Sports / VAR: Balancing The Game Of Football by Ahmedsuleiman(m): 12:17am On Feb 22, 2019
Video Assistant Referee (VAR) is a technology that that helps to bring fairness and truth to bear. In whatever way you may think of it, and how it has greatly influence football decision so far and it is becoming a force to be reckoned with. Many players, coaches, officials, administrators inter alia have given their divergent opinions as regards VAR.

Before now, there were only need for linesmen (both on the other side of the pitch), and the fourth official, whom the central referee seek his opinion on issues during the game. FIFA President Gianni Infantino on official approval of the system said that; “This topic was discussed and debated for decades. VAR is good for football and good for refereeing, it brings more fairness in the game and, for these reasons, we have decided to approve VAR.” Truly, football has had it challenges of getting justice to the teams that deserve it and probably meting out punishment to the other team or player who is found wanting in this regard.

It would have been superb if a player commits a foul and admits to such act; sometimes you will be baffled to watch a player commit a cynical challenge and want to prove that he did not. With VAR the truth will come to the fore. Granted that it may slow than the pace or tempo of the game, but you will have to admit that it is worse if you cannot get to see justice given to the team that deserves it.

Just think of Maradonna’s ‘Hand of God’ goal against England in the 1986 World Cup which up to this moment is seen as a pain in the neck for most football lovers. Do you recall Thierry Henry’s handball which deliberately allowed France to progress to the 2010 World Cup tournament, at the detriment of opponents Republic of Ireland? There are more of these avoidable cases in football if there was VAR back then or were used. No system is absolutely perfect. Let's hope VAR will be the best for football in the future. Accept it!

Webmasters / 5 Reasons Why You Should Start A Blog In 2019 by Ahmedsuleiman(m): 9:10am On Dec 29, 2018
Let's hit the nail on the head on the reasons why you should start a blog in 2019. Year in, year out, there are new entrants into the blogging world, who in one way or the other have picked interest in blogging.

Also, you might have seen, read or heard from someone that some bloggers are making huge some of monies, fame, have a reasonable amount of audience.

You may want to ask yourself, the reason why you should start a blog?

Having that mindset that you will be a successful blogger will make you successful because mind is everything.

That is why 2019 should serve as a step ahead for you to start a blog. Yes, you might have the hunch to ask yourself how will you be successful as a blogger considering the stress you will go through such as getting the right niche for yourself, getting motivation, how to solve a problem how to get adsense for monetizing, how to get traffic or get what to blog about.

All these things should not hinder your plans to start a blog in 2019 as they are the things that makes blogging even more interesting.

We are here to get you on track and to make sure that you get the best as a new blogger to your way into becoming an expert or professional.

We are not unaware that there are various articles out there that you would have stumbled upon as regards why you should start blogging in order to grow your business, make some cool cash, and become expert afterwards. All these do not lie on being an outstanding writer alone, your blogging strategies matters a lot.

Believe me, if you know one thing or the other there is one person out there that will surely need your help since they don't have the right answer to them.

Professional bloggers like John Chow, Syed Balkhi have helped a lot of bloggers start a profitable blog, your duty may not necessarily be to help bloggers, yours maybe to help teenagers or to help us shed more light on our political issues. Please do something for humanity in 2019, don't waste your talent, take a bold step!

Here we go.

5 reasons why you should start a blog in 2019

1. Blogging is lucrative: Yes, blogging is lucrative, in fact you can make a whole lot from it. Everything boils down to the fact that you will have to sacrifice a lot for it.

From your time which will be devoted to it, spend money to make your blog look more prepossessing by designing your blog and coding it properly. Am suggesting that you start a wordpress blog.

The money will flow as there are millionaire and billionaire bloggers out there who have simply carved a niche for themselves. To make money blogging is not easy but cash will surely flow in for you if you do the right thing, but mind you, blogging is not a Get-Rich-Quick-Syndrome.

2. You will be an excellent writer: Practice they say makes perfection. For you to be an outstanding writer, you must learn to put your thoughts in paper. You will need to communicate efficiently and effectively.

You don't just write for writing sake or to fill in the space for people to read. You will need to create the natural instinct yourself and don't compel anything.

The flow will come naturally and you will be a real asset to yourself and to others who will always expect the best from you. One thing you should put in mind is that you write to communicate, and not to impress. As such, you will sharpen your thinking faculty. With this your writing skills will improve.

3. Someone out there needs your inspiration: Well, many people inspire others through their writings. In other words, you inspire others through your blogs. There are blogs out there that have simply redefine people's lifestyle, perceptions, thoughts inter alia. Some even see blog as giving back to the society. People can easily surf the net and be inspired by your posts and charge them into action. This is one of the invaluable roles a blog plays in the life of people.

4. Joblessness will be crossed out from your diary: If you are unemployed, delving into blog is a sure way to greatness and be self-employed.

In today's economy, it is a daunting task for literates around us to secure a plausible job that will help feed themselves, their families, pay their bills and buy the things they wish in life.

If you venture into blogging, create the time and energy into it, you will surely be self-employed and wave goodbye to penury. Getting fully engaged is by having the keen interest in blogging not just frolicking around and expect miracle from where there is none.

At least if anyone should ask you what you do for a living, you can boldly tell them you are a blogger!

You can be misplaced for an online scammer as this is the mindset of an average Nigerian but prove to them that you are not! How? The way you dress is the same way you are addressed!

5. This is your chance to reach more audience and gain popularity: If you are a good writer and you seem to be loved by those who read your thought-provoking or inspiring piece, blogging is the way for you to garner the audience and become popular more than ever before. The larger your audience, the better it is for you. Plethora opportunities abound when you work hard and grow something that is really special. The chances are there for you when you join the world of blogging.

You may have your social media pages or handles such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest among others and build your audience from their though your area of interest.

You will see how you will rise beyond your imagination. Those who love your works will comment and share your posts. Also, having your own blog gives you the power to start creating an email list of people interested in what you have to say.

Conclusion

As we have rightly highlighted and explained the reasons why you should start a blog in 2019, it is our resounding hope that all these will give you the impetus to delve into blogging.

Try as much as much as possible to clear your doubts, be passionate about your blog, sacrifice the time, energy and resources for it, and all these will accumulate into what you never expected.

Remember to always be natural and give your best into it. It is worth it, as your efforts will translate to work in action. It will never be easy! But something should keep you going!

Politics / I Am Not Running For Any Office In 2019 – Lai Mohammed by Ahmedsuleiman(m): 5:18am On Aug 10, 2018
Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said his mission as new All Progressives Congress (APC) leader in Kwara is not to contest any elective position in 2019 but to rescue the state from hawks.

The minister, who spoke at a meeting of Congress of Kwara Progressives said the recent defection from APC by the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki and his followers had presented an opportunity for the people to liberate the state from those who had held it to ransom.

His words: “What an auspicious time for all of us! Never before, have we had a great opportunity like we have now to take our state back from the rapacious few, who has held the state by the jugular and prevented it from meeting the hopes and aspirations of its people.

From my consultations with key stakeholders so far, I can say, categorically, that Kwarans have all resolved to take their destiny into their own hands and take back what rightly belongs to them. This is unprecedented in the history of our state, and we must not waste this opportunity.

On my own part, I can say here, without equivocating, that I won’t be running for any office during the forthcoming elections. For me, it is not about any clamour for office. It is about working with all like minds for the greater benefit of our people,” he said.

The minister underscored the need for the people to be united and shelve their personal ambition to rescue the state. ”I can tell you that if we all remain united, we can’t and we won’t lose the looming battle for the survival of our dear state. All that is required is for us all to subordinate our individual ambitions to the collective efforts to wrest our state from the hegemony of one man and his cohorts,” he said.

Religion / Avoiding Sat Guru Maharaj Ji's Philosophy by Ahmedsuleiman(m): 5:44am On Apr 22, 2018
Avoiding Sat Guru Maharaj Ji's philosophy

Ahmed Suleiman

Oftentimes, what comes to minds of many when the name Guru Maharaj Ji is mentioned is akin to when you send a kid on an errand and you expect the kid to come back with the desired result you want. Unfortunately, what you wished was not what you got. That is an apt description of Sat Guru Maharaj Ji as a spiritual personage. He is seen as a saviour to some people while some view him as a bête noire on earth.

Guru Maharaj Ji was born Mohammed Ajirobatan Ibrahim, no doubt, is a household name and a Nigerian spiritual leader. He was born in Oyo state but resides in Ibadan and declared himself to be a "Living Perfect Master", some of his followers call him "Black Jesus". His spiritual group was founded on November 1st, 1987 having received divine knowledge while studying in London in 1954. Umpteenth times, he has claimed to possess power over all 'illnesses and all problems affecting humanity.'

On April 12, 2018, he was invited to a morning programme, 'Your View' on Television Continental (TVC). It was such a fascinating interview because many haven't seen nor met him as a person hitherto the programme. During the programme, what was first noticed about Guru Maharaj Ji was that he is not a neophyte in the contemporary world. He is versed in what he does. It was once reported in the media that he claimed 'he his God' which he repudiated in the course of the programme. He said in a mild remark that, "I'm not God, but my knowledge is God." His theory of the concept of God is still nebulous to many.

His case is not the blind leading the blind. He was able to give a good account of himself, although he begged few questions thrown at him. Guru Maharaj Ji showed that he is someone who has full control of his mind, not just by fluke. His philosophy is tailored towards what he feels to be right. He depicts to harbour no grudge against humans. One of the questions that could get one tickled was when it was directed to him that he is getting old with the obvious sign of a growing beard. He begged the question by avoiding it while evincing that he is a man who has mastered his craft and knows his onions.

One of the hosts in the programme, Miss Jumoke Alawode had to touch him while trying to grill him and he reciprocated her gesture as well saying that, "I am human like you." As questions were thrown at him from right and left, he kept his composure, knows where the answer was and replied in a mild way. Guru Maharaj Ji is undoubtedly in the know about the happenings and the political twists and turns in the country by chronicling his experience back in 1999 till date. The administrations of erstwhile President Olusegun Obasanjo, Late President Musa Yar'Adua and President Goodluck Jonathan shaped his political views.

In the past, Guru Maharaj Ji has stirred up the hornets' nest with claims in 2009 that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye his is spiritual son. Also in 2016, he caused a stir with his colourful appearance at the Ooni of Ife and Olori Wuraola’s wedding.
He has also claimed to have “healed” a former Military Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB). Such is his character!

For a man who claimed to have travelled far and near and an unapologetic 'god', he has shown that his wisdom is no joke. As he was interrogated by the hosts, he knows how to manoeuvre and meander through questions without necessarily going directly to the question.

It should be made abundantly clear that it seems Guru Maharaj Ji public persona is quite different from what many perceived of him to be. For some, the perception is a man who wittingly or unwittingly raised himself into the position of an apotheosis making it seem to people afar has a man who cannot be touched or neared.

His self acclaimed religion is anathema to some and alien to many. In fact, he has been on this so-called religion itinerary for donkey's years. He knows full well that his concept of God is antithetical to that of Christianity and Islam; even his ideology still hovers around more of a seer to people rather than him elevating and uplifting himself to the height of God. There should be a clear cut difference between who he says he is, what he does and how he is perceived by humans. Whether he has a lot of followers or not that does not really alter the perception and the psyche of the people.

Maharaj Ji's love for red colour applies to him as a symbol of love while advising people to avoid blue colour. On the programme, he regaled the white couch with a long red cloth where he sat on it, took two of his acolytes to the studio and both stood behind him like bodyguards in a kung fu movie. Guru Maharaj Ji held a flower on his hand like a rose.

Obviously, he has become such an arbiter of his religious undertones with his cod of psychology and philosophy. He selflessly claims to be around for primordial reasons and has succeeded in making his devotees see the sun, moon, water, fire, air, star and the mother-earth as part of pillars of their faith. All devotees are vegetarians, and they are mostly dressed in white and red. That is the power and influence of such a bugaboo belief and religion.

When is Kaduna State government going to get it right? Sacking of teachers is now like a second skin to the government. This is becoming unbearable given the economic conditions we are as a nation.

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and the coup de théâtre

By Ahmed Suleiman

In a show of apparent audacious and unabashed move, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege representing Delta Central Senatorial District and in a commando style with hoodlums stormed the Senate while plenary was ongoing, carting away the mace which is a sign of authority tells once more the division, precariousness and appalling state we are bedevilling as a nation. We are now in a stage where lawlessness is overtly executed by those who are presumed to be lawful citizens. This unprecedented show of lawlessness is not unconnected with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege's suspension. No matter the position or grievance, you don't take the law into your hands.

Concerns were raised about the befuddled Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who was suspended by the Senate for 90 legislative days on April 12, 2018. Senate leadership gave reason why the Senator representing Delta Central was sanctioned "for taking the senate to court" and "smacks of gross indiscipline, which should not be condoned by the upper chamber." In some quarters, the belief was that the Senator was suspended over his opposition to the election reordering bill and his support for the activities of the Parliamentary Support Group for President Buhari.

Reports have it that the hoodlums who accompanied the suspended Senator to the hallowed chamber are from his state. The suspects are said to be five in numbers and their names reportedly disclosed as Tuoyo Mabiaku (Warri North LGA), Peter Orede (Warri South LGA), Blessing Edjeke (Abraka In Ethiope East LGA), Lucky Okomu (Oghara in Ethiope West LGA) and Prince Enayemo (Ughelli South LGA). The suspects reportedly left the National Assembly with the mace in a black Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV).

While it is crystal clear that some people are obviously dissatisfied and disappointed with the leadership of the Senate, there is utmost concern that our nascent democracy is suffering and having a huge setback, and a nation that is still crawling and finding it difficult to stamp its feet on the sands of time. Senator Ovie Omo-Agege's show of shame should be condemned in strong and unequivocal terms by all plausible individuals, groups and institutions. Such shenanigans are not only treasonable but disgraceful and dangerous.

Leaders cannot continue to display ineptitude and false claims to the youths who still hope to be quintessential leaders of tomorrow someday. Progeny and posterity will never forgive nor forget anyone who in a willful manner disrupt and disturb the plenary in the Senate by attempting to stage play anarchy into the polity.

For a Senator representing his constituency to have acted like a bear with a sore head depicts a man who has been frustrated, knocked-down-drag-out and possesses a belligerent attitude calls for acute retrospection. You don't take the law into your own hands by throwing caution to the wind. Like Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th President of the United States warned that "Patriotism means to stand with the country. It does not mean to stand with the President." Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is dead wrong to have flouted the law.

Even albeit, the left over good impression we have is deliberately tarnished by ulterior motives and moves by an aggrieved member of the Senate. This obviously shows that there is a scarce unity among them and the leadership of the Senate must address this with utmost seriousness.

Like Murphy's Law which aptly corroborates that "if anything can possibly go wrong, it will go wrong." The kamikaze attack is highly uncalled for and uncouth in a country where there is rule of law. Our democracy and rule of law should be firmly established and upheld by all and sundry.

In this wise, the mastermind and the perpetrators of the orchestration must be punished to serve as deterrent to would be attackers in the future. We cannot continue in this Trojan horse way and expect different results. The faux pas virtually vitiates our collective reasoning and unity as a nation.

You really tried by putting your words in the right context. You are good. What you now need is how to secure emotions on your writings. Poem, I believe centres on the ability of the poet to make his/her ready relish more and be deep in the words.

As I said earlier, you tried but you can do better.

Why the division?

By Ahmed Suleiman

Back in the 1970s, nationalism was like the mantra among politicians, elite and within the hoi polloi. In 1976, Nigeria had one of the strongest currencies in the world; with 75 Kobo (75K) being convertible to one British Pound (£1) and 60 Kobo (60K) being equal to one US dollar (US$1). Afterwards, regionalism proliferated in Nigeria by politicians in order to win cheap political scores and enthrone themselves into political offices.

The undiluted spirit of nationalism once experienced in the days of yore seems to be gone for good. We no longer have the nous and knack for the spirit of camaraderie which was the epitome and exemplary show of our unity, love and peace. We now have rulers not leaders, and servant in lieu of savants. There is a constant similitude between 1970 and now, evincing that a lot has changed; Nigeria has metamorphosed hitherto and that has made us have a great turnaround from the old good ways to the new bad ways.

What is striking is the fact that many a Nigerian is seen taking their positions of national concern from religious and ethnic perspectives rather than admitting to be a Nigerian first and be a patriot. Nowadays, hardly can we go without a day experiencing religious sentiment and tribal divides.

Many Nigerians now see things, first, from a religious perspective instead of nationalism perspective. This is where we are getting it wrong. This is where we are losing ourselves. We have divided and denigrated our humble selves. We longer have selfless leaders, but selfish leaders. Aggrandisement is the order of the day and the other way round to avariciousness. Nigeria is now like a unicorn with no direction.

There are no more keen kith and kin that will make a nation of unity and uniqueness. Lost glory can no longer be restored in the face of adversity and mendacity. Nigerians, hitherto, were as keen as mustard in all ramification. But no one is everyone again. The hue and cry is never enough to make us achieve our desired goals. In fact, we are now scoring own goals in our backyards. Everything now means nothing.

That is why it behoves every Tom, Dick and Harry to be united instead of standing alone and aloft. We should no longer stand with arms akimbo and think things will work and walk their ways by divine mercy. That is sheer reverie in the land of endless human and natural resources. We no longer unite to fight a common enemy; but we fight to unite an enemy that is common. Such is the hegemonic attitude, influence and control we are entangled with for some time now. That is just it. Many things have eluded and evaded us before; and till this moment we are losing and oozing in dire consequence.

For Nigeria to be great like other saner nations, it needs to be restarted by righting the wrongs. We need to imbibe cautious measures from where it is necessary and impact where it is visible and not invisible. Let's not see ourselves as strangers and traders from foreign lands. We are one and none is superior unless when we look at ourselves as inferior. There and then, we can lead our country away from the shade of bad rulers to good leaders where there is milk and honey. Then, we can ask ourselves the potent poser: Why the division? The question may just be the mot juste we need to unlock and unravel the dead spirit of nationalism within us.
