Foreign Affairs / Donald Trump's Shooter Identified As 20-year-old Pennsylvania Man (photos) by Adelola77(m): 2:14pm On Jul 14
The FBI has identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the gunman who fired shots at former President Donald Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

"The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the subject involved in the assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania," the Bureau said in a statement.

"This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and anyone with information that may assist with the investigation is encouraged to submit photos or videos online at FBI.gov/butler or call 1-800-CALL-FBI."

Crooks was killed by a Secret Service sniper at the rally, officials said.

"We do not currently have an identified motive," said Kevin Rojek, FBI Pittsburgh special agent in charge, at a briefing Saturday night.

Federal investigators said the gunman was not carrying identification, so they analyzed his DNA to provide a biometric confirmation of his identity.

Trump was shot at during a rally in Pennsylvania. He was quickly bundled off stage and into a waiting vehicle and has since returned home to New Jersey.

In a post to his Truth Social network, Trump said a bullet pierced the "upper part" of his right ear.

Earlier, his spokesperson said he was receiving treatment at a local medical centre.

"I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin," Trump wrote. "Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening."

Blood was clearly visible on Trump's ear and face as protection officers rushed him away.

The suspect was shot dead at the scene by US Secret Service officers, the agency's spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said.

He added that one bystander was killed in the shooting and two others were critically injured. All three victims were male.

Crime / 15-year-old Girl Hires Hoodlums To Brutalise Her Mother’s New Husband In Lagos by Adelola77(m): 1:04pm On Jun 29
Kayode Adesile did not anticipate the tragedy that occurred when he visited his newlywed wife, Oluwaseun Omolara Olusola, on June 25, 2024, at her residence in the Powerline area of Meiran, a suburb of Lagos.

Unknown to Adesile, an automobile technician, he had incurred the wrath of Esther, his wife’s 15-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, for reprimanding on an occasion she disrespected her mother, The Nation reports.

Esther, it was said, invited hoodlums to teach her stepfather a bitter lesson for meddling in her matter. The hoodlums, who were around when Adesile was visiting Esther’s expectant mother, pounced on him while he was about to enter the house, dealt him blows and recorded the scenario with their mobile phones.

“I verbally reprimanded her recently for being rude and disrespectful to her mother, who is my wife. I didn’t know that she was upset by my action which I took in good faith.

“They had carefully plotted the assault on me, knowing that I usually visit my wife’s home three times in a week.

“It was when I came around on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 that I was accosted by Esther who beckoned on the hoodlums to beat me up.

“I was badly beaten and humiliated as they took their time to make videos of the assault.”

It was said that after Adesile was assaulted, his attackers ran to the Meiran Police Station to lie that he attacked them. By the time Adesile reported the matter at the same police station he was detained.

The police, according to sources, would later find out that he was actually the victim of the assault, contrary to the complaint made by his attackers.

“The hoodlums invited by Esther were led by one Oluwakemi a.k.a. Honour, who supervised the brutality meted out to me and even filmed the scene with his boys.

“I was severely punched and battered by the hoodlums and left helpless as there was no one to save me from them.

“Even my wife who tried to save me was slapped silly by the boys and pushed to the ground.

“The hoodlums then left for the station and lied that I had attacked them.

“The police detained me when I went there to complain about the assault.

“It was later discovered that the hoodlums had lied and that they were the aggressors in this case.

“Hence, I was released on bail on Thursday June 27.”

He further said: “I started dating my wife six years ago before her mother died, and there was no problem between us.

“Her mother had asked her to bring me home for proper introduction after she told her that we were in a relationship.

“I later went to see her mother and we had a very cordial relationship before she died two years ago.

“When her mother was sick, my wife and I took very good care of her by taking her to a hospital in Abeokuta.

“She died shortly after we brought her back to Lagos.

“My wife is currently pregnant for me. I was the one that raised money to send her to school after she finished her JSS 3.

“I did not do anything to deserve the brutality meted out to me by the hoodlums she invited in connivance with a disgruntled family member of her mother to dehumanise me and even ran to the police to further detain me when in actual fact they were the aggressors.

“I was released on bail this morning (June 27) and the leader of the hoodlums is the leader a cult group in the community.”

Speaking with The Nation, Adesile’s wife, Oluwaseun, who is also Esther’s mother, said her daughter was being brainwashed and used by her unscrupulous family members and neighbours.

Oluwaseun said: “Esther Adekunle is a product of my former marriage. Her father humiliated me and was fond of brutalising me till we parted ways.”

She said she had struggled and weathered the storm to ensure that Esther and her two siblings got a good life and education after she parted with their father.

“There is no work that I have not done to give Esther and her siblings education. I am into cleaning services just so that I can have money to ensure that they feed well and go to school since their father abandoned them for me.”

The 36-year-old woman said that Esther had formed the habit of disrespecting and insulting her in public.

“Yet, despite all my struggle to make ends meet and raise them, Esther disrespects me in public and refused to heed my instructions.

“She would leave home without my consent and return when she wishes. She bedwets and exhibits dirty habits at home.

“It was recently when she insulted me openly that my new husband called her out and verbally reprimanded her for her misguided attitude.

“It was for that reason that she further became recalcitrant and planned with my mother’s family members and neighbours to invite the hoodlums to brutalise my husband.

“My new husband is not a gold digger. I have been dating him before my mother passed on two years ago.

“He was the one that provided the money we spent in processing admission for Esther to proceed for her Senior Secobdary education.

“Yet, he is the same person my daughter brought hoodlums to humiliate in public on June 25.

“While the boys were beating my husband, they also slapped me when i tried to stop them.

“”To my surprise, the boys came back the next day, June 26, and further assaulted me and there was no one to save me from them.

“They rushed to the police station and lied to the police that my husband attacked them. The police later detained my husband.

“The leader of the hoodlums, who is the husband of my daughter’s boss, was also detained when my husband indentified him as the leader of the gang that attacked him.

She added: “My husband was freed after the police discovered that the hoodlums were the culprits.”

In an audio recording obtained by our reporter, Esther, confronted by some persons on her complicity in the assault on her mother’s husband, accused Adesile of handling her breasts about two months earlier.

“He (stepfather) fondled my breasts about two months ago,” Esther said.

Asked why it took her two months to avenge her purported molestation and why she did not tell her mother about it, she said: “I told my mother’s family members about it.”

Adesile and Esther’s mother however described the allegation as a tissue of lies.

“She is lying. I have never molested her. She is acting a script handed to her by the people that are guiding her to disrespect her mother and myself over my wife’s inheritance which they want to dispossess her of, ” Adesile said.

Esther’s mother also said her daughter was misguided and told to lie against her stepfather after it dawned on them that their action was criminal and could have consequences.

She said: “My daughter was told to lie that my husband recently molested her.

“The truth is that she is doing a hatchet job for some people who are planning to take over my late mother’s property at all cost.

“My husband has never molested Esther. She is being used without her knowing.”

Contacted for comments, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos Command, Mr. Benjamin Hundeyin, did not answer his call and also had not responded to the inquiry sent to his WhatsApp at press time.

At least five individuals working at a construction site have been confirmed dead after a three-story building collapsed in Abia State.

The building under construction collapsed on them Friday afternoon in the Umumbi Autonomous Community in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that three carpenters working on the roof survived the building collapse while others remained trapped under the rubble

Among the victims of the incident were three workers reportedly plastering the ground floor when the building collapsed on them. The other two victims were blood brothers who had just arrived at the construction site to begin their work.

The owner of the building is reportedly out of the country, leaving his siblings in charge of supervising the project.

A building expert, Engr. Chinedu Okwara suggested that the collapse may have been caused by the use of substandard materials and the owner’s failure to hire a qualified and certified building engineer.

Confirming the collapse, the chairman of Ukwa West Local Government Area, Newman Azu, mentioned that he was already at the site with his team and that arrangements were being made to bring heavy-duty equipment to the scene for excavation.

The goal, he said, was to begin the rescue operation as quickly as possible and free those trapped in the rubble.

Celebrities / Autopsy Reveals Possible Cause Of Mohbad’s Demise by Adelola77(m): 10:34am On Jun 07

The autopsy conducted on the body of late Afrobeats singer Mohbad has revealed the possible cause of his demise.

The result of the autopsy conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) was obtained by TheCable Lifestyle on Thursday.

According to the report, samples of the gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung of the late singer were retrieved for a toxicology test.

The anatomical and pathological findings revealed that Mohbad had an injury on his right forearm and his body was exhumed with moderate to severe decomposition.

The autopsy also showed that “no significant gross finding” could be attributed to the singer’s death.

Consequently, the toxicology “revealed the positive finding of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range”.

Anti-histamines are medicines used to treat symptoms of allergies. They are also used to treat a variety of other conditions such as stomach problems, colds, and anxiety, among others.

The report said the cause of death could not be ascertained. It, however, added that there is a possibility of drug reaction in view of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings.

According to the examination, the reason of death was unknown. It did, however, emphasize that given any noteworthy toxicology and post-mortem results, there could be a chance of a drug reaction.

“It is noteworthy that the body neither had an autopsy nor embalmed prior to interment on the second day

“Following the Order for Exhumation, the body was exhumed on 21/09/2023 (8 days after the burial).

“Autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs. Apart from the superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant gross finding could be attributed to death.

“Against this background, samples were taken for toxicology. This is to determine if there was any anaphylactic reaction, substances of abuse, overdosage or common household poisoning.

“Toxicology revealed positive findings of Diphenhydramine, an anti-histamine; however, this concentration was not in a fatal or lethal range. The other analytics were unremarkable.

“In determining fatal anaphylactic shock, blood sample needs to be taken as quickly as possible.

“Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In the light of the foregoing, cause of death could not be ascertained.

However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered in view of the absence of any significant post mortem and toxicology findings,” the report read.

Six Weeks After LG election, OYSIEC Yet To Pay Adhoc Staff

Supervisors, presiding officers and assistant presiding officers recruited on adhoc basis for the April 27 local government election in Oyo state are writhing in expectation over non-payment of their dues six weeks after conclusion of the crucial assignment.

Some of them who spoke with ogbomosoinsightonline.com Thursday expressed dismay at the “maltreatment,” saying it is an unbecoming act.

“This is the sixth week and we are yet to be paid out entitlement,” one of them who however pleaded anonymity said.

“We slept over at their offices under extreme conditions, many had to walk in the dead of the night to meet up, and made other sacrifices to make sure the election went well. But no payment until now. It is bad.”

Another adhoc staffer who gave his name simply as Adekunle lamented, “The election is over, winners had emerged, winners have been sworn-in and have taken over at councils but see us who facilitated the process, we are still languishing without being paid, six weeks after. Isn’t it lamentable?”

Findings revealed that in the past at most two weeks, the adhoc staff would have been paid thus the victims are speculating that they might have been “scammed.”

“Attention Governor Seyi Makinde, your men have refused to pay us our due though we worked under stringent conditions to ensure success of the exercise. It is six weeks already, help us compel those in charge to do the needful,” another victim stated in a sms message.

insightonline.com contacted the head of Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) in Ogbomoso North local government, Mr. Tunde Adewuyi, but he allayed the fear that the fund meant for the payment had been misappropriated.

Adewuyi disclosed their remuneration would be paid, “on our part we had submitted all the requirements, their account numbers are intact, they will soon be paid,” he assured.

Religion / Saudi Declares Tomorrow First Day Of Dhul Hijjah, Annouces June 16 As Sallah Day by Adelola77(m): 7:42pm On Jun 06

The crescent Moon that signals the start of Dhul Hijjah was spotted in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, June 6, according to authorities in the kingdom.

Thursday, June 6, is therefore the last day of Dhul Qa’adah and Friday, June 7, is the first day of Dhul Hijjah. This means the first day of Eid Al Adha will be on Sunday, June 16 (Dhul Hijjah 10).

The Day of Arafah — marked one day before Eid and known as the holiest day in Islam — will fall on Saturday, June 15 (Dhul Hijjah 9).

Eid Al Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is marked by offering special prayers. Muslims slaughter livestock — usually, a goat, sheep, cow or camel — to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim’s test of faith.

The festival celebrates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son based on Allah’s command. Before the sacrifice happened, Allah provided him with a ram that the prophet then slaughtered.

Politics / Minimum Wage Negotiation Stalled As FG Fails To Make Fresh Offer by Adelola77(m): 1:30pm On Jun 06
Negotiations between the Organized Labour and the Federal government on the new minimum wage ended in a deadlock yesterday, June 6.

This happened because the Federal Government's negotiating team failed to present a new offer beyond the previously stated ₦60,000.

This development follows President Bola Tinubu‘s directive on Tuesday to the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to finalize the cost implications of the new minimum wage and submit an affordable, sustainable, and realistic proposal.

The President had emphasized the urgency of the matter, mandating that the government’s new offer be ready by Wednesday to serve as a basis for resumed negotiations with Organised Labour.

This instruction was part of a broader call to expedite all processes involved in the discussions to reach a timely conclusion.

However, during the negotiation meeting that resumed at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, it became apparent that the government team was not ready to present a new proposal.

Sources close to the negotiation table told Vanguard that the government’s absence of an updated offer limited progress in the talks.

A source at the meeting said: “The meeting was adjourned to give the Minister of Finance time to meet the deadline given to him by the President to present cost implications to him.

“We just deliberated generally and then they (the Federal Government team) said we needed to adjourn because they needed to get to the President. You know he (President Bola Tinubu) gave them an ultimatum to give him the cost implications.

“So we could understand that they did not have anything to give us since they had not given the President the cost implications. Those present at the meeting were the Minister of Finance, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning and the Minister of State for Labour. So, we will be resuming negotiation tomorrow (today) by 2pm.”

On whether the Finance Minister gave any assurance of getting the President’s mandate before today’s meeting, the source said: “They do not have a choice, we are not bothered about them. We do not think they have a choice because they cannot disobey the President.

“If they decide to disobey the President or if the President decides to renege on his promise, we all know the consequences.”

Sports / BREAKING: AFCON 2025 Postponed Due To Club World Cup by Adelola77(m): 6:41pm On Jun 05
The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled for 2025 in Morocco has been rescheduled to January 2026.

The tournament will be delayed by six months, as it clashes with the expanded 32-team Club World Cup.

AFCON 2025 was originally scheduled to take place in June, but the Club World Cup is set to be played in the United States from June 15 to July 13.

CAF’s general secretary, Veron Mosengo-Omba, told BBC that the AFCON would now be held in early 2026, acknowledging the pressing issue of scheduling conflicts.

Mosengo-Omba highlighted concerns regarding player welfare, questioning the feasibility of players participating in both the Club World Cup and the AFCON consecutively.

“For the men, we need to make sure that the dates that we’ll be choosing will be in the interests of the players.

“For this, we need to balance different aspects and also discuss with our partners and then we complete [the dates]. Scheduling is a nightmare for everybody,” Mosengo-Omba said.

Politics / NASS Moves To Avert Strike, To Mediate Between Nigerian Govt, Labour by Adelola77(m): 8:26pm On Jun 02
The National Assembly has announced its intention to engage with organized labor as a step towards preventing the impending industrial action scheduled to commence on Monday.

To this end, it urged all stakeholders to remain patient and co-operative as it works diligently to find a mutually acceptable resolution in the best interest of the country.

The legislative arm said its decision to intervene followed the deadlock between the Federal Government and the labour unions in ongoing negotiations for a new national minimum wage and reversal of the recent hike in electricity tariffs.

A statement issued Sunday, jointly signed by the spokesperson of the Senate, Senator Yemi Adaramodu and the spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi, revealed that the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, are taking proactive steps to mediate and avert the impending industrial action.

The National Assembly stressed that both parties, labour and the Federal Government, have tenable reasons for their respective positions.

The National assembly added that the strike action would have severe repercussions on the populace and economy

Parts of the statement read: “The National Assembly acknowledges the announcement by Organised Labour, including the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), to commence an indefinite strike action from Monday, June 3, 2024, nationwide.

“In view of this, the National Assembly Leadership and the Chairmen of the Senate and House Committees on Labour, Employment and Productivity respectively, Senator Diket Plang, and Rep. Adegboyega Adefarati, are looking to engage both parties in constructive dialogue and explore a variety of solutions in addressing the issues at hand.”

It added that the 10th National Assembly was committed to ensuring that the interests of all parties are fairly represented.
