The Ondo State Coalition of Interest Groups expresses deep gratitude to our fellow citizens, both within the country and abroad, for their unwavering dedication to democracy and the restoration of governance in Ondo State. We recognize and appreciate the collective voices that have advocated for an end to proxy governance during the absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in Ondo State over the past few months.

We are particularly pleased with the display of love for our dear state and the active participation of all individuals in the various engagements organized by the group, hosted by the Convener Dr. Kayode Ajulo, OON, SAN. We cannot but salute the commitment of numerous civic organizations within and outside Ondo State, who consistently demanded the supremacy of the rule of law and constitutional order during the political crisis caused by those who sought personal gains from the unfortunate illness of Governor Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu. We must also acknowledge the invaluable role played by our esteemed elder statesmen, led by Pa Reuben Fasoranti, and the Ondo Redemption Front (ORF), patriotic members of the Ondo State Executive Council led by Engr Radar Obe among other groups.

While normalcy is gradually being restored in Ondo State following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, we emphasize that the journey is not yet complete. We urge the government, under the leadership of Acting Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, to ensure the restoration of hope to our people by resuming full-time governance and making up for the lost ground in the past months.

We implore stakeholders in Ondo State, especially politicians within the ruling party, to provide the necessary support to the government for the overall well-being of our people. This collaborative effort ensures the continuity of governance and stability in our beloved state.

Together, we exemplify the strength of civic engagement and the power of a united citizenry. Let this serve as a testament to the resilience of our democracy.

...say NNPCL Enthroned transparency

The Forum of Former and Serving Lawmakers in Nigeria has hailed President Bola Tinubu for reappointing Mile Kyari as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. 

In a letter of appreciation to the President signed by its national president, Hon. Yemi Alli, the Forum said the appointment is well deserved and an indication of the president's ambition to bring an economic turnaround in the downstream oil sector.

Alli noted that Kyari has enthroned transparency and accountable in the oil and gas sector, adding that his impressive ideas and knowledge have brought massive improvement.

"Mr. President Sir, many of us are happy with this appointment because the GMD has demonstrated commitment to drive revenue growth and fortify the resilience of the economy in the Petroleum industry," the leader said. 

"Before his appointment, Nigeria fell far below their OPEC quota of crude oil production for over eight years. But the award of pipeline surveillance contract to Tantita pipeline security outfit, owned and controlled by Tompolo, has caused over 70% of the oil criminals in the Niger Delta region to quit operations. This has increased the number of barrels produced per day (bpd), giving Nigeria a huge boost to be able to meet her OPEC quota.

"Apart from recording profits for the company, Kyari has also led the NNPCL to resolve age-old disputes with its business partners, notably the International Oil Companies (IOCs).

"The Kyari-led NNPCL also paid Nigeria’s joint venture cash call arrears to the IOCs totaling $5.1Billion. This was made possible through the introduction of the Alternative Funding Approach (AFA), which replaced the erstwhile cash call payment. The AFA model has allowed for the utilization of NNPCL's to finance its share of joint venture operations, thereby reducing the country’s reliance on external borrowing and increasing the flow of investment into the industry."

The group, however, reiterated its support for the President and his administration.

Third Republic Senate President, Ameh Ebute, has applauded President Bola Tinubu over the reappointment of Mele Kyari as the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Senator Ebute, in a letter to the President, described the reappointment of Kyari as well deserved and a reward for a job well done.

Recall that President Tinubu last month appointed Pius Akinyelure as the new Board Chairman of the NNPCL with effect from December 1, 2023.

This was as he reappointed the incumbent Group Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mele Kyari, for another term.

In reaction, Senator Ebute thanked President Tinubu for picking Kyari, who he said has displayed unwavering dedication, remarkable competence, and exceptional leadership qualities.

In his previous role as Group Managing Director, he said Kyari demonstrably transformed the NNPC, breathing new life into an organisation that was long plagued by inefficiency, opacity, and mismanagement.

"Mallam Mele Kele Kyari has proven himself to be an exceptional leader and a true patriot. His unwavering dedication to the progress of our nation is evident in the transformative changes he has spearheaded during his tenure," the letter partly reads.

The Ondo Redemption Front has demanded for a public apologies from the Attorney General and Commissioner for justice in Ondo State, Mr Charles Titiloye over his claim, that Dr Kayode Ajulo, OON, SAN, is “spreading misinformation”, when he alerted the public, about the forgery of the signatures of the ailing governor of the State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu. Recall, that the Senior Advocate of Nigeria was first to expose the forgery of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's signature by certain members of the Ondo State Government cabinet.

As a group, we demand a public apology from the Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Titiloye, to Dr Kayode Ajulo, OON, SAN, and other patriotic citizens of Ondo state, for the malicious Claim, that he lied, when he alerted the world of forgery of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu's signature, as events, of the past few days, have not only vindicated the legal luminary's claim, but that such, is now a subject of investigation, by various security agencies.

The unethical conduct of Mr Titiloye undermines the trust citizens place in their elected officials and compromises the integrity of our democratic processes.

The citizens of Ondo State deserve transparency and honesty from their government. We further call upon the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into this matter and hold those responsible for the forgery accountable for their actions.

Dr Kayode Ajulo's commitment to exposing corruption and upholding the rule of law must be acknowledged and respected. Failure to address this issue promptly will erode public confidence in the government's ability to uphold the principles of justice and fairness.



We expect the Ondo State Government to take swift and decisive action to rectify this situation and restore the public's trust. Anything less would be a disservice to the people of Ondo State and an affront to the principles of good governance.

This year's Christmas in my beloved local government might be postponed, travelling by indigenes from all over the world for the usual celebration in the beautiful serene local government blessed with Igarra and Ososo rocks, mountains and hills may be placed on hold, the usual weddings, funerals, family thanksgivings, annual re-unions of alumni associations and all forms of ceremonies might be done in downgraded tones, characterized by sober reflections and low morals because the government is simply on holidays while criminal marauders are having a field day across the length and breadth of the local government.


From the central towns of Igarra to the pottery town of Ojah, the tourist delights town of Ososo and the boundary community of Okpe extending to the north eastern part of the local government such as Bekuma, Ekpe, Makeke, Ogugu, the entire local government is eclipsed by criminal elements who ostensibly, courageously and without fear run a parallel government. A situation that is likened to the pre-Buhari era where over 14 local governments were under the total control of the dreaded Boko Haram in the north eastern part of Nigeria. As we speak Akoko-Edo is cut off from Edo state, security and infrastructure wise. Pitiably, Akoko-Edo people are now at the mercy of bandits, kidnappers and the government appears helpless. Who is the next victim? Only God knows and we are all expected to keep quite while a few court jesters are clapping for the government all with a view to keep earning their peanut salaries.


Our diaspora (residents outside the LGA) are daily inundated with news of kidnapping incidents almost on an hourly basis and the fear is palpable. Just few days ago a driver was kidnapped and his body was later found in the forests of Owan East Local Government. Two weeks earlier it was widely reported that Eight ( women on their way from the market were kidnapped and a ransom of Fifteen Million Naira Only (N15,000,000.00) was demanded by these criminals for each victim before they are released. These women are reported to come from Ekpe, Bekuma, Makeke and Ogugu. Few days earlier, two men were killed at Ojah, a very beautiful community known for pottery making globally, contributing to the GDP of Edo State. Across the local government, farmers have abandoned their farms and the people are at risk of food crisis with inflation soaring high, as high as 25% (year on year) on the few available ones, hunger is looming while the state government is on holidays.


In October, while the Governor, was busy playing politics inaugurating so called Senior Special Assistants, SSAs, in the local government, I raised a patriotic alarm over the needless activity as that is completely at variance with the priority of the people at the moment but their security, road infrastructure, adequate teachers for their schools and general welfare of all. Surprisingly, in a very weak and cowardly reaction, the government sponsored an article aimed at tarnishing my name and integrity and rewarded the author with a Special Adviser,SA, position few days thereafter.


However, and to the consternation and bewilderment of the people of Akoko-Edo, the state government clearly attempted to cleverly dodge the key issues raised in my notes. For how long will a state government continue to play politics with the welfare of his own people? There should be an end to politics and there must be effective governance that is result-based, one that prioritizes the greatest happiness of the citizens who elected them into power.


Today, the people of Akoko-Edo are contemplating postponing Christmas. The village squares across Ibillo, Igarra, Ugboshi, Uneme-Akpama and others are being swept clean to pave way for the gathering of the village elders for a referendum over the possibility of a collective plebiscite over this sorry case of insecurity till the government wakes up from their obvious policy slumber.


Today, we have scores of SSAs and SAs littered all over the place without clear terms of reference, they eagerly await their US$78.00 monthly salaries while they have matching orders to deliver their party in the next election by hook or by crook, yet the citizens live in fear, agony, uncertainty and lacking in hope for a solution to these intractable security crises that has enveloped the local government.


Over the years and historically, Akoko-Edo people are not known to be cowards and they will never be conquered by bandits and criminal elements obviously aided by some evil-minded individuals. The state government must discharge its duties without fear or bias, the whole essence of governance as stated in the 1st schedule of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is the overall welfare of the people, anything less than this amounts to abysmal failure and abandonment of constitutional duties. Liberate Akoko Edo now to avoid a postponed Christmas and avoid needless agonies.

The Deputy Spokesman of the House of Representatives, Chief Philip Agbese, has described the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, as the shining light of President Bola Tinubu's administration.

Agbese who spoke to newsmen on Sunday in Abuja said Edu is the pacesetter in the current government with dynamism, commitment and dedication to the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Describing the minister as a friend of the poor and downtrodden, he added that she is implementing her well-designed blueprint to better the lives of the common man.

Just within 100 days in office, Agbese said he has lost count of the communities Edu has visited, providing succour to the vulnerable while responding swiftly to emergency, humanitarian and poverty challenges of citizens.

A new breed of leader, the lawmaker said the minister is breaking new grounds and reshaping the landscape with her charisma, resourcefulness and penchant for excellence.

He, therefore, charged other ministers to emulate Edu and prioritise the needs of citizens.

"Betta Edu is making young Nigerians proud. She is the shining light of the current administration. No surprise. Edu came prepared and knew the tasks at hand," Agbese said.

"She understands the needs of the common man and designed interventions and programmes to lift millions out of poverty. Some of the schemes include: The Renewed Hope shelter for Refugees, Poor, and IDPs, End Hunger Programme, Grow Nigeria, Code Nigeria, Government Enterprise, and Empowerment Programme and GEEP(rebranded Market Women’s Moni which was flagged off last week by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu).

"Others are the Conditional Cash Transfer, CCT, which after careful verification and in-person identification is on going, Renewed Hope Community and Social Development Agency 2.0, Youth Empowerment and Social Support Operations YESSO 2.0, Humanitarian Trust Fund, Humanitarian Hub among others.

"Unlike time past, Edu has made the entire process transparent. She even halted the controversial N-Power scheme. She intends to expand the programme to eventually accommodate more less privileged Nigerians.

"I'm excited about what is ahead. My advice for this charismatic woman is to keep the fire burning. Meanwhile, other ministers can learn from her as what we need in this country now is results".

Ondo State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Rasaq Obe, stirred fresh controversy yesterday after telling Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, that he has confirmed the forgery of the signature of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Recall that a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Dr Kayode Ajulo had earlier in the week raised similar concerns that some government officials in Ondo are forging the signature of Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor of the state, on documents.

Speaking in an interview on Arise TV, Ajulo said the absence of Akeredolu has created a huge vacuum in the state.

Meanwhile, there are feelers that Governor Akeredolu has been recuperating in Ibadan, Oyo State, since his return from medical vacation.

Supporters of Aiyedatiwa had earlier raised the alarm that Governor Akeredolu’s signature was being forged to siphon money from the state coffers.

Obe, in a letter to Aiyedatiwa dated December 7, 2023, said the situation required immediate action.

In the letter, Obe said, ” It has been confirmed that the signature of Mr. Governor on a certain document has been forged.

“The irregularities in the signature were first observed when a file from my ministry was returned through the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). This is the only file that has been returned so far out of the five files that were sent for Mr. Governor’s approval about two months ago.

“Upon closer inspection, I noticed significant differences between the suspicious signature and handwriting and Mr. Governor’s known signatures and handwriting in the file. Concerned about the gravity of the situation, I decided to seek a forensic review before disclosing my discovery. I sent the suspicious signature, handwriting samples, and copies of the old regular signatures to forensic experts, who have now confirmed that the suspicious signature and handwriting were indeed forged.

“Despite the inherent risks involved, I have chosen to fulfill the obligations of my office by reporting this alarming development to you as the highest-ranking member of the State Executive Council after Mr. Governor. I firmly believe that this is the course of action our esteemed leader, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, CON, would take in such a situation.

“Considering the possibility that such forgery may be widespread, this heads-up is of utmost importance to the government and people of Ondo State. I have attached a copy of the forensic report and relevant pages from the file for your reference.

“I urge you to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and take appropriate actions to address the situation. It is crucial that we restore the integrity of our processes and ensure that such a disturbing development is swiftly punctuated.”

Obe confirmed to reporters that he wrote the letter but declined to give further details.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo State, Ms Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, has explained why the governor will not resign his position

The commissioner, in an interview on Arise TV yesterday, explained that the governor was not incapacitated, and so there was no need for him to resign.

She stated that the governor still performs all his duties and that the only thing he wasn’t doing at the moment was attending social events like weddings. She explained that the governor had been attending to memos and in touch with the cabinet members.

When asked further why Akeredolu, a senior advocate of Nigeria, hasn’t considered resigning from office, the same way he, as the then President of the Nigerian Bar Association, called on the then President Umaru Yar’Adua to resign on account of his health, the commissioner insisted that the governor wasn’t incapacitated and didn’t have to resign.

She noted, “The governor is not incapacitated, I still maintain that. He would have easily done the needful. The governor still gives approvals. No issue, other than the heightened political issues.”

Speaking further on why the State Executive Council hasn’t in line with Section 189 (1)(a) of the 1999 Constitution (As amended) declared the governor as incapable, she said the governor wasn’t incapacitated and the executive council had no such plan.

“Unless the governor is incapacitated, there is no reason to evaluate his health,” she added.

When asked why he had remained in Ibadan if truly he wasn’t incapacitated, the commissioner explained, “The governor is still recuperating having gone through a very bad illness. I can’t come here and lie – I know Nigerians are watching – that the governor can run and play tennis. That is not true.

“The governor is still recuperating. His psychomotor, affective and cognitive skills are still intact, but he’s not as strong as he was in the past.”

Asked about the nature of the governor’s illness, Ademola-Olateju stated, “It’s not a very good illness, I think it’s a somatic problem (related to the body, especially as distinct from the mind). He has lost some weight, and he once told us that after 40, nobody is well.”

In spite of the commissioner’s claim that the governor is not incapacitated, a civil society group, Ondo State Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (OSCOCSO) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Ondo State House of Assembly to declare Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor or face mass protest.

It also invited the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate allegations of theft and funds mismanagement in the state.

The OSCOCSO said its ultimatum was due to a constitutional crisis in the state following the governor’s prolonged absence from office due to ill health.

Executive Director, Life and Peace Development Organization (LAGDO) Franklyn Oloniju, who spoke at a joint press briefing in Akure, said it was alarming that the Ondo Assembly failed to activate relevant constitutional provisions to appoint Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor even after the peace move facilitated by President Bola Tinubu.

Oloniju said the Ondo Assembly’s inaction was a dereliction of duty and a violation of Section 190 of Nigeria’s constitution (as amended).

He stated that the Governor’s prolonged absence has created a vacuum in the leadership of the state, leaving the government rudderless and unable to effectively address the pressing issues facing the people of Ondo State.

According to him, “The failure of the House of Assembly to act promptly has exacerbated this crisis and is causing unnecessary hardship and uncertainty for the people of Ondo State.

“We call on the Ondo State House of Assembly to immediately redress this lacuna and own up to its constitutional duty by designating the Deputy Governor as Acting Governor. This is essential to restore normalcy, ensure continuity of governance, and protect the interests of the people of Ondo State.

The North East Progressives Agenda (NEPA) has passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of the North East Development Commission (NEDC) led by its Director-General, Alhaji Mohammed Goni Alkali.

In a statement signed by its national president, Dr. Gabriel Ahmed, the group hailed Alkali for his transformational leadership and monumental strides in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the region.

Ahmed noted that the NEDC has continued to implement Alkali's well-designed blueprint for the North-East. 

He added that the NEDC is strategically assessing, reviewing, and implementing key crucial programs that will drastically ameliorate the poverty matrix in the zone.

He said not only has the agency effectively tackled the menace of poverty, but it has also given attention to illiteracy, and ecological challenges in the North-Eastern states.

Ahmed said the NEDC's interventions have touched many aspects including agriculture, education, job creation/ entrepreneurship, health, infrastructure, and many others.

The group said the Commission has gone beyond leading the reconstruction and development of the northeast to provide support and succor to the people.

Since his reappointment, Ahmed said the NEDC carried out massive empowerment, skills acquisition and training, infrastructural development, and many more across the member states.

Describing Alkali as a patriot, with an unblemished record of integrity and accountability, Ahmed said he has ensured strict and prudent utilization of the agency’s resources to meet the needs of the common people.

"As we approach the end of the year, we have taken our time to appraise the NEDC being the sole Federal Government agency that oversees our region," the statement said. 

"2023 came with its peculiar challenges. There were the general elections and the subsequent removal of fuel subsidy. There was also confusion over the NEDC leadership. 

"However, in the wisdom of President Bola Tinubu, Mohammed Goni Alkali was reappointed for a second term as a reward for his hard work, dedication, and integrity. 

"Despite the challenges, Alkali has hit the ground running as if there was no bridge in the first place. His projects and interventions have cut across entire states and sectors from agriculture to education, job creation/ entrepreneurship, health, infrastructure, and many others.

"The Commission has seemingly refused to be extinguished even in the face of adversity, as it has since its establishment. No surprise some disgruntled elements unable to manipulate Alkali have begun a campaign of calumny against him.

"On behalf of the entire North East, we are by this press statement passing a vote of confidence on the NEDC leadership. No amount of mischief, conspiracy, and agenda will deter Alkali from his target. 

"The NEDC has become a model agency in Nigeria. We want to urge Alhaji Alkali to continue his giant strides and repay the confidence that President Tinubu has shown in him".

We Didn't Challenge Kogi Guber Polls At Tribunal, SDP Stakeholders Declare, Give Reasons



Stakeholders from the Social Democratic Party, SDP in Kogi state said the party didn't file any petition against the election of the Governor-elect, Ahmed Usman Ododo in the interest of democracy.



The National Stakeholders Forum Chairman, Honourable Ayo Momodu who briefed newsmen in Abuja on the outcome of the poll said the participation of the SDP in the election was an indication of the interest the people of Kogi State had in the electoral process that culminated in winners and losers. 


He said the SDP Stakeholders Forum acknowledges this fact with equanimity. 


Momodu said it is essential to state that the election in Kogi state that produced the candidate of the All Progressive Congress as the winner is indeed the people's wishes. 



Momodu said given the prevailing realities on the ground, all stakeholders of the SDP have accepted this fact.



He said, "The SDP Stakeholders Forum, after extensive scrutiny of the results submitted by party agents across the wards and local government areas in Kogi State, we wish to state that the elections were free, fair, and credible. 



"The SDP has reviewed its earlier stance by accepting the election's outcome as the people's wish. The people of Kogi State also demonstrated the desire to take their destinies into their own hands, evident in the election outcome.



"There is no element of doubt that the preferred candidate won the election. It is also a demonstration of the people's will to exercise their electoral rights to choose leaders that would work in the state's interest towards translating our hopes and aspirations into tangible reality. 



"The Secretary of the  Election Petition Tribunal in Kogi State has claimed that he was attacked and petitions have been stolen. Let truth be told that the petitions are not filled before the Secretaries of Tribunals but the registry.  We wish to reiterate again that the SDP nor its candidate didn't  fill any petitions at the election tribunal



"What transpired in Kogi state should serve as a reference point in the conduct of elections. The people came out in their numbers, and their votes counted across the divide" he added



He also thanked  the leadership of the Social Democratic Party for its conduct during and after the country's general elections. It indicates the ideology of the party that emphasized entrenching democratic principles at all times. 



"Sustainable growth and development are essential to the party's leadership; hence, playing politics without bitterness, all political parties must take a cue from the Social Democratic Party.


Democracy in Nigeria has come to stay. However, we are duty-bound to respect the people's wishes before, during, and after elections. The case of Kogi state gubernatorial elections serves as a good example" he added



"The SDP Stakeholders Forum congratulates the winner of the gubernatorial election in Kogi state. We have accepted the outcome in good faith and pledge our support to the incoming administration in Kogi state. 



"Our position is that those challenging the election's outcome in court are going on a wild goose chase as there is nothing to question—the need to come to terms with this reality of importance at the risk of chasing shadows. 



"The SDP Stakeholders Forum calls on other political parties to be magnanimous in defeat, accept the election's outcome, and give peace a chance. The issues in Kogi state require collective action regardless of party affiliations. 



"We desire to put it on record that the Social Democratic Party didn't file any petition against the winner of the gubernatorial elections in Kogi state. Our hands of fellowship have been extended to the election winner, and we are willing to be partners in progress in the onerous task ahead.

*Akeredolu's Health: Court Compels Ondo Assembly, Speaker to appoint Medical Panel*



The Ondo State High Court sitting in Akure, today granted leave to Applicants in a suit, seeking an Order of Mandamus, to compel the Ondo State House Assembly and the Speaker, to Constitute a medical panel to assess Governor Akeredolu's health status.

The suit, brought before the Court, by Olufemi Lawson, Isijola Kike, Ologun Ayodeji and Arogbo Olaniyi, underscores the paramount importance of upholding public trust and ensuring transparency by elected officials. The call for a medical panel seeks to provide clarity on Governor Akeredolu's health, having been away from the State, for nearly six months.

The Applicant filed an exparte motion before the Honorable court on the 25th of October, 2023.

The motion was brought pursuant to section 6(6b) of the 1999 constitution as amended as wells as order 22 rule 1 of the Ondo State High Court Rules.

The Applicant Prayed for an order of mandamus against the first and second respondents to compel them to carry out statutory and constitutional duties on the 3rd respondent as stipulated under section 189(4) as amended of the 1999 constitution.

The grounds were predicated on 11 grounds and In line with the rules of court, the applicant statement of claim and a 30 Paragraph affidavit. Attached to the affidavit is one exhibit marked exhibit A, which is a letter written to the second respondent by the applicant through their counsel. Applicant In line with the rules of court, relied heavily on all that is contained in the written address.

Upon submission of the Legal Team to the Applicant led by Dotun Ajulo, Fadeshola Ojamomi, A.V Àjàyí and K.A Mogbojuri, the court ruled thereof;

Justice A. I Kolawole in his ruling, stated that the hurdles and lacuna associated with Public Interest litigation has since been set aside in the case of Adetona V Federal Republic of Nigeria and Inakoju v Adeleke.
The Court therefore granted leave for mandamus to compel first and second respondent to carry out their constitutional duties pursuant to section 189(4) CFRN, 1999 as amended.

Matter was therefore Adjourned to 11th January , 2024.

100 Lawyers under the aegis of "100 Ondo State Lawyers For Democracy" have called for the resignation of the Ondo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sir Charles Titiloye, Esq., over his alleged involvement in several unlawful and unconstitutional acts.


In a letter addressed to the Attorney General, the lawyers accused him of being complicit in the illegal inauguration of newly appointed Local Government officials, defying a court order in the process. They also faulted him for refusing to advise on the commissioning of the Deputy Governor as Acting Governor despite the incapacitation of the Governor.



The lawyers further expressed concerns over the Attorney General's defense of the government against Dr Kayode Ajulo, SAN allegations of forgery of the incapacitated governor's signature, accusing him of lying and undermining public confidence in his ability to uphold justice and truth.




In addition to demanding his resignation, the lawyers also called for the Attorney General to publicly apologize to the National and State Bar Associations within seven days. Failure to do so, they warned, could lead to a report to the Legal Practitioner's Disciplinary Committee, seeking his disbarment.




The lawyers' actions highlight the growing concern over the integrity of the Ondo State government and its commitment to upholding the rule of law. The Attorney General's alleged involvement in these unlawful acts has cast a shadow over his leadership and raised questions about his fitness to hold such a high-ranking position.

No fewer than 100 civil society groups have passed a vote of confidence on the Director General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastral Office (NMCO), Engr. Obadiah Simon Nkom, for his exceptional and transformative leadership so far. 


The groups, under the aegis of the Nigeria Civil Rights Movement, said that Engr Nkom has effectively and efficiently aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.

It is disheartening to note that both the Nigerian government and mobile global system service providers are yet to effectively grapple with or find solutions to this menace.

Allow us to shed light on the distressing nature of these calls. Imagine receiving an incessant barrage of calls, up to 30 within a single minute, causing extreme annoyance, agitation, and disruption to your regular calls and transactions. These calls are deliberately intended to unsettle you, leaving you feeling vulnerable and helpless. The callers then proceed to demand a certain amount of money from you, using the cessation of these annoying and persistent calls as leverage.

What makes matters worse is that if you dare to accuse the caller, they will brazenly concoct lies, claiming that either you or someone closely associated with you defrauded them. They will vehemently deny any wrongdoing, making it nearly impossible to conduct a proper inquiry into their false allegations. It is indeed distressing to contemplate the number of innocent citizens who are presently paying for such scams in order to live in peace and enjoy uninterrupted use of their phones.

We implore the Nigerian Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) to step in immediately and take decisive action against these perpetrators. It is of utmost importance that our law enforcement agencies prioritize the investigation and apprehension of those responsible for these heinous acts. Furthermore, we call upon mobile global system service providers; MTN, GLOBACOM, AIRTEL, 9MOBILE, NTEL etc to collaborate closely with the authorities in developing robust strategies to combat this growing threat. It is imperative that they invest in advanced technological solutions to trace and block these hidden numbers effectively. By working hand in hand with law enforcement agencies, service providers can play a pivotal role in safeguarding their customers' well-being and preserving the integrity of their services.

The South-South Progressive Agenda has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Labour Party to discontinue their case against Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State.

In a statement signed by Dr. Lucky Godswill, the group called on the opposition to join hands with the governor to turn around the fortunes of the state.

Recall that an Appeal Court sitting in Lagos, in a unanimous decision, recently affirmed the election of Governor Fubara.

The Appellate Court dismissed four separate appeals filed by Tonye Cole of the APC, Beatrice Itubo of the LP, Innocent Ekwu of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), and Lulu Briggs Dumo of the Accord Party.

Dr Godswill maintained that the Appeal Court verdict was an affirmation of the trust reposed in Fubara by Rivers people, describing the judgment as detailed, articulated, and comprehensive.

He said it is time to consolidate on the early strides of Governor Fubara, who according to him, is doing well in office.

The group said the governor has made significant efforts to take the state to the next level despite obvious distractions from the judiciary that slowed down the pace of development.

“We commend the judiciary for this victory, for demonstrating uncommon will by validating the mandate freely given to Governor Fubara. This verdict was an affirmation of the trust reposed in him by Rivers people and would serve as a morale booster," the statement said.

“We, therefore, call on members of the opposition to join hands with the Governor to take Rivers to enviable heights in terms of economic prosperity and human capital development. We want to urge all parties at this time to sheath their swords.

"Rivers comes first, the reason to support good policies and programmes of the governor. We need to give Fubara space to focus on governance".

I had for years been facinatingly enamoured by the highest professional recognition in Nigeria for lawyers mostly in practice called "the silk".

This is like the zenith of personal desire, fulfilment and professional accomplishment for lawyers in Nigeria and virtually all lawyers want and desire to see that day when they will be pronounced by the Legal Practitioners and Privileges Committee.

So every year this committee would identify deserving legal practitioners, those who must have not only met the professional qualifications, but also found worthy in character, just like its said during convocation in the university back then, using that phrase "having satisfied this institution in "character and learning "

So every year not only do the lawyers in practice look forward with bated breath, members of the public also join legal practitioners to await those who will step up to wear the silk, those who will enter the inner recesses of privileges, the holy of holies,the innermost sanctuary of the legal practice.

I do not know why and how this esteemed profession, came about adopting and depicting the highest professional honour with the fabric known as "Silk".

The unlearned me, had wondered why not cotton? Sanyan? Alaari Baba Aso?Ofi? Etu? Ishiagwu? Apa? Or even Linen?

You know this profession and their preference to want to be seen and taken differently, if not more superior to everyone else,and not even to Medical Practitioners would they allow to share that level of reverence with them.

First, its being learned, they would tell you that you can be "educated but not learned" and now the "silk".

Well they are the learned men after all!

So My fascination and inquisitiveness brought me to the point where I wanted to unravel this mystery so many years ago, some fifteen years ago, I took on the voyage to put together a compendium book titled "The Silkmen"

So I started by approaching Uncle Wole Olanipekun SAN, for reference to the then President of the Nigeria Bar Association [NBA] i think Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, now Governor of Ondo State, and the Oldest SAN at the time Baba Bankole Oki SAN.

The project was well received by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN and others

However that voyage of mine got aborted somewhat the year that some kind of crisis broke about the nominations for this highest position.

There was uproar about some nominees for this exalted recognition who nominations were mirred in controversy as exclusively the prerogative of the legal practitioners and privileges committee.

The issues then were around some discontent about the "SAN worthiness" of some people for the highest position with rife allegations, Some alleged overt and covert influences, that ensured that some people made the esteemed nominations while others perceived to be more deserving by both the practitioners and members of the public were denied.

Some personalities also not deemed fit for the silk either for the views they held against government or being punished for different reasons or denied simply because they were not favoured of lacking in contact and reach.

Some people even alleged that untoward influences in many ways were being exerted on the committee which almost led to the agitation for ethnic balancing in the nominations, allegations that people of a particular nationality were always more on the list than others, with this came bloated numbers being nominated every year, and people began to see it more like a social title.

And then came the debate as to wether to admit persons in the academia and all that, for a while the highest professional recognition for the learned profession was on trial or so it would seem.

That crisis lingered for sometime and I had to rest the BOOK expedition painfully but that did not stop my fascination for the SILK and the attainment of the SILK by deserving persons, So every year, I am always keen on those who made it.

It is gratifying to observe today that the learned profession had overcome all that drama of those years, leading to the restoration of the public regard and professional respect, class, rating, status and profile of this professional recognition to its pristine place as intended and the status is back. MAYBE I WILL WAKE UP THE PROJECT.. hmmm...

When honour is well deserved and earned, even your enemies will agree.. 👏

So when the list of final nominees was announced this year, I quickly scanned through to see those who made it and a name popped up in my face, it was the name of my brother and friend, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the Akure, Ondo State born legal practitioner.

I was excited and greatly delighted because I believe Kayode had qualified and merited this a long time ago.

This professional recognition had been Long in coming indeed for this very cerebral, Affable, Amiable, Charismatic, Endearingly pleasant young man of variegated hue and nobility.

This is a proven Quintessential, Debonair, Urbane and Humane City and People's Lawyer .

I had been friends with Kayode Ajulo for over two decades, our paths crossed in our early days as young concerned Nigerians with eyes and heart for the struggle for a better society. We were bonded by our agitated minds.

This was what we espoused and championed via our incisive comments and commentaries in our private and public discourse, in our writings in Newspapers and appearances on National Television stations at several times.

Kayode as a young deeply intelligent personality and legal practitioner,always impeccably dressed with his ubiquitous bow tie to match would make and marshal his viewpoints clearly from a heart that feels the pains of the weak and infirm, desirous of a great nation that we believe is realisable.

Kayode Ajulo believes that one of the most enduring and sustaining pillars of good society is the law and he had over the years deployed this in the pursuit of social justice and as a crusader of sort for an egalitarian society. Many cases of the poor, weak, deprived and denied, he handled pro bono!

After becoming learned, he had gone ahead to become more educated and today he has a place amidst the additionally esteemed class of Senior Advocates of Nigeria with a P.hd, like Dr Olumide Ayeni, Koyinsola Ajayi etc so from Simply Kayode Ajulo ESQ, he is now Dr. Kayode Ajulo SAN!

As i approached the Abuja Continental Hotel post -investiture reception venue, and I beheld the long snarling traffic human and vehicular, many people parking their cars on side walks not able to gain access into the hotel, I said it has to be the vintage Kayode to pull this huge crowd.

I met a friend and brother at the gate, Honourable Supo, who said there must be other newly invested SANs also hosting guests there, i told him, i am sure all these people turned up for Kayode.

Little wonder when Dr Bode Olajumoke , the chairman of the event opened his remarks with the apologies for using that venue that is nowjam packed,saying that this reception should have been at the stadium.

Whoever knows the Ladi Kwali Hall would appreciate the size,and it was filled to capacity with men and women from all walks of life and across a broad Spectrum of the Nigerian landscape! All for this young man, truly a silk of different hue !

Kayode Ajulo's persona made the venue look like a small room!

No better attestation and affirmation of the consensus that this new SAN is deserving of this esteemed honour than the attendance and the infectious conviviality that pervaded the venue.

This speaks of and to the persona and personality of Dr Kayode Ajulo, a man of different parts to so many people, open minded, liberal progressive.

The common denominator is that he is adored by the young and loved by the old, that is why he is like a son to Baba Edwin Clark till this day, very highly regarded by his Seniors and a pride to his peers and colleagues.

Dr Ajulo has high impressionable personality, from his intellect, and intellectual repository to his capacity to identify with everyone in their situations and positions, you can not forget Kayode Ajulo in a hurry after an encounter with him.

I recall three instances in our relationship that dates back to years, first when my political movement came under assault, and my travails started with incidentally another but this time a different Kayode, he met with me to discuss the matter ostensibly on the strength of his knowledge of my near servitude defined loyalty to Governor Kayode Fayemi.

He said he found the development greatly disturbing and was deeply concerned about how our relationship had gone sour, I explained my side in a very long discussion, and he kept saying " ha.. ko ye ki Egbon se beyen"i.e "our senior brother should not have done that" he promised to intervene and I thanked him for his concerns but told him not to bother as it would come to nought anyway, just like many people who had done so previously. That's Dr Kayode Ajulo for you, a lover of peace situated in the bowels of justice and fairness.

The second instance, was when I started the continental NGO, oneunitedAfrica, while we were trying to nominate people on to the board, Bro Femi, Senator Femi Ojudu nominated Dr Kayode Ajulo, he asked me if I knew him , and I said yes, very well too, and that I had no objection. So he asked me to see Dr.Ajulo.

When I got to his Maitama law office, Dr. Ajulo was enthusiastic about the NGO, and our Pan Africanism Rennaisance thrust, triggered by the Xenophobic attacks of the year 2020 in South Africa.

Within minutes of our discussions, sharing his deep insights about the conundrum, he quickly appointed a junior in his Chambers to be the desk officer, mandated her to proceed with the registration of the NGO and offered to pay for the registration and associated costs.

Another moment was when I needed to get an approval for a project that one man sat on, at BPP, under President Jonathan, I discussed with him, Kayode took me to General Arogbofa, the then Chief of Staff to the President to intervene.

This is the vintage Kayode Ajulo, always willing to assist, giving of himself and putting his means at the disposal of anyone, for the well being of others and in pursuit of common goals and noble causes.

This explains the teeming admirers who showed up for him on this great day of acknowledgement of a life devoid of bile and guile but of extension of warmth to all accentuated by professional trackrecord of distinction .

Dr. Kayode Ajulo is one man with rare gift of mediation, such that if you are in the wrong, he will tell you in such a way that you will admit your errors gleefully ,I have seen him intervene in matters and both parties feeling so satisfied with his mediatory roles

Dr Ajulo is a die hard home boy, one of his greatest passions is the love for his people, town and State, he once aspired to represent them at the Senate, a very people centric person, I was his guest at one of the events when he was recognised in Akure, under the late Deji,Oba Adebiyi Adesida, the love of his people for him was so gripping and palpable.

This must have informed the comment of the legendary ace broadcaster Mr Cyril Stober of Nigeria Television Authority who was the compere of the event, that with the crowd of quality audience and people from all walks of life in attendance, the event was not a case of who was there, it was a case of who was not there at the reception.

The following personalities came in, to honour this man of honour on this day when he got admitted into the sanctum reserved for distinguished and esteemed legal luminaries in Nigeria, a place he is fit to be.

Surely it will take a man like Dr. Kayode Ajulo to put this array and impressive 👏 rainbow assemblage together under one roof.

We had Deputy Governor of Ondo State, H.E Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the very personable and performing Honourable Minister of Interior, Rt. No fewer than 100 pro-democracy groups have welcomed the Appeal Court ruling that affirmed Siminalayi Fubara as the Governor of Rivers State.

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Barrister Francis Nwogu, the coalition said the verdict proved that Fubara was indeed the popular choice of the electorates, hence will defend the mandate given to him by his people.

The Court, in a unanimous decision, affirmed the judgment of the election tribunal, dismissing four separate appeals filed by Tonye Cole of All Progressives Congress (APC), Beatrice Itubo of the Labour Party (LP), Innocent Ekwu of the Allied People’s Movement (APM), and Lulu Briggs Dumo of the Accord Party.

The APC candidate wanted the court to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare him the winner of the March governorship election in Rivers.

The Rivers State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had in October dismissed the petition of Cole challenging the election of Fubara as the governor of the state.

In reaction, Nwogu said the judgement has again legitimised Fubara's administration and set the tone for an economic boom in Rivers.

He noted that the victory is a testament to the governor's dedication, vision, and unwavering commitment to the people of Rivers State.

The statement said: “This outcome has laid credence to the Rivers State Elections Petition Tribunal which was also in Fubara's favor. We appreciate the due diligence done by the judiciary in arriving at this conclusion. 

“This affirmation of the victory is a pointer that the judicial system in our country has evolved, and can be trusted and relied upon. Not only that, the judicial process was thorough and deep, as all the issues were delved into without leaving any stone unturned.

"The justices stood against every attempt to induce them. Some powerful forces even resorted to blackmail, intimidation, and campaign of calumny but that too didn't work because today the judiciary has proven to be the last hope of the common man.

"We want to use this medium to charge Governor Fubara to sustain his early momentum. We understand that there are obstacles on the way. However, we are confident that he will surmount them all".

In a democratic society, the rule of law is the bedrock upon which the system thrives. It ensures fairness, justice, and equal opportunity for all citizens. However, recent events surrounding the judgments between Yusuf Gagdi and Caleb Mutfwang have raised concerns about the integrity of our democracy.

Yusuf Gagdi, a member of APC political party, has been unfairly targeted by the PDP. This vendetta seems to stem from their own mistakes and mishandling of electoral matters during the 2023 elections. By shifting the blame onto Gagdi, the PDP aims to divert attention from their own errors and create a scapegoat for their failures. It is crucial to recognize the politics at play and the ulterior motives behind their actions.

Yusuf Gagdi has found himself at the center of a politically charged campaign against him, orchestrated by the PDP. The PDP, reeling from its defeat in the 2023 elections, has sought to deflect attention from its own shortcomings by scapegoating Gagdi. This concerted effort to tarnish Gagdi’s reputation and shift blame for the PDP’s failures is a clear indication of their political maneuvering.

The core loop that the PDP hope to harness into pulling Gagdi down was a harmless boastful statement which was misinterpreted in another narrative, which is expected to aid their weaponry as a fireback in undoing their own personal errors.

The dismissal of Caleb Mutfwang was a result of a thorough examination of the facts and adherence to established legal procedures.

Recently, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja sacked the governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang.

It can be recalled that Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party had 525,299 votes while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Goshwe, polled 481,370 votes in the March 18 governorship election in the state.

Goshwe challenged the victory of Mutfwang at the tribunal claiming that the governor was not validly nominated and sponsored by his party. He also said there was non-compliance with the Electoral Act in the election.

A three-member panel of the tribunal headed by Justice R. Irele-Ifijeh, in a unanimous decision, dismissed the petition for lacking in merit, but after appealing the tribunal judgement, its judgment on Sunday, the three-member panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu, citing Section 177 of the Constitution, held that the governor was not validly sponsored by the PDP for the election.

She held that the party violated a court order directing it to conduct a valid congress in the 17 local government areas of that state. She said there was no evidence that the PDP complied with a subsisting High Court order which had directed it to conduct a valid party congress prior to its sponsorship of the governorship and other candidates. The court also noted that under Section 134 of the Electoral Act, it is the sole right of a political party to sponsor its candidate having met the requirements to do so.

The further nullification of the election of PDP members in the house of representatives by the court over invalid nomination has proven a convincing angle of the argument that the PDP travails in Plateau are self-inflicted, as the party failed to adhere to due process in conducting its primary election, which was the basis of the court’s verdicts.

One could finally see that the sacking of Caleb Mutfwang, a member of the PDP, was based on the correct application of the law. It is essential to emphasize that justice should be blind to party affiliations and focused solely on upholding the principles of fairness and justice. The court’s decision to dismiss Mutfwang was not driven by political bias but rather by a thorough examination of the facts and adherence to legal procedures. It is worthy of note that the President of the Court of Appeal is not a member of the panel handling the appeals from Plateau State and there is nowhere it can be imagined that she lobbied their justices to give the sound verdicts that have been given on the appeals before them.

The statement Gagdi is being crucified for is just what any smart politician that comes from a party that has properly tied every loose end would say just to destabilize every opposition. Gagdi was sure of no shortcomings in virtually all his party’s candidates that made it through the election. He was so confident that APC candidates have all it takes to prove their legitimacy in any court of law irrespective of how many times they are challenged. This was what birthed the utterance of, “We have gone to Appeal Court and the final destination is the Supreme Court and we will meet there. That is where we will know whom they know and they will know whom we know”.

Everyone definitely knows that PDP wouldn’t have baited an eyelid on such statement if their candidates had won their appeals, but they failed woefully in their assignment, and now looking for an excuse to redeem their pathetic failure.

Allegations were made against the Governor of Plateau State, suggesting that he attempted to influence the outcome of the court proceedings in his favor. This kind of interference undermines the independence of the judiciary and erodes the trust citizens have in the democratic process. If proven true, such actions should be condemned, and those responsible should be held accountable for their attempts to obstruct justice.

The courts have upheld the principles of fairness and justice, demonstrating that political affiliations should not influence the outcome of legal proceedings.

This serves as a reminder that our democracy should not be compromised by personal interests or political maneuvering.

The Gagdi-Mutfwang case serves as a wake-up call for the preservation of our democracy. It highlights the importance of a fair and impartial judiciary, free from external influences. We must remain vigilant in protecting the integrity of our legal system and ensuring that justice prevails over political expediency. By doing so, we safeguard the principles upon which our democracy was built.

In conclusion, the Mutfwang-PDP court judgements have revealed a complex web of political motivations and potential attempts to derail justice. Upholding the correct application of the law and preserving the integrity of our democracy should be paramount.

This further lays credence to the need to eradicate godfatherism in our political space. The need to field the rightful candidate to represent a political party, and not an unprepared loyalist that won’t have a solid defense when the storm comes raging.

Let us remain steadfast in our commitment to fairness, justice, and the principles that underpin our democratic society. Only then can we ensure a thriving democracy that benefits all citizens.

The Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives is an audacious man. Those who know him would attest to his brilliance and clarity of thought. This much he has exhibited since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He has set an audacious agenda that, if fully implemented, Nigerians would see a robust contribution of the House of Representatives to nation-building. His style could be likened to the People’s Assembly for all, regardless. I admire his courage and commitment to lead solely in the national interest. He is an asset to the country, and we are glad that the mantle of leadership fell on his shoulders because he won't disappoint.

As a member of the House of Representatives, I have been impressed by many things. However, his 8-point agenda of strengthening good governance, improving national security, law reform, economic growth and development, social sector reform and development, inclusion, an open parliament, influencing and directing Nigeria's foreign policy, climate change, and environmental sustainability is top-notch.

Some have said it is more grandstanding, which I am afraid I have to disagree with. The Honourable Speaker may be a man of few words, but he is capable. As an intellectual, it was well thought out to reflect the renewed hope agenda of the present administration.

Take it or leave it; something good is cooking in the House of Representatives, and with time, its manifestation will be felt in critical sectors of the economy. A cursory look at the recently unveiled 8-point agenda indeed gives hope. It emphasizes the burning desire to address the country's myriad of challenges.

Some may ask what force is driving him. The answer is plausible—the desire to change the narrative in a transparent and accountable manner. The Honourable Speaker has started on the right footing, and it is gratifying that members of the House of Representatives have caught the bug. The quality of debates and teamwork exhibited by House of Representatives members indicates this reality.

For the Honourable Speaker, it is about the people, so that the 10th Assembly could be christened as the People’s Assembly. The interest of the generality of Nigerians comes first and above every other interest. This is the way to go, and other arms of government are expected to key into this reawakening.

In the words of the Honourable Speaker, "The 8-point agenda is a demonstration of our commitment to deploying every legislative instrument available to us towards meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people we serve." If this does not melt your heart, what else could? This is a first, and it must be commended. The exciting part of it all is that he spoke to the minds of the generality of the members of the House of Representatives.

I am glad I am a member of the House of Representatives, and I owe Nigerians that commitment to put the country's interests first. I can't act otherwise; I would be a lone ranger and have myself to blame at the end of the day.

Going back to the 8-point agenda, it was well encapsulated. It touched all aspects of our national life. It reminds me of the policies and plans of notable leaders of the country in times past, whose impact is still felt to date and serves as reference points in the definition of government for the people.

"We are dedicated to fostering an environment that promotes sustainable economic growth and development. We shall use every legislative tool to create jobs for our teeming youths, address the challenge posed by poverty, improve infrastructure, ensure top-quality and affordable health care, and provide security for all Nigerians."

The Honourable Speaker deserves a round of applause. By this action, he has written his name in the sands of time as that passionate Nigerian who utilized his office for the good of the common man and woman. The revered Ahmadu Bello, Obafemi Awolowo, and Nnamdi Azikiwe were proponents of this school of thought. They wrote their names in the sands of time.

Posterity would be kind to Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the 15th Speaker of the House of Representatives in Nigeria. I can't feign ignorance of the enormity of the task ahead, the audacious move to identify these critical areas, and the pledge to make a meaningful impact for the benefit of the people.

Nigerians are entitled to enjoy the benefits of democracy. It is an undeniable right that must be fulfilled by those saddled with positions of authority. The Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, has set the ball rolling, and it behoves those saddled with positions of authority to see it as a challenge.

The challenge of purposeful leadership recognises that today's fast-changing, complex, and unpredictable environment necessitates a different kind of leadership. The leadership puts the people first. A leader's key role is to create energy and momentum, mainly when dire circumstances occur. It's to help others see possibilities and potential, creating energy, inspiration, and hope.

The House of Representatives, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, is poised to create the enabling environment and laws required to deliver the benefits of democracy to the people. All members of the House of Representatives have keyed into this vision. The months and years ahead would be promising. Nigerians would indeed be proud of Nigeria.

The commitment from the House of Representatives, under the leadership of Rt. Hon Tajudeen Abass, is unflinching. The Speaker is burning alive with a passion to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria's sustainable growth and development quest.

This House of Representatives is for the people. The people come first; this much the Honourable Speaker has exemplified since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly. *Independent Democratic Monitors Hails Appeal Court Ruling Affirming Gov Alia's Victory*

The Independent Democratic Monitors (IDM) has welcomed the Appeal Court ruling affirming Hyacinth Alia's victory as the elected governor of Benue State.

In a statement signed by Dr. James Bawa, its Executive Secretary, the group said the outcome has laid credence to the governorship tribunal which was also in the favour of Governor Alia and his deputy, Dr Sam Ode.

Recall that the appellate court earlier today dismissed an appeal brought before it by the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Titus Uba challenging the election of Alia.

In a unanimous judgment, the court resolved all three issues formulated for determination against Uba and PDP for various reasons.

Bawa says the ruling is a testament to the confidence that the Benue people have in Governor Alia and must be respected by all and sundry.

Over 500 lawyers this morning stormed the court of appeal in Abuja to demand an urgent end to the campaign of calumny against the justices of the court by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.


The lawyers unanimously said it is an evil act to continously denigrate the defenceless justices. 


Led by the lawyer of Conscience,  its Convener,  Sylvanus Okpe said the actions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are, at best, an assault on the judiciary due to the avalanche of sponsored diatribes against the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Plateau State. 


He said as a body of lawyers dedicated to the defense of the rule of law and democracy in Nigeria, it wish to draw His Lordship's attention to the implication of the actions of the PDP on the reputation and integrity of the Court of Appeal. 


"While it is succinct to state that the Justices of the Court of Appeal delivered a sound judgment in line with the provisions of the law, the diatribe perpetuated by the PDP  smacks of mockery and an attempt to ridicule the judiciary. 


"It must be stated that the PDP acted in breach of a subsisting court order in a suit marked PLD/J/304/2021, which directed it to conduct a fresh Congress involving all the 17 Local Government Areas in Plateau State. 


"The implication of a breach of a subsisting court order amounts to a lack of party structure, which is a breach of Section 84 (13) of the Electoral Act as amended, “where a political party fails to comply with the provisions of this Act in the conduct of its primaries, its candidate for election shall not be included in the election for the particular position in issue.” 


"As His Lordship may be aware, the violation implies that the PDP candidates in the National Assembly elections could be regarded as null and void for lacking party structure" he said


The Supreme Court, in its ruling in May 2019, nullified the elections of all the candidates of the All Progressives Congress in Zamfara State in the 2019 general elections for failing to conduct primaries. This conformed to the provisions of the law that held that political parties must conduct ward congresses. As in the case of Zamfara state, the All Progressive Congress didn't have a structure, so the nominations of candidates for elections were null and void. 


Okpe said It has become a stock in trade of the PDP to sacrifice facts on the altar of selfishness in an insatiable quest to build something on nothing, as in the case of Plateau State. This much has been evident in the serial campaign of calumny launched by the PDP against the rulings of the Court of Appeal. 


"We observe that the ultimate aim is to cause disrepute to the Justices of the Court of Appeal and discredit the judiciary's impartiality in Nigeria. This action is an affront and an assault that must be rebuffed. 


"His Lordship may wish to be informed that the reputation and integrity of the appellate court is at stake. The issues canvassed by the PDP lack merit and substance, and as such, the judiciary must not succumb to blackmail to ensure that Justice is served. 


"We'd like to call on His Lordship to stand firm in defence of the sanctity of the appellate court in the dispensation of Justice. The impartiality of the judiciary in Nigeria is never in doubt. An independent, strong, respected, and respectable judiciary is indispensable for the impartial administration of Justice in a democratic State. 


"Lessons must be learned on the implications of flouting court orders. Contempt of court is an affront to the authority and dignity of the court. A court order must be obeyed until it is set aside on appeal. There is no evidence that the subsisting court order in the conduct of fresh ward congress for the PDP in Plateau state was appealed. 


"His Lordship may wish to grant our prayers that the Court of Appeal rejects the position of the PDP in Plateau state with regards to the outcome of the judgement of the Court of Appeal sacking PDP members of the National Assembly for lack of party structure that rendered their eligibility to stand for election null and void" he said

Judiciary: Coalition hails judgements in Plateau, warns PDP, others against blackmail


In what appears as the biggest solidarity match in the city of Abuja; a Coalition of Civil Society Groups, has thrown its weight behind the judiciary in Nigeria, saying it has lived up to its expectations by Nigerians.

Addressing newsmen in Abuja during a solidarity rally in support of the judiciary, the Coalition, made up of Northern Christian Civil Rights Movement; the African Patriots; the Guardians of Democracy and others with membership over 10,000; specifically commended the judiciary for the recent judgements in various election petitions Plateau.

The Coalition also sounded note of warnings to the ruling People's Democratic Party (PDP) and others, against what it described as "blackmail" of the Court of Appeal.

The convener of Guardians of Democracy, Mr. Adamu Kabir, in his speech, explained that the Coalition expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to the esteemed Justices of the Appeal Court; and honored their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the principles of justice, equity, fairness, and democracy in the nation.

"Today, we stand united to celebrate the triumph of the judiciary over the nefarious attempts by political parties to manipulate and undermine the rule of law.

"However, we, the Guardians of Democracy, stand firm in our belief in the judiciary's ability to uphold the rule of law and deliver justice for all Nigerians", he said.

He further stated that in recent months, his group witnessed a disturbing trend of attempts to undermine the judiciary.

These attempts according to him, came from various quarters, including politicians, lawyers, and even members of the public, adding that, these individuals have sought to influence the judiciary's decisions "through intimidation, bribery, and even threats of violence".

Other members of the coalition expressed their firm believe in the principles of equity, fairness, and justice, adding that it is the duty of the judiciary to uphold these principles without compromise.

Meanwhile, Convener, Northern Christian Civil Rights Movement, Mr. Tobias Ogbe, in his speech, emphatically cautioned the PDP in Plateau State to desist from the unholy enterprise in the interest of peace and tranquility.

"It must be stated that the resort to cheap blackmail and propaganda serves no good and does not augur well for preserving democracy in Nigeria. Ironically, this has been one of the potent weapons of destabilization that political parties and actors employ to destabilize the system when election results do not go their way." Ogbe said.

He therefore stated that the case of Plateau presents a vivid example of how politicians selfishly heat the polity and end up causing a conflict of unimaginable proportions, adding that the enterprise must stop, and those responsible must desist from such ignoble endeavors.

There are indications that following the peaceful gestures and reconciliation between Adams Oshiomhole and Godwin Obaseki of Edo state, Nigerians and indeed the people of Edo state are in for better days ahead 2024 elections.

Information reaching us indicates that some elder statesmen have volunteered to broker peace between the governor and his former aides and top chieftains of the APC in Edo state. We learnt that recent altercation between the governor and his former chief of staff has not gone down well with certain mutual friends of the duo hence the call for a truce and reconciliation similar to that of Obaseki and Oshiomhole.

To this extent, top members of APC may have been shortlisted for this reconciliation moves, aside Akerele, former Commissioners who either resigned or were sacked, former Deputy governor Pius Odubu, Hon Samson Osagie, Barr Henry Idahagbon, former Speaker Hon Frank Okiye, Mrs Aisosa Amadasun, Dr (Mrs) Omorede Osifo and few others were named.

The governor is said to be unhappy with the betrayal he has received from the legacy PDP members and the resistance he has received from selling his anointed candidate, hence has decided to reconcile with his old allies in both APC and PDP in order to start the healing process of the state ahead of his last year in office.

Efforts to confirm this story from media adviser, Crusoe Osagie proved futile as he didn't pick his calls from our correspondent.

However, an ex commissioner in the state, speaking to us from London refused to comment as she has not been approached by any of the committee members, she insisted she has nothing personal against Godwin Obaseki.

While the Dan Orbih group have vowed not to allow the governor produce a successor, former Chief of staff Taiwo Akerele had accused the government of non performance.

Its yet to be seen how the elders comprising of religious leaders, traditional rulers, a former governor of the state and retired Justice of the Supreme Court intend to achieve their aims as most of the people listed are not resident in the state and drawn from different political parties.

You will recall that Senator Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state have openly confessed that they are friends and have nothing against each other.


Hence it's not surprising that these elder statesmen have decided to extend this reconciliation moves to other political players who have strained relationship with the Governor.


It's yet to be seen how this gesture will impact the processes leading to the 2024 elections in the state.

In a significant move towards restoring political tranquillity in Ondo State, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, OON, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Egalitarian Mission for Africa (EMA), has applauded the wisdom demonstrated by Ondo State elders.

Ajulo said the State has, again, demonstrated its resourcefulness in the area of politics, governance and human development. He said "Ondo elders have demonstrated the uniqueness of the Omoluabis we are known for and it is commendable"

The state has been grappling with a political crisis, exacerbated by the absence of Governor Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu and the contentious impeachment process of Deputy Governor Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

At a pivotal meeting hosted at the residence of Afenifere leader Pa Reuben Fasoranti on Monday, Ondo State Elders and Leaders Forum converged on the residence of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti to discuss the peace and development of the State amidst current political turbulence.

Egalitarian Mission for Africa, a not-for-profit international Organisation, which Ajulo is the Chairman, amid the continued unrest, had on 16th October in a widely publicised press statement urged the State elders to intervene in the crisis which has generated unwarranted enmity among political players and their followers in the State and indirectly disrupted smooth governance. He made phone contact with some of the elders concerning the matter.

In the statement, Ajulo speaking for the Organisation expressed optimism in Ondo State's ability to address its challenges independently without external intervention.

He eulogised the elders for heeding the call and rising to help Ondo State in navigating its political challenges, saying "nothing is more crucial than such a meeting at this time"

The lawyer also expressed gratitude to the Leaders and Elders of Ondo State, using Pa Reuben Fasoranti and Bashoun Seinde Arogbofa as points of contact. He appreciated the royal fathers and religious leaders present at the meeting for heeding the call for peace.

"Again, I want to call on other Ondo State leaders absent from the meeting to unite for the benefit of the State and its people; Chief Olu Falae, General Bajowa, Prince Adetokubo Kayode SAN, former Governor Olusegun Mimiko, former Deputy Governors, former Speakers of the House of Assembly as well as Chief Judge and head of the State judiciary.

Also, I call on Senators representing Ondo State at the National Assembly, using Senator Niyi Adegbomire, SAN as a point of contact, Ondo State Representatives members, other traditional rulers using the Deji of Akure, Oba Ogunlade Aladetoyinbo as contact, and religious heads with the Archbishop of Ondo Diocese of Anglican Communion, Bishop Simeon Borokini and Chief Imam of Akure, Alhaji Abdulmalik Yayi-Akorede as contacts respectively to join this noble cause." He said.

Ajulo expressed that the assignment is a joint effort, saying "the collective efforts of everyone are important in fostering a harmonious and progressive Ondo State."

Apoi Community Leaders Raise Alarm Over Soldiers Hijack of Election Results In Southern Ijaw

Community leaders in Apoi Community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, have expressed deep concern and alarm over the reported invasion of Apoi Community by soldiers in a military gunboat with registration number NA6DA3. The incursion is alleged to be an attempt to confiscate election results from yesterday's governorship election, specifically those belonging to Apoi Ward 15 in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses and community members report that the soldiers arrived in the community, creating a tense atmosphere and causing anxiety among residents. The soldiers are said to have demanded access to election materials and results, raising suspicions about the intention behind this intrusion.

*PDP Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plot to Compromise INEC Officials in Brass LGA, Bayelsa State Governorship Election*

The Peoples Democratic Party Vanguard has raised alarm over suspected plot to manipulate the outcome of the Bayelsa State Governorship Election by the APC and some officials of INEC in the Brass Local Government Area of the state.

A statement by the Publicity Secretary, of the group, Prince Mike Ebele alleged that there is a fresh plots by the APC and certain
officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to compromise the outcome of the Guber election in Brass Local GovernmentArea, where the PDP, is in an early lead.

He said the group has been made aware of fresh plots by the defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) and certain compromised officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Brass, to manipulate the outcome of the Governorship election in the State.

"It has come to our knowledge that the APC and its candidate, having realized that they cannot defeat Governor Duoye Diri, given his popularity and determination of the people, are now putting pressure on INEC to alter already collated and declared results in other Polling Units where no cases of malpractice or disruption of election took place.

This is part of Sylva’s plot to facilitate the manipulation and/or alteration of the already declared results in favour of the APC against the expressed Will of the people.

"We hereby in very strong terms caution INEC and the APC not to, under any circumstance or guise whatsoever, tamper with the results already announced and declared at the Polling Units where election has been concluded and Returns made by the Returning Officers without any reported case of disruption or cancellation, as this will be vehemently resisted by our people."

The people of Brass already know the figures from the Polling Units as announced by INEC. Any attempt by the APC and INEC officials to tamper with the results already declared is a clear recipe for crisis.

In a disturbing turn of events, peaceful women protesters in Nembe town were reportedly subjected to tear gas by the police during their demonstration earlier today, accusing the Bayelsa Police Commissioner of bias ahead of the upcoming Saturday governorship election in the state. Election monitors in the state, have strongly condemned the use of force against the women, emphasizing the need for a peaceful electoral process.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the women, who had gathered to voice their concerns over alleged bias by the Bayelsa Police Commissioner, were met with tear gas and forceful dispersal by the police. The protesters, many of whom were carrying placards and chanting slogans, had accused the commissioner of favoritism and called for a fair and transparent electoral process.

The Bayelsa Police Commissioner has come under criticism from various quarters for his handling of security matters in the run-up to the election. The women protesters alleged that the commissioner's actions were politically motivated and aimed at influencing the outcome of the governorship election in favor of the candidate of the All Progress Congress in the election.

Political Parties Reject Appeal Court Judgement On Plateau Reps, Senate Elections

Political parties under the aegis of the Conference of Allied Political Parties (CAPP) has criticized the Appeal Court judgement in the Plateau State National Assembly a rape of democracy. A statement signed by Dr Amos Sani, its director of publicity, described what happened in Plateau state as insensitive and a gross abuse of the judicial process.

"The decision to declare the Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, winner of the Plateau South Senatorial election is a travesty of justice. For the Appeal court to declare Simon Lalong winner because the PDP didn't have a structure is insane and rape of democracy."

"On what basis would the APC canvass that the PDP as a party didn't have a structure? What is the business of the APC with the structure of another party? It indicates that the justices of the Appeal Court delivered a kangaroo judgment."

He further stated that the actions of the Appeal Court tend to set a dangerous precedence in the country.

" The judiciary is now for sale to the highest bidder. It has succeeded in turning the law on its head. This is a worrisome enterprise that should be discontinued for its potency to truncate our nascent democracy."

" This is a clear case of rape of our democracy, and any well-meaning Nigerian must reject it in its ramification. There is no sense in the judgment. It read like a prepared speech which smacks of pecuniary gains."

The group further alleged that the justices of the Appeal Court that entertained the matter acted like they had been induced monetarily to give a damning verdict.

"The Appeal Court judgment smacks of a rehashed endeavor unknown to law. It is worrisome that the justices of the Appeal Court would elect to throw caution in the wind."

The Appeal Court in Abuja recently upheld the tribunal's judgment, which declared the Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong, winner of the Plateau South Senatorial election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had declared Napoleon Bali of the Peoples Democratic Party winner with 148,844 votes, while Lalong scored 91 674 to come second in the February 25 elections.

The Election Petition Tribunal nullified Bali’s election on the grounds that the PDP did not have a proper party structure and, therefore, could not file candidates for the elections.

In a unanimous judgment read by Justice Muhammad Tukur, the tribunal said the PDP, having no structure, lacked the right to take part in the election.
The three-person panel of the Appeal Court, led by Justice Elfrieda Williams-Dawodu, held that the matter was both a pre and post-election matter, adding that the tribunal was correct to have looked at the issue.

In a related development, the Plateau South People Assemblies (PSPA), an umbrella body of six LGAs that makes up the Plateau South Senatorial district, has condemned the ongoing waves of judicial pronouncements upturning the elections of elected representatives of the people of Plateau state at the state and National Assembly.

“We are shocked by the pattern of the judgments, nullifying elections of some of our representatives, under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over what is termed as improper nomination and sponsorship of candidates by the PDP.”

"We must further state that these developments are a great threat to democracy in Nigeria today."
