Politics / True Facts We Should Know Ongoing OLUBADAN CHIEFTANCY REVIEW by Akanbi22(m): 4:09pm On Jun 22, 2017
Don't be FOOLED or CONFUSED - These Are True FACTS You Should Know About The Ongoing OLUBADAN CHIEFTAINCY REVIEW

▪ The present Oyo state government has set up a judiciary panel to review the 1957 Ibadan Chieftaincy Declaration.

▪ This review is NOT aimed at distorting the succession pattern of the present Olubadan stool, rather, the review is to expand and improve on the existing declaration.

▪ To justify its overdue need, the Abiola Ajimobi-led government is not the first to commission a review of this declaration.

▪ Four (4) past administrations in Oyo state, including that of Chief Bola Ige and that of the present Osi Olubadan, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, have all sought to review this declaration for best reasons, but didn't conclude.

▪ The Ajimobi administration will be the first to commission and conclude this much-needed review to achieve its intention.

▪ The review is much needed and long overdue because Ibadan, and its over 160 regions, needs it. Our city is big enough to entrench and accommodate a broader traditional base for cultural and communal efficiency.

▪ As said above, this review seeks expansion and not distortion of the succession of the Olubadan stool. Rather, it seeks ways to make Ibadan have regional Obas to ensure much ease in attaining communal accord and peace, and driving socioeconomic development.

▪ We should stop and condemn anyone who attempts to use a very clear but, royal matter such as the Olubadan Chieftaincy review, to cause confusion and score political offside goals.

Politics / Return Looted Funds..... by Akanbi22(m): 9:25am On Jun 22, 2017
RETURN LOOTED FUNDS TO HELP THE ONGOING PROCESS TO REVIVE OUR SCHOOLS - OYO STUDENTS BEG LADOJA
OLANIRAN FAITH 12:44 PM NO COMMENTS

The Oyo State Youth Restoration Team (OYSRET) has appealed to former Governor Rashidi Ladoja to adopt the plea bargaining approach to resolve his N4.7bn corruption case, saying that the money if returned, could be used to fund cash trapped higher institutions in the State.

The Student group, led by Comrade Ola Jimoh who said this on Wednesday pointed out that the money, which the Accord Party leader is being tried for by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) would go a long way to resolve the crises in the state's  tertiary institutions.

Comrade Ola said "We need to put Governor Ajimobi to test. He said there is not enough money to give our schools' subventions as he used to do and we all know the present situation in the country. He has however promised to give 100% of the stolen state's funds to LAUTECH if returned. This, we believe  should be a wake up call for former governor Ladoja to return the stolen money he is being tried for.

"We are against the clandestine move by the Accord Party leader to use the  financial crisis in LAUTECH to score political points. He once returned about N500m which was expended on construction on Model Schools according to the Oyo State Government. He has returned money before and there won't be any big deal if he does same now. We can now monitor the disbursement of the money as well as telling Governor Ajimobi to give other institutions part of the money instead of LAUTECH alone", he stressed.

Culture / Olubadan, Ibadan High Chiefs Back Ajimobi On Olubadan Chieftaincy Law Review.... by Akanbi22(m): 4:24pm On Jun 15, 2017
The move by Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, to review the 1957 Olubadan Chieftaincy Declaration received a boost on Wednesday, as the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji and members of the Olubadan-in-Council endorsed the move.

The governor had, on May 19, inaugurated a seven-man judicial commission of inquiry, headed by a retired High Court judge, Justice Akintunde Boade, to review the existing chieftaincy declaration and other related chieftaincies in Ibadanland.

The royal father, while speaking at the end of a meeting held with the governor at the Governor’s Office, said he and all his chiefs were in full support of the exercise, saying it would bring development to the ancient city.

Olubadan said, "Our visit (to the governor) today, as you can see, is to put paid to the rumours and misgivings about the review of the Olubadan Chieftaincy declaration.

``We have come to show our sincere support to the governor and to let him know that we are on the same page with him as the review is for the progress of Ibadan and its people.’’

Also speaking, the Otun Olubadan, High Chief Lekan Balogun, who was one of the two High Chiefs that had dragged the governor to court over the issue, attributed his action to what he called communication gap.

According to him, the exercise was aimed at modernizing the methods of ascension to the Olubadan throne.

Balogun said, ``Change is the only constant thing in life. There is nothing that is above change. All the furore which had resulted from government’s move was due to communication gap but that has been resolved now.

"Life is dialectical; things must be changing and we must all be growing with it. The government is quite right to have set up machinery to look into the law and see how it can be made better.

"We believe it is a welcome development, especially with the kind of governor we have who is keenly interested in the growth and development of Ibadanland,"

The high chief said that the benefits inherent in the review were many, noting that the Olubadan would henceforth enjoy the company of beaded crown chiefs whenever he had any outing.

This, he said, would raise the status of Ibadan as one of the most important cities in Yoruba land.

He added: "The benefits to be derived from the review are enormous. Even if we don't want to pre-empt the future, we will wait till things are resolved fundamentally. But, we know that Olubadan will no longer be moving alone any longer.

"Of course, there will be high chiefs with the nomenclature of Obas, the Olubadan won't be on his own anymore. When royal majesties (in other cities) go out, they are always in company with beaded crown Obas.``

Another member of the Olubadan-in-Council, High Chief Owolabi Olakulehin, said virtually all the neighbouring Yoruba states had adopted the system being contemplated for Ibadan through the review.

Other members of the Olubadan-in-Council at the meeting were the Otun-Balogun, High Chief Olufemi Olaifa; Ashipa Olubadan, High Chief Eddy Oyewole; Osi Balogun, High Chief Tajudeen Ajibola; and Ekaarun Olubadan, High Chief Amidu Ajibade,.

Others included, Ashipa Balogun Olubadan, High Chief Lateef Gbadamosi; Ekaarun Balogun, High Chief Kola Adegbola; and Ekerin Olubadan, High Chief Abiodun Kola-Daisi.

Politics / Re: Ajimobi Revives Ibadan Circular Road Project, 15 Years After by Akanbi22(m): 3:04pm On Jun 15, 2017
Oladokun78 thank you. Sir!:
Fifteen years after the idea was conceived, Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi will on Friday flag off the construction of Ibadan Circular Road to enhance the socio-economic development of the ancient city.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Mr. Yomi Layinka, disclosed this, on Wednesday.

The project, which was conceived by the administration of former Governor Lam Adesina, had suffered neglect and abandonment by successive administrations in the state.

Layinka said: ``In the pursuit of his administration’s agenda to transform Oyo into a modern state of his dream, Governor Abiola Ajimobi identified the socio-economic benefits of the circular road project to the state and has diligently pursued its manifestation.

``In realization of this vision, the state government signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction of the road through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with ENL Consortium Limited.

``The circular road, when completed, is expected to ease intra and inter-city traffic congestion, especially for Ibadan which is fast becoming an industrialized city under the current administration.
``The circular road will serve as a bye pass for inter-city traffic on routes outside Ibadan, while it will open a new economic corridor for controlled development in line with the Ibadan Master Plan.’’
Layinka added that the road would further enhance the socio-economic life and ultimately engender better standard of living of the people.
He said it would also boost trade and commerce, enhance revenue generation as well as create employment opportunities for the teeming youth in the state.
The Adesina administration had in 2002 constituted an inter-ministerial committee for the purpose of construction of the road.
The committee had proposed a survey design towards ascertaining the cost of the project for eventual award to a contractor, which was not implemented until the end of that regime.
The contract for the survey of the road was awarded in 2005 by Adesina’s successor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, while the engineering design was awarded in 2005 and concluded in 2007.
Although the contract for the construction of the road, which was divided into two phases, was awarded to two contractors by the regime, the project was later cancelled by the Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala administration on assumption of office.
For reasons not made public, the Alao-Akala administration substituted the project with new ones which the contractors were compelled to execute, having already been mobilized for the circular road.
