Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by AGATHIAS: 6:58pm On Sep 13, 2017
Thanks bro. Will heed to your advice when next i apply.
Coefficient:

You don't understand.

I know you're not desperate, it doesn't seem like someone with your profile will be. Preparing your itinerary on paper is one thing; talking a VO through your plans convincingly is another.

In a visa application, there's no too much information. What is required is the right information presented truthfully and convincing enough. If you're going to New York for vacation like you stated, you should enthusiastically talk about such proposed trip. Not just answer 'for vacation and sightseeing' That's even tautology in itself; vacation and sightseeing could connote the same thing in this context.

How about you saying 'I intend to visit New York for my vacation this year. I have a few interesting places like xxxxx and xxxxx and xxxx to see. I also plan to take a road trip to xxxxxxx and will be doing xxxxxxx'

That, I believe is a more acceptable response. For one thing, it shows you're prepared for your trip. Such answers can lead the VO to ask about your finances and job which you're also expected to talk very well about.

Amen. Thanks bro. I will reapply next year.
Derende:
Sorry for the denial, I will advice you to give it some time before reapplying again. Better luck next time.
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 2 by AGATHIAS: 5:12pm On Sep 13, 2017
Thanks for your response. But i know i did not sound casual only that my response is not convincing enough. I did an itinerary of my proposed trip with cost that would be incurred. As for the Ghana response, replying with what you have posted, i thought is implying that i am revealing too much of what i was not asked. All what i posted is 100% truth, i am not desperate o. i have a better job here with a lot of prospects. Who knows, the state government may decides to send me on a training in US as they have done for my superiors. I am posting it to let other people learn from this, As i have also learn from people denials and approval. I will reapply next year insha Allah. Thanks once again for your sincere opinion.

Your answers are quite short and not informative enough. Heck, you sounded very casual, like you didn't even have enough information about your proposed trip. You're expected to sell yourself, explain in simple details your travel intent, itinerary.

When she asked if you've traveled before, you simply answered Ghana. You're even lucky she asked the purpose. Next time, answer comprehensively even though its Ghana.

'Oh yeah, I was in Ghana once, February this year for the burial of a colleague'

Compare that with the terse reply you gave up there and see which is more interesting and take the conversation further.

If you read this thread like you claimed, I expect your transcript to be better than this even if you are eventually denied the visa application as it is now. What you posted is not a true reflection of your claim.

I have been reading through this thread from the first page and i have learnt a lot from this forum.
Confidently, armed with the knowledge achieve from here i face the VO today at Lagos and my transcript
went as thus:

VO: Good morning
me: Good morning
VO: Your passport please
me: (handed her the passport)
VO: Where are you going in the US
me: Newyork
VO: For what purpose
me: Vacation and sight seeing
VO: Do you have anybody in the US
me: No
VO: Are you married
me: yes
VO: are you travelling with anybody
me: No
VO: What do you do
me: i am an engineer working for the state government as head of ....
VO: (Cuts in ) Have you travelled out of the country before
me: Yes
VO: (typing all the while, then stoped typing) To where
me: Ghana
VO: for what?
me: burial of a colleague
VO: When?
me: 20th of feb 2017
VO: (she handed me the blue copy) sorry blah blah

i was surprised by her verdict. the interviw ended within 2mins.
I am a senior officer working with the state govt for 7 years, married with kids.
i will want the gurus in the forum to analyze this and what might cause the denial.
Thanks

ondo_boi: how was it ma'am? do you mind sharing the experience?
Fine. I did badly in d current affairs. Expect questions like- athletes with d highest medals in olympic history? 2. Who is hosting 2014 soccer world cup. 3. Who is d senate president and speaker of house of reps. 4. How many senators and house of reps do we have. 5. Chairperson of african union 6. DG of NIMC. 7. What is the former name of NIMC. these are d ones i can remember out of the 10 questions in current affairs. Verbal reasoning and quantitative test are quite easy but d logical reasoning is time consuming. Wish u all d best.
