without understanding what they've copied.

If any student really wants to excel in their studies, they've to ensure use of technological tools like calculator, Google, ChatGPT, and the likes doesn't stifle their creativity and ingenuity.

For instance, if a student wants to be extremely good at Math, they've to learn how to solve Math problems without the use of a calculator.

That's what even the gifted ones really love.

It's intelligent people that solve various problems humanity faces. This is one key reason why students are taught various courses in schools to develop their cognitive skills and problem-solving ability.

Apart from academics, anyone can demonstrate intelligence and creativity in any area of life and excel there with hard work, determination, and luck (this last factor depends on the first two).

So, it's obvious these ones dey quote Nairaland posts for their research studies or company reports.

Lols, even on Quora where people often post their details (achievements) on their account, it's bad practice to use such sources (Quora posts) in formal settings (research studies, company reports, and the likes), let alone Nairaland where it's not even allowed to post your details on your account.

Even some schools and companies won't allow LinkedIn, a platform for professionals, to be used as a source for research studies and company reports.

On blogs and platforms like Nairaland, random memes and comics are content people use for informal purposes. It's when you're daft that you'll be talking about plagiarism in such circumstances, even when you do the same here regularly.

I don't know what it's about this thread that attracts idiots and ignoramuses sha.
