Nice one. Da truth!

Lex, perhaps youre an objective person. I feel pained when I see the shenanigans that go on here. Nigerians are a rare breed. Today someone was asking for 18 odds because he had exams this week.

WHY?

Some are asking for 1000 odds. Silly if you ask me. I wonder how many of these so called nairaland punters have ever kicked a ball before or even held a racket. If you aren't ready to crunch numbers, you wont win.

Understanding probability and finding value are the key, not accas of 0.07 odds

Pls what is Typersi? Am lost here

I wonder what you tell people who pm you. You're the alleged scammer turned hero. You say you don't know typersi? Bruh come on. You shouldnt have taken the bait.

You post typersi games with typersi odds forgetting that Alabi is stingy with odds(which I consider Alabis real crime).

I put it to you Kelechi that your picks are from typersi.

Very interesting thread and characters.

First Ifeconwaba who begs for tips, then when he thinks he has a strategy, he demands for money and when that fails, he starts begging again.

Then there are people forming champion here, getting tips from others and posting like its theirs.

Kayleychi for example is posting picks from typersi and y'all are hailing him. Typersi is open to everyone. First y'all called him a scammer and now he is your king? Funny guys!

One of the reasons you guys lose money is failure to appreciate the nature of gambling and take responsibility. Instead even those on bet9ja prefer to blame Alabi.

Use your brains, you cannot wreck Alabi, he wins in the long run because he understands probability. There is no jazz, juju or muti involved here. Simple probability is all. Nairabet is small fish compared to bet365. Is bet365 also using juju? Stop insulting and defaming an innocent man. Its not fair. He has even given advice on this issue. If I find the post I'll share it.

Now, my advice. Stick to games that have value. Bet in singles and use a system that follows the laws of probability. That's all. Also, I think tennis is better for betting as it is less volatile than football.

That's all I have to say for now.

There is 10w-40 weight spec for lubricants if thats what u want.

I understand the condensed water from the AC seem to have a higher boiling point.....

I didnt want to use the popular green coolant , and because I couldnt get the yellow coolant , I used ordinary water.

Ok thanks. I appreciate your input.

Hydraulic Fluid is any Good DOT-4 (must be DOT4, else u are on ur own)

For plugs, see below...

GPSERIES PLUG BKR5EGP NGK7090
IXIRIDIUM PLUG BKR5EIX NGK6341
STANDARD PLUG BKR5ES NGK2460
VPOWER PLUG BKR5E NGK7938

For Lubricant- Engine oil, patronize 5w-40 , 10w-40 synthetic engine oils, ..... you can contact me if you need any of these..... even in Benin city

The yellow Coolant from Havoline is the recommended one, and I have checked all d while I used mine and was unable to find.... best bet for you is to use a condensed water from the home airconditioners ... ( i.e the water that comes from the AC) its better than most coolants.

Lest I 4get.... NEVER, NEVER. I MEAN NNNNNEEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEERRRRR... allow any incompetent electrician to mess up that car by attempting to bypass any connection..

Thank you so much for your response.

I think they already bypassed the fan. The fan comes on immediately I start the car. I will have it reverted to factory settings at the end of the month.

I have seen 0w-40 (Mobil 1) and 5w-40 (Total) but I havent seen 10w-40 anywhere.

Also, in reference to the condensed water, do you mean condensed water from the AC alone, or mixed with coolant? I thought the whole idea of the coolant is to lubricate the water pump (to prevent rust) and also raise the boiling point of the water?

Thanks.

@smartchoice, yes I have been through the thread twice. Even more than. The first time I went through it, I was discouraged and on the early pages, you will see some people had the same fears.

You will admit that not all the questions I asked where resolved on the mercedes benz thread. You will also admit that the thread took well over two years to get to where it is and therefore you and other w202 users have acquired great experience in the meantime.

It is that experience I am hoping to learn from and hoping can be gathered and accumulated in one place as a resource for other newbies like me.
Im really encouraged by all of you. All Im asking for is to learn from you guys. Im new to this. Before coming to car talk, I used to be the type to go with whatever my mechanic says. Not anymore.

For instance the notorious case of thermostat removals. I know much better now. For instance, my brother bought a 2005 Rav4 from Lagos and it had to be driven to Benin. I was furious when I learnt that the thermostat was removed in Lagos. I asked him to get hold of the thermostat and fix it back but the mechanics and the guy who was to drive it down to Benin refused. As soon as the car got to Benin, we went to fix the thermostat back.

So please, dont be annoyed at my questions. They are actually helping some people.

Thanks.

Thank you for responding au.hanson.

On the issue of oil, I know all the discussions that went down on it as Ive been through the mercedes benz thread twice. I know the theoretical value of synthetic oils, but I wanted practical experience. Now that you have given me the go ahead, I will switch to mobil 1 0w-40 at the end of the month.

I also know the issue of coolant was controversial and never really settled. If I remember correctly, Trac said to avoid the green one and get something close to Zerex G05 by valvovine. The problem is that it is not readily available. Well, I guess I will go with what you are using then and change it every year or two.

I will look for Dextron III for the steering fluid, as I dont know what is in mine currently. I will do this at the end of the month as well.

Please I am looking forward to the answers to the rest of the questions when you have the time.

Thanks, you are a great man.

I'm quoting you verbatim now.

" My newbie questions. As you know, in Nigeria, OEM or manufacturer specific items may not be that easy to find hence the following questions
1) What engine oil to use. I know Mobil 1 but I have not seen any mineral oil of 0w-40, 5w-40 or even 10w-40. I know I should ordinarily use Mobil 1 0w-40 but because of the high mileage of the car 210,000, some are speculating that the oil will be too thin for the engine due to the wear and tear it must have accumulated over time and as a result, leakages will occur. Is there any truth to this or can I just go ahead and use Mobil 1 0w-40. If I cant use Mobil 1, whats the next best available oil for me to use.

2) What coolant to use? This was another controversial topic and I would like to learn from my Seniors in the W202 family what is good enough to run my baby.

3) How often to replace the coolant

4) What brake fluid to use and how often to change it?

5) What steering fluid to use and how often to change it?

6) What Automatic Transmission Fluid to use and how often to change it? (mine is a manual transmission though)

7) What spark plugs to use and how often to change them. Also, what can be used if OEM plugs cannot be found? Can autolite plugs serve as a replacement?

8 ) How often should the MAF be cleaned or changed

9) How often should the fuel filter be changed

10) How often should the throttle body/actuator be cleaned/changed.

11) What are the recommended tire sizes and PSI

12) Anything else I may have left out that is important.

PLEASE NOTE, I LIVE IN BENIN.
Thanks."

Thanks Ziccoit, I hope our seniors will share their wealth of experience with us so we can start on sure footing.

another thing I noticed, it seems our brothers from the northern part of the country have mounted pressure on this range of cars thus driving its price up.

Not only them, the Edo people too.

Seriously though, a friend of mine wanted to import the car from France. On a good day, if you have 600k, you should be able to purchase, ship and clear a clean w202. People have been doing it.. My friend wanted to bring one in but his budget of 600k was not enough because according to his person in France, the sellers said the demand for the car from Nigeria was high.

Anyway, Kuntash, could you please help me? I need to know the correct fluids and plugs to use in my newly acquired w202 C220. I stay in Benin and despite the fact that the roads are flooded with w202s, the mechanics are not very smart. Please I want to know the acceptable fluids. For instance, I know that the green coolant is bad, but I dont know which one is acceptable.

Thanks in advance.

Guddy: I just arrived Edo state yesterday and I was so baffled at the rate at which people use the w202 c class in this state. From the capital city, Benin, to all other towns, car lots and roads have a good number of this car. I made enquiries why the users like the car and they all have a couple of good things to say about the cars ranging from economy, durability, style, etc.

This is the truth. I live in Benin so I can verify what Guddy has said. In fact, I personally think that Benin is the W202 Capital of Nigeria. You can hardly take 5 steps before one will pass you on the road.

I remember some years ago when they told me the car was "cheap" (due to demand it has gotten more expensive than it used to be) and easy to maintain. Then they told me the engine was about 40k. Of course I did not believe and I said so. The guy was begging me to believe. I dismissed him and put the thought out of my mind. About two years later, I started seeing people buy the car. Gradually the city became flooded with it. Then I realized my friend had been right all along.

Please my w202 Seniors, I posted some newbie questions pertaining to proper maintenance of the C-Class .

I posted it here https://www.nairaland.com/1438869/revamping-old-car-absolute-restoration#19539518 as that thread is still on the first page and if the questions are answered, it will be easy to refer other newbies to it.

Kindly take a look and help a brother out.

I acquired a W202 C220 Salon with manual transmission. I bought it from someone else and Im trying to treat it the way its meant to be.

Thanks all.

AU Hanson,

let me start by appreciating you. It is very encouraging to find people like you who are enthusiastic and willing to share their knowledge with others.

Thank you

To the others too who have helped one way or another, Smartchoice, Eyop, Gee, Kuntash, Siena, Cretin, Ikenna, Trac, Ziccoit and several others too numerous to mention, I say thank you also. Your comments, suggestions and criticisms have been very useful to a silent observer (myself) who has learnt a lot not only from the benz thread but from CarTalk as a whole.

As my username implies, I am a first time benz owner. There has been a VBoot in my family but I barely even entered it (driven it just a couple of times). I do know that its a rugged car however.

The benz I own is a c220 w202. I bought it on October 17th this year and I wish to keep the car running smooth.

A little information might be necessary. First, I bought the car off someone who has used it for a year. I believe the car is a 1999 Model (from the papers) but then I read someone say that the 220 series was discontinued in 1997.

Secondly the mileage of the car is about 210,000km.

Third, the guy that was using the car before me was servicing it with AP Super V 20w-50. Having seen all the write-ups concerning the proper oil, this has got me worried. Im wondering whether if I switch to synthetic (Mobil 1 0w-40) it wont loosen the gunk/sludge and cause the seals to leak oil into the combustion chamber.

Fourth, the guy who had the car before me connected the fans permanently (though I think he left the thermostat in as the thermostat housing doesnt show signs of being tampered with). At the end of the month I will look for a good rewire to see if I can get the fans back to their original state.

I just wanted to introduce the car to you guys so I can be properly advised. I will ask my questions in the next post.

Thanks!
