Fire does not affect concrete per se. But in the triangle/tetrahedron of fire , we have heat.
Heat may likely have an effect on concrete/RC depending on its span and thickness. In the instance where the span/thickness of concrete is much and the absorbed heat caused by the fire when it cools in the concrete does not overlap proportionally along the span of the concrete it will result to cracks within which will become visible.

You can liken it to the local way of mining granite. In areas where igneous rocks are visible and within reach, local miners pour liquid fuel and ignite it. It's left to catch fire for some time and afterwards they go with small handy hammers and hit on the rock to cause cracks and to get the rocks into tiny sizes to be used .

The wearing course- ASPHALT of course

Now going with your submission, with raging fire with time less than 6hrs, the concrete for me is still in order.

From experience, I was opportuned to work on a burnt section of Marine beach bride, Ijora, Lagos. Both destructive n NDT were carried out in relation to unburnt section. Result shows relatively same compressive strength of concrete both for the piers, girders n deck.

We were required to produce concrete jacketting to the existing structure as need arises for increase in both static and dynamic load. Also, additional post tension cable was installed as well as replacement of bearings carried out.

I'm just seeing this.

First. Concrete can burn, it just requires the right amount of heat. There's nothing that can't burn given the right amount heat.

Second. Yes, concrete can withstand heat for some time, but this also depends on the intensity and duration of the heat. In any case, tests have proven that after 2hrs of class A fire (I think, have to review my books, been a long time), concrete will start to lose its properties and hence may not protect the reinforcement embedded anymore. This means that with adequate heat, the concrete is gone. And with this, the reinforcement melts and changes arrangement and or composition, making it also susceptible to failure when loaded.

Mr Oyb your replied also gave the Festac bridge example, and he's right, but you still think the bridge is fine?

Finally, you said the wearing course just needs to be removed. What exactly do you mean by the wearing course? Do you mean the asphalt, or does this include the concrete underneath? If you correctly mean the asphalt, then I can tell you for free that the concrete may have also weakened and spalled. And if you removed the concrete, you can actually know if the reinforcement there need to be replaced or not.

I live in festac. We had the very same thing happen there December last year. A tanker on the bridge caught fire. They have demolished an entire section of the bridge and are recasting support beams.

And yes, that is also an rc bridge

This is the first hit of a Google search for fire concrete bridge

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2017/03/31/atlanta-bridge-collapse-shows-how-fire-defeats-concrete-steel/99877148

http://www.notjustanotherfire.net/2017/03/31/effects-of-fire-on-concrete-structures/

From the first link, the cause of fire is still under investigation and duration of burn wasn't stated.

The second link wouldn't come up.

I'm not in anyway saying testing is not in line but I'm pretty sure the fire incident has little or no effect on the concrete structure.

Heh. You're giving the bridge a clean of health without any testing?

The guys who designed the twin towers were also confident the structure would not fail based on their design.

Bridges are not buildings and I can tell you the structural integrity can not be hampered by the fire incident that lasted less than 6hrs as there was no hit/impact.

In fire, concrete performs well – both as an engineered structure, and as a material in its own right. It has the highest fire resistance classification (class AI) under EN 13501-1:2007- A1:2009.

Concrete does not burn – it cannot be set on fire and it does not emit any toxic fumes when affected by fire. Concrete is proven to have a high degree of fire resistance and, in the majority of applications, can be described as virtually fireproof. This excellent performance is due, in the main, to concrete’s constituent materials (cement and aggregates) which, when chemically combined within concrete, form a material that is essentially inert and, importantly for fire safety design, has relatively poor thermal conductivity. It is this slow rate of conductivity (heat transfer) that enables concrete to act as an effective fire shield not only between adjacent spaces, but also to protect itself from fire damage.

Have they tested the bridge fir structural integrity?

No issue with the structural integrity of the bridge... Only the wearing course needs to be changed

How did he get your token to authorize the payment ? I work in that sector and the only way payment can be made without card presence is usually your token and your bank instrument or if your card has been tokenized on an application, EMV don't require token normally but since this is a Nigerian bank it means a token would have been used

There is problem in that north ooo.

But southerners must be determined to resist their radicalism. Th only thing they possess is violence and Islamic terrorism. We must match them gun for gun and terror for terror.

The state of Israel has given us a template of how to deal with Islamic aggression. We need to increase investment in mathematics and the sciences.

This uneducated idiots must be done away with at some point in the life of this nation.

God knows that if I possessed the resources, vanquishing this northerners will be my life’s mission.

May Lord Lugard rot in hell for joining the north and the south to form a failed state like Nigeria.

I think your post is wayward. You failed to read up the story but was quick to make comments just because of the pictures you saw. Very lazy act indeed.

These guys came out to cheer the governor and the visiting dignitaries.

Did you read any part where violence was mentioned or any act of terrorism?

The National Stadiumin Abuja has no aesthetics whatsoever.. ..
I don't know your architectural aspective but when all you can see from the outside are the barebones and ribs of the underlying structure then you should understand that the structure was probably designed by an engineer or an architect under severe oversight which is symptomatic of the way thkngs are done in Germany. It is a poor architectural piece.

Even the all concrete Marcana built decades ago in improverished Brazil is more catching to the eye. National stadia are supposed to be total expressions of culture and vibe in appearance and appeal simply because they celebrate a country to the outside world where budgets and expense are secondary. Look at some of the stadia in South Africa. Even those privately owned where budgets, business and functionality is a priority over aesthetics. Most still manage a better smile than the Abuja edifice.

Try to read my post again. I said aesthetically, Abuja Stadium is nowhere near UYO stadium.

For your information, structurally, I'd rather go for Abuja than Uyo reason being that Abuja has larger spectators than Uyo and it has option of expansion from little over 60k to little over 80k compared to Uyo's 30k capacity.

The wind load in Abuja can never be compared with that of Uyo which still forms some criteria for structural analysis and design.

All facilities within the Abuja stadium are designed and engineered in compliance with the requirements of international sport associations, particularly the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). -Wiki

The best so far in Nigeria?

See more pictures here...

https://www.autoreportng.com/2018/06/akwa-ibom-stadium-review-of-nigerias.html

The National Stadium in Abuja is still better than this in all aspects bar aesthetics.

In terms of infrastructure, structural soundness, inflow and outflow of spectators, complexity, pitch overlay.. I still give it to it.

What makes the UYO stadium pleasant to the eyes is the external facade bearing space trusses.

Fashola, son of the soil who lobbied Dangote and wrestled the single largest refinery in the world away from Ondo state.

Dangote wanted Ondo State due to its location and decongestion but Mimiko was not being realistic enough to provide the enabling environment for him.

Sensing the constraints, Fashola came in with the corporation of Oluomo of Lagos (Ambode) to take the deal and project to Lagos even as the state just discovered some presence of crude oil at Badagry.

The lesson I gathered:
Do not be selfish
Be proactive
Long term planning is always better than a QUICKIE
