So what you guys bought was a simple observation radar, with 0 war time capabilities!

36D3 radar was never meant to guide missies in NE, its meant to detect incoming aircraft and do airspace management in war zone, and Boko Haram has no air force. Does your Thutlwa fight war in Sudan? No, SANDF deployed your radar for basic air traffic control in Sudan.

You clearly have no experience with maintenance:

Regrettably, in spite of these expenditures, the status of NAF fleet remained operationally appalling as only 3 Alpha-Jets, 2 C-130H and one each of Mi-24V and Mi-35P were serviceable as at 28 May 2015.

And from global security:

As of 2009, most of its fleets were grounded and its training institutions were constrained with shortages of technical skills such as instructors and institutional facilities. Lack of funding has been responsible for an inability to preserve aircraft regularly… Aircraft become due for Periodic Depot Maintenance (PDM) with time, and not by hours flown, because they are most of the time grounded for unserviceability.

The reasons for unserviceability are usually traceable to lack of spares occasioned by insufficient funding.

7 Aircraft out of over a hundred operational... only 7 grin grin grin grin

[size=13pt]

Unfortunately for you, your military tribunal report on NAF says clearly that the 7 aircraft fleet was as at May 28, 2015.....outdated !

NAF has released a new and more current report listing names of aircraft currently operational and fighting war, doing combat/recce missions as at October 28, 2015....most recent report from the new and current NAF chief of air staff, the final authority on Nigerian air force operations and capabilities.

" The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said it had between July and October 2015 conducted a total of 1448 air sorties in support of the ongoing counterinsurgency operation in the northeast and also deployed over 300 ground troops from its special forces to fight along with the Army in the field. .

The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed this on Wednesday.

The Air Force, he said, is doing everything possible to see how peace can be restored in the troubled areas as soon as possible.

According to him, the air component is fully integrated in the counterinsurgency operation plans and as such, NAF is using different aircrafts in its arsenal including F-7NI, Alpha Jet, C-130 AC, Agusta 109 LUH, Mi-35, Mi-24, Mi-17, Super Puma Helicopters, among others to carry out logistics support, reconnaissance and combat operations.

“Where ever the army is going in the battlefield, we give them the air support, provide intelligence and clear the ground for them to operate optimally he stated. "

The Committee established that the radars were excessively priced as a complete set of such radars (comprising 6 radars including the Control Centre) goes for Six Million US Dollars ($6m) averagely. The Committee observed that the radars were delivered without the vital component of Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) that distinguishes between own and adversary aircraft, which has significantly degraded the operational capabilities of the NAF in the North East.

No IFF means they are effectivly useless for anything other than controlling civilian air-traffic grin grin grin

IFF does NOT stop detection of aircraft. NAF knows when her jets are airborne. IFF is replacable by pilot to base radio comm codes and passwords. How do you think air spaces are managed by countries whose air forces have no long range radar?

Nigeria builds regional helicopter maintenance hanger

English.news.cn 2016-01-12 02:34:08

LAGOS, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Nigerian government on Monday said it has completed a massive maintenance hanger for the country's military helicopters and others within the West African countries.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall Abubakar Sadique, disclosed this in Abuja, the nation's capital, during a meeting with governor of central north state of Niger, Abubakar Sani Bello.

Sadique said the hanger, which is located in Minna, the capital of Niger State, is aimed to become a regional hub for helicopter maintenance in partnership with the state government and other critical stakeholders.

He said the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is doing its possible best to ensure that security is maintained and sustained in the state through the presence of personnel, facilities and formations.

"The NAF is looking at the possibility of enhancing our operations in Minna. We have a hanger that we have constructed already, which we hope that it will turn out to be a big maintenance center for helicopters not only for the NAF, but other air forces in West African that operate the same helicopters," he added.

"We have completed the hanger. The aim is to make that hanger a maintenance workshop for the helicopters. We are working toward actualizing that not only with other partners but also with the Niger state government as well the Americans," said the NAF chief.

On his part, Bello said his administration is looking to partner with the air force in the area of capacity building and security particularly around the Minna Air Port.

He also expressed hope that the establishment of the helicopter hanger maintenance center will not only strengthen the security of the state, but will as well boost its economy.

http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2016-01/12/c_134999210.htm

NAF is to maintain helicopters for the whole West African sub-region, and they have 30 years experience in Alpha Jet, L-39 Albateoss maintenance, F-7 jets are still almost brand new and cheap to maintain .

Your claims = Garbage.

Lesotho? Zimbabwean police can stop the coup that you call a war. Any tanks, artillery, or jet used in Lesotho civil unrest? No, thats No war.

Nice photos THIZA....except that they are all PEACE-TIME hollywood demo pictures of SANDF...

So South African military only fights war inside photographs not it real life? Your military is NOT battle tested, the whole of your country has NOT deployed more than one brigade of 4,000 soldiers in battle at a time, and that was 25 years ago in Angola when the Cuban teeenage army of boys and girls beat up the older SADF.

Thanks to the 60,000 UNITA troops of Savimbi that was doing 90% of the fighting for you in Angola bush war, the 4,000 SADF brigade would have been surrounded and wiped out in one hour by the inexperienced and young Cuban army of mere conscripts.

Can you show us a war, a big war were SANDF fights alone and deploys all those shiny weapons with at least 5,000 man brigade ?

I mean modern war, I mean SANDF in charge not UN peace mission, I mean show us a war SANDF has fought with those weapons grin grin

The overall performance of the Eagle is KNOWN and PUBLUSHED on Nigerian defence HQ official website and that is all a wise military will disclose about such sensitive high level command equipment.

"The Eagle Mobile Central Command Post is a vehicle mounted with various Information Communication and Technology equipment. This on board equipment gives the Theatre Commander the opportunity to have first hand information of the battle space. From the vehicle the commander has access to both ground troops and air assets within the battle space.

Why not? Is his brain limited by SAAB engineers?

Which one of your South African SAAB Engineers has that type of high class CV ? None.

Plus the fact that Chaka C2 is getting old in technology, dated almost 10 years ago, its capacity is older technology of many years ago, the world has advanced beyond that level.

Eagle C2 is latest 2015/2016 modern technology.

Major General C.T Olukoju of Nigerian army as a Colonel 5 years ago.

He is the brain behind the Nigerian army Eagle battle space command post.

Maj.Gen Olukoju had to attend five different universities around the world to study before getting to his technical level as at 2011.

African militaries have men like this, he has won science and technology many awards from the government of Brazil.

THE SUN NEWSPAPERS
Abuja
Monday, Sept. 05, 2011.

"His commitment to study earned him the second in the order of merit. He won the Minister of Defence’s award.

Apart from this award, Olukoju was given awards by the Brazilian Government and the college for presenting the best paper in Science and Technology: “Nigerian Space Programme: Challenges and Prospects,” and would give a copy to the National Agency in charge of Space Development to study the recommendations to see how to enrich the nation’s space programmes."
