Politics / Jonathan National Hero If... – Audu Ogbe by ahmed486: 2:18pm On Oct 26, 2014
A former National Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Audu Ogbe has vowed to confer the title of a ‘national hero’ on President Goodluck Jonathan if he succeeds in bringing back the abducted Chibok girls.

His promise is coming barely 72 hours after a self-acclaimed secretary General of the insurgents, Mallam Danladi Ahmadu announced that the violent sect had agreed to free the girls from their den six month after.

In a release in Abuja on Friday, the former chairman of the ruling PDP, who is now a chieftain of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, said that without the BBOG, Nigeria would have portrayed herself to the world as a strange society that cared for nothing about human -life, especially those of the children.

He took a swipe on the federal government for inviting the Chibok parents to Abuja “for condolences”, regretting that while the rest of the world had continued to express shock over the unfortunate incident, Nigeria had resorted to playing politics with the matter.

Politics / REVEALED: Nigeria’s Secret Deal With Boko Haram by ahmed486: 9:52pm On Oct 25, 2014
Details of Nigeria’s peace deal with Boko Haram were revealed on Friday by the government of Chad which also sensationally disclosed that the sect’s leader, Abubakar Shekau, wrote it confirming his emissaries to the recent peace meeting held in Chad.

Moussa Mahamat Dago, the number two official in Chad’s foreign ministry confirmed all these to the media on Friday. The official stressed that Chad believed Nigeria’s secret deal with Boko Haram Islamists to free more than 200 kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls would go ahead despite the breakdown of a truce and revealed that the key to the agreement was a prisoner swap.

The accord mediated by Chad for the release of the girls seized from Chibok in Borno State in April has been called into question since it was announced by the Nigerian military last week. A ceasefire supposed to be part of the agreement has been broken, and a further 25 girls were abducted this week.

Dago, according to Reuters, said it appeared some Boko Haram factions were refusing to abide by the deal, brokered by the Chadian foreign minister with two representatives of the Islamist group and two Nigerian negotiators at meetings in Chad on September 14 and 30.

“Quite possibly those who are fighting are dissidents that even they (Boko Haram) aren’t able to control. So far, there is no reason for others to doubt this agreement,” Dago told Reuters late on Thursday in the Chadian capital, N’Djamena.

“What I can say is that those that negotiated with the Nigerian government did so in good faith ... We are waiting for the next phase which is the release of the girls,” he added.

I started with shit business, the kind that late Otunba Gadaffi was doing. I did it before. I was servicing NNPC headquarters at Falomo and their housing estate in Satellite. From that, I went into rentals and now I have other businesses. If you make a man that has not managed N1million to start controlling a ministry with billions of naira in allocation, what you get is profligacy and misjudgement. Judging from my antecedents, I know that I am perfectly fit to govern Lagos State.

Foreign Affairs / Texas Officials Clear 43 People After Ebola Monitoring by ahmed486: 8:23am On Oct 21, 2014
Breathing a sigh of relief, Texas officials said Monday that 43 people who had contact with a man who died of Ebola, Thomas Eric Duncan, were cleared of twice-daily monitoring, and they urged residents to accept those people back into the community.
At a news conference, Judge Clay Jenkins, Dallas County’s top elected official, said that the 43 were part of an initial 48 people who were being monitored because they had contact with Mr. Duncan before he was admitted to the hospital on Sept. 28. The group included Mr. Duncan’s fiancée, Louise Troh, who nursed him in their cramped apartment, along with her 13-year-old son, Timothy, and the two young men who shared the apartment with her and Mr. Duncan.

The rest of the initial group, Mr. Jenkins said, would be taken off the monitoring list later Monday or soon after.

About 120 more people continue to be monitored for symptoms.

“Epidemiologists have worked around the clock to call and visit people who may have had any exposure, to make sure they were asymptotic and doing well,” Dr. David Lakey, commissioner of the Texas Department of State Health Services, said in a statement. “I’m happy we can tell people they are free and clear of monitoring. It provides a measure of relief and reassurance.”
