On education wise, Buhari didnt answer properly, Ribadu's answer was very on point! Shekarau answered the best being an educationist. However, the President must not be a Specialist in every aspect |

They asked Shekarau how to reduce the Recurrent expenditure and he attacked Ribadu's plan to reduce Parastatals. He (Shekarau) said he will remove EFCC and ICPC since they do the work of Police. Buhari's simple answer is that he will PESUADE the Legislators to reduce their pays He said it with force |

Buhari's supporters compose of about 85% the down-trodden, the frustrated, the jobless/underemployed graduates, the suffering illitrates, the forgotten people who have no say in the society, the bankrupt entreprenuer who was driven out of business for lack of power or because Obj 'made 20 Billionaires' (as he claimed) through monopolies and bank debt, and a host of others who have given up on Nigeria. From this backdrop, it is natural for Buhari's supporters to react to the BADLUCK PDP has inflicted upon them even without Buhari telling them. Fellow Nigerians, the time is ripe, the time is NOW. BELIEVE IN NIGERIA, VOTE FOR BB2011! |

President Goodluck Jonathan said in Kaduna yesterday that the nation’s external reserve has grown from $32 billion as at November 2010 to $36 billion as at end of last month. The President also restated his adminsitration’s commitment to conducting a free and fair elections next month. Jonathan spoke at the Northern Economic Summit. Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi said Nigeria cannot develop as long as industries were made to compete with those of advanced economies. The President said the nation’s economy performed creditably in 2010. According to him, "the growth in our economy in 2010 was driven basically by the non-oil sector especially agriculture. There has also been an improvement in our crude oil sector made possible by our administration’s implementation of the amnesty programme in the Niger Delta region. "It is gladdening to note that our external reserve has assumed an upward ride from $32.5 billion in September 2010 to $36 billion in February 2011. The various programmes embarked upon by government over the years have enabled the economy to recover from the global economic crisis". He also said the federal government would partner with the various state governments in the economic development of the country, adding that in this regards, the National Bureau of Statistics is compiling statistics of the gross domestic product in the various states. Jonathan described the summit "as a defining moment in Nigeria’s economic and political history. It is a time that calls for deep reflection. The summit will lay a solid foundation for the development of our great nation. "This economic summit is significant not because it is organised by the north; it is the first major economic summit to be organised in this part of our country especially coming at a time in our history when we have just celebrated our 50th anniversary and a matter of weeks before our general election." Sanusi expressed regret that in the 21st century, Nigerians are still talking about where the president should come from rather than the capability of the occupant of the office to deliver the dividends of democracy. He asked "are we saying that what we want are incompetent leaders so long as the elections are free and fair? He said Nigeria does not support the growth of her local industries, but subject them to stiff competition. "We are an OPEC member, we export crude oil and we import refined petroleum products. We are the world’s number one producer of cassava but we import refined starch. We have a large cotton belt stretching from Funtua, Gusau all the way to Biu in the north east and we import textile fabric from China. We have hides and skin and we do not have a leather goods industry. "Our problems started from the abandonment of national economic plans and lack of articulate vision on how to build an economy and when we succumb to something called market forces. We import tomato paste". The CBN Governor said the country spent $1 billion last year importing rice, "why should Nigeria import rice? That we do not have the land or we do not have the intelligence to farm? Or rice processing plants are high technology that is beyond the understanding of Nigerians? |

Justice Ibrahim Auta, the judge who was handpicked by the Abacha regime to head the kangaroo tribunal that sentenced renowned environmentalists and minority rights activist Ken Saro-Wiwa to death by hanging, today became the Acting Chief Judge of the Federal High Court. Auta takes over from retired justice Dan Abutu, the judge who oversaw the judicial mess that almost crippled Nigeria during the prolonged absence of late Nigerian leader Umaru Yar'Adua. The Abacha regime set up the Auta Tribunal after it falsely accused Saro-Wiwa of orchestrating the death of four Ogoni elders. After prolonged abuse, torture and intimidation of Mr. Wiwa's counsel by the Abacha regime, Justice Auta pronounced Saro-Wiwa and eight Ogoni activists guilty of a crime they never committed and sentenced them to death by hanging. The Abacha regime swiftly ratified Auta’s verdict and thereafter murdered Saro-Wiwa and the eight activists before the period allowed for an appeal had elapsed. Coincidentally, the current president of the Nigeria Bar Association, Joseph Bodunrin Daudu (SAN), acted as the government prosecutor to the Abacha regime against Mr. Wiwa. Justice Auta’s appointment is to be ratified by the Senate. He will then be sworn in by Jonathan Goodluck, who also hails from the Niger Delta region. For some reason, Jonathan doesn't seem to take much historical notice of Ken Saro-Wiwa. Last year, for instance, he ignored the Saro-Wiwa anniversary. It is also of significance that the Nigerian Senate shot down a motion sponsored by Senator Lee Maeba which aimed to immortalize the late activists. Mr. Maeba’s motion was rejected and his attempt to call for a minute of silence to honor Mr. Saro-Wiwa was angrily shot down by the senate president, David Mark. |

CBN blasts FG over policy somersault Headlines Mar 17, 2011 By OMOH GABRIEL, Business Editor LAGOS – CENTRAL Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has described the recent lifting of ban on tooth picks and furniture as a breach of contract stressing that it portends lack of credibility on the side of government. Sanusi said the CBN saw no urgency in that policy and wondered why it should be reversed without warning. He regretted that as a result of that action, banks now establish letters of credit (LCs) for the importation of furniture from abroad. The Central Bank governor who was briefing members of the monetary policy committee of the CBN on why banks were not usually disposed to lending to the real sector given current efforts being made to de-risk the industry and get banks to lend to the real economy, said: “This was because, a bank would only lend if it was satisfied with the risk criteria. Consequently, the CBN was pursuing other routes that would help to address bottlenecks including legal issues.” He cited the alternative dispute resolution bill that was trying to address that problem, and informed members that seven value chains in agriculture, namely, rice, maize, cotton, tomatoes, cassava, cattle and soya beans have been identified. He said that a steering committee which has the Ministers of Finance, Agriculture and Commerce as members was being set up and is to be chaired by him, noting: “The committee would attempt to find ways of unlocking credit to the real sector. But these are issues that go beyond monetary policy and require concerted efforts for effective results.” The Governor remarked that some of the consultations took place after the pronouncements stressing that for effectiveness, monetary and fiscal authorities have to work together. Sanusi said that the quantitative easing and low interest rate policies were pursued to assist government when there was no risk to inflation. Reacting on behalf of the government, a member at the meeting remarked that those decisions were based on discussions with relevant stakeholders. He also said that one of the reasons for lifting the protection was to replace it with a levy, as it was discovered that some importers preferred to import through other ports leading to loss of revenue by government. |
