Celebrities / Open Letter To The Upcoming Artiste by Abisoyee(m): 7:39am On Oct 10, 2013
You can check the original post with pictures here: http://poshkidcharming.com/open-letter-advice-to-the-upcoming-artiste/

These days when I meet someone for the first time or I get introduced to someone and I ask them what they do, the reply I get most times is “I am an upcoming artiste.” That word has been so overused these days that I do not know who is upcoming again, who is already there and who is going to be there.

With the usual habit of we Nigerians, we have overpopulated the music industry and this is due to two simple reasons; everybody wants to be famous and everybody want to be rich. With the likes of Wizkid, Omawumi, Olamide, Waje, 2 Face, Tiwa Savage, D Banj, and some others having had major success in music, it is no surprise that many Nigerian youths feel they need to venture into music to be just as successful. It saddens me when I see people with so much potential in other endeavours of life wasting their time and energy struggling to be a musician. Don’t people just get it that music is not meant for everyone, even people with a croaky frog voice like myself will be deluding themselves that they got what it takes to be good musicians, well with the wonders of auto tune these days, I guess they got hope. Below I have listed some reasons why you may never achieve that dream of becoming successful as a musician.

So you can sing and you have got a great voice? Hurray, congratulations to you (eyes rolling), but so can a million other Nigerians so what make your voice so special that you think just because you can sing that is enough reason for you to go into music? Having a good voice only isn’t going to make you ‘blow’ and suddenly become a household name; yes you may even win some music contest with your fabulous voice but believe me that isn’t going to get you far if you don’t have other ingredients in you. Take the example of certain past reality show winners that we haven’t heard of ever since they won. The likes of Chidinma (Miss Kedike), Iyanya, Omawunmi, Timi Dakolo may have used music contest platforms to push themselves but ask them if that’s all it takes to become successful. Some voices were meant to be for the benefit of just your friends and family, don’t serenade us with bad music just because you got a voice!

Get a job because being an upcoming musician does not cut it for me. You need money to push your music if you are ever to be successful as a musician. You sit your butt down at home and tell people you are an artiste yet you have an empty bank account. How you going to shoot a music video if your song becomes a commercial success? How you going to pay the bloggers, radio stations, television stations and other media channels, PR persons and even the management that are supposed to be in charge of you? These people got bills to pay too and you don’t expect free services from them; till you ‘blow’ you need to get your shit together and get to work. They complain about how hard it is for them to get their songs onto top websites or get hyping from bloggers with good followership on their blogs and I ask, do these people use stone to pay their own bills? Does the radio and television station run for free, or do those that work there operate as robots?

Which brings me to the next issue, many of these people don’t even have a management and they call themselves artistes. You are not willing to pay for a proper manager or management yet you complain about the stress involved in pushing your music. Nothing good comes easy and a tree doesn’t make a forest. Even if you aren’t going to be paying them in six figures, appreciating their efforts isn’t going to do you harm. Do you think Wizkid just came out on his own and started shouting ‘Holla at Your Boy’ at us? Or Davido just decided one morning that Nigerians had to listen to ‘Dami Duro’ that brought him into limelight? There were people behind their success stories and they may have talent oozing out of their core but if they didn’t have the right support behind them then believe me they will be obscure names and figures trying to promote their music. Many people have complained of how Davido supposedly used his father’s wealth to push his music, well it’s about time you used something else to sell your own music too if you ever want to be taken seriously?

Furthermore, I cringe inside when I see an upcoming act not even able to string together a single correct sentence of English and yet they want to become celebrities. Get the money first before you throw your grammatical blunders at us so that when fans correct you, only then can you say that ‘broke people think they have an opinion’ (lol just kidding). Whatever the case may be and whatever genre of music you may be into, be it rapping, RnB, pop, hip hop, soul, jazz or even Fuji, please, please and please do try to get a good education. You can see some of the shameful errors of some so called celebs that have had fans attacking them mercilessly.

Last advice to you before I stop typing and poking my nose into your business which I know do not concern me anyway, be humble to your fans. You won’t get very far if as an upcoming act you put on unnecessary airs, the fans are what makes you and it only takes enough hatred from them to start tearing down your career. They made you who you are and you should never lose focus of that. Everybody loves 2 Face and keeps marveling at his humility despite being one of the top notch musicians in Africa. Till you win a Grammy, be yourself and remain humble so that the Grammy you end up winning does not end up being the one that will be given to you by your granny.
Signed

Celebrities / Celebrity Good Girls Gones Bad by Abisoyee(m): 2:06pm On Oct 09, 2013
For the complete post with all the pictures, check at http://poshkidcharming.com/celebrity-good-girls-gone-bad/

There was a time these seven women used to impress with their innocence and talents but now they have gotten worldwide fame because of their loss of innocence and grown into drug addicts, chain smokers, nude photos, alcohol abuse and some other not so good behaviours.

Christina Aguilera
Singer Christina Aguilera is one of the few stars that made us think she would be good forever. She became a star from childhood making appearances on the television series Star Search and The Mickey Mouse Club alongside with Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. She came into prominence with her debut album ‘Christina Aguilera’ which had about three hit singles. The road to being bad came from her fourth album ‘Stripped’ which had international chart toppers ‘Dirrty’ and ‘Beautiful.’ Christina created a new overtly sexual identity for herself and there has been no stopping ever since.

Rihanna
Barbados born singer Rihanna is one of the famous good girls gone bad, Riri as she is fondly called used to be a sweetheart during her child star days until she decided to join the list of wild celebs. She named one of her album ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ and has taken to releasing nude pictures and pictures from when she is smoking. Rihanna’s plunge had her moving from songs like ‘Pon de replay’ to ‘Disturbia.’ She is also always picking online media quarrels and has been labeled a cyber bully by actress and singer Teyanna Taylor.

Lindsay Lohan
Everybody fell in love with Lindsay Lohan from the movie debut ‘Parent Trap’ where she starred as a double of herself. She was the face of Disney Channel and used to be a role model child for other kids before turning into an addict, getting arrested and stripping off her clothes in movies. She has become impossible to work with and has been kicked off several movie shoots because of her instability.

Britney Spears
Just like her co-child star, Christina Aguilera there was a time Britney Spears used to be another little adorable princess to look at her. From a good and innocent Mickey House Mouse Club House star she turned into a feisty vixen. Britney is famous for her sexual overtones and her strings of crazy relationships like breaking up with singer Justin Timberlake, her famous quick drunk marriage-then-annulment with Jason Allen Alexander. She has even gone bonkers enough to shave her head, drive with her child in her laps and finally had to check into rehab. Britney was even put in a psychiatric ward in Los Angeles for a short period and she is the self acclaimed ‘Britney Bitch.’

Naomi Campbell
Super model Naomi Campbell used to be a source for black women not until her struggles with cocaine addiction became public and she checked into rehab in 1999. The numerous cases of battery charges that started trailing her cannot also be left out; most of the people that have worked with her have accused the model of battery. Naomi Campbell also shocked the world in 2008 when she attacked two police officers at the London Heathrow Airport (na African blood they run in her veins). She was made to face community charges and was also banned for life from British Airways.

Miley Cyrus
Anybody that hasn’t seen what Miley Cyrus did at the VMAs is definitely not from this world and is just an alien visiting from another planet. From being America’s sweetheart as Hannah Montana to what she is now, we can’t help but wonder how she became this rebellious 20 year old. Perhaps she is dancing to the tunes of Beyonce’s song ‘Grown Woman’ about being able to do anything you like once you are grown. Miley has confessed to loving weed and saying cocaine isn’t as cool, she has gone nude in quick rapid successions and has made twerking famous worldwide.

Katy Pery
Katy Pery holds the record as the first female artist to have an album recorded by a female artiste produce five number one hit singles and also the artiste with the second album overall after Michael Jackson’s 1987 album ‘Bad.’ Ok here is a shocker you might not know about Katy Pery, the pop star used to be a gospel singer and both her parents are preachers. Her hit single ‘Last Friday Night’ might just have been talking about her. The ‘Roar’ singer’s father refers to her as the devil now because he believes her sojourn into the music world of pop is from the devil.

Please note that this post has nothing to do with the owner of this blog and all references to persons real or fictional is not intentional but pure coincidence. Neither does the post have any intention to ridicule any religion whatsoever. Do have an enjoyable read.

I opened my eyes slowly and the flickering rays of the sun blinded my eyes, the sun was greeting me and welcoming me to a new day.  I quickly shut my eyes as my senses slowly awakened and I realized it was morning and the early morning sun was coming in through my window. With a heavy groan I lifted myself up from bed and drew the curtain against the offending sun that had disturbed my peaceful sleep with its smiling rays.

The day was Sunday and usually I don’t have anything to do since I am not a believer of God even though I had been born in a Christian family and had attended church all my childhood. But this Sunday was different; I had promised Ezekiel that I was going to attend his church. Ezekiel was an old school buddy that we had attended college together some years back; he had been a devoted Christian even back then but I had always scoffed at his preaching which I considered a mad man’s tale. Somehow running into him had brought back some good memories of times shared together despite our differences in faith so I had allowed myself to be cajoled into attending his church service which to my surprise was not too far from my Surulere abode.

I smiled mischievously as I looked at myself in the mirror, it has been years since I last stepped foot in a church and rather than dread the encounter I was anticipating it with so much glee. I couldn’t wait to hear the pastor’s sermon about hell fire and brimstone and smirk at his stupidity. I was sure he was going to be yarning crap about how sinners were going to burn in hell fire forever and ever if they didn’t give their life to Jesus Christ. I ran my hand through my tussled hair, rough from sleep and stepped into the bath gingerly. I was in no rush to attend the service so I took my time preparing, in all it took me about two hours to get ready, I had woken up around 7am so it was around past 9 by now, I sat down in front of the television and watched my favourite Sunday soap opera for the next thirty minutes before setting out.  I wanted to be late and make sure I made my presence known; there was no way I was rushing to meet someone’s Jesus, if their Jesus wants to meet me so badly then he might as well wait for me.

I could hear the noise from the service a good distance away as the songs bellowed out and the racketing noise of the instruments made me wonder if those inside weren’t already deafened by the noise. I mentally asked myself why the government allowed such noise in the name of religion; if I were president or even governor I did ban all noise from any religious house and made sure they paid heavily for it if they disobeyed that law. I entered the building and was somewhat disappointed when nobody seemed to pay attention to my entrance; they all seemed to be in ecstasy as they danced with abandon and sang at the top of their voices. I was mystified; how could people be so gullible, why couldn’t they just realize that the pastors were just out to swindle them? They would say anything these idiots want to hear just to make sure that they part with the supposed ‘tithes and offerings’ while the Moslem folks always collect money for every prayer. Who the hell believes in such arrant nonsense, believing in some non-existent supernatural being? Who ever had said religion is the opium of the people knew what he was talking about.

I shrugged and consoled myself with the comical sight of a particular fat woman wriggling her massive weight in tune with the music. I smiled to myself and sat down refusing to take part in the madness around me and only heaving a sigh of relief when the commotion ended. I spotted Ezekiel standing close to the Ministers Corner and I realized he was an usher. Trust old fool Ezekiel to take active part in church, the real ordeal was about to start. A short bald man came to the pulpit to preach his nonsense and I relaxed in my seat to listen to his bullshit…

Celebrities / Nollywood Actresses With Failed Marriages by Abisoyee(m): 9:16am On Aug 09, 2013
Post with full pictures can be checked at http://poshkidcharming./2013/08/09/nollywood-actresses-with-failed-marriages/

The purpose of this post is not to ridicule these women who have all gone through one failed marriage or the other. They are beautiful, talented and strong and are joined together not just by the glue of finding success on the big screen but they have all gone through marriages that hit the rocks.

Kate Henshaw – Kate is one of the few Nollywood actresses that I personally respect because of her good interpretation of roles and I have been quite in love with her for a while now (wink). This ONGA ambassador was married to a British man, Rodrick Nuttal and they were married for twelve years before the two divorced in November 2011. The union produced a daughter named Ella. As at the time of the break up, the rumour mills had it had that Kate’s busy schedule kept her away from her matrimonial home many times and since her then beau was equally a busy person being the MD of Ledrop Nigeria Limited which is the sole distributor of Jack Daniel’s and Huedsiech Champagne. The two had a crazy schedule and things crumbled in the wake of their careers coming priority.

Fathia Balogun – Who does not know this beautiful Yoruba actress that has starred in so many block buster movies that we can’t help but wonder if she was born to live on screen? This sultry actress has gone through the pain of two failed marriages. She was first married Tunde Anchor and the union produced a son. After her first marriage crashed, the talented actress picked herself together and moved on. She moved into the arms of veteran actor Saheed Balogun but fate was not yet ready to smile on her as the marriage also hit the rocks some years after. Despite the many attempts to bring the two back together by many influential people, the two could not reconcile their difference and Saheed Balogun has since moved on and remarried.

Shan George – Tall, light skinned and beautiful, this outspoken Nollywood actress has been through some pain behind all the fame. The talented single mother of two has been through the traumatic experience of two failed marriages, her first marriage had been at a tender age of 15 which had produced two boys. According to her, her second husband had walked out on her for another woman and despite her two bad experiences from her flirtation with marriage, she is still ready to give marriage a try if the opportunity comes.

Funke Akindele – She shouldn’t be on this list but unfortunately for ‘Jenifa’ her one year old marriage to Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede crashed and she joined the list of other actresses with failed marriages. Hers was announced on social media platform, Facebook when her husband took to his Facebook page to announce their separation. After her marriage crashed, one of the first things the star actress did was to remove her husband’s last name from her social network IDs.

Chika Ike – She is got a body to die for and good looks that would make many other women jealous but it seems being successful or famous and not even her talent could help her keep her man. Chika Ike marriage to Tony Eberiri hit the rocks on allegations of assault and infidelity with the actress filing for divorce. In an interview she granted, the award winning actress said there are some things in marriage that a person might not be able to stand. She further went on to say: “Some people’s limit might not be my limit. My limit might be somebody’s starting point.”

Bukky Wright – She is a woman with so much grace and beauty that one can only wonder what is wrong, this star actress has been in and out of marriage twice. The graduate of Economics believes that her failed marriages has been a lesson and taught her things that cannot be made as mistakes again.

Clarion Chuwkura – Veteran Nollywood actress Clarion Chuwkura has also been through the bitter lesson of a failed marriage. She has been married to veteran musician Sir Shina Peters and the union produced ace music video producer Clarence Peters. Aside Shina Peters, the delectable actress has also been married to the likes of Tunde Abiola and Femi Oduneye. She also believes that egocentricity as the problem of most Nigerian men.
Foluke Daramola – This Yoruba actress is well endowed in the chest region and her acting skills has endeared her to many. The actress was married to activist Kayode Salako before it all came crumbling down like a pack of cards. In a recent interview with Vanguard, the actress admitted that immaturity ruined her marriage.

Stephanie Okereke – If when compiling a list of the best actresses in Nollywood, Stephanie’s name is missing on the list, then that list is an incomplete one. This dark-skinned beauty has impressed us with her acting skills to have carved a niche for herself. Although she is currently married to Linus Idahosa whom she married in grand style in April 2012, Stephanie has been through the ordeal of a failed marriage. She was formerly married to ex-Super Eagles defender, Chikelue Ileonyosi. She married him in 2004 but things went sour in 2007 and the two split and on not so good terms.

Laide Bakare – She also joins the list of notable actresses with a crashed marriage. The Yoruba actress is undoubtedly one of the best in the movie industry when it comes to interpretation of roles and delivery. The actress had long been battling rumours of problems in her marriage but she finally opened up when she walked out on her husband on May 3, 2013. She released a statement through her publicist Folorunsho Hamsat about the separation. The separation brought about allegations of infidelity as her husband Mr. Okunfulire claimed she was sleeping around. Soon after her separation, Laide also moved in with another man, Mr. Tunde Oniowo generating much criticism from her fans.

We can go on and on as the list is endless but these are just a few of the top notch celebs with failed marriages. The likes of Hilda Dokubo, Eucharia Anunobi, Monalisa Chinda, Ayo Adesanya, and Steph Nora Okere also makes the list.

Politics / Save The Girl Child: Our Lawmakers Have Gone Mad by Abisoyee(m): 4:28pm On Jul 22, 2013
To read with graphic imagees, visit http://poshkidcharming./2013/07/22/child-not-bride-our-lawmakers-have-gone-mad/

To say I am not really shocked by the new law or whatever it can be called that has been the bone of contention in the country is an understatement. I have known for quite a while now that we are being governed by a bunch of self-serving hypocrites who have no business being in the law making house in the first place. Whatever brought about such insanity as proposing a bill of making the legal age for marriage 13 years for a girl child? Isn’t it plain madness to any reasonable person with a conscience to ask a girl of 13 to move into a matrimonial home when she has her whole life ahead of her.

The age thirteen is the beginning of teenage hood and one of the tender ages of puberty when many young people just begin to grow into young adults and at this stage of their life they need tender care and nurturing both definitely not the kind that conjugal relations bring. In a country with an estimated number of over 150 million people, one would expect that there would be enough marriageable women to go round any man’s appetite rather we have a bunch of senators sitting in their high seats believing that ‘fresh blood’ is what will revitalize their dry bones. To say I am appalled would be making light of the situation.

Nigeria is a country filled with strife and we have corruption at the center of our affairs running our daily lives and yet the only thing that our lawmakers can see to bring up is an early child marriage. Are these not the same senators who so righteously condemned the same sex bill and said it was not part of our customs and traditions? Has our customs and traditions suddenly gone so awry and demented that it now supports early child marriage? If we are going to be making laws from morals then shouldn’t we be sticking to the full enforcement of norms and traditions? Even if our so called tradition accepts early child marriage, aren’t we in a civilized age where we know that some practices are abominable and just not right in the sight of God and man?

Seeing a list of 35 senators that supported this just kills my heart, are these the people that Nigerians have voted into power to rule them. If yes is the answer then this is not a country I will want to be a citizen, a country where the future of my unborn child is uncertain and where a grown man in his supposed ‘right senses’ would want to get married to a 13 year old child. It is barbaric to ask a child to be a mother, ask another child to beget another child. At age 13 I know that I would want my daughter to have all the loving and care in the world and not be bothered about such things as marriage and the issues that trail it.

We say Nigeria is backward and we keep saying that youths are the hope of Nigeria but where is the hope? Where is the change we so desperately seek, education that is supposed to be the key for the growth of any nation is in such state of ruin that it will take nothing short of a miracle to revive it. Will the 13 year old child that you have married have access to education? Will the child-mother be psychologically stable to live a normal life in society? Does the child-bride that you want to make be ripe for decisions to be made in marriage? Whatever happened to marriage being the union between two consenting adults and why not as well make the voting age to be 13 while you are at it? These and many more questions I pose to the lawless lawmakers who have failed us as Nigerians in their duty to serve us. We have more pressing issues of ASSU strike, NUPENG issues, electricity issues, Boko Haram crisis and some other insecurity issues, education is in a sorry state, most of our roads are nothing but routes to hell, death traps and all these are relegated to the backburner to bring up an issue that shouldn’t have even seen the light of day in the first instance.

I have read countless responses to the child-bride issue and even the response of Senator Sani Yerima who is one of the fore supporters of this insanity and I have to say that the arguments he raises begs the question of his fitness as serving this nation. He brings up issues of Islam encouraging early marriage and I am forced to wonder if Nigeria is an Islamic nation. Even if we were an Islamic nation, I am sure no religion would want evil for followers of that religion as God who we all ultimately serve didn’t mean evil for us at no time or the other in his creation. Thank God Senator Yerima himself agrees that Nigeria undoubtedly has many problems but what I fail to see his logic when he says that early child marriage is the solution to majority of our problems. He talks about giving out hi9s daughter in marriage at the age of 6 and I can only wonder what kind of father he is. It has been proven times without number that just because you gave birth to a child biologically does not necessarily mean that you are fit to take care of that child because giving out a child at 6 years does not speak of parental responsibility. He further goes on to argue that Sharia law does not allow a man to rape his wife so the marriage cannot be consummated until the child becomes physically mature and gives her consent. In this modern age where parents do not impose a husband or bride on their children, why talk about giving out a child at six years just to wait for her to grow mature enough for him to sleep with her. Is marriage really the best way of nurturing a child?
In all this madness, all I can say is that Nigerians have been able to come out to express their displeasure about this, if truly this is a democratic nation then the wishes of the people must be respected and we say NO to child-bride, we say a capital NO to early child marriage.

We want a nation where education is bettered, where the average man can live above N150 daily, a Nigeria where the power supply is excellent and the cities and states are developed, where science and technology is at the peak and good governance. A Nigeria free of corruption and where we can breathe and live easy without any fear of security or terrorism; that is what we want and not an early child marriage that belittles our females.

I refuse to be a part of the barbaric, primitive, inhumane, retrogressive, backwards, redundant, and unprogressive law that supports early child-marriage. Give the girl child a pen and not a penis, give her books and leave her boobs, an education and not ejaculation. Speak out today so that we do not get trodden up, our voices must be heard.

For a better understanding of this story, you might like to viait http://poshkidcharming./2013/06/23/stolen-kisses-forbidden-fruit/

It was Michael’s voice and he sounded like an angry locomotive with the way he bellowed over the phone. He sounded so infuriated that I unconsciously took a gulp, Sharon had gotten back home and reported the day’s incident to him. He screamed in fury about how he was going to strangle my chicken neck when he got hold of him and that I had better run for my dear life because nothing was going to save me from his wrath. I put on a fake bravado and responded calmly that there was nothing he could do since we don’t have any business together when the truth of the matter was that I was just too scared to talk much, my heart was in my mouth and I knew that I had landed myself in hot water. I disconnected the call more out of fear than irritation that someone was making idle threats, I know what Michael is capable of; he had this evil streak of rebellion and vengeance in him and he wasn’t going to be satisfied until he had blood. To avoid trouble, that night I packed a little overnight bag and headed for my best friend’s house Andy.

Andy was the only friend I could trust with all my life woes and when I got there, he didn’t raise a brow since this was not my first time of crashing at his place during an emergency. He listened to my story that night without any emotion on his face and when I finished he calmly looked me in the face and said: ‘It’s all going to be fine.’ I forgot my sorrows that minute and picked up my phone, I hadn’t spoken to Mirabel all day and when she picked up the phone, her voice sounded tired and drawn like someone who had been crying all day. My heart broke to hear her so sad and she didn’t really want to speak, she said she just wanted to sleep and have a little time to herself to think through everything. She said she was scared of Michael as he had called her earlier in the day to raise hell and fury. He had called her some dirty names like b**tch and a wh**re and how she just humped around from men to men, he said he was going to disfigure that face for her so that no man would ever find her attractive again. She was scared and I could hear the fear in her voice, she whimpered softly as she spoke and I could hear the silent sniffs of someone trying so hard not to cry. She said might be going back to Abuja because she wasn’t strong enough with all the drama going on. I tried to assuage her fears and told her that it was simply what we had to face and she shouldn’t let that discourage her from being with me. I swore by the heavens and earth that I was going to protect her and nothing was going to happen, even as I said that I wondered to myself how I was going to do that. Here I am, a scruffy young man and I had even run from the comfort of my own home to my best friend’s to find solace.

How I wish I found that solace I so badly needed. That night was hell, just as we were preparing to sleep, we heard shouts outside. It was the gateman and some arguing heatedly, I was in only my boxers while Andy was in pajamas. We went out to see what was going on when suddenly someone kicked the gate open forcefully and four men trooped in looking fierce and worrisome. The first one dazed Audu, the gate man a slap and the poor man fell to his knees with a dazed expression on his face. Another one kicked him mercilessly in the stomach and he crumpled to the ground writhing in pain, I shouted out about what was going on while Andrew ran forward to help Audu. That was when it happened, one of them brought out a knife and slashed Andy on the back as he bent to help Audu from the ground. Andy screamed in pain and blood gushed out of the wound like water from a new tap…..

Celebrities / OJB Jezreel Saga: Were The Celebrities Obligated To Help? by Abisoyee(m): 12:58pm On Jul 11, 2013
Just recently the newspapers, television stations, radios, all forms of print and electronic media and not to forget the social media was saturated with the #SaveOJB Jezreel campaign. The campaign stemmed from the cry for help of music producer and musician, OJB Jezreel who is suffering from kidney problems. The cry for help sought the assistance of Nigerians to raise $100, 000 (N16 million) for him to undergo kidney transplant surgery in India. The alert for help came as a rude shock to many Nigerians, and you may wonder why. The simple answer is OJB Jezreel wasn’t just your new generation producer; he is a veteran producer who has produced smashing hit songs and club banging songs for major artistes in the country. Why then was he asking for poor Nigerians to help him raise the funds for his treatment? It is a well known fact that United Nation’s report says that many Nigerians live under N150 per day and although we may have rich and affluent people among us, many still struggle to make ends meet.

The media latched onto the news like a dog takes to a bone thrown to it by his master, it was sensationalized by many magazines, TV stations, radio stations and it became a trending topic on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. First came the shock of a perceived well to do celebrity taking to the public to solicit help then it came dawning on us that for him to have taken to such a desperate measure then he must really be in a bad condition. Then came the multitude of questions; didn’t celebs make millions of naira? What was he doing with the money he had been earning? Where were his friends and family? What were the other celebrities doing to help him? Perhaps many of these questions stemmed from ignorance, it still didn’t change the fact that the sore was out there in the open for every eye to look at.

However of all the questions raised above, the most intriguing of all that the public seemed to latch on to was what were the other celebrities doing to help him? I have always argued that when we talk celebrities, celebrity pass celebrity. We have A-List celebrities who are the major headliners and we have the B-List who are famous but not as famous or trendy as the A-listers, we have the C-list which in my opinion are the flash in the pans and the ones that struggle to remain on the radar and then finally we have the D-list who I refer to as the struggling upcoming artistes trying to burst on to the scene.

For the purpose of this write up, we shall excuse the C-list and D-list celebrities who don’t really have much impact anyways. Let’s talk about the A-listers and B-listers, where were they? What where they doing before the situation got so bad that their fellow colleague had to take to the public for help? I am not going to name any names or all that but we know them, the ones that make the headlines. They are the ones that even a sneeze from them gets the attention of the media and has the public at a standstill. They are in the news for the rides they just acquired, the houses they just built, the holidays they are going on or coming back from, the mouth watering endorsement deals they just signed or the extravagant fashion accessory they own or enjoy. This then brings me to the question, where the celebrities obligated to help OJB out during this crisis?

As much as these people are famous and dirty rich, as much as they live fabulous lives and glamorousity (pardon me to use that word) seems to be their middle name, there is no changing the fact that they are humans just like the rest of us. Their mortality hasn’t changed because of the semi-god like behavior that they are treated with or because of all the popularity or money that seems to trail them. Therefore if they are human just like the rest of we mortals then that can only mean one thing; they got flaws and mistakes. They got headaches, worries and problems that the rest of us suffer from. The headaches, problems or worries may be on a different scale, on totally different plane or gravity but still it’s a problem. So when questions and talks started going round about how the celebrities were mean and cruel and could not save one of their own, I wondered to myself, do you really know what they are also going through? Just because you see them on your TV screens or see their pictures in the paper does not mean that they are living all the glam and fab they sell to us. Not everything is real and most of their actions are meant for the attention of the media.

I remember receiving a broadcast message on BlackBerry Messenger about the cruelty of celebrities that could not come out to donate the much needed cash. The BC listed names of celebrities that were living lives of opulence and affluence yet were paying deaf ears to the cry of their colleague. To say I was irritated by this was an understatement, I understand the whole concern citizen role that people were trying to play but this was taken it a bit too far. So what, I acquire a ride, smash it and acquire another, whose business is it really? As long as I work for my money, then it really is nobody’s business how I decide to spend that money. Many people pass beggars on the streets, don’t they turn a blind eye more often than not; does that make them inhumane? With no disrespect whatsoever to OJB Jezreel who I hold in the highest esteem, I mean no insult by having used the beggar example.

It is clear to everybody that it was just a case of trying to smear another person’s name, you see a man drowning in a pool. Under the law, if you walk away without trying to save the man, you haven’t committed any crime as long as you were not the one that pushed him into the pool. But we all know as a thinking man that you should at least try to raise an alarm or jump into the pool to save the drowning man. Although many people will later on tackle you for such an inhumane action if you choose to walk, you are still in your legal right not to have save the man. So when people started mentioning names, it was really bad of them. The people you decided to list their names would have had their personal reasons for not donating to the cause or perhaps they had more pressing need for cash that is not glaring to the public. Whatever the case may be, they worked for their money and reserve the right to do whatever they feel like with it.

In our finger pointing let us always examine ourselves before we go around judging others. If you haven’t walked someone’s path before then it is better you don’t judge their ways. It even amuses me when Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, finally donated the needed sum of $100,000 for the operation; the question on their lips now is what OJB will do with the extra cash he has raised earlier? Isn’t there any thought that he would need money after the operation to support himself and keep in good condition. Rather than be concerned about a successful transplant and well being of the ailing producer, they keep raising up silly issues.
