About one hour ago, organisers of The Headies award released its 2016 list of nominees and one couldn’t help but notice that Tekno was ‘BIGLY’ missing in the list.

All he got instead is a ‘measly’ ‘Next Rated’ category.

For starters, this writer is not the biggest fan of Tekno, but he also believes hard work, hustle and consistency should not be overlooked for industry politics or beef.

As a journalist, the first thought was to find out if indeed Tekno and his team honoured the organisers call for entries about a month ago, and sources at Hip TV said to me, ‘I think they did, I’m not sure though because I’m not part of the jury‘.

The next point of call would have been to put a call through to Tekno’s record label, but his boss, Ubi Franklin is a bit of ‘ASS’ who is pissed off at the media for reporting the alleged issues he has in his one-year marriage with Lilian Esoro.
So, how did Tekno end up with just the ‘NEXT RATED’ nomination with the likes of Ycee, Mr Eazi, Aramide and Humblesmith?

The organisers of Headies explained the year under review to be between JULY 2015 – JUNE 2016 (and only songs released within this period will be eligible for nomination), the same period in which Tekno, who made his debut in 2013 with ‘Holiday’, has been at his ‘HOTTEST’.

But dates of the release of his biggest songs may have worked against him.

Tekno released the smash hit ‘Duro’ June 2015, a month before it would have been eligible for consideration by the Headies organisers. And then his next SMASH hit, ‘Pana’ was released in July 2016; a month after the window of consideration.

This clearly disqualifies any of these songs from getting nods. Tekno however did release other songs like ‘Wash’, ‘Where’ and ‘Maria’ within the period under review, but it’s been argued that these songs aren’t big enough to get him more nominations.

Therefore, should he be happy with just the ‘NEXT RATED’ nod? Clearly, it’s the biggest category at the awards and the only category with a car prize.

Given these facts, I believe he should be happy and mobilise his fans to vote for him. The award and car prize may just be his for the taking.

While he’s at it, he may also consider working on the timing of his song releases going forward and learn the science of releases. Not everything should be random.

But no doubt, Tekno has been one of the standout stars of 2016.

An auto accident involving supporters club members of Nigeria Professional Football League club Akwa United has left one dead, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The supporters club members were on their way to Port Harcourt to support their team in Saturday’s NPFL matchday 33 fixture against Enyimba at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.
The accident, Completesportsnigeria.com learnt, occurred along Uyo- Port Harcourt road.
It is latest in the series of accidents that have involved teams as well as their supporters in the Nigerian top flight this season.
Players and officials of Ikorodu United and Rivers United have been involved in auto accidents this season.

Police Withdraw From Kwankwaso’s Home

KANO – In a dramatic turn of events, the Kano police Command Tuesday evening withdrew it’s personnel barely 15 hours after siege.

Police authority in Kano are keeping sealed lips over the soft stand effort to speak with the police Commissioner, Rabiu Yusuf proved abortive .

However, Vanguard learned that the withdrawal of the police officers was sequel to complaint allegedly lodged to higher authorities by the sitting MP.

As at 6.00pm that Vanguard visited the Lugard road residence of the former Governor, it was empty devoid of bustle and hustle associated with multi-million naira Guest House.


Shortly after the withdrawal, handful of Kwankwaasiyya faithful rushed to occupy the building to celebrate their freedom.

The link roads to Kwnankwaso’s Lugard residence that were initially cordoned off have been open to free flow of traffic.

A Japanese man has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing his 12-year-old son to death because he was not studying enough for an upcoming examination, the report said on Tuesday.

Kengo Satake allegedly stabbed his son Ryota, an elementary school student, in the chest with a kitchen knife in their apartment in the central city of Nagoya on Sunday morning. The son was confirmed dead from loss of blood an hour later.

“I stabbed him as he did not study,” the 48-year-old father told police. Satake had reportedly wanted his son to pass an entrance examination for the same private junior high school in Nagoya from which he had graduated.

Japan’s “exam war” to get into prestigious schools has become increasingly intense as more and more parents push their children to take entrance examinations for reputable junior high schools.

Heavily armed policemen on Tuesday sealed one of the Kano residences of former Kano state Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The house, which is situated at Lugard Road, is a few minutes’ drive from Kano Government House.

Kwankwaso’s residence at Lodge Road also serving as headquarters of Kwankwasiyya Movement was sealed by the police over an alleged plan by the former governor to conduct mass wedding.

Confirming the sealing of the residence, the state Police commissioner, Mr. Rabiu Yusuf, said: “We have directed our men to seal the residence because of an intelligence report that there is a plan to conduct mass wedding at the house “

Rabiu spoke through the police spokesman, DSP Magaji Musa Majia.

“Police did not permit for any mass wedding at the residence, “ he added.

The Nigerian military says it has killed several Boko Haram commanders with a man believed to be the eccentric leader of the terror group, “Abubakar Shekau”, said to be fatally wounded.

The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, said in a statement on Tuesday that the feat was achieved through what he described as the most unprecedented and spectacular air raid by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

“We have just confirmed that as a result of the interdiction efforts of the NAF, some key leaders of the Boko Haram terrorists have been killed while others were fatally wounded,” he stated.

Usman said that the air interdiction took place last week Friday, August 19, 2016, while the terrorists were performing Friday rituals at Taye village, Gombale general area within Sambisa forest, Borno State.

No fewer than eight people have been burnt to death by a mob at Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara of Zamfara state as a result of alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) by a student of college.

The incident occurred on Monday when a male student alleged to have committed a blasphemy during an exchange of words with a Muslim friend, a situation which caused tension in the school.

It was also learnt that a mob had penetrated into the house where the alleged person was said to be hiding to avoid being lynched.

After they gained entrance, they set the house ablaze along with seven other persons in it. .

Police in Zamfara state confirmed the incident and imposed an indefinite curfew in the town with a view to restoring peace in the area.
