Thank you Oga Basalt for making out time to respond to questions here, God bless u my brother. Please I'm done with MSc here in Naija, how easy is it gaining a PhD admission in biotechnology over there? Please advice me on good universities and cities with better offers. Thank you my fellow Lion from UNN

Well try your luck bro.
No harm in trial but it is extremely hard to gain admission from Nigeria unless you have a very high GPA in your masters, even at that it's still very difficult. Germans see PhD as job and you even get paid while you research

Travel / Re: Poland Or Germany Or Canada, Which One's Best? by Basalt(m): 7:03am On Jun 08, 2021
PertinentAyo:
Hi guys, I'm seeking undergraduate admission in Canada, but since I have no sponsors, I've been advised to try Germany or Poland.

Please if you are in any of these countries, speak up. How easy is it to get jobs, what physical experience am I missing? Which country will you advice me to go for?

Mature advice only please

Poland has low school fees, but the chances of getting good jobs to support yourself and pay your school fees is very slim. I'm cool with Poland, but I don't like that I won't be able to pay for my fees.

Germany has some free and far more cheaper tuition fees than Poland. Also, there are better chances to get good jobs. I don't like Germany though.

For the both above, you are allowed to stay after your studies for a while and you can get their residency card easily.

Canadian schools are more expensive, but there are good jobs that allow you to work and pay your tuition. I just prefer there.

Thanks in advance.
grin cheesy
You say wetin?
Good jobs to pay your school fees in Canada as a student?
It's almost impossible bro.
First of all check the number of hours you are permitted to work as a student.
Also check how much to pay for rent and food.

It's almost impossible to sponsor yourself in Canada as a student without external help and loan unless you have a scholarship or you are a bad ass programmer or professional, if you don't have a scholarship and not a professional programmer etc, FORGET IT unless you have the cash .
In Germany, you can easily do that and even save money join because of low tuition but in Canada, there school fees is not something you think of settling with Parttime jobs and still pay your rent.
Don't even think about that, you need either a sponsor, a scholarship or a big loan to take care of the tuition fees, then you work and pay your rent and foods.

OP thanks for this right up.
Please let me ask some questions...

I intend going to Germany for my master soon.(but I'm still saving)

1. I heard schools in Germany are free, how true is that.
2. If I'm to fund myself for my master, please like how much can I budget for my complete masters program.
3. Do I have guarantee of getting job as soon as I land there.
Please just tell me the basic things I need to know.
Thanks in advance

1. Yes, education in German government owned universities are free, you only need to pay some few Euros every 6 months depending on your school. They call it semester contributions which is mainly for your transportation within the city. It might even be less in some schools sef. That's free honestly.

2. If you can successfully fund your block account which is about €10,332 then you only need to burget for your flight, accommodation and small pocket money before the money will start being unblocked for you.
It depends on your pocket but I think €1000 (temporary pocket money plus accommodation) will be perfect after paying for your flight.
3. Nothing is guaranteed in Germany for you bro. You can even stay upto 6 months without working depending on the city you are heading to. When you stay that long, it means you will be living with your blocked account because no work, no income.
You can also be lucky to get a work within one month of arrival just like me,
But just note that nothing is guaranteed for you in Germany.
Absolutely nothing, not even work.

In addition to this, you have to note that before you get work in Germany as a foreign student, there are things you must do first.
1. You must first enroll in school and have enrolment certificate.
2. You must get your own registered accommodation. Getting an affordable accommodation in Germany is not easy, you have to know that.
3. You must process your resident permit and have your work permit ready.
It took me less than a month to get everything done and I was lucky to come around October when companies were actively recruiting for December prime work.

All companies in Germany will demand for these major things before giving you a job contract so everything depends on when you are able to get all these things ready.
It took some people months to get accommodation which is needed to process your resident permit and subsequently work permit.
So the faster you get them ready, the faster your chance of being eligible for employment.

I would choose Canada.
Then Germany
Then UK.
I wouldn't go to Poland for my masters, but that's just my own personal opinion.

And moreover when choosing a country for Msc also consider the acceptability rate and the financial requirements.

I think You don't have any problem getting Msc admissions.
Though some companies will prefer employing younger and skillful employees.
I'm talking about professional jobs after studies and Msc in most German public universities takes about 3 years or even more to complete

My mother advice me never to look for a rich man who is well do whenever i'm set to get married.
she said i should marry a man that we will both start our life from the foundation, according to my mum, she said it is better to suffer with man to acquire wealth, than to go for a ready made soup.

Looking at the way things are going now, do you think a woman will now stoop so low and marry a poor man that is trying to make ends meet? Although, money is not love, but why would a parent wish her daughter to marry a poor man, i am begining to see my mum as a bad mother who does'nt wish me well.
Is it advisable i follow my mothers advice? I should stay in SURULERE instead of OLORUNSOGO.

You are qualified to use that word stoop so low if you are already so high.
But in a situation where you are also low financially, then you are not stooping any low, you are marrying your kind.

Remember one thing is to wish to marry a rich man, another thing is for the rich man to wish to marry you

Ohhh, sorry for that. That method (working remotely) is actually the bomb if you want to hit big, you enjoy a low cost of living and still earn high salary.
Whenever you earn high from a place you spend low i.e income being greater than expenses by far, you make a lot of savings.

.

I really don't know about education in Turkey. I have only been there once, I landed at Instabul and connected to another flight to Germany.
Again, I don't know much about this, but the most populous foreign immigrants in Germany are Turkish. So there is a possibility but I don't know for foreigners residing in Turkey.

Na Germany get industry and money pass for entire Europe and among the top 5 countries wey get money and industry pass in the entire world. So I guess that should answer your question,
Furthermore, places like Eastern Germany are said not to have jobs like other sides. This is a rumor, I have not lived in Eastern Germany before. The minimum salary people without skills usually earn is 10 Euro per hour. This is different when you work at midnight, when you have good skills, or when you are a professional.

Travel / How To Save Millions Of Naira As A Foreign Student In Europe. by Basalt(m): 11:45am On May 24, 2021
Good morning, good afternoon, good evening to all my fellow Nigerians.
It's me Basalt, the guy that doesn't mince words, and today I will be talking about the ways foreign students who study in Europe (especially in Germany) can still save millions of naira even before finishing their studies. Believe me it is not really easy but most of our lifestyles are making it even more difficult.

1. Stay in the student hostel. The number one thing eating deep in our pocket is accommodation. I know of a friend that pays over €500 every month in accommodation alone.
Student hostels are usually subsidized for students, and you save more money when you pay less for rent.

2. Stay away from public health insurance if you are above 30yrs and you are not working a full-time job unless you have medical issues. If you are working full-time in Germany, public health insurance is compulsory. Your firm pays half and you will pay half, that is understandable but in a situation where you are not working full-time, you will pay almost €200 alone as insurance for someone who is above 30yrs old.
If you minus such a big amount, minus your rent. Wetin Remain?

3. Avoid girls that are too demanding, if you were single before coming to Germany, then date only girls that are here with you in Germany, most girls in Germany work and make their own money. So they will never be a pest to you and you will have a physical companion, not a phone companion that always calls to demand money.
What most girls will do is this.
First of all, they try to establish a relationship with you for months by chatting and asking you how you are and showing concern, then they move into the phase of milking you dry with numerous financial problems. Avoid such girls like plagues. Once they start demanding, start ignoring.

4. Stop sending money home unless for an important project or for an emergency. You can always use the excuse of being a student or Corona virus to prevent some unnecessary begging. Don't give shishi unless saving of life is involved or you are sending money to buy land , build a house etc.
If you keep sending money to everyone that demands, you will always go broke.

5. Never stay too long without working. Europe is not a place to live without working. If the semester is on, you will probably be too busy with studies to work full time, get a part-time job or a mini job to support yourself, and pay bills otherwise you will have no option than to spend the ones you saved before.

6. Stop buying expensive gadgets on loan. Buying properties on loan gives you a false illusion that you have arrived when you don't have anything.
You buy the latest iPhone on credit, you buy E-bicycle on credit, you buy big plasma TV on credit, you buy Macbook on credit, you buy a screen touch laptop on credit, some even buy a car on credit as a foreign student (though mostly not Nigerian students) .
When you buy all these things on credit, you will live a life of debt, and hardly will you make savings because you are practically working for your debts.

7. Avoid unnecessary parties and celebrations. When you organize parties for almost everything, you spend money you should have saved. Remember you are just a student, you don't have a professional job yet, you can still be kicked back to Nigeria when you fail to get a job within 18 months of graduation (God forbid).

8. Stop posting exortic pictures on facebook. People in Nigeria have that mindset that whoever goes on vacation is rich, they have the mindset that whoever enter aeroplane or even eat chicken is rich. So when you post such mouth watery pictures on facebook with nice environment coupled with your abroad induced freshness, you will create an illusion that you have arrived and you will only attract known and strange people begging in your dm. So you can avoid such disturbance by staying on a low key online.

My brother, if you are planning to come for studies, then you don't really need an agent, what you need is block account or sponsorship letter and pray to be invited for visa interview because I heard it's getting tougher now.
Please avoid anything called agents as much as you can, you don't actually need them for anything at all here unless you don't plan to come as a student, I only know about student route.
Everything that concerns your application is online and very straightforward, I did mine by myself without paying a dime to any agent, I advise you to also avoid them too.

G morning sir,
Ur very right, I agree with everything u said, but can I ask u a question? Do you think is easy for me to just come online and start asking something serious like this, I know we will live in a wicked world where no one is ready to help each other, I totally agree with you, but I trust myself when it comes to trust issues, I I'm completely feed up in life, not everything I can say on here. Maybe if u have a whatsapp no# contact

You still don't get my point. It's true that you trust yourself, that's very good. Almost everybody atleast trusts himself.
But the question is do others especially people on nairaland trust you?
Trust is earned, and you earn the trust from someone who probably knows you very well and have interacted with you before especially physically.
I'm just trying to help out by giving you some tips that worked for me and for many of my colleagues.

As for me, I have a big project in Nigeria eating up my money as I mentioned before, and I don't really have such money now.

G evening bro,

Amen IJN, I claim it, the way things is going for me, is terrible, I'm discouraged too, I don't mind to pay back with interest, if I'm being sponsored. Anyhow, I'm dying in silence, am totally depressed, Im willing to pay back with double interest as long I live this country, please help me b4 it too late for me.

Truth be told, It's very hard for someone to lend you €10345 (almost 6 million naira) for block account. In fact, put yourself in the shoe. Would you give nearly 6 million naira loan to a total stranger you met on Nairaland who you have never met in real life or know anything about €10345?
Without any form of collateral, no security, no sureties? Would you?
Many people will cry and shade crocodile tears, fall down on the ground and even vow with their life, but immediately the Money enters their hand, their mouth changes and you will need a miracle to even see them again let alone collect your money back.

Things don't work that way bro. Even many relatives sef would never try such, let's be real here.
We live in the Earth not in Jupiter, before anyone, even banks sef release such amount, there must be sureties involved, there must be a well written agreement involved, there must be collateral involved so that if you fail to live upto the agreement, the collateral will be sold immediately and the money will be recovered in excess.
Nobody jokes around with money because money is very hard to get.

Let me tell you my short story and experience during my own time perhaps you might learn one or two things from it.

I was in a similar situation with you, I had some money actually but it was not enough for my block account and I was running around begging for sponsorship from all the rich men in my village eventhough I was not a fan of begging, they all gave one reason or the other, at the end not even 1 dollar was realized.

It got to a point when the embassy even invited me for interview in Lagos still I had no complete money needed.
I later went for the interview even without any hope of completing the block account and I was given some time to send the block account confirmation.

I was almost about to lose hope before I called my sister and cried to her, she invited me over and I don't know how she and her husband did it, but they lent me the remaining block account, paid for my flight and even gave me pocket money on top.
Few months arriving here, I returned back the loan to them.

Do you know the reason why I told you this long story?
Look within you and ask for help within your immediate relations.
It's extremely hard for an outsider to trust you, ask your brothers, sisters parents, cousins, church members etc. Almost all my colleagues here were sponsored by their relatives or church members. They know you better and will trust you better.
Looking for sponsors on Nairaland is like looking for virgins in CWO meeting, you are most likely not going to see shishi . I must tell you the truth.

Hello Bro, a question on my mind please...

Considering the close proximity between France and Germany, and also considering that schengen states agreement. Is it possible for someone living in France to act as sponsor to get you into Germany?

Maybe I haven’t been asking the question right that’s why Google rarely gives the answers I’m looking for. I’ve got quite a number of people in France.

One of the requirements for someone to sponsor someone is that he must have a registered living address within Germany.
So Schengen agreement or no Schengen agreement, nearness to Germany or not, if he does not live in Germany he won't likely be allowed to sponsor someone coming to Germany.
Germany is strict about laws

Can you please talk about the SL route and possibly link me to your contact.

I don't have any SL contact. I came with block account not SL.
I can only say that it's a nice route but very risky.
The embassy still has to verify the authenticity of the SL and if they are satisfied, they will grant you a visa, if they are not, a rejection follows immediately.
Now imagine what happens when you are rejected after paying over 1million for SL and the person even refuse to give you back your money?
For your SL to be accepted, the person issuing the SL must meet the financial requirements to sponsor someone in Germany, the embassy will verify that, also the person should be a German citizen or permanent resident with a good paying job.

So it's a 50:50 thing. It works perfectly if you roll with genuine people and doesn't work if you roll with fraudsters.
If you have someone in Germany who is willing to write the letter for you free of charge, it's best.
