One thing that peddlers of stories like this don't seem to understand is that once you look at it from another angle you'd see that he's exaggerated many things and outright lied and was false in others

Let's see the first lie or - to give him benefit of doubt - exaggeration

Then, at the age of 24, I met my future wife, who turned out to be a Christian. Shocked by the discovery that this highly intelligent and beautiful woman was ‘one of them’

This is very funny but deluded Christians won't see the idiocy in that story

He's telling us that he's never seen an intelligent beautiful Christian for the first 24 years of his life till he met his future wife? He happened to go to a school where all religious people there were not intelligent, lived in a place where all religious people were not intelligent, whenever he met a religious person such a person is not intelligent

Atheists who aren't idiots already know there are lots of intelligent religious people. This shows how good his thinking ability was while he was an "atheist" so no surprise he apparently dumped his atheism for the first intelligent religious vagyna he encountered

As he rightly points out, we cannot complain about the existence of evil and suffering, and use that as an argument against the existence and goodness of God, unless we first believe that the standard of right and wrong by which we judge and condemn our world is an objective one.

No, that's wrong. Morality can exist as a subjective and still useful standard. In fact it's incoherent to call it objective.
He talks in good about how convincing he found the works of C.S. Lewis but doesn't seemed unaware of competing views - aside a mention of Ayn Rand and Bertram Russel.

Let's see the nonsense he talked about morality

The presence within us of an objective moral law ‘written on our hearts’ points instead to the existence of an eternal Goodness and Intelligence

was it written in the hearts of Sociopaths and psychopaths too? experimentation has shown how easy it is to acclimate humans to terrible morals by using authority and social conditioning.

Consequently, when God created the first human beings, He gave them the gift of free will.
Would we still have free will if cancer never existed or didn't exist? If natural diseases and disasters didn't exist? If there were no still-born babies? Why don't we lack free will from not being able to suffer even more?

Lewis didn't answer the objection, nor did this self proclaimed former atheist who's strawmanning his former self. There's a brief attempt to dismiss the problem, then lots of flowery, balderdash and bigtalk analogies about how super the Christian God is, and you should feel guilty for being so ungrateful and doubting.

This person has not addressed any explanation for why they believe in a Christian God specifically as true, just talked about how super-awesome it is and how some arguments against it's existence aren't valid. That might be true but irrelevant. What matters is what arguments for it's existence do work, and he's got nothing but parroting the same balderdash and flowery praise every religion and myth can manage.

Good morning, been a while

Hahahaha

You're trying to say he recognized God because of a woman, because of a moment of an emotional excitement or weakness. I get you grin

I understand where you driving at in all your points

About morality, personally I believe without an objective morality, most of us wouldn't be talking of subjective morality. In other words, I believe objectivity brings about subjectivity when it comes to morality.

That's why we still have rules governing us and we aren't allowed to live haphazardly simultaneously cos it will be catastrophic. There are several morals to go by but I believe we can tell the standards.

Whatever names given to people who have no moral conscience, I want to know what happens to them when they're hurt the same way they hurt others. Do they cry, plea for mercy, feel the pains or seek a quicker way of ending their suffering? If they do any of these, then there must be a conscience somewhere or the being they are made of isn't human if they laugh and smile through the evils done to them. Science should be able to prove that the human part of them has been tampered with.

The fact that it's said we're given free will doesn't mean we're all sufficient, all sovereign or all powerful, it means we're humans given the power to choose in areas within our control. In areas beyond our control, the topic of free will doesn't exist. Let's face the ones that concerns us and leave the rest to whoever or whatever it concerns.

Anyone who has been given a free will means that person has a superior. If I'm to give anyone free will, I wouldn't give anyone the power to control or overthrow me and I'm sure you'd do same. I've come to realize we have issues with the topic FREE WILL because there's a JUDGE somewhere, somehow and that doesn't go well with most of us. We hate the idea of the consequences of our actions or choices, that's why we seem not to agree with it as indeed, a FREE WILL. Ouch! That just sounds to me like we're scared of responsibilities. It shows we are irresponsible in a way.

Long time dear. I have some questions for you but let it be for some other time.

So, confronted by all these facts and arguments – philosophical, scientific, and historical – I surrendered my sword of unbelief to God, and asked Jesus to forgive my sins and come into my life during the hot, dry summer of 1976. In the years that have followed, I have never regretted that decision, despite many ups and downs and trials of my faith. Through prayer, worship, and the company of other Christians, I feel I have begun to know Jesus personally and to understand something of the breadth and height and depth of His love for me and for all His creation. If, therefore, my journey from atheism to faith has helped in any way to persuade you of the truth of Christianity, I can only hope and pray that you too will experience the joy of reconnecting with your Creator by asking Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your own life. He longs for you and is only waiting for you to make the first move.

On the other hand, if you are still unconvinced by my testimony but are willing to explore these issues further, I invite you to read I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist, by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek, (Crossway, USA, 2004). It is a very readable yet scholarly book which sets out, in massive and very interesting detail, the philosophical and scientific evidence for the existence of God, as well as the historical and archaeological evidence for the reliability and truthfulness of the New Testament. Get hold of it and see whether it can resolve your doubts or answer your objections and questions.

My name is Philip Vander Elst and I am an ex Atheist now a Christian

Vaxx this would make a great read for you

That sounds like atheists need a faith that's more than that of a Christian to become and remain an atheist.

Now, how wise is that because definitely their faith is different from ours? They're not hoping for anything, neither do they have any evidence of a "no God"

Atheism really requires more than faith. Hmmm

God help us!

I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist, by Norman L. Geisler and Frank Turek, (Crossway, USA, 2004).

I need to get hold of that book

An incredible change

From this revelation and until I got baptised, I’ve changed my relationship toward the others, my way of seeing the world and of thinking it. According to my friend Mike, even my look, so far dark and tormented, became brighter. However, this conversion has more started the beginning of my quest than its accomplishment. Willing to give a rational foundation to the experience I lived, I chose to devote my philosophical research to the link between reason and Christianism. Once my Master Degree on the evidence of God’s being in my pocket, I asked in my prayer this alternative : either I continue on the academic way or i will inform the public about the treasures of Christian thought. It was in this second direction that the Lord led me. Since there, in all the medias, I try to recall that if God gives Himself by the means of experience, He can also let Himself be discovered by the way of reason. How can we love a person indeed without trying to know who he or she is? Jesus is well alive, friends!

Oga stop taking this personal like some religious/political extremists. Football is a game not war...

How can you say super eagles CAN'T defeat a team with the world's greatest player? Then how did Croatia defeat them? Can you tell me the goals against the world's greatest player's team compared to that of the Super eagles? What about their draw with Iceland?

A team that the world's greatest player's team couldn't beat, Nigeria with the youngest team dealt with them. Talking about Iceland.

You should be the one to stop being emotional here because I have the right to go personal with you. You know why? Because you claim to represent Nigerians in the political scene especially the youth. But now you see your life?

All your posts against the Super eagles will be used against you if you ever get an important position in governance of this country.

Take correction brother and don't use the religious card against me.

If PMB should post all you've posted against super eagles, you would have been the first to cry heavens with the longest article on nairaland's frontpage.

If you plan on continuing with politics here in Nigeria, then you my friend, it is a must you root for the super eagles. Get that into your head or find yourself in Argentina and play their national politics there.

Next time, be careful with the way you appreciate the Argentines for defeating Super eagles undecided

I rest my case here.

Thank You Messi and the entire Argentina squad for keeping the hope of Argentina 3rd world cup and Messi's first alive.

Super Eagles, you played your heart but you can't defeat a team with the World Greatest Player ever.

Argentina Beating overrated France next round!

As your fan, I will say this:

You should be ashamed of yourself and henceforth stay out of Nigeria politics cos you can't be trusted.

It should now be obvious to all, reasons for your interest in politics.
