Okocha in his address said Governor Wike was running the state without a clear-cut blueprint.

He said there had been high rate of kidnapping, hostage taking and other criminal vices in the state.

Okocha, who was also the former Chief of Staff to immediate past Governor Rotimi Amaechi called on the people of Rivers state to be optimistic, adding that sanity will soon return to the state.

Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, is seeking the National Assembly’s approval for the federal government’s borrowing plan.

Amaechi revealed that the China Exim Bank was ready to loan Nigeria $1.5billion for the Lagos-Ibadan rail line, but approval was needed before any agreement is signed.

He stated this while appearing before the Senate Committee on Land Transport on Tuesday.

Amaechi also promised that the foundation of the Lagos-Ibadan segment of the Lagos-Kano rail line, will be ready before the first quarter of this year ends.

He said: “In the first quarter of 2017, the foundation of the Lagos-Ibadan segment two of the Lagos-Kano rail project will be laid. The implication here is that we will start the Lagos-Ibadan rail line before the end of March.

“Our target is to commence from the Apapa seaport down to Ogun and then to Ibadan. That is our plan. The counterpart funding is ready, but don’t forget that we are borrowing the money from China. The Attorney General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, and the Director of the Department of State Services, DSS, Lawal Daura to obey its request granting release to the leader of Shi’ite movement, Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife, Malama Zeenat or face jail.


El-Zakzaky has been in detention since December 2015, after members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shi’ite clashed with the Army in Zaria, Kaduna State.

In December 2016, the court ordered the DSS to free El-Zakzaky and his wife but the Shi’ite leader has continued to languish in custody.

The court had also ordered a compensation which was to be paid within 40 days from the day the judgment was delivered.

However, in a notice of consequence of disobedience to court order, the Federal High court warned the listed officials to release El-Zakzaky or face contempt of court charges which is liable to jail term.

The notice sent to the trio, reads in part: “Take notice that unless you obey the direction contained in the order of the Federal High Court of Justice Abuja, delivered on the 2nd December, 2016, which ordered you to release the Applicants in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/281/2016 and its sister case Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/282/2016 within forty (40) days, inter alia you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison.”

Frowning at the refusal to release the Shi’ite leader, the court said, “you are yet to comply with the lawful order of this honourable court by refusing to release the following persons namely: Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and Malama Zeenat Ibrahim, in your custody. You are hereby directed to comply with the court order forthwith or you will be guilty of contempt of court.”

Former Special Assistant to ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan on New Media, Reno Omokri, has insisted that governor Nasir El-Rufai should be arrested first.

Governor Fayose, who challenged the security agencies in the country, especially the DSS to tell Nigerians how many of the Fulani herdsmen that killed thousands of Nigerians across the country have been arrested, added that; “Nigerians, either Muslim or Christian deserve to be protected by the federal government, which controls all security apparatus in the country and the moment the federal government can no longer protect Nigerians from being killed by rampaging herdsmen, citizens of the country will have no option than to defend themselves.”

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, arraigned a former Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Emeka Mba alongside three others before Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court sitting in Maitama, Abuja on a 15-count charge of money laundering and procurement fraud to the tune of N2.8billion.

Mba was arraigned alongside a former director of finance, NBC, Patrick Areh, Basil Udotai and Babatunji Amure.

They were alleged to have at various times connived and transferred a sum of N2,899,723,500 from the account of NBC through various proxies for their personal gains.

Mba was also alleged to have used his office as NBC DG to award contracts without following due procurement process.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), is set to announce the commencement of sale of 2017/2018 admission forms for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry (DE), after agreeing on a harmonized timetable with other examination bodies in the country.

This agreement was reached at the national headquarters of the Board in Abuja on Tuesday, after a meeting with National Examination Council (NECO), West African Examination Council (WAEC) and National Business and Technical Examination (NABTEB).
