Brein, I agree with you put let us all speak with one voice against the government and the political and traditional rulers who have all failed to deliver to their people (MEND inclusive). PLEASE: CAN SOMEONE TELL ME: where in Nigeria has the federal government ever come to develop? It is up to the state government to fight funds to do specific projects and communities/ traditional rulers to rally their indigenes to invest. Do you think that even if they double their monthly allocation it will not change the plight of the suffering people b/c the problem is within and not from the federal government. The money from the bunkering where does it go? If MEND love their people so much why don’t they help them by developing schools business and roads? The government needs to settle issues of royalties but what about their leaders? Even if they get the money can they manage it and use it to improve the life of citizens? Two wrongs do not make a right – the biggest problem is within the south south !!!! |

But let it be on record that it was said : “another group of boys will immerge very shortly and they will demand their share of the oil money as MEND is doing to put down arms. Even if the government pulls out and leave the oil wells that are in the area. I can tell you that the area will still not develop. Until people start to give their chairmen, senators and governors public flogging and in some cases where it is really bad hang the bastard. Will things change in the Niger Delta. Citizens in the Niger Delta area will continue to suffer and the suffering will get worse over the years to come. I see Somalia developing within that part of Nigeria. People need to take their destiny in their hands and ask question. MEND is not fighting for anyone but the money they can get in their pocket and the politicians past and present sponsoring them (we know their names but know need to mention even past governors). Yes there are issues for the government to resolve, but we do not have a government in Nigeria so people need to do things themselves. How much investment has MEND, the governor, commissioner for investment brought into the states in the area? What do they do with their allocation? PLEASE!!! PLEASE!!! SHINE YOUR EYE!!!! It is easy to go to Abuja and demand Royalties, but what have you own people in government done for you? First deal with your own people and then we will know that you are serious. OBJ was the one who knew how to deal with you guys (even though I am not a fan of OBJ). Government needs to develop the Niger Delta but not with a gun held to it head or having to first pay some hoodlum’s called MEND money. Please put sentiments aside before replying me there is a problem within and not from the federal government. We agree the federal government has it own blames but the people you guys should be fighting should be MEND because they are having a free lunch off the back of law abiding citizens. |

Hello If we are so stupid and greedy as to take our money abroad, please give me one reason why the oyinbo should not accept it? Who is mad, the man stealing from his own economy and investing in another man’s economy or the man who is investing money brought to him? If you do not clean your house, do not expect anyone else to do it for you. This topic is a none-starter Bros!!! The country wa the money da come from, them citizens no get mouth to cry out ? Or are we waiting for the Oyinbo to come and fight our corner? Let us take our Destin’s in our own hands and start confronting politicians and if need be give jungle justice. What happened in Ghana needs to happen in Nigeria. |

knowall, This might not happening b/c everyone around me is waiting ,for God to fight their corner. I do not think or suggest that the white man is better than us but they have the know-how and organisation which we lack. I am in Lagos seeing things first hand - the majority are suffering while the minority are living like kings on public money. The Governor in Lagos state is doing a lot but how much can one man do? I think at this stage it is time to close this chapter. THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTED. |

Hello Beaf I am ready for positive change after what i have seen on ground. Please leave me a contract e-mail and as soon as i am in London i will contact you. Time for like minds to come together to give it our last try. It is now time for all meaning Nigerians in Europe to stand shoulder to shoulder in order to jointly look for ways in which we can do anything no matter how small. Beaf has come up with an idea and I think it is an option which we should explore. E-mailing one another on Nairaland will not solve the problem. People have made it expressly clear that we do not want the white man back, so we need to look for ways in which we can stop the white man from coming back – this is not a money making venture and anyone nurturing such ideas should please stay away from this forum. It is about like mind professionals coming together to influence government policy and actually making a difference back home. I have a thousand and one ideas but finding like mind professionals has always being a problem. The future is now and we need to ask fast. One love |

Politics / Re: Is It Time To Invite Our Colonial Masters To Return? by Bariga1(f): 10:22am On Jul 25, 2009 |
Hello brothers and sisters, I have just finished charging me laptop since yesterday. I respect all the issues/comments raised but I still need to be convinced as to the viable alternative (something that can work straight away within this country). My eyes have seen!!!, within the three days that I have being here and I still have 9 days to go. There are positive things in Nigeria, such as nice eating joints powered by generator, nice cars (even those that I have not seen in London) but who can afford them? Labour is cheap over here, but is that something to be happy about?? I am a frustrated Nigerian and what I see is scary because people have adopted the ills within their environment as a way of life and are indifferent to thing falling apart beside them. With all due respect it is easy for you to sit in your arm chairs abroad and pontificate using big grammar. I did not sleep well because of the churches shouting and clapping all night. They finished at 3.00am and 4.30 am the mosque took over (they both used microphones). I asked if this area has a chairman? They said that they have one but only visits residents at election time. I then asked my parents why they voted for him? They informed me that no one voted him he voted himself to the position (with a sign of resignation). My next question was why not complain to government? The answer: which government? Who told you we have a government in Nigeria, everybody does things for themselves in this country (as they laugh). The essence of those comments above is to show the level of decadence that now pervades our country. White man will treat us as slaves is the argument we keep hearing, but are we not being treated as slaves already? Is it not the railway that those white men left that we are still using? Have improved on it? What has developed since the white man left accept for corruption. Things are getting worse and people are putting pride before the fall. We all know that with the current state of things Nigeria is still going to degenerate to some country like Somalia or Rwanda, but how can we stop it happing (the first signs are what we are seeing in the Niger Delta, but things are going to get worse and not better) How can we stop this from happening? PLEASE I BEG OF YOU!!!!! Let us be objective and read between the lines before posting comments: I am not advocating colonialism as it took place in the past but maybe lease majo facilities to the white man such as electricity, transportation and resources with a clause IN THE CONTRACVT WHICH stipulates that they have to employ, train and undertake knowledge transfer to Nigerians. At least tribalism will not be an issue if it a white man that is selecting people. Some say we should look within for solutions. We know the problem and we know what can solve our problems, but will those greedy politicians give anyone a chance? “some people” are very happy with the current system and those who are less privileged have turned to family members who are rich, churches and mosques for at least “hope” so everyone is comfortable with the system. All I hear is that God will save our country. Show me one country that God has come down to save? We need to take the bull by the horn and leave God out of this. It is like when you marry a new wife you do not leave her to God to make her pregnant. Revolution is the next option, but with the current level of decadence in Nigeria, those who are in government will do anything to stay even if it means killing half of Nigerians – also Nigerians are scared of death. No guarantee that those that will seize power will be any better. I respect everything said but please tell me AN ALTERNATIVE THAT IS PRACTICAL and How IT WILL WORK INSTEAD OF COLONIAL MASTERS COMING BACK. |

If you do not have please do not contribute let us get on with things. Religous my yanch!!! say that to the dog. Ideas Please the heat is killing me out here no a/c over here. the smell is not making it any easier for me to cope. I know when the white man arrives these things will be a thing of the past. Churches will be asked to account for their money and pay tax and then most pastors will not be interested. Half of our problems solved. Education will be restored to it's former Glory, when teachers were teachers and not traders. Ten years no electricity, every goverment keeps promising us, I know these white people will find a way out. if they can solve these three problems. leave the rest to Nigerian I think we might be able to handle the rest. what do you think |

Ikeyman, It is easy to talk big English on your armchair in UK CHOPPING THE WHITE MANS BURGER AND CHIPS, come home and enjoy suffer-head like I am doing. Nothing constructive or objective on the way forward. Do you have even an idea of the level of suffering here? You said that allow decent people to rule Nigeria. You think these thieves in politics will give an intelligent person with a vision a chance to rule? Wake up from your slumber. We need something urgent to happen which will shake Nigerians and they will know that it is a new dawn for Nigeria. Forget God for now and talk objectively about the way forward "God helps those who help themselves – if God has not deemed it fit to kill all those that are stealing billons daily I see no reason why he will complain if the White man comes back. There is Smoke in the sky everywhere, roads dirty, cutters are dirty and smelling and when you ask people they laugh and say “that is Nigeria for you, God will save us one day” listen even Satan will be scared to come close to Nigeria in it’s current state. Light came for ten minutes and then went, when it came people were shouting that light has come, as if they do not pay for it. Please read what I have written all along before you talk, please do not talk for the sake of it. I could come and stay in a hotel for the three weeks that i am here and then go back, but i have chosen to stay i nthe heart of Bariga Akinola street and i am seeing the suffering of my fellowbrothers and sisters. These people need help fast, what have you got to help i have stated my idea what is yours no God approach!!! By the way the Inspector General of Police said Radio this morning that the Bank owes his wife 250 million dollars and the case is in court (bros!!! define colonial master - please make u know allow me make i do you strong thing with the talk wa you dey talk this morning Ikeyman). |

There we go again!!! someone starts with “God will one day help Nigeria out of it’s problems” show me one country that God has physically come to safe. Cut out the fantasy and face the reality on the ground. What greater colonialism can Nigeria get than we are currently getting? Look at the way Nigerians treat drivers, cooks and wash men? Who pays the minimum wage? See how police treat we that do not know people in power? See the life that our senators and chairmen in power live, is that not colonialism. Please shine your eye well!!! well !!!! I know that because I am a lady people tend to dismiss my suggestions but please be creative and provide alternatives. If you are picking crumbs from the table of the politicians you willadamantly disagree with me about the white man coming back. But put sentiments aside, and have a look at the reality on the ground. Regardless of what we write the government has realised the urgency in the need for Oyinbo’s to return that is why the governor of central bank has now stated that he is in support of western banks buying and getting involved in mergers and acquisition. Nigerians will continue to suffer as long as we keep running from the truth. It is easy to dismiss my idea but what is the alternative to this? Which country has got it right in Africa, I will say South Africa and it is not surely ANC that built that country to the stage that it is today. I respect Mandela who stated after his return from prison that “we need these white people to teach us how things are done and how to develop”. Maybe we need to lease the country to them for twenty years (listen things can not be any worse than it is right now) and then we assess the situation at the end of lease. The condition that will come with the lease is that Nigerians most be shown how things are done. Listen thirty years down the line we will still be complaining if we do not let these people come back. The son’s of our former leaders are getting ready to take over power, not b/c they know what to do but because it is their birthright, yes I say birthright regardless of if they have an idea how things are done. We hear of huge sums being stolen and we say “only God will save Nigeria” As long as Nigerians are ruling Nigeria, even God knows that there is no hope. I am compiling a list of signatures of those who are begging for the white man to please come back and safe us from this suffering as soon as i get back, this suffering is too much. How much more can we take of this suffering, please stop waiting for God b/c he will not come in your life time. Nothing seems to work I am currently in Nigeria as I write and there is no light, water, roads or security and you say the white man will exploit us, of what? We must be mad to think this way. The resources we do not see in the first place it goes straight into the hands of a few. The alternative is revolution, but it is the son’s and daughters of these same corrupt people that come back to take over power or become back seat drivers of the affairs of this country. I left this country 10 years ago and back for the first time and can not believe the level of degeneration!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I rest my case. |

Yuno, With all due respect I take onboard everything you said in your mail: but disagree with you for the following reasons: • You mentioned own economic interest – but if you are old enough, you will know that things were functioning well as of the time that they were in Nigeria. Even if they were taking our resources abroad. Tell me one area that has developed since they left apart from corruption? Ikoyi, Little Road Yaba, Apapa and Ikeja are some of the areas which they developed and we still see as the pride of Nigeria today. Ordinary Lekki the Government has failed to make headway regarding drainage and roads. With the level of development and awareness that we have now we will be able to monitor them better if they should come back. • We need them to come back and teach us how things are done properly. Yuno, stop hiding your head in the sand and face the problems like a man everything is collapsing in Nigeria and people talk about qualifies graduates my foot, we do not know and we need someone to teach us. • You mentioned a number of countries with good government, but most of these countries are the handwork of these people. • Pride comes before the fall of a man – you said they do not understand the system in Africa, what about we that understand the system have we impacted on the country. • Please give me cogent reasons why we do not need the white man and balance it with the arguments in support and see which way thing sway. |

Hello All, I think it is time that we beg the while man to come back and show us how it is done in Nigeria? Everyday we hear stories of woe and the rich stealing more money. The standard of living is falling, economy in crisis, MEND threatening to blow the source of revenue within Nigeria if their demands are not met (even though we know that they are fighting for their own selfish interest, if not what have they done to their governor, chairmen and counsellors who collect revenue and squander it/or share it with MEND), OPC in Lagos are ranting, Secondary school strike everywhere in Nigeria and university lecturers are on strike too. What is functioning properly in Nigeria? Electricity, water, security are a thing of the past. But corruption and the PDP party is going strong? Should we just beg our former colonial masters to come back, thing can not be worse than it is now? What are your views |

I was speaking to a police officer in Court this morning (in UK) who informed me that he had just come back from Japan where he went for a joint training exercise with their police. He managed to slip-in that in Japan Nigerians are given the police problems because of the level of drug dealing and the number of Nigerians in prison in Tokyo but can not be deported because they are married to Japanese girls. I laughed at the whole story because I know that I am not a criminal and I have every reason to be proud of my achievements and profession. The moral of the story is that everyone can not be painted with the same brush because of a little group of deviants within the society. Youruba’s have their share of problems, but so do Ibo’s and Northerners. Please let us live with one love as Nigerians. Instead of us to fight one another let us direct that anger at fighting those that are stealing in politics such as our LA chairmen, counsellors, commissioners and senators. Many Thanks |
Politics / Re: Ijawman says he's Yoruba ! by Bariga1(f): 11:16am On Jul 15, 2009 |
I will not be surprised if we later find out that he is part of the terrorist group (fighting for their own selfish interest) parading themselves as Mend. He has an aggressive mode of conveying his message across. Might be a low self esteem, or lack of basic understanding of the English language. Every society has their share of miscreants, so to label Yoruba’s as problematic shows his level of thinking, please do not blame him rather feel sorry for Nigeria because this shows the work we have ahead in order to change things for the better. The whole aim of this site is to have intelligent discussions and not a place to display levels of ignorance. Respecting other people’s views is the ethos of my story. Many Thanks |

Hello Chinesedoll, Thanks for those words of wisdom, we are living in denial of the fact and then we start chasing shadow. People who lay down their lives for the country never get awards – how do you expect the “rear policemen” that risks his life daily to tackle crime (I know there are not many police men that do it, but they are a few). Adebayo talks bull… and cajoles his follows. What he does in the western world is called psychotherapy no more no less “giving Nigerians hope and asking them to wait for rewards in heaven as if he has visited heaven. Man of God they call Adebayor, but how have they arrived at this conclusion? We need to wake-up to the fact that a pastor’s place is in the church and he is not any different from me and you. Everyone knows how rich this man is? And what has he and his God done for Nigeria? The devil-worshipers in London have done more than Adebayo and his congregation for the development of their country and in assisting Africans, that is what I know as person of god regardless of the label. They fight injustice and speak out against things they do not like within the society. One word of advice for pastors in Nigeria: start speaking out against corruption and injustice and ask your congregation to fight it in what ever form they can. Not to just collect offering and live large!!!! Stop placing emphasis on heaven when you have not solved the problem at hand. |

Ladies and gentlemen this is a wise move by the fat cats in Abuja to solve their personal problems of cash flow (foreign currency). We all know that the people who gave the money/ loan will be the same ones to execute the contract and get nothing done. Walk away smiling and the politicians will think “they have pulled a fast one again” but little do they know about the fact that their grand and great grand children will suffer and anguish for their misdoings within that country When Nigerian are chased to the wall, instead of fighting back, we either start calling Jesus/ God or break the fence and run (the easy way out) I am guilty of this too. But something radical needs to happen within that country for there to be positive change. Such as all the former presidents killed, colonial masters come back (it can not be any worse than it is now if they come back). Mr President might have good plans for the country, but the people around him are too fast for him to monitor. |

Beaf, you fit go back to Nigeria in search of the "true happiness" which u spoke about. I can assure u that the Queen will not miss you regardless of your skills, even there will be one more job for people to apply for (that is if you are not currently on benefit and if that is the case one less peron for the state to care for). Where u see true happiness? for Oshodi or Yaba or Marina? if you said that in the mist of poverty people are tryiing to keep themselves happy, i go agree. I was in Nigeria about two weeks ago and i did not see happiness, rather it was hungry faces. There are a few fat cats living on government money, but how many? I understand u, the grass is always greener on the other side!!! go and spend two months and then come back to the UK, u go respect this country. If NEPA and police show you on the same day then later the same night serious rain fall wa flood everywhere. nobody will tell you to run for dare life!!!! |

Politics / Re: Is Nigeria A Failed Nation ? by Bariga1(f): 2:15pm On Jun 11, 2009 |
My humble opinion is that Nigeria either needs a revolution (we start all over again because we have missed the plot this time), a set of conscientious young military boys who will kill all those past leaders and imbibe fear of breaking the law into Nigerians (they must be people who are ready to kill their own family if that is what it takes) or the colonial masters comes back and rule us again. It might sound crude!!!! But it is the truth, we are not ready for DEMOCRACY YET, people see it as an easy way to make money. Within the last ten years, has things become better or worse for the common man? Nigerians are currently hoping against hope that God will change things and the churches are helping them pander to such madness. Why is it that when Nigerians come over here in London, they are able to build their career and contribute to the economy? What happened to the former EFCC Chairman that was fingering thieves in high places? Do you think that people get to power because of their intellect and ability to rule? Na yam to become president for Nigeria? What happened to the lady of dignity who came to take the post of finance minister? Regardless of who is president, the problem will still continue because the few people ruling the country have created a structure for themselves which first needs to be broken down before the country can move forward. Ten years time we will still be talking no action if none of my recommendations are taken on board. I rest my case!!!! |
