Education / N1.4bn Fraud: EFCC Quizzes OAU VC, Students, Lecturers Kick by adiguns3(m): 5:41pm On Dec 14, 2016
Academic and non-academic members of staff and students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Tuesday protested in solidarity with the institution’s acting Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Anthony Elujoba.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on Monday summoned Elujoba and the Bursar, Mrs. Aderonke Akeredolu, over an alleged payment of hazard allowance to workers.
It was learnt that the allowances paid to both academic and non-academic members of staff from the university’s endowment fund were over N1bn.
The protests took place simultaneously on the university campus and the gate of the Ibadan zonal office of the commission. On the OAU campus, the workers shunned official duties to assemble at the popular freedom park in sympathy with the acting VC.
At the EFCC office in Ibadan, workers and students chanted solidarity songs and displayed placards with various inscriptions including ‘We say no to Omole incited probe,’ ‘OAU students say no to conspiracy,’ ‘It is not a sin to pay workers’ allowance’; ‘Elujoba is a saviour,’ ‘Don’t return us to the old days’ and ‘Omole five-year administration needs probing.’
The unions present at the protest in Ibadan were the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the Senior Staff Union of Universities, Non-academic Staff Union of Universities, National Association of Academic Technologists and the Students’ Union.
Leaders of the unions who spoke to one of our correspondents threw their weight behind the payment of the allowances. They also demanded that the administration of a former OAU VC, Prof. Bamitale Omole, should be probed.
They threatened to pass the night at the gate of the EFCC office until the acting VC was released.
The acting VC was still being quizzed by the EFCC officials as of the time (8.41pm) of filing this report.
Addressing students who came to solidarise with him, Elujoba said, “What a pain! You all are supposed to be in the classroom receiving lectures but this has brought you here.
“We are all in this together and by God’s grace we will survive together. I have dedicated myself to the delivery of the OAU. I will not rest until I see you (students) all succeed.”
The head of Public Affairs of EFCC Ibadan Zonal Office, Mr. Ayo Oyewole, said the acting OAU VC was being quizzed over allegation of illegal diversion of funds. He said, “The acting VC and bursar of the OAU were invited by the EFCC and are currently being quizzed at our office here in respect of an alleged case of illegal and alleged diversion of N1.4bn. According to the petition, it was alleged that the acting VC diverted the sum to settle some unapproved allowances from which he paid himself and also paid the (members of) staff various allowances.”
When asked if the allegedly diverted money was assigned to any project, he said, “The money was paid without the approval of the Federal Ministry of Education and the university’s Governing Council.”
On his part, the Public Relations Officer of the OAU, Biodun Olanrewaju, claimed that the money used to pay the workers’ allowances was hidden in a ‘secret account’ by the past administration.
He said, “All the unions are here to solidarise with the acting VC because it was shocking to hear that the OAU VC was invited by the EFCC to come and clarify why he paid workers when no money has actually been declared missing. It is strange in the history of Nigerian university system to see all the unions supporting the same cause.
The ASUU-OAU caretaker Chairman, Dr. Niyi Sunmonu, said there was no governing council in place in the university to approve such money.
“The governing council has been dissolved by the visitor, President Muhammadu Buhari, in June and since then no other one has been put in place,” he added.

Crime / Photos: Step Mother Detained For Cutting Baby's joystick by adiguns3(m): 10:13am On Jun 28, 2016
A 22-year-old woman, Bara’atu Rabiu, has
been remanded in the Minna Medium
Security Prison for allegedly cutting off the
penis of her rival’s one-month-old baby,
Buhari.
She was arraigned on Monday on one
count of attempted homicide before a Chief
Magistrate’s Court in Minna.
Our source learnt that Bara’atu allegedly
cut off the victim’s penis at their home in
Kuta town, Shiroro Local Government Area
of Niger State.
It was learnt that the suspect had been
married to her husband, Mohammed Rabiu,
for seven years, without a child.
She allegedly cut off the baby’s penis to
punish him for marrying a second wife.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the
state, Bala James, explained that the
suspect wanted to kill the victim, adding
that the child, who was named after
President Muhammadu Buhari, survived the
attack.
He said, “The woman used a sharp knife to
cut through the genitals of the one-month-
old baby. She had been married to her
husband for seven years without any child.
So, out of pressure, the man decided to
marry a second wife.
“When the second wife had a baby, she
became angry and frustrated. She thought
the best thing to do was to kill the child.
“On June 21, around 10pm, she took the
baby to the backyard of their house and
used a sharp knife to cut off his penis.
“The cry of the baby attracted neighbours,
who rushed to the place and found him in
a pool of blood. The suspect wanted to run
away, but she was overpowered. She was
handed over to the police, while the baby
was taken to a hospital.”
The baby was said to have been taken to
the Accident and Emergency Ward of the
Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida Specialist
Hospital, Minna.
Our correspondent was told that a surgical
operation to enable him to pass out urine
was immediately performed.
The Head of Department, General
Outpatient Ward of the hospital, Dr. Ahmed
Mohammed, said the boy might never
regain the use of his private parts.
He explained that all the tissues in the
affected part had been dead before he was
brought to the hospital.
He said, “He is doing well – health-wise.
He survived the attack. However, there is
no assurance of the penis getting back
because all the tissues were dead when he
was brought into the hospital. We just had
to conduct a surgery for him to be able to
pass urine.
“Medically, for him to regain the use of his
manhood will be difficult. If the team that
was supposed to work on him had been
around immediately, maybe the situation
would have been different. For such a
case, you need a general surgeon, a
neurologist and a plastic surgeon. But
these were not available. His future right
now is in the hands of God. Another
possibility is if there is artificial
attachment.
“I really pity the boy’s condition. I cannot
imagine that somebody will do this to a
baby. It is better for the child to die than
for him to be in this condition. Even if he
survives, what purpose will he be living
for?”
The suspect, who was arraigned on
Monday on one count of attempted
homicide, was remanded in prison by the
court.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Finally Manchester United Officially Sacks Louis Van Gaal by adiguns3(m): 12:26pm On May 23, 2016
Louis van Gaal has been sacked as manager of Manchester United, with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho set to be named as his replacement.
The Dutchman leaves after completing two years of a three-year contract.
BBC Sport reported on Saturday that United's FA Cup win over Crystal Palace would be his last game in charge.
Mourinho's appointment is expected to be confirmed after the 53-year-old Portuguese meets with senior United officials on Tuesday.
Van Gaal, 64, took control of United after leading the Netherlands to the semi-finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
The Old Trafford club finished fourth in the Premier League in his first season in charge to qualify for the Champions League.
But they finished fifth this term and will play in the Europa League next season.
They only scored 49 league goals, too, their lowest total since 1989-90.
Saturday's FA Cup success at Wembley gave United a first trophy since Sir Alex Ferguson delivered the Premier League title in 2013 in his last season before retirement, but it was not enough to stop Van Gaal from losing his job.
Mourinho, 53, was sacked by Chelsea last December, just seven months after leading the London club to the Premier League title.

How do the stats shape up?
Manchester United scored 49 Premier League goals this season - one more than Blackburn scored when they were relegated in 2012
For the second consecutive season, United ended up with a negative goal difference away from home
Went 11 home games without scoring a first-half goal earlier this season
They conceded the joint fewest goals in the league - 35 - along with Tottenham
The team made 3,222 backwards passes - the most in the league
Van Gaal used 33 players over the season - the second highest number after Liverpool (34)
Man Utd topped the clean sheet record table alongside Arsenal with 18.

Politics / Fayose Is Going Mad, He Needs Deliverance – APC by adiguns3(m): 1:32pm On Apr 20, 2016
The Publicity Secretaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-West states have called for spiritual assistance to Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti. The party chieftains said Fayose needed special deliverance session to overcome his mental condition that was negatively affecting the workings of his mind. In a statement, jointly signed by the APC spokesmen of Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos and Osun states, Messrs Omo’ba Abayomi Adesanya, Taiwo Olatunbosun; Sola Lawal; Joe Igbokwe and Morakinyo Akintola, the APC members noted that the call became imperative on account of the repetitive odd conducts by the governor before and after he assumed office for a second term. According to the statement, “We have observed that Fayose’s public conducts suggest that he has a disease of the mind and mental crisis that need a great assay of science and spiritual intervention to save him before he becomes dangerous to the society. “His recent public attitudes call for state of emergency about his mental health. His thoughts and emotions have been so impaired that he has completely lost decorum and conduct expected of a man that can safely live in peace with other people in a sane society where the law works.” “The last was his embarrassing and illegal communication with the Chinese authority urging President XI Jinping to refuse financial assistance to Nigeria to enable the country address her economic challenges. Also in China, he mounted a rostrum at a train station addressing travellers in tattered clothings and posted his photograph on the Internet, claiming that he was addressing investors in China even when there was no Federal Government’s approval that he ought to seek before a state can embark on such diplomatic trip,”, the statement noted. Also, the APC spokesmen alleged that “all these suggest that Fayose is suffering from unsound mind and needs quick medical and spiritual interventions before he becomes dangerous to the people he governs.”
But in a swift reaction, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State said the attack on Governor Fayose had exposed the APC’s image makers as a bunch of “illiterates and rascals who can only at best be spokesmen of a party like APC.” In a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Mr Jackson Adebayo, the PDP spokesman said “we in PDP believe that any serious party publicity officer should be image maker not using foul language on opponent unlike these nincompoops calling themselves image makers. “As far as we are concerned, Governor Fayose is doing what any right thinking person with love of Nigeria at heart should do. “It is not Fayose, who is providing good governance to the people that elected him that need medical test but the president and leadership of APC that have grounded Nigeria’s economy because they are neophytes.” Besides, the party noted that “the job of responsible image maker of any party is how to win followership for the party but the case of APC is an aberration, those who man the post are set of irresponsible and stinking politicians who are ignorant of what their job entails.” “It becomes embarrassing and laughable for publicity secretaries of a party that claims to be progressive to turn themselves to quack doctors and voodoo analysts on the governor of Ekiti state in determining his heath status even at the risk of committing great level of libel and slander. “It is not surprising that these bundles of rascals are today the spokesmen of the APC because the party itself is peopled by hooligans and blocked-brains who can not rule in a normal climes”, the party stated.

Religion / Court Finally Docks Synagogue Church Trustees, Engineers For Manslaughter by adiguns3(m): 1:08pm On Apr 19, 2016
Justice Lateef Lawal-Akapo of the Lagos High Court has ordered the arraignment of Synagogue Church of all Nations, SCOAN, trustees and two engineers alongside their companies involved in the September 12, 2014 building collapse that killed 116 persons in the Ikotun area of the state. They were finally arraigned on Tuesday after the judge dismissed the application filed by two of the defendants seeking to quash the charge. Since the Lagos State Government filed the 111 charges which border on criminal negligence, manslaughter and failure to obtain building permit, the defendants have severally stalled their arraignment by filing several applications. Immediately after Justice Akapo initial ruling, lead counsels representing the defendants made several attempts to convince the court not to proceed with the arraignment. While Chief Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, representing SCOAN argued that it would be improper to proceed with arraignment since the day’s business of the court was for ruling, Chief Akpofure, SAN, representing Hardrock Construction Company said he just lost his mother and would not be able to proceed.

Politics / I Never Said Petrol Will Sell For N40 Per Litre Under Buhari – David-west by adiguns3(m): 12:30pm On Apr 11, 2016
A former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Prof Tam David-West who served when Muhammadu Buhari was the Head of State, has denied saying that President Buhari will crash the price of petrol to N40 per litre, regretting that he must have been misquoted. This was as he stressed that it was shameful that Nigeria is still involved in importation of petroleum products despite having four refineries capable of meeting the energy needs of the country. He insisted that there is nothing wrong with the nation’s refineries. The Professor of Virology who spoke to Daily Sun in a telephone interview at the weekend, clarified that he only canvassed the removal of some 14 items currently listed in the petrol pricing template as that which would help crash petrol price to N40.
David-West said some of the 14 items included, Petroleum Equalization Fund, PEF, charges, transporters margin, lithering expenses among other charges, currently contained in the pricing template tend to increase the cost of petrol.
He equally took a swipe at those pushing for sustenance of subsidy regime, saying the scheme was a fraud that should not be encouraged by all Nigerians.
‘‘I signed the contract for the refinery in Port Harcourt in 1985. And I can tell you that there is nothing wrong with our refineries. But the issue is just that some people bent on sabotaging the efforts of government are frustrating plans to ensure that the refineries produce at optimal capacity.”
David-West equally berated proponents of the co-locating of refineries, arguing that such idea was a waste of resources.
‘‘How can you co-locate refineries within the existing refineries that NNPC has tagged as scraps? For you to co-locate refineries, that means the refineries still have value and can be efficient,’’ he said.

Politics / Saraki-led Senate Is Weak, Corrupt – TMG by adiguns3(m): 12:08pm On Apr 09, 2016
The Transition Monitoring Group has lambasted the Senate under the leadership of Bukola Saraki for maintaining what it termed a criminal silence in the face of the prosecution of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki for corruption.

The TMG attributed the continuous closed lips of the senators to the fear that the anti-corruption search-light would soon be beamed on them.

The TMG Chairman, Ibrahim Zikirullahi in a statement on Friday in Abuja, noted that
the shocking details that had emerged so far about how monies belonging to the people of Kwara State was allegedly diverted to Saraki’s personal accounts, was an indication that there was an urgent need to fish out corrupt politicians.

He said, “Before the very eyes of the people of Kwara and by extension Nigeria, we are seeing how the criminal alliance between Saraki and his current minion in the Kwara State Government House resulted in the continued payment of Saraki’s salary as governor, four clear years after he ceased to occupy office as governor.

“As if what has been coming out of the CCT is just a tip of the iceberg, Saraki’s name again showed up prominently on the infamous global list of tax dodgers and those hiding suspicious assets in offshore havens as revealed in the leaked Panama Papers.

“It stands in stark contrast that while the Prime Minister of Iceland who was mentioned in the Panama leaks has since resigned, Saraki and his fellow primitive accumulators in the Senate are waiting for the Nigerian people to forget and move on.

“While it is tragic that Saraki and his co-travellers have short changed the people of Kwara, and set them back in their quest for good governance, the bigger tragedy is the criminal silence in the Senate,” he said.

Speaking further, he added that “Even though it is well known that the Senate as an institution has remained morally challenged, and bereft of integrity over the years, whatever modicum of regard Nigerians have for this institution is about to be thrown away by the complicity of the insensitive lawmakers supporting Saraki.

“It speaks volumes about the character and antecedents of many of these so-called legislators, that they would put allegiance to their heavily tainted leader, above allegiance to the Nigerian people.”

Politics / Buhari’s Fight Against Corruption Going Very Well – Ex-efcc Boss, by adiguns3(m): 5:29pm On Apr 07, 2016
One-time Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mrs Farida Waziri on Thursday commended the ongoing war against corruption, noting that the war against graft was monumental. She made this known to journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, during a commendation service organised for the late Inspector General of Police, Chief Sunday Adewusi. Stressing that President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight “is going on very well,” Waziri said “Corruption has eaten deep into every fabric of the Nigerian society. So it is something we must all fight.” While calling on Nigerians to support the current administration in its anti-graft war, the former EFCC boss said: “It is not just for President Muhammadu Buhari alone. It is for everybody. If you know the dangers of corruption, you will know that all Nigerians should come together and say enough is enough. “This is because rich, the poor, the old and even the children are victims. “Those who are looking for jobs are all victims. So it is time that we all support this president to say enough is enough.”

A petrol tanker on Thursday morning collided with a truck conveying diesel at Aseese in Ogun State with fuel gushing out from the petrol tanker. This led to the grounding of both sides of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway. Many motorists and petrol tankers have been trapped in the gridlock as soldiers, policemen, road-safety and fire officials are currently diverting vehicles from the expressway to bush paths to avoid casualties.

Politics / Accept Defeat And Go, Allow Me To Concentrate – Wike To Amaechi by adiguns3(m): 1:59pm On Apr 07, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike
has asked former Governor of the state and
Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, to
accept the reality that his political party lost
the rerun elections and give way for the state
government to concentrate on rebuilding the
state.
Governor Wike stated that the responsibility of
reviving the state after the immediate past
administration failed to use the three trillion
naira (N3trillion) that allocated to the state
under its watch was enormous.
Declaring open a retreat on strengthening
capacity, efficiency and service delivery for
sustainable development for top government
officials at Onne Multi-Purpose Centre on
Thursday, Governor Wike pointed out that his
administration had deployed resources and
expertise to correct the failures of the
Amaechi administration.
He said, “I call on the former Governor and
leader of the APC in the State to accept the
reality that the re-run elections has woefully
been lost by his party and that Rivers people
have, again, overwhelmingly re-affirm their
confidence, trust and preference for the PDP.
“Therefore, spare us the agony of unnecessary
hostility and allow Rivers State to move
forward in peace and security. We expect you
to use your high office and connections to
attract meaningful development projects to
the State as I did during my time; not
senseless and unpatriotic distractions. Enough
is enough.
“All of us are aware of the sorry state of things
in Rivers State before May 29 2015. Between
October 25 2007 and May 28 2015 over three
trillion naira accrued from all revenue sources
to the State. Yet, they did nothing tangible with
that money to develop the State. Instead, they
squandered and diverted most of this money
into private pockets through bogus and ill-
fated projects. ”
The governor further claimed that all major
projects that Amaechi initiated were either
abandoned or not executed at all.

He said, “Let’s briefly look at the records since
they live in denial. The visible projects
initiated by former Governor Amaechi during
his eight years in office include: the Karibi
Whyte mega Hospital project, the Greater Port
Harcourt Project, the new Rivers State
University project; the RSSDA over-seas
scholarship scheme; the mosquitos eradication
scheme, the Adokiye Amiesemaka Stadium
project, the 500 primary schools project, the
23 mega secondary schools project, the ill-
fated less than 1.5kms monorail project, and
the dualization of some inner city roads.
“However, none of these projects was realised
before they left office despite spending
billions and billions of naira on them. For
example, the Karibi Whyte Hospital was not
just abandoned at the foundation stage, it
turned out to be a big scam on Rivers people.
“The Greater Port Harcourt project existed
mainly on paper without any tangible progress.
The Adokye Amiesimaka stadium was
abandoned half completed, while not even a
stone was laid for the proposed new Rivers
State University.
“Furthermore, the mosquito eradication
project was another huge scam, just as the
secondary school and overseas scholarships
scheme were misconceived, fraudulent and
unsustainable. In addition, they sold off three
of the State’s four independent power plants
initiated by the Governor Odili administration
to cronies and diverted the proceeds to
private ends.
“The narrative is not different in their much-
flaunted education and health projects. Their
own project audit before they left office
reveals that out of 498 primary schools they
initiated, only 116 were completed and the
rest abandoned. Similarly, out of the 23-mega
secondary schools they initiated, only one was
completed, the rest abandoned.
“Throughout the eight years, no public
secondary school was rehabilitated, while all
the general hospitals were willfully abandoned
to rot and decay. I challenge the former
Governor to controvert these facts in a public
debate. ”
He said despite assuming office to meet a
ruined state, his administration hit the ground
running, initiating critical projects and
programmes that have awaken the economy of
the state to the benefit of the people.
Wike added, “I made it clear from our first day
in office that we didn’t run for the office of
Governor for the fun of it. We ran to restore
hope to our people; provide first-class public
infrastructure, tackle insecurity and make
Rivers State a preferred destination for local
and foreign entrepreneurs.”

Education / WAEC Can Now Detect Candidates Who Select Leaked Answers – Official by adiguns3(m): 7:39am On Apr 07, 2016
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC)
says it is set to introduce a device that will
henceforth check collusion during its
examinations across the country.
The council’s Head, Media and Information, Mr
Damianus Ojijeogu said this in an interview
with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on
Wednesday in Lagos.
He said that during the 2014/2015
examination, it was discovered that collusion
was gradually replacing other previous forms
of malpractices recorded by the council,
including impersonation.
“We are planning to introduce software called
Item Differential Programme. This device is
one that would assist in detecting collusion in
any given examination.
“The introduction of the device is based on the
high level of collusion that we discovered
during the 2014/2015 examination.
“The device will be able to detect if candidates
have jointly answered a particular multiple
choice question, which we refer to as “item’’.
“For instance, if out of 100 candidates, 80 per
cent of them go for a particular item which
might be wrong as their answer, the device
will immediately flag such item and aggregate
the candidates,” he explained.
Ojijeogu noted that the device, if approved by
council, might be introduced at its 2016
November/December diet of the West Africa
Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)
for private candidates.
He, however, said if it was unable to introduce
it during the examination in November, it
would do that during the 2017 May/June diet
of the WASSCE.
According to him, the council is already doing
trial run and fine tuning the device.
He said that the device was first used by the
Kenyan Examinations Council, followed by that
of Ghana. (NAN).

Politics / Fuel Scarcity: No Respite In Lagos, Others by adiguns3(m): 7:29am On Apr 07, 2016
Marketers of petroleum products said on Wednesday that consumers might not enjoy much relief from the current fuel scarcity until next week due to inadequate supply of petrol. Though a vessel, which carried about 27 million metric tonnes of petrol, berthed at the Petroleum Wharf, Apapa, Lagos on Wednesday, and the discharge of its content is expected to start today (Thursday), marketers said supply had not kept up with demand. One of the two vessels that came in between Monday and Tuesday was said to have started discharging, with loading by Mobil, Forte Oil, Nipco Plc and others. Our correspondents gathered over 8,000 tickets had been issued to marketers to load Premium Motor Spirit at depots in Apapa, as the scarcity of the product persisted at many filling stations on Wednesday. A source, who is an official of an independent marketing firm, said, “We need a minimum of 250 trucks loading petrol. From Apapa alone, if 300 to 350 trucks are being loaded every day, we can begin to see an end to the scarcity. We are not doing up to 200 trucks currently. The number of unloaded tickets here in Apapa is more than 5,000. “In terms of supply to the depots, it is getting better; it is just that most of them have been very dry before now. It is not feasible that the scarcity will end tomorrow (Thursday), contrary to what the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources said. If it is feasible, you will know from the loading points here.” In Lagos, a litre of the product sold for between N120 and N250 at some filling stations, instead of the N86 and N86.50 official pump prices, while black market hawkers sold it for as high as N400 per litre. The National Operations Controller, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Mike Osatuyi, said, “If the product is available, we will load it. The NNPC should make the product available; we are ready to load 24 hours for the benefit of Nigerians. Our vehicles are ready and we have already paid. “We have over 8,000 tickets that we have already paid for and waiting for loading. Let them load us so that we can wet the system. They are ready to partner us and so are we. We don’t have any issue with the government, but they have to make the product available by whatever means.” Meanwhile, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers has said it is ready to work with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation to end the lingering fuel crisis in the country. The union noted in a statement on Wednesday that since 60 per cent of its members were involved in the distribution of petroleum products across the country, it had the capacity to end the fuel shortage. The President, NUPENG, Igwe Achese, said in a statement, “The Federal Government should also assist the marketers through the Central Bank of Nigeria to procure foreign exchange to import petroleum products in order to cushion the biting effects of fuel scarcity. “The union also enjoins the Federal Government to honour and pay all joint venture agreements to end the current lull in the upstream oil and gas business. The union calls on the Federal Government to make the refineries work optimally to reduce the dependence on foreign importation of petroleum products.” Meanwhile, queues of motorists and other petrol users failed to disappear on Wednesday in Abuja, Nasarawa and Kaduna states despite assurances from the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, that they would disappear by Wednesday or Thursday. This is coming as members of the 14-man committee inaugurated by the minister to mediate in the feud by factions of IPMAN held a meeting on Wednesday afternoon in Abuja and insisted that the queues across the country were largely because of the rivalry in the association. Last week, Kachikwu raised the committee and charged it with the task of doing everything possible to bring back peace to the association at the national, zonal and depot levels. Although the queues in Abuja had reduced marginally when compared to last week’s experience, the same could not be said of the situation in parts of Nasarawa and Kaduna states. The few filling stations that dispensed petrol along the Nyanya/Mararaba axis of the Abuja-Keffi Expressway had hundreds of motorcyclists, popularly known as okada riders, as well as motorists in queues waiting to be served. Similarly, filling stations run by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation were besieged by fuel seekers as the out-lets dispensed at the government approved price, while many others sold the product at higher rates. The Nipco, Total, NNPC and A. A. Rano filling stations on the Kubwa-Zuba Expressway, Abuja, had queues of motorists and okada riders. The two petrol stations, Total and Conoil, located right opposite the four towers of the NNPC in Abuja, dispensed products on Wednesday, but had long queues of anxious motorists.

Politics / Stop Using DSS To Harass Fayose, Other PDP Governors – Youths Warn Buhari by adiguns3(m): 12:48pm On Apr 06, 2016
A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, youth group known as the National Youth Frontier, PDPNYF, has warned President Muhammadu Buhari against using operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, to shut out opposition in Ekiti, Akwa Ibom and Rivers State. The youths in a statement issued in Abuja by its National Coordinator, Okai Austin accused Buhari of using security operatives to intimidate the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose and other PDP governors who are not sympathetic to his change mantra. Austin urged Buhari to realize that he is a beneficiary of democracy and as such, should protect the rights of fellow citizens as mandated by the constitution. He said: “What is happening in Ekiti State is alien in every ideal democratic setting. As I speak, some members of the legislature in Ekiti State have taken to hiding for fear of being assassinated by the DSS. “Nigerians saw the kind of brutal force the APC utilized during the Bayelsa and Rivers States elections wherein Nigerians were brutally killed under unclear circumstances. As at now, no one has being brought to book.” “We are aware party men like Ayo Fayose, Deji Adeyanju and some other loyalists are on the watch list of the DSS. Nothing must happen to them because we are aware of how intolerant this government is and the extent it can go to cover up its failures and excesses.” Austin also accused the DSS of been the militia arm of the All Progressives Congress led administration, adding that the agency now feels that the “only persons capable of causing breakdown of order are members of the PDP, therefore, no other group deserves to be monitored including Fulani herdsmen and the Boko Haram terrorist group.”

Religion / ‘herod Of Kaduna’ Will Die – Suleman Hits El Rufai Again by adiguns3(m): 9:02pm On Apr 05, 2016
Fiery preacher and Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman has once again predicted disaster for Kaduna State governor, Nasir El Rufai should he failed to reverse his religious bill. Suleman had in a recent message warned the governor not to pass the ‘license for preaching in Kaduna State’ into law or he would die. But El Rufai in his response told the preacher to tell him the exact date of his death, bearing in mind that death is irrevocable. “If that apostle is truly an apostle, he should mention the day I will die. There is nothing in that law that prevents or infringes the practice of religion. It seeks to ensure that those that preach religion are qualified, trained and certified by their peers to do it,” the governor had said. However, in a latest video obtained by DAILY POST, the Auhi-born preacher, who described the governor as ‘Herod of Kaduna’ said he had no apology over his earlier prophecy. “His days are numbered. It has started with slap, watch out for what will happen. I am not a rabble rouser, neither am I running my mouth. In the 1999 constitution, chapter four under the fundamental human rights, section 38; it says that: every one has the freedom of thoughts, conscience and opinion and they are very free to exercise their religion either in a community, in public or in private. In public means putting the speaker anywhere. “That means he is going against the nation. He is going against the constitution. The Herod said he did it in Abuja and nothing happened. He entered a Christian community in Kaduna and demolished the place and nothing happened. If I be a man of God, the Herod of Kaduna will die,” he warned.
