The program structure of their masters degree program in communication is excellent and the curriculum was impeccable.their state of art facilities is also top notch and it will further broaden my horizon in communication and public relations. Oludare23:
Visa Delayed July 17 2018 at Lagos embassy

Re fired... Got an appointment for August 16, Rescheduling thing happened, interview date was moved to 27th of August and the following went down.
I am doing this because I learnt a lot from this forum... from part 11 down to 13 and a bit of 14.

Abuja embassy window 3...

Me: Good morning Ma'am with a big smile

Vo: Good morning, pass me your passport and your I-20, she then asked what school are you going to?

Me: Im going to bowie state university for my masters in computer science, while saying that she was also nodding.

VO: How did you get to know about this school?

Me: It was recommended by my line manager at my former place of work, I also read a couple of online journals as regards my area
of specialization and the school kept being mentioned.

VO: So you work at XYZ Consulting firm?

Me: Pronounced it properly for her, then moved on to explain what my job is at the firm. I am an application support specialist plus a consultant

VO: Have you served?

Me: Yes, I served in 2015

VO: What are you going to be doing after this program?

Me: I will be returning to nigeria to continue working at my current place of work, but as a senior IT security specialist, she now asked for
a proof of my return, which i presented

VO: Who will be sponsoring?

Me: My uncle, went ahead to explain that he is business man, my maternal uncle and how he's being sponsoring since High school plus i will be
supporting with some savings from work, she then asked for his bank statement went through it and said she will be holding on to the bank statement and if found fraudulent i will be banned for 10 years and my response was: I can assure there's no issue.

VO: She then asked about my parents, I confidently told her they are doing great and that my mom is also involved with sponsoring this course
Then she goes with those words.... I will be approving your visa...you know the rest

Please note that the above does not fully cover all that transpired at the interview but will sure inform one of what to expect and how to go about it.

I will also like to mention that GOD is really important in all this, you need to be confident its okay to stammer but make sure you make your point. Also, you need to use technical terms in your field of study while explaining yourself. I dont know it all but GOD did it... It was only his grace. It is also important to dress simple and neatly... More like a clean shirt and some nice pants.

Finally, thank you to everyone that have taken their time to post one thing or the other as regards School and Visa, GOD bless you all.

Good evening all,

I have been offered conditional admission at CMU because I have grade E in one of the mathematical courses I offered during my undergraduate and the school suggest I write it before the conditional admission can be confirmed.

I would like to ask if there will be any problem when facing the consular because it’s a conditional admission.

sospunky:
To all F1 visa hopefuls, here is my transcript, if i can make it...then anyone determined enough can make it.

I had my visa interview on Aug 28th 2018 at the Abuja Consulate.

A little bit of my background....I'm married and also a mother of 3, i work in a private Company here in Nigeria. I started this journey in 2016 from Part 12/13 and now part 14 God decided to settle me finally...along the way i was denied first for B1/B2 in 2016, scammed of some substantial amount in March 2018, denied Canadian Study visa in May 2018....went through 3 different agents all to no avail.....this time around i decided enough is enough i must do it myself. So from the admissions processing to the end of this F1 study visa application i did by myself. So i know first hand what its like to Fail, and yet i never stopped pursuing my dream of studying abroad.

Before going in finally for my interview...i went into the bathroom, and gave myself a perp talk...and also asked the Holy Spirit to take over.

I was on the queue and while waiting I noticed pink papers flying around....i refused to be fazed by the rejections around.i was interviewed by the man in window 9.

V.O: hi goodmorning (a small smile)
Me: good morning

V.O: passport and I20
Me: handed it over

V.O: i see you've chosen the California State University San Bernardino..why this school?
Me: I chose Calstate SB because they have one of the best business management programs in the world, according to US News and World report from 2014 till date.

V.O: He looked at my i20 and said whats the relationship btw business management and information technology(thats whats stated in my i20).
Me: i said yea ...(smiling) My course is not fully captured in the i20, im going to be studying an MBA with a concentration in Business Intelligence and Information Technology.

V.O: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: 2 schools...i mentioned them, University of Massachusetts Lowel and CSUSB.

V.O: oh, I see, Why Calstate SB ( for the 2nd time)
Me: Actually i was drawn to CSUSB because of the course Business Intelligence and Information Technology, the course objectives particularly gives me all i need.

V.O: while typing his attention was drawn to something...next he turned to me and asked have you ever applied to any other schools in anyother country?
Me: i said yes..i applied to the University of Guleph in Ridge Town, Ontario CA.

V.O: (He tried to play a fast one on me here by asking) University of Guleph is in Waterloo right?
Me: The name sounded off...i said no, not at all...University of Guleph is in Ridge Town Ontario CA.
V.O : Oh i remember now.

V.O: why are you going for your Masters?
Me: I've been offered a conditional promotion in my Company as a business development Mgr for surpassing my monthly and quarterly targets successively, one of the requirements for this offer is i must have a masters degree.

V.O: if you had an opportunity to study in any other Country...will you take the Offer?
Me: i said no...not with this course I'd be doing..the course offers me all i need.

V.O: what do you do for a living?
Me: I work in xyz as a Senior Business Executive in the Business Development Unit.

V.O: So what do you do for your Company when you resume work every morning?
Me: i develop business...I'm tasked with sourcing for new clients, ensuring that xyz's products are evenly distributed in our local markets here.

V.O: May i see your bank statement?
Me: i passed them over

V.O: how will you fund your program?
me: first i said my husband and i earn monthly and then I'd still be earning 50% of my monthly take home because of the conditional promotion from my Company, I'm also a director for a local production outfit here in Nigeria and then my husband and uncle will also support me fully.
VO was perusing my bank statements at this time.

V.O: i see a lodgement from xyz company
Me: Oh yes..that's my company, Im a director in that Company.

V.O: (He was now on my sponsors statement) why is this person willing to give you this amount of money?
me: I said he's my uncle,he's actually my dads only brother and he does alot for me from time to time

V.O: I will need to verify this statements, i hope you know if found to be false, youll be banned for 10years.
Me: i said Im aware..go ahead
He asked me this 3times
if it checks out, you will have your visa (photocopied my 120)
Me: Thats fine.

N.B
All this happened within ten minutes or so in the most cordial mood possible, my composure was 199%, i answered all the questions looking into his eyeballs. I was also very well dressed.

Exactly One week after I collected my pp.

It has been a very busy period for me.

I took time preparing my application. I was over prepared.

Tips: Fund your account, be truthful, look and act responsible and then pray, pray, dont stop praying.

I want to thank each and everyone that posted his/her transcripts, it helped me a lot.To all that did mock with me,my God reward you.

Congratulations!

I will like to ask that if someone don’t have a scholarship of any kind, what are the chances of getting Visa approval? Or am I having a wrong impression?

Macaulay10:
I got this from How to achieve high score in Gre thread, this process is effective

suggest you start by watching Magoosh videos, then to the Manhattan 8 series, then pick up the Manhattan 5lb and solve from chapters 7-29. Magoosh videos helps with understanding and revising the basic concepts you may have forgotten, the Manhattan series gives lucid explanations on all the quant topics (and there are lots of questions to play around with), then the 5lb is just the icing on the cake; if u can solve and review all the quant questions coupled with taking some full-lenght practice tests,a perfect score shouldn't be a far cry. It's not as easy as it seems o, but u just have to keep going at it. All the best bro.
PS: Whatever you do, never forget that the ETS official guide i s the bible of the GRE (read it as many times as you deem fit).

Thank you

Point Park University is a private institution that was founded in 1875. Park University's ranking in the 2018 edition of Best Colleges is Regional Universities Midwest, Tier 2.

I think its okay but why this school ?

You must really convince the VO why you really choose this school out of all the schools in the US . I could also see that majority of Program can also be done online ! But I think you must be prepared for ?

Why this school !!

What about Wichita State University shocked

I remember your username. I just want to point something out to you. If you think repplying for a visa with a "ranked" school will guarantee your visa, I'm afraid you need a really good reality check. You will still have to work for your visa.

If you're asked why you changed to XYZ university in Oregon and all you can say is "it is a ranked school", it's just another futile effort. What's my point? If you're trying to get into other schools, this is the time to start asking yourself what you want, why you really want them and do your research and continue learning how to prepare for interviews.

Moving on, cost of living depends on so many factors. Like in any state, not all cities are the same so, where your school is/you'd live could be factors too. Oregon is a relatively expensive state to live in but remember: sometimes, the cheapest things in life aren't the cheapest. Mississippi, Alabama, Oklahoma are cheap states but there are so many places in these states you wouldn't wanna live in as a foreigner.

Don't rush any decision, wait for the next session and spend time preparing. Make better decisions and be self critical. Don't let your future be decided by a random, faceless person in another place like me and others here lol because in the end, you'll be the one to live with your decisions.

Always go for what's best for YOU, not what someone thinks would be best for them. I wish you the best.

Can I PM you @theamerican?

Good day Nairaland,
I was offered admission into MA Economics program at Wichita state university. My appointment has been scheduled for 28th of May for 7. A. M.
Here is my proposed transcript. I want corrections and additions from you guys.

Vo: Good morning
Me: Good morning. How was your night?
Vo: Pass me your i20 and passport
Me: Passes
Vo: Where are you going to in the US?
Me: Wichita State University 1845, Fairmount, Wichita, KS 67260.
Vo: why are you going to Wichita state university?
Me: for my master degree in Economics
Vo: how many schools did you apply to?
Me: 3, namely, Wichita state university, Murray state University and Western Illinois University.
Vo: So why WSU?
Me: Apart from the fact that the state where the school is located is economically conducive and my mentor being an alumni of the school, the school offers excellent education to it students through high quality teaching and a well structured research activities. WSU MA Economics gives room for flexibility because they offer three different tracks which are Financial Economics, Economics analysis and international Economics. All the three tracks seek to provide students with analytical skills useful in decision making and a broader understanding of the overall economic environment. The financial track is my main area of interest because I have found a career in the financial sector. The school curriculum is compatible with my academic background and career interest. The program has good professors and also give a lot of time for business projects that mirror real work environment conditions. This is called Analysis of business condition and forecasting (Econ 803) in the department curriculum. This particular course is rare in other schools curriculum.
Lastly, I contacted Dr Philip Persh prior to applying, I told him about my research plans towards the proposed program and he was impressed by the research plans. We will be working on a thesis with the topic Nexus between Inflation and unemployment from (1990 - 2017)using Nigeria and United state as a case study .
Vo: What are your core courses?
Me: Math. Method in Economics Econ 701. Applied Econometrics Econ 731. Macro & Micro Analysis Econ 801 & 802. Analysis of Business forecasting Econ 803. Applied Econometrics II Econ 831.

Vo: What will the course do for you?
Me: I already work in the financial sector, masters will make me more competitive for promotion to higher position and accord me the opportunity to edge closer to the highest cadre in the financial sector by working directly with the Apex Bank of Nigeria where I can be able to advice Nigerian Government and non governmental parastatal on the best Economic practices and suitable policy. This is my long term dream.
Vo: who is sponsoring you?
Me: my dad and my aunty
Vo: what does your dad and your aunty do?
Me: my dad is a mechanical engineer who works with Federal Government and also own a private workshop. My aunt is chief account at ABC company.

This is the little work I have done with guide from Nairaland. I need you guys to give comments. Thank you all as I await your contributions

Lastly, I contacted Dr Philip Persh prior to applying, I told him about my research plans towards the proposed program and he was impressed by the research plans. We will be working on a thesis with the topic Nexus between Inflation and unemployment from (1990 - 2017)using Nigeria and United state as a case study. I'm proud of your preparation so far. You strike me as a guy who has taken time to really think about things to say and you made sense. Your interview is getting near so I believe you must be even better than when you posted this.

Additional advice: the "why this school?" part seems long. There's a big chance the VO would cut you short or lose interest midway, so... break it into sentences and start with the best 2 sentences that present the strongest case for you. Try to avoid vague answers too, deal with specifics.

Another thing, the part about what the Masters degree would do for you. Again, good job. Try to speak in money terms. Something like "The median salary for BSc. Econs grads in Lagos/Abuja is 200k per month. While that for Master's degree holders is 450k... a degree from a U.S. University will also look good on my CV which will mean more interviews for me...", don't you think? Also, more emphasis on particular skills you hope to transfer from your time in Kansas to the country.

I feel like you're a good student and with more preparation, you'll do well. I wish you all the best.

Wow! Thank you very much. I will work on the corrections. God will honour you and God bless you richly
