A lot of schools use plagiarism software I think. I did my MSc in Nigeria and 20 %was the benchmark for plagiarism.
asunmoGGMU:

I doubt if any PG School in Nigeria uses plagiarism software to flag infringement. It is a sad tale. The education system is actually a microcosm of what is obtainable here. I really cant figure how things can be get right. I once challenged a PG Coordinator of a renowned federal university in Nigeria on the issue of flagging plagiarized work, the reply I got was disheartening.

That said, I want to believe the 10% is kind of too much considering that most foreign schools I have seen peg it at 23-25%. If they can still put it at that range, it is not bad IMO.

To give my input on publishing in internationally recognized journal with standard, I want to say you are very much right. However, it is not to be over-simplified. How do one reconcile a nation with poor R & D, yet we crave for what is obtainable in countries that take R & D serious.

Take for instance, I am just a 'jobless' Master student in a federal university. All the papers I submitted for publications are mostly to some Q2/Q3 journal because it is free, not because it isn't worthy of being in Q1 journal or something.

This country is always peculiar. 'Good' things are always difficult to attain in this country. It is what it is.

Travel / Unbelievable! British Airways Planes Attacked By Strange Birds In Air by aigjoey(m): 10:02pm On Nov 20, 2017
According to unconfirmed reports making the rounds, a British Airways plane was attacked on air by birds of prey that completely damaged the aircraft.

The planes reportedly carrying Christian worshipers were forced to have an emergency landing in China after they were violently attacked by strange birds.

“It happened this morning as our plane was about to take off,the Devil and his Demons in forms of birds attacked the plane on air, they wanted to brake into the pilot positions and finally make the plane fall down and crash. Our lord Jesus Christ said it was not yet our time”, said Pastor Brian yesterday after he disembarked from the plane.

Science/Technology / Who Name Hurricanes? Why Is This Storm Called Irma by aigjoey(m): 7:32am On Sep 09, 2017
*
WHO NAME HURRICANES ? WHY IS THIS STORM CALLED IRMA ? THE PROCESS BEHIND CHOOSING TROPICAL STORM NAMES

*

Hurricane Harvey and Irma have ripped through the US Gulf Coast and Caribbean over the past fortnight leaving a trail of devastation.

Experts predicted this year’s Atlantic hurricane season – which runs from April to November – to be more active than usual and so far 10 named storms and four hurricanes have been recorded.

Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic hurricane ever recorded, is the latest to make landfall after reaching the Caribbean on Wednesday morning.

For anyone named Irma – or Katrina, Sandy or Matthew – the association with a devastating storm can be strange.

* _This is how hurricanes are named.
Who names ```hurricanes``` ?*
_
The Atlantic storm lists were originally created by the National Hurricane Centre in the 1950s and are now managed by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO), which decides when names are struck off and replaced.
[hurricaneirmatrail.
Hurricane Irma, the most powerful Atlantic hurricane ever, is being followed by tropical storm Jose.

There are different storm name lists for different parts of the world. These lists are managed by the WMO but separate regions’ meteorological organisations may compile the names.

For Atlantic storms, there are six lists which are rotated every six years.
Why are hurricanes named?

Storms are given names for a number of reasons.

According to the WMO, names are easier to remember than numbers or technical terms which means they can be easily identified in warning messages and the media.

There is also less likelihood of making an error if you name storms, rather than using latitude-longitude identification methods. Naming helps ships, coastal bases and monitoring stations easily exchange information.

Some experts suggest naming storms even helps the community prepare better and heightens interest in warnings.
How are hurricanes given names?

Names are chosen from an alphabetical list which is worked through chronologically each hurricane season.

For storms in the Atlantic and Eastern North Pacific regions, there are six lists which are rotated every six years.

Traditionally, just female names were used before alternate men’s names were introduced in 1979.
Planes pass through the eye of Hurricane Irma

There are 21 names on the Atlantic season list – with the letters Q, U, X, Y and Z never used.

The WMO makes it clear that hurricane or cyclones are not named after particular people, but are names selected which are familiar to people in each region.

In some areas - like the central north pacific – a new list is not started on at the beginning of each year. There are four lists and names are worked through sequentially until they reach the bottom.
When are names struck off the list?

Names are removed from the rotating lists, or “retired”, if a hurricane is so devastating it would be insensitive to use the name again.

In that case, an annual WMO committee meeting will decide to strike off the name and another name is selected.

Examples of names which will never be used again include Katrina (2005), Sandy (2012) and Matthew from last year.
Can I have a tropical storm named for me?

Not really; the WMO committee does not take applications for new hurricane or cyclone names.

The best chance is Australia where the Bureau of Meteorology – which submits new names to the WMO – receives many requests from the public to name storms after people.

The Bureau accepts requests received in writing and the name will be added to a supplementary list.

But it can take many decades for a suitable slot to be found, the Bureau warned.

You do not expect us to be calm when we are threatened. The unemhe are very peaceful people. Ogori is too small for u to defeat. Take note of that
BushDoctor123:
Ekpedo should learn to live peacefully with their neighbours and stop this land grabbing attitude. They are landlocked between the Bekumas on the west and Ekpe on the east with Ogori in kogi state on the North. The Ekpedo's are always at war with these communities except Ogori which they couldn't defeat in warfare even though they exterminated and conquered Oke Ola village.

HungerBAD:

They were guns or ironsmiths and according to folklore, they sold weapons to the enemies of Bini Kingdom and so were banished.

The Uneme people are very touchy about this subject, and ironically they have the most beautiful ladies in Edo and it is either a man from their place marry them or a stranger from outside Edo.

But never any tribe from Edo State.

Although i am not Benin, but i have a very strong respect for the Benin Monarchy.

What we just witnessed is a rarity, and as regards tradition, something very powerful.

The curse the palace placed on the people of Uneme (In Akoko Edo)still follows them more than a 100 years later.

And that is why in Edo State, they are referred to as the "Rejected People" and no other Edo Tribe gets married to them.

Just curious, has his offense been made public?

Please where are you from. I would like to tell the world how many men from your maternal village are married to an unemhe girl.
courage54:

What HungerBad wrote is actually the truth. When someone is been banished from a particular place in Edo State it does not implies that the person cannot stay in that same place again, it only mean that the person will not be able to do any form of business with the people of that community again as nobody can either buy or sell anything to that person. Nobody will ever attend any social events with that person again this is evident in that video as people started running away from the man immediately he was pushed out of the Palace . As for the case of Uneme in Akoko Edo, it is forbidden for anyone from my maternal village to marry someone from there.

The Devil is a Liar…. The Country of my Fantasy!!
Written by: Aigboje Joseph
Edited by: Ozah Uchechukwu(CIIN)
The devil is a liar; all he wants is to stand between you and your desire. The Miriam Webster Dictionary defines “Desire” as: to long or hope for, to express or wish for. Also, the bible dictionary gives a concise definition of “DEVIL” as the deceiver who leads human astray. The devil is a slanderer, the arch enemy of man’s spiritual interest (Job, 6; Revelation 2:10, Zachariah 3:1). The devil is also “the accuser of the brethren” (Revelation 12:10). The urban Dictionary, defines “a liar as a person who doesn’t tell the truth and a backstabbing friend”.
The devil is a liar, a slanderer, he is the arch enemy of mans spiritual interest and the deceiver who leads human astray. He is a backstabbing friend who does not tell the truth. His calling is to stand between you and your desire. What then are the devils of the day that tend to stand between Nigerians and her desire? Chiefly among the devils to be discussed in this piece are the All Progressive Congress (APC) and her Leaders.
The APC came at a point were all Nigerians ‘Desire’ CHANGE and better governance and representatives. They sold to us the change mantra from Lagos to Kafancha, Calabar to Benin and Niger to Bayelsa. We all bought into the change mantra of the APC because it was our desire that this change will make us have the country of our fantasy but 20 months after assuming power through the instrument of propaganda, it has become noticeable that the APC and her leaders are not less than the devil who is also a liar (if not even more powerful). Constantly, they have stood between the citizen and her desires. Our desire is change but the APC has become the Accuser of the brethren .They accused the past administration of all ills and worse still they are now accusing the citizens who voted them in as not being patient and anti democracy (na wa). The change has now become a chain as evident in the hike of commodities and exchange rate .
The APC has become a bunch of slanderer and backstabber of the citizens who genuinely voted them in by saying change begins with us. One wonders what change they meant. Oh, I see, it is the change from 180 per dollar to 500 naira or the change on the price of biro from 20 naira to 50 naira. What exactly is the change that has to begin with us? The most annoying part is that this APC has never told the truth, they lie about everything, from policy formation to budget implementation, to employment scheme and to the plight of the IDPs in the North and just of recent they lied about the true state of health of the president. Somebody, please tell me, is the devil not a liar? Yes, He is. They lied to get to power and are fantastically lying to sustain power. But thank God we now know that the devil is a liar all he wants is to stand between us and our desires so that we cannot achieve the country of our fantasy. (God pass them).
The second devil/liar that has been preventing us from realizing the country of our fantasy is the leaders of this broom carrying devil called APC. The Webster Dictionary defines ”leaders as people who knows how to achieve goals and inspire people along the way”. It went ahead to defining leadership as the power or ability to lead other people”. Mark Little, the founder and president of Diversified Funding sees a leader as someone who leads by example and has the integrity to do the right thing even when it is not popular. Furthermore, Little opined that, a good leader has positive influence over others, inspiring them to become a better person and example for others to model their life against as well.
My perspective of a leader is an individual who knows the ins and outs about the business so that they can empathize with followers. Leaders are customer service officers and as such should be kind to the customers (citizens).Customers are the soul of any business just as the citizens are the soul of any country.
Kindly recall, that the definition of Devil and Liar have already been established from the beginning of this piece. The question now is how then do the APC leaders fit into these two words… devil, liar. Since 1963, when Nigeria became a Republic, there has been one form of leadership tussle to another. This was evident in the various coup d’état that happened in the country and the annulment of the 1993 election of June 12 to this present administration that I am so particular of.
I recall vividly of an article I read in the Vanguard of 27 October, 2015, titled “Deception is Corruption”. In summary it reads “Lai Mohammed, the APC National Publicity Secretary, is one of president Buhari’s ministerial nominees. When he appeared for the screening before the senate. Senator Godswill Akpabio (also a devil and a liar) made a sardonic observation. He said ,if I know Lai Mohammed very well, he may have one or two propaganda to drop before he leaves here”. His senate colleagues burst into laughter because they understood what he meant.
Lai Mohammed, an APC steward, a master propagandist. During the election in a bid to sell the change mantra to us, cried wolf every other day, claiming to unearth new “fantabulous” PDP plans to rig the election. One of the most outrageous was his allegation that the PDP used disappearing ink on the ballot papers of APC supporters in Ekiti. The same Lai Mohammed also alleged that PDP imported one Gyora Berger from Israel with the mandate to jam all the card readers in the North - East and the North –West- (the devil is a liar).
Eww!! (terrible) to say that about 20 months after assuming power, the only recognized public policy of the Buhari administration is anti corruption. Everything about this administration is anti corruption. The people, anti corruption, foregn policy, anti corruption, plan to bring the nation out of recession, anti corruption. Its plan to fix our broken health and educational system is also anti corruption even the president’s health details is anti corruption (the devil is a liar). Which way?
This government has proven to all that –it is a devil and a liar, bent on standing between our country and her desire. Change has become chain. Backstabbing and slanderous statement is what this change government has turned into. This government has led her people astray, massive frustration in the land. A true attribute of a devil and a liar, who will not want his people to have the country of their fantasy. Whose policies through her various leaders have made food commodities so expensive, whose sport minister never believes in victory, whose transport minister is an ordained and acclaimed corrupt individual, whose EFCC boss has been accused of massive corruption, whose AGF has being indicted for contract scam, whose former governor says a senior official of the Obama administration revealed that a Jonathan minister stole $6 billion dollars. Jesus!! The devil is a liar. How can one single individual possible steal that much. As if that was not enough, he also claimed that a consultancy fee of 140 billion naira was paid for the second Niger Bridge when the total cost of the bridge is only 108 billion. Someone needs to tell the leaders of APC that telling lies is corruption and an attribute of the devil who is also a liar. That when these lies shall stop we will achieve the country of our fantasy.

I think it is high time the moderator ban and chain this little Tony of a boy. You come here to look for cheap popularity, to impress who. Isn't it inciteful enough for the Sultan and other northern elders to call for the arrest of our respected Christian leaders in the country for voicing against what happened in southern kaduna. When did it become crime for Christians to defend themselves. About 808 Christians were killed not one person has been brought to book. And one Tony of a boy, the SANBALLAT OF NAIRA LAND AND HIS TOBIAH BROTHERS IN THE NORTH ARE HERE SAYING NONSENSE. BE WARNED. AND PLEASE GO GET CURED OF YOUR SICKNESS. DEBILITATING VERBAL DIARRHEA.

Trump acknowledges Russian involvement in meddling in U.S. elections

By David Nakamura,
January 11

For the first time since he was elected, President-elect Donald Trump held a news conference Jan. 11. Here are key revelations from his question-and-answer session with reporters in New York. (The Washington Post)
President-elect Donald Trump acknowledged for the first time Wednesday that he believes Russian operatives hacked the Democratic Party during the election, but he continued to dispute intelligence reports that Moscow acted to help him win.

“I think it was Russia,” Trump said at a news conference in New York when asked who was responsible for the public leaks of Democratic emails during the campaign.

But Trump emphasized that he believes Russia also would have released damaging information about him had they obtained such information. He angrily denounced news reports that U.S. officials had obtained an unsubstantiated dossier of potentially compromising personal information Russia has allegedly gathered about him, citing denials from the Kremlin that it has any such intelligence.

U.S. officials reportedly included a two-page summary of the dossier in classified briefings of Russia’s meddling in the election to President Obama and, separately, to Trump last week. Trump and his aides, including Vice President-elect Mike Pence, called the leaks of the information a smear campaign that aimed to damage Trump politically.

“It’s a disgrace that that information would be let out,” Trump said. “I saw the information; I read the information outside that meeting. It’s all fake news — phony stuff. It didn’t happen.”

Trump also addressed questions about his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, with whom he has expressed a desire to improve bilateral relations.

“If Putin likes Donald Trump, guess what folks, that’s an asset not a liability,” Trump said. “I don’t know if I’ll get along with Vladimir Putin . . . but even if I don’t does anyone in this room think Hillary Clinton would be tougher on Putin than me? Give me a break.”

Trump made his remarks in his first news conference as president-elect, ending a period of 167 days since he has fielded questions from the full media contingent. Past winners of the presidency have traditionally faced the media much earlier.

An estimated 250 journalists were crowded into the lobby of Trump Tower, where Trump aides had set up 10 American flags in front of a blue curtain.

During the news conference, Trump announced that he has tapped David Shulkin, a physician who is serving in the Obama administration as Veterans Affairs undersecretary, to lead VA. And he detailed plans to shift his business assets into a trust managed by his sons and give up management of his private company, a step that will help the business executive move closer to resolving potential conflicts of interest.

He also again resisted the idea that he should release his tax returns, saying “the only ones that care about my tax returns are the reporters” and suggesting the public does not care about the issue.

Earlier in the day, Trump had charged via Twitter that his “crooked opponents” are trying to undermine his electoral victory. He accused the intelligence community of leaking the information to get in “one last shot at me,” saying, “Are we living in Nazi Germany?”

At the news conference, Pence and Sean Spicer, who has been tapped to be White House press secretary in Trump’s administration, also denounced news organizations for their reports on the unsubstantiated dossier.

Trump and his aides took particular aim at CNN, which broke the story that intelligence officials had included it in their briefings, and BuzzFeed News, which published a copy of the dossier in full. Trump refused to allow a CNN reporter to ask a question.

“You are fake news,” Trump said to the reporter, Jim Acosta, who had shouted out in an attempt to be called upon.

The president-elect called BuzzFeed “a failing pile of garbage.”

“It’s a disgrace what took place, and I think they ought to apologize to start with,” he said.

U.S. officials said that intelligence agencies have not corroborated the allegations contained in the dossier but believed the sources involved in the reporting were credible enough to warrant inclusion of their claims in the highly classified report on Russian interference in the presidential campaign.

Earlier Wednesday, a spokesman for Putin called the allegations that Russia has collected compromising information about Trump an “absolute fantasy.”

Soon after, Trump tweeted: “Russia just said the unverified report paid for by political opponents is ‘A COMPLETE AND TOTAL FABRICATION, UTTER NONSENSE.’ Very unfair!”

Speaking Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Trump adviser Reince Priebus called the BuzzFeed report “phony baloney garbage.” He denied that Trump had engaged in compromising behavior in Russia and that Trump aide Michael Cohen had traveled to Prague to meet with Russian officials. Both allegations were contained in the document published by BuzzFeed.

“There was no craziness in Russia. There was no meeting in Prague,” Priebus said. “It is not an intelligence document. Cohen has never been in Prague. And all of this stuff isn’t even fit to print in the New York Times.”

In an interview Tuesday night with NBC News, Obama said that he had not seen the reports and declined to comment on classified information.

On immigration, Trump insisted he will build a wall — not a fence — along the southern U.S. border with Mexico, reiterating that Mexico will “reimburse” the United States for the cost after it is initially funded by taxpayers. Republican leaders in Congress have been working with Pence and other Trump aides to develop legislation to start the process, which is projected to cost billions of dollars.

“Mexico, through some form . . . will reimburse us,” Trump said. “That will happen. Whether it’s a tax or whether it’s a payment.”

“What’s the difference” if the payment is a reimbursement, Trump added. “I want to get the wall started. I don’t want to wait a year and a half until I make my deal with Mexico.”

Wrapping up the news conference, Trump pointed to a work table piled with a massive stack of folders bursting with papers that was set up next to the lectern.

The documents related to his business holdings, Trump said, and they represented some of the assets he would turn over to his sons Donald Jr. and Eric to oversee under the new arrangement in which he will not be involved in management decisions.

“I hope at the end of eight years I’ll come back and say, ‘Oh, you did a good job,’ ” Trump said, before falling back on a catchphrase he made famous on his television show, “The Apprentice.”

“Otherwise,” he added, “if they do a bad job, I’ll say, ‘You’re fired.’ ”
