Honda Accord Plug-In Hybrid

115 e-mpg/46 mpg combined city/highway. As the name might indicate, this is a plug-in gas/electric hybrid version of the

roomy and comfortable midsize Accord sedan; it combines a 2.0-liter 141-horsepower gasoline engine with a 55 horsepower

electric motor and features a larger battery than the standard Accord hybrid that enables it to run for around 13 miles in all-

electric mode, after which it operates like a conventional hybrid. It does, however, need to be recharged overnight via a wall

outlet to achieve its EV utility (which is claimed to take less than an hour on a 240-volt line and under three hours with 120

volts)

Chevrolet Volt

98 e-mpg/37 mpg combined city/highway. This “extended range electric vehicle” comes powered primarily by an electric

motor and a rechargeable battery that’s estimated to deliver 38 miles of all-electric propulsion on a charge. Beyond that, a

1.4-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine engages to run a generator that, in turn, powers the electric motor, allowing the car to

continue running

Tesla Model S

88/90-94/97 e-mpg city/highway (depending on the battery pack). Certainly the most talked about car – electric or otherwise –

over the last year, the Model S luxury sedan offers either of two battery packs with 60 or 85kW-hr capacity, with a maximum

driving distance on a charge of 208 and 265 miles, respectively. Its all-electric powertrain enables a 0-60 mph time in as little

as 4.2 seconds, which places it firmly into the range of some hot-blooded sports cars. The batteries can be recharged overnight

via a standard 110-volt receptacle or in about four hours via a 220-volt circuit

Mercedes Benz B-Class Electric Drive

85/83 e-mpg city/highway. Based on a popular small car that’s sold elsewhere in the world, the B-Class is Mercedes’ smallest

and most efficient car sold in the U.S. B-Class EV’s electric motor delivers the equivalent of 177 horsepower with a full and

instantaneous 251 pound-feet of torque for brisk launches and on-ramp acceleration; Mercedes says it will reach 60 mph in a

respectable 7.9 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 100 mph: it’s EPA-estimated to run for 87 miles on a charge. The

automaker says the car’s batteries can be charged to about 80 percent of its capacity in around two hours when plugged into

a 240-volt circuit. Available features include some of the latest accident-avoidance systems. It will be offered only in

California, Oregon, Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts once

it’s fully rolled out by the first half of the 2015 calendar year.

BMWi 3

The EPA’s fuel economy champ for 2015, the compact i3 comes wrapped in oddly polarizing styling

and is so much more, and in many ways less, than an electric 3 Series. It puts the equivalent of 170

horsepower to the pavement, with (as is the case with all EVs) 100 percent of the electric motor’s

torque available immediately, which makes it feel peppier than expected. Its expected range is 80-100

miles on a charge, which can be accomplished in as little as six hours depending on the type of

charger and electrical supply. An optional DC Combo Fast Charger is capable of restoring the

battery to 80 percent capacity in about 30 minutes when connected to a Level 2 public charging

station. This is also the only EV to offer an optional extended range gasoline engine to run the

electric motor once the car’s lithium-ion battery is depleted, though a tiny gas tank means frequent

full-ups to keep going indefinitely. MSRP: $41.350.

KIA SOUL EV

125/92 e-mpg city/highway. New for 2015, this is the all-electric version of Kia’s uniquely angular compact hatchback. It delivers an EPA estimated 93 miles of operating range and takes five hours to charge when connected to a 240-volt outlet, and twice as long with 110-volt current; a quick-charging port is included. The Soul Electric is sold only in California (and at that via only 17 dealerships thus far).

Quite insightful.

Untainted007:

You are very correct my brother. I bought a 2013 Hyundai Elantra in December 2013 at the rate of 3.6m which till date has no issue only for me to change the break pad after a year and do my normal service. Although, I did the first 3 free services at Hyundai Service centre but presently using Mobil 1 to service the car not anymore with Hyundai Service Centre. In my first comment I chose Camry because I prefer it to the Kia Rio; had it been the comparism is between the Camry and Kia Optima; I would have preferred the Optima to the used camry. Any which way, any one of the 2 cars is atleast better than not having any one.

Leeman0007:
Kia, you got to be kidding me.

If you plan to drive the car for 10 years then fine. For me i try to use a car for maximum 3 years. I have used a kia cerato in the past. 2008 kia cerato i bought brand new. I ended up selling the car with begging o for 450K in 2013. Nobody wants to buy it. No second hand value. Parts are expensive. In 2012, my friend bought a 1997 camry, tiny light, he just sold the car for 650k. See that comparison.....

Even at the service centres, parts are freaking expensive, my KIA ac got bad sometime and I asked kia to look at it, the said the compressor was bad and said it would cost 180k for another compressor. Madness. Even the KIA ac is generally poor. If you serviced your KIA for 7 years at KIA, take a break and find out how much you have spent in total on the servicing of that car in 7 years.

With Tokunbo cars ok, get it right and you are could be fine for 4 years with no major issues. And what I mean with getting it right is run a VIN, which i always do, Make sure the vehicle is not accidented, make sure the mileage has not been rolled back, make sure you get one with a low mileage and I tell you, you would be better off than a brand new KIA.

Another bit you need to understand is the KIAs we get in Nigeria are of a lower spec than those sold in the states. This is a a FACT. Eg my 2008 cerato had only one airbag. That same cerato in the states is equipped with at least 6.

Then for luxury, you can't even compare the quality of leather in the KIA to that in the camry. NO COMPARISON. Even the 2014 cerato that KIA nigeria sells is not leather. It has reverse camera, steering buttons, usb, front and back sensors, shikena. Its good to drive simply because its brand new. Nothing else.

I leave you with this question. If you buy a kia 2014 cerato now at maybe 4. summit million and I buy a 2011 camry tokunbo at 3.7 million and we both use these cars for 4 years, no scratches no accidents, which car do you think will provide more money if I intend to sell after 4 years.

I have been using a lexus rx for 3yrs now and let me tell you, I only service every 6months with Mobil 1. That is all I have done plus change break pads as and when due.. sincerely speaking, no breakdowns nothing. Simply because I bought right. The leather is still in tact.

Look KIA, HYUNDAI makes loads of money from after sales and thats the kill. They tell you if you don't service with them you break your warranty. Nobody wants to break warranty so they go on servicing with them at least for the first few years. Do you even know what type of oil they pour into your car when they service, No because you get there, they take your car in and do the serving behind closed doors while you wait and have tea or coffee somewhere.
