4000, why not add one more zero at the back lol.

At best it will kill a company of soldiers. A company has anywhere from a few dozen to 200 soldiers.

A weapon that could kill 4,000 soliders at once in Africa in the 1960 would have won that African country or rebel an African war.

Many of you are ignorant and just rant online

The rocket struck a fuel tanker and caused a catastrophic explosion which spread burning fuel to the other trucks transporting ordnance, explosives and other fuel trucks

Politics / Re: A Closer Look At Ogbunigwe The Weapon That Wiped Off 4,000 Soldiers In 1 Strike by BitterTruth0001: 4:04pm On Feb 04
tvafrique:
This is the story of a weapon system, manufactured by a seceding African country that wiped off over, 4,000 military personnels and over 100 vehicles in one strike in 1968 during the Nigerian Biafran Civil War.

Ogbunigwe, also known as the Ojukwu Bucket, stands as a testament to ingenuity and innovation in warfare. Developed and mass-produced by the Republic of Biafra during the Nigerian Civil War from 1967 to 1970, Ogbunigwe comprised a series of advanced weapons systems including command detonation mines, improvised explosive devices, and rocket-propelled missiles. These lethal armaments were instrumental in reshaping the dynamics of the conflict, showcasing the remarkable capabilities of indigenous weaponry.

Amidst the onset of hostilities, Biafran armed forces faced significant challenges due to a scarcity of arms and ammunition compared to their Nigerian counterparts. In response, Biafran scientists, notably from the University of Biafra (now University of Nigeria, Nsukka), spearheaded the Research and Production (R.A.P.) Agency of Biafra. Led by Colonel Ejike Obumneme Aghanya, this agency sought to bridge the gap by developing an indigenous arms industry. The result was the birth of Ogbunigwe, a formidable arsenal ranging from grenades to surface-to-surface missiles.

The effectiveness of Ogbunigwe was unparalleled. Mines and warheads boasted a lethal range of up to 800 meters, capable of devastating entire enemy companies with a single explosion. Rocket-propelled versions showcased a missile range of 8 kilometers, proving instrumental in neutralizing enemy infantry and armored vehicles alike.

Ogbunigwe's impact on the battlefield was profound. It played a pivotal role in decisive engagements such as the Abagana ambush, where Biafran forces inflicted significant losses on the Nigerian 2nd Division. Rocket missiles targeted a Nigerian convoy of about 100 vehicles and 6,000 personnels, triggering a massive explosion that decimated armored vehicles and wiping over 4,000 of the personnels, marking one of the war's deadliest single losses for the Nigerian army.

The significance of Ogbunigwe extended beyond its military prowess. It symbolized a triumph of indigenous innovation, challenging conventional perceptions of warfare and highlighting the resourcefulness of Biafran scientists and engineers. Despite the eventual outcome of the conflict, Ogbunigwe remains a testament to the resilience and ingenuity of those who sought to defend their homeland through technological innovation and strategic prowess.

It was more than 4000

The Nigerian Army 2nd Division had about 6000 personnel commanded by Murtala Mohammed .

Only about 200-300 survived

The US described the Nigerian army then as inept .

Murtala Mohammed should have been court-martialled and executed by firing squad or at least jailed for losing so much men

But only in Nigeria will such a failure remain in active duty and later go on to become head of state .

Any airport that doesn’t have ALL CERTIFICATIONS required for a complete airport is called aerodrome. Add that one to your nzogbu-nzogbu knowledge. I am unapologetic about it. No Nigerian airport has all certifications of a full-fledged airport. We only call all airports like that. It’ doesn’t mean they are airports. Even some airports abroad in developed world are aerodrome but grammatically, they are called airports. On technical terms, such airports are aerodromes.

Airport is not about long tarmac or a gigantic building, or shining floor tiles or being far from town, or because it is receiving some commercial traffic of aero planes.

I repeat: airport is about getting and updating all certifications as required by all airport certifications body
Can Airbus A380 land in your airports? So you have all signaling, communications, and other airport infrastructure equipment installed and certified by all internstional certification agencies?

Common certification for a airport clinic or firefighting equipments, your glorified airports don’t have them.

A state just mentioned it was about building an airport, you and your men were having heart attack already. When will you stop this 8tred? Is Lagos State not part of Nigeria? Can’t any state build its own aerodrome because your state has built? You feel because you have bought a Toyota Corolla I shouldn’t buy my own.

Owerri airport has more traffic than Kaduna International Airport according to FAAN statistics and even beats Kano international airport sometimes

Anambra airport received 142 flights in its first month of operations. In less than 2 months , it jumped to 376 flights . By Dec 2023 , that’s 2 years it had over 4000 flights . That’s average of 166 flights per month .

As of 2018, Asaba airport is at least competing with the likes of Jos airport

Politics / Re: Maybe CBN Should Use USD Purchase To Mop Up Excess Liquidity by BitterTruth0001: 12:56am On Feb 03
ojesymsym:
First of all, you have to look at it from the point of view of CBN trying to mop up cash as they tried to do in 2023.

For ease of conversion, let's assume that the exchange rate is 1k per USD. Your 15k USD will be 15 million. Now to access that 15k USD, you will now have to fund your enaira wallet and use it to exchange the USD. From that point forward, in the eyes of the CBN, that 15 million will be deemed to have been mopped up never to return as cash to society. To be honest, it is still hazy to me but I believe it will be the first step towards mopping up cash in a non destructive way.

Moping up excess liquidity is not a big issue . All central banks do it from time to time .

The commercial banks still have excess liquidity except CBN has asked them to not keep it in dollars. They will hold it in naira . CBN has a way of moping up naira whenever they want

This is not a big deal and it has no bearing on the demand for USD neither is it the reason why CBN struggles to meet up with dollar demand as you claimed
Politics / Re: Maybe CBN Should Use USD Purchase To Mop Up Excess Liquidity by BitterTruth0001: 12:48am On Feb 03
ojesymsym:
I am not a financial expert but I have noticed rather strangely that whatever USD amount is made available there are those with cash ready to buy them up. That is why CBN has been struggling to manage the high exchange rate situation.

So rather than try to fight a trend of this type, the CBN can try to turn things around such that people can buy USD from them but only with enaira or whatever digital currency CBN uses. From that point onward, any money that enters as a digital currency will now stay as a digital currency. With time, say about 8 months, a lot of the excess liquidity flying around will reduce and voluntarily find their way as digital currency.

With more people now having to use such digital currency, CBN will have better control over monetary policies. The security situation will also improve because not only will a lot more people start using digital currency for their day-to-day transactions, but cash will gradually begin to reduce, and ransom payment will also become more difficult. All BTA, PTA, Pilgrimage, Form M, or any request for forex will follow this route. It will also help to reduce round-tripping because after buying USD one time, the naira equivalent is now digital. You will from that point find it difficult to round trip since the trail will now be available. This will be far better than the haphazard approach that was used the last time that brought the economy down.

Another beauty of this is that, those kidnappers who for some reason I believe are also stocking USD will push their money indirectly into digital currency, How? you may ask considering that they use the black market for their transactions.

So, here is how even those who patronize the black market will also indirectly have their cash mopped up. For BDCs to also access USD, they will also have to exchange it with digital enaira, so that the money their customers pay to them will be entering the now-bostering enaira.

This is just a draft idea but I believe it can be tweaked further by those who are experts.

One temptation CBN should not fall for is to try to prevent those who legitimately have money in a dom account from accessing it or turning it into naira. It may sound good on paper but Lebanon and Argentina tried it but the result was disastrous.

That is why CBN has been struggling to manage the high exchange rate situation.

How does that address the underlying situation where our only significant source of foreign exchange is via oil sales ?

Or the fact that we are a majorly importing country so we’ll always need to convert your Enaira to FX to buy the goods we import ?

Unless you can convince the world to start accepting enaira , your plan is largely ineffectual. Monetary policies are not the problem here . You can even cancel BTA and PTA completely. Afterall they’ve done so numerous times in the past , how has that helped ?

One airline alone can request for $200m from cbn to send money back to their home country. That’s more than all the BTA/PTA one Nigerian bank sell in an entire year . Airline don’t keep cash in their offices . It’s all digital

Let me quickly clear something. There's nothing basically wrong in having foreign owners for a national carrier. BA is owned by the Emirati. KLM is owned by Air France etc. My point was that you shouldn't have seen the minister's declaration whatever your grouse against it as due to hatred or bias for a certain airline.
That you did not mention the airline does not mean anyone with native intelligence cannot already fathom which airline you're referring to. A lot of guys with soft spot for AirPeace based on tribal identity picked issue with the former minister ignorantly based on his refusal to make AirPeace a national carrier.
Meanwhile there's nothing on ground that suggests AirPeace will be better placed to become national carrier if a local airline is considered. It is only tribal supremacists that see everything through tribal and narrow prisms.

Meanwhile there's nothing on ground that suggests AirPeace will be better placed to become national carrier if a local airline is considered.

You said what ? The fact that you throw the word ‘ignorant’ around , implicitly ascribing knowledge to yourself whereas each iof your posts so far has belied that very insinuation is a huge irony
This is my last response on this issue . You have a duty to educate yourself. It’s not my duty sir

There about 20-23 airlines in Nigeria . Virtually all of them except two have a fleet of
less than 9 aircraft
The majority actually have less than 5 . Kabo air has 1 .

The two that have more than 9 are

ARIK with 16 aircraft

Air peace with 29 aircraft

The implication is that Air Peace has more aircraft than some of the other airlines combined . And not just that , they have the biggest planes too . They also have the highest number of destinations too. They’re the largest airline in west Africa .

Our former national carrier had about 26 planes or so when it was Virgin Nigeria and then downsized to 12 planes when it became Air Nigeria . They also had 19 destinations at their peak .
Air Peace currently has 20 destinations as a private non-national airline .

So tell me if air peace is designated the national carrier , is it Kabo air with 1 plane or Azman with 5 planes that should complain ?

Now tell me also, if Air Peace was owned by Aliko Dangote , or Abdulsamad Rabiu , do you think it would even be a question of IF and not a matter of WHEN they ll be appointed as the national carrier ?

And what would you say then ? That’s it’s fully deserved . No ?

You don’t have to answer these rhetorical questions . I leave you to your thoughts and internal reflections/perspectives on how you want to achieve the Nigeria of your dreams

. There's nothing basically wrong in having foreign owners for a national carrier. BA is owned by the Emirati. KLM is owned by Air France etc

Oh so you don’t see anything wrong with Nigeria having a foreign airline as a national carrier , not UAE, not Netherlands. I mean Nigeria currently in its present situation .
I rest my case

What I'm correcting to for is this tribal jingoism of thinking it's Air Peace he's against for saying he prefers foreign collaborators.
So what if he decided to use local collaborators and he goes with Azman for example, you'll say he favored a northerner abi?

And you don’t think you’ve committed fallacy here ?

If you read my post , I intentionally did not mention the airline. I did that specifically to avoid the unpleasantness of the inevitable responses from online warriors .

You could’ve first of all asked which airline I had in mind , then it’s left for me to name it or decline.
But you conjuring up a line of response and going so far as to authoritatively use demeaning/insultive words , all based on speculation of what you think went on in my head IS A fallacy .

To make matters worse, nowhere did you throw your weight behind the logical arguments that every reasonable Nigerian and right thinking person would make when they read this article : that it is incomprehensible for a federal minister to try to justify a foreign company operating our national carrier , taking us back to the days of Obasanjo, putting strain on our already depleted forex reserves and just simply publicly revelling in incompetence . A federal minister that is supposed to administer policies that’ll deepen capacity in the sector . No. You focused on shutting down the opposition by any means necessary.
You could’ve balanced your statement by castigating the minister first , then sharing your thoughts on the perceived tribal matter but you went for the topic that was more important to you .
Therefore I submit that you sir , are a tribal warrior yourself
