The Controversial singer, Habeeb Okikiola popularly called Portable is a fast rising musical artist in Nigeria.

Since the release of his first commercial song Zaazu Zeh, he has been trending all over the country. He has a lot of fans at the same time some believe he is overrated.

The points on both parties is always about
1. Is he arrogant?

2. Is Lagos behind his major success

3. Is he going to to go the distance in the music industry with the kind of music he produces?

4. Is he overrated or not?

1. Is he arrogant?

Portable is very outspoken and this can come off as arrogance to some people, but if you are from the same environment as him, you will understand you have to always fight for your every last dime otherwise you'll perish.

Portable is ready to speak his mind, he doesn't care who's in his way. We all witnessed this with what transpired between him and Poco Lee, when Poco tried to rip him or even with Kogbagidi, when he played fool with his money. If Portable hadn't reacted like that and defended himself, he would have lost a lot.

2. Is Lagos behind his major success?

If you are a wack artist, no matter how hard you try, you won't make it in Lagos. Owing to the fact that, Lagos is an amalgamation of cultures and languages, with a population of 20 million, impressive night life and clubs, it is an ideal place for an artist to blow up.

You just need a little push and blessing and boom, you are a superstar. Portable has been in the music industry since God knows when. People that use this Lagos factor card are somehow within their right to do so.

Lagos is conditioned in such a way that if you don't belong to a clique or have associates, it will be very difficult to make it. Even if you move to Lagos, you gat to find the right people, the right audience.

But getting to Lagos is the first step of a thousand. So, yeah, Lagos state is part of the reason Portable made it.

3. is he going to be able to go the distance in the music industry with the kind of music he produces?

Portable musical career depends on Nigerians enjoying his music and entertainment. I have heard people say he's a one hit wonder, yet he has songs with decent views and listeners.

People also says that he is too razz, oh what about Naira Marley? He fights a lot, oh, that is just Davido and Burna boy combined.

He is a snitch and that even makes Sixnine proud. Personally, all I see is the Nigerian version of Sixnine because they both thrive on controversy.

4. Is he overrated?

I will try my best to be as neutral as possible on this one. Majority of the people with the notion that Portable is overrated are the ones who have a problem with the language he uses in his music.

For example, the Reality TV star, Nina Onyenobi noted that his fans were over hyping the Zaazu song because she couldn’t understand what the singer, Portable, was saying. She shared a video of herself in her car with the song playing in the background, commenting that:

“I feel like you guys are overhyping this song because I’ve been trying so hard to understand what this guy is singing. It’s not working.”

Okay, we can say she has to understand Yoruba to appreciate the music but then there were also some Yorubas that were using Google to look for the meaning of Zaazu Zeh and some other slangs in the song, we still cannnot deny the fact his music is fire!

Many argued the fact that he is thug, yes, that he can't speak English, no, he acts razz and all that, but I personally don't see it like that.

This boy was discovered by Olamide and then we also have people like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Naira Marley, Tiwa Savage and other top music stars showing him love. This is nothing compared to being overrated because the talent is right there.

Before you can appreciate Portable crafts, you need to understand the language and the slangs. I think he is now trying to switch it up with English, in order to bring in more audience from other parts of Nigeria and Africa.

Conclusion

Portable is not overrated. He is talented and just need to polish it to perfection. Yes, Lagos is part of the reason he blew up but he is going to last long so far he has his fans and supporters. Lastly, he is arrogant and outspoken because you need to be to survive in Nigeria.
