Art, Graphics & Video / Ondo Ready To Develop Potential Talents by ayfay047(f): 9:17am On Feb 01, 2019 |
Ondo State Government has reiterated its determination to harness and develop talents inherent in indigenous artists based in the state. Speaking while playing host to the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Producers Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), Ondo State chapter in Akure, the state capital, the state commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr. Yemi Olowolabi said the present administration in the state is poised to develop local contents so that talents could be identified for the lucrative entertainment industry. According to him, “the state government, under the leadership of Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu is willing and ready to support home grown talents for the development of the state through creative art” He added that the support given to artists who are currently working on a production titled “dansaki” in the state was one of the mandate of the ministry to support and promote Ondo State based artists. Mr. Olowolabi also used the forum to laud the effort of the producer of the film, Mr. Ojo Ogundoju of the O.J plus one media for his productivity and expertise in production of the movie. It would be recalled that the ministry organised sensitisation programme for artists, entertainers films and video practitioners in 2018, where the government pledged to support Ondo State based artists to develop the entertainment industry and to establish a film office in the state ministry of information and orientation. The establishment of the film office aimed at creating an enabling environment for the entertainment industry to thrive in the state, where artists and movie producers can shoot their movies by making use of the many beautiful locations available in the state. Speaking earlier, the leader of the team, Mr. Tope Faturoti appreciated the state government through the ministry of information and orientation for assisting them with equipment needed for the shooting of the movie. Mr. Faturoti noted that the ministry supported them with modern cameras, location vehicle and other logistics that were needed for the production of film. He added that the gesture by the present government was first of its kind in the state since the creation of the state over four decades ago, noting that it would encourage them put in their best. The actor also stated that the support they received from the ministry shows that the present admiration has confidence in artists based in the state unlike what obtained in the past when government patronised artists outside the state. He, therefore promised that the association would support the state government at achieving the desired goals in tapping and developing home based talents, which he said would go a long way in showcasing the state to the outside world. Politics / Onnoghen: Appeal Court Vindicates Buhari by ayfay047(f): 9:00am On Feb 01, 2019 |
The ruling of the Court of Appeal that the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen face trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) is a vindication of President Muhammadu Buhari. The Buhari Media Organisation (BMO) has said that the ruling vindicated the suspension of the CJN. The group said in a statement signed by Niyi Akinsiju and Cassidy Madueke, its Chairman and Secretary respectively. The group stated that the ruling by the Appeal Court re-affirmed the fact that Justice Onnoghen has a serious matter to answer to, and that the Tribunal has the powers to entertain that matter rightly, and as such also has the power to make an order for his suspension pending the conclusion of the matter. The group also noted that the ruling of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Abdul Aboki, further affirms that: “the call by Paul Usoro (SAN), chairman of the NBA that the courts be boycotted showed that the man who heads the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) lacks an understanding of basic principles of the rule of law and does not appreciate the issue of jurisdiction of courts to matters. “We also commend the various NBA branches that did not heed the senseless call for a boycott, but went ahead to attend court sessions and honour their clients and the temple of justice. “This also shows that Paul Usoro has lost his credibility in the NBA due to his proclivity to defend corruption and stand for what is wrong – a characteristic that should not be synonymous with the Nigerian Bar Association.” The BMO also called on the NBA Chairman to recuse himself from membership of the National Judicial Council(NJC), stating that a man who is facing serious allegations of corruption with the EFCC should not be found deciding the fate of people with similar moral burdens. The statement noted that the NBA Chairman had also brought disrepute to the association, stating that the NBA was becoming an institution of ridicule because of the tainted leadership of Paul Usoro. “This should not be so as the association is made up of thousands of members with honour and integrity who should not be identified with corruption”. The group noted that Paul Usoro was now also using the NBA as a tool to fight the institutions fighting corruption. “Paul Usoro, a man facing serious allegations of corruption in the court is now using the Nigerian Bar Association to fight the institutions constitutionally mandated to fight corruption, including the courts. “His kangaroo instruction to legal practitioners to boycott the courts was not just embarrassing and unfortunate; it was a mockery and an insult to the legal profession. Asides the fact that lawyers owe it as a duty to represent their clients in courts, they are not meant to insult their practice and the temples of justice by boycotting the courts.” The group noted that the call for a boycott of courts by Paul Usoro was indeed corruption fighting back. The group stated that Paul Usoro already had a damaged reputation, and lacked moral authority to lead the Nigerian Bar Association, stating that his leadership was bringing the association to disrepute. Politics / FG To Dualize Akure-ondo Road - Vice President Osinbajo by ayfay047(f): 2:59pm On Jan 30, 2019 |
The Federal Government is set to dualise Akure-Ondo-Ore highway to boost economic activities of Ondo state. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo disclosed this at the palace of Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo as part of activities for his two days official visit to the state. According to Osinbajo, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari will also ensure that the proposed upgrading of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo to a federal University become a reality soon. Professor Osinbajo pointed out that he would personally do everything possible to make the college a university of education since the national assembly had passed the enabling act. According to the Vice President, the college established as the first College of education in Nigeria over 50 years ago is long overdue to be upgraded. Osinbajo said that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration had spent a total of N2.7 trillion on infrastructural development since assumption of office, stressing that the Federal Government was committed to ensuring that money belonging to Nigerians are not stolen but used for nation building. The Vice President further hinted that the country was earning 60 per cent less than what it was earning in the past 16 years, adding that despite this low earning, the current administration had spent fund that could be the highest ever on infrastructure such as roads and railway modern in the country. The Vice President said, “Today, N2.7trillion is what we are spending on infrastructural development. The question we ought to ask the opposition people who were in office for 16years is, What did they do with the money if today we are still reconstructing Lagos-Ibadan expressway. We are building Lagos -Ibadan rail project which will be commissioned in few days time”. “If we get your mandate again by God’s grace, we will continue to work against corruption that is affecting our country, we will build more infrastructure”. Health / Ondo State Govt Seeks Stakeholders’ Assistance In Tackling Lassa Fever by ayfay047(f): 10:45am On Jan 30, 2019 |
In its effort to tackle Lassa Fever headlong, the Ondo State Government has sought the assistance of stakeholders. The Commissioner for Health, Dr Wahab Adegbenro sought this assistance at an emergency stakeholders meeting held in Akure. According to him, Lassa Fever is now endemic in the state and it calls for serious combined effort of stakeholders as the state cannot bear the burden alone. He disclosed that the treatment of a Lassa patient costs at least N1.2m which he said is beyond what the State Government alone can handle considering the number of people infected. Hence he has called on Chairmen of affected Local Government Areas, security agencies, development Partners and other stakeholders to brainstorm and come up with strategies to tackle it and put it permanently at bay. The Health Commissioner who disclosed that the Emergency Operating Center (EOC) was inaugurated the previous day and an Epidemiologist appointment, commended the National Center for Disease Control and other Development Partner for their efforts at putting the outbreak under control. Adegbenro appealed to security agencies to ensure people adhere to rulers and regulations of operations as rights of individuals are suspended during outbreak. He called on residents of the state to maintain personal and environmental hygiene, keep their foods covered in containers, eliminate rats around them and visit the hospital immediately they notice any feverish condition. The Health Commissioner enjoined Health Workers to embrace universal protection and take serious precaution when attending to patients so that they do not become victims. Presenting a situation report, the State Epidemiologist, Dr Stephen Fagbemi said there was a war against Lassa Fever and the state should be in a war mood. He recalled that about 27 States were affected with Lassa last year and Ondo and Edo topped the list as they accounted for about 80 percent of those affected including mortality. Dr Fagbemi also notified the house that while the state is still grappling with the issue of Lassa, there is also out break of Yellow Fever in the state. Dr Olalekan Ojo of the Federal Medical Center Owo said the State is seeing more Lassa patients than any other states of the federation and the whole budget of the state cannot cover the eradication of the disease. The Team Lead National Center for Disease Control, Dr Gbenga Akinbiyi said due to the deadly nature of Lassa, it needs the combined concerted efforts of stakeholders while promising the support of NCDC to curtail the outbreak. The Chairman Akoko S/W, Mr Oloruntegbe Augustine who spoke on behalf of other local government chairmen promised that he and his colleagues would explore all avenues to get funds to support the fight, ensure environmental sanitation and carry out sensitisation in their domains. The State Chairman Nigeria Medical Association, Dr Olawale Oke commiserated with families of those who lost their relatives to Lassa, urging the government to declare a state of emergency in the health sector. The General Manager Waste Management Board, Mrs Bola Akinyanmi complained that most Local government areas do not have dumpsite making waste disposal in those areas difficult and embarrassing. The Acting Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr Dipo Durojaye lent his voice to solving the problem of waste disposal and change of attitude of our people. The information industry and environment should be at the forefront of the campaign. Politics / Why Buhari Met With APC Senators — Oshiomhole by ayfay047(f): 9:51am On Jan 30, 2019 |
National Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, has said President Muhammadu Buhari hosted to a dinner senators elected on the platform of the party, Monday night, to strategise on next month’s elections, with a view to ensuring victory at the polls. Oshiomhole, who gave this explanation in an interview with State House correspendents after the dinner, said event had provided an opportunity for the President to meet with the caucus of the Senate and the “incoming senators” (APC senatorial candidates). He expressed the hope that Nigerians would give APC a comfortable majority in the Senate and House of Representatives, based on the tenet of “one-man, one-vote.” He said: “Basically, the meeting was for the President to meet with the caucus of the Senate and the incoming senators by the grace of God. “The whole idea is for the President to have direct interaction with the senators and the senatorial candidates of the APC so that they will work hard and ensure that on the basis of one-man, one-vote, the outcome of the 2019 elections will be in our favour. “This is an opportunity for some of the senatorial candidates to meet with the President for the first time.” According to him, the meeting also enabled the President and the senators and party’s senatorial candidates the opportunity to compare and share notes on the campaigns of each of the senatorial districts. On the reactions of the international community to the suspension of Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen, Oshiohmole dismissed any form of foreign outcry against the action taken on CJN’s case, saying Nigeria is not a colony. He said Nigerians must defend the supremacy of the country, adding that corrupt justices were being prosecuted across the world. Also speaking on the suspension of the CJN, Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan, said it was wrong for the Senate to reconvene over the matter as there were many cases in courts challenging or supporting the suspension. He, however, stated that the Senate could reconvene to consider the 2019 budget proposal and Medium-Term Expenditure Framework, MTEF, and Fiscal Strategic Paper. Politics / Managing Director of NDDC express that Buhari Loves Niger Delta by ayfay047(f): 11:45am On Jan 29, 2019 |
ACTING Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Prof. Nelson Brambaifa has said President Muhammadu Buhari loves Niger Delta. Brambaifa, who spoke at the inaugural meeting of the new NDDC management in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, confirmed the Federal Government was refunding over N1.3 trillion owed the commission. He said the management was a response to discontent over the government’s non-commitment to Niger Delta. The NDDC chief said the Niger Delta had suffered, but the President was taking action to redress the situation. Brambaifa reiterated that President Buhari had ensured the Federal Government met its statutory financial obligations to the commission in full. He hinted that the President also ensured that other statutory contributors met their obligations, noting that the President worked to restore peace and security in Niger Delta by tackling grievances. Brambaifa said the appointment was another step to give hope to Niger Delta people and restore their confidence and faith he would rebuild the region. He pledged to respect and implement the commission’s mandate, which, according to him, would facilitate the development of Niger Delta into a region to be socially stable, economically prosperous, politically peaceful and ecologically regenerative. The Bayelsa First Initiative (BFI) has praised the President for appointing Prof Brambaifa as the acting managing director of NDDC. A statement by the group’s Secretary, Mekunisi Aworabi, described the appointment as a right step based on Brambaifa’s experience and background as an academic and former representative of Bayelsa State in the last board. Aworabi thanked Buhari for sustaining the rotational principle in the appointment of chief executives for the commission in line with the NDDC Act. He hoped Brambaifa would bring his experience in academia and management to bear in the commission’s leadership. Aworabi condemned reported moves by aggrieved Bayelsans to petition President Buhari on the appointment, saying such acts would only lead to Ijaw disunity and self-destruction.
