That weed you’re smoking is too strong

Ijaw is only 1.8% of Nigeria and yet they’re more than double you people in number , Ibibio is only 1.7% of Nigeria and they’re far more than you in number .

With what army? Do you just secede with mouth? Why should Awolowo even trust the Ibos when their leaders like Zik willingly allied with the NPC and knowing the problems they were causing in the SW?

I mean after Biafra seceded. Nigeria was fighting Biafra . Gowon had fled from Lagos to the north. Awolowo could’ve seceded too. Then the north would be forced to negotiate . They could not have fought both sides
Politics / Re: January 15 Coup Was Not An Igbo Coup Check Out What This Man Said Before He Died by BitterTruth0001: 5:00pm On Dec 09, 2023
I don’t know about Akintola but that Sardauna was a bad man

I watched African high school debates from the 1950s/1960s organized by the British and one 16 year old boy from the north who was representing Nigeria was boldly talking about how Africa belongs to Islam. Saying white people should leave Africa

At the time , the middle belt was referred to as pagan provinces by both the northern Muslims and southern Christians as they were mostly practitioners of traditional religions. I believe that Jihad would’ve been unleashed on them eventually if this guys didn’t step up

Unfortunately igbos bore the brunt of the whole thing . And the Yorubas knowingly or unknowingly joined hands with the North to consolidate the fallacy that is Nigeria

What I don’t understand is why Awolowo didn’t take advantage of the situation then to secede . He was the one who suggested inserting a secession clause but Azikiwie and Balewa kicked against it. So when the chance came and Biafra seceded , why didn’t Awolowo seize that opportunity and take the Wester region and federal capital Lagos and leave ? The north would have not been able to fight on two fronts .

Was it that Awolowo’s hatred for the igbos was greater than his desire for the establishment of a yoruba nation ? So he decided to stay back to fight and punish us . I don’t know

But according to recently declassified memo from Henry Kissinger, US Secretary of State under JFK, the only uniting factor in Nigeria that time was the common hatred of igbos . If not this , I don’t see any other reason why Awo stayed back

This is why it is important for you all to have some understanding. The Yoruba people in the eastern region are living peacefully and maintaining proper behavior. Have you seen any Yoruba individuals referring to any part of the east as a no man’s land, like some of your fellow brothers and sisters do in Lagos? It is quite disrespectful to call Lagos a no man’s land. If your brothers can maintain good behavior and respect their hosts, there would be no need for anyone to ask them to return to their villages if they cannot live in peace with their hosts.

Jakande was the one who FIRST referred to Lagos as a no man’s land .
Stop misyarning .

This is a very big lie....maybe in some areas of Lagos like Ojo alaba isolo where igbos are concentrated.
It doesn't hold water where igbos are few and struggling like in most northern states that are themselves poor.

So you will have all this plans and others will fold their hands and be watching you ?
Do you know their own plans?

Igbos talk too much with a lot of chest beating and hence get little results

2023 woke a lot of Nigerians to igbos deceit and their candidate rightfully rejected at the polls. And once again it was proven that anyone can become president without igbo votes. The earlier igbos realise the importance of this fact the better so they know they can't go it all alone like Obi and LP did in 2023....they knew they couldn't win alone and still refused to form alliance with other parties believing the headless mobs votes will make them win only to come a distant third

Some fallacies here tho

Go check how many states obi won and you’ll see that among all the candidates he picked the minority tribes votes .
From the middle belt to the south south. Though Atiku cut his votes in Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom.

Tinubu got mostly Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba votes .

Yes while an alliance of two major tribes makes it easier to win the election, the minorities also have a say and can even determine it .

Wow .
Nigeria went from having lost the case and being ordered to pay $11 bn shocked, to winning the case , having the judgement debt set aside and being awarded $20m in compensatory costs.

Not only has the company P& D lost this case and will pay $20m , their investor is also suing them. They took money from an investment firm to finance the lawsuits believing they’ll win and give the investor some share of the money they’ll collect from Nigeria

Now they have lost the case , investor is suing them to return the money and also pay damages and the profit they were promised

Either way , lawyers are just cashing out steadily

Sincerely, I am not a fan of President Tinubu and I am not sure I will ever be. To begin with his government remains the worst in our history. But there is one thing I must commend him for. Tinubu is not leaving Igbo people out in his appointments. The eleven justices shortlisted for SC promotion, the Igbos got three slot, that to me is commendable.

Politics aside, he has impressed me when it comes to displaying a level respect for federal character unlike Buhari who didn't give a damn about anybody except his Fulani brothers and sisters.

It's about time we put a stop to this tribal/ethnic contest. The dick measuring contest is not doing us any good and it hurts to see our dear Nairaland go down the abyss.

Both Igbos and we Yorubas have a share of the blame. Elections have come and gone. Lets put the past behind us and chart a common cause for the future.

To my Igbo fellows, attack APC/Tinubu but leave out Yorubas.

To the Yorubas, lets separate constructive criticism from Obi/SE or the Igbo race.

Enough is enough guys. We are brothers.

Time to move on!

Gamesmart:
Honestly, after reading so many Igbo opinions on this thread and their persistent focus on the Yorubas and BitterTruth0001's claim that Yorubas are the ones that "arrogate unto itself the mantle of superiority and sophistication", (the former is definitely not true), I am convinced that the real reason many Igbos attack Yorubas is because they see them as their main competition for the premier/prestige tribe in Nigeria.

To be the premier/prestige tribe, a tribe would have to be:

- Large
- Economically Strong
- Highly Educated
- Productive
- Rich and Successful
- Cultured and Well-mannered

I don't think most Igbos see Hausas, and any other tribe apart from Yorubas, being able to compete with them on all these, hence the attacks and focus on Yorubas in most of the arguments of some Igbos despite the fact that Yorubas have been generally welcoming, tolerant and nice to them.

Hausas are far larger than them (and Yorubas) but would fail in all the other traits.

Yorubas are better than them in at least 4, if not all 6, of those traits.

All other tribes fail at "Large" trait as 65% of Nigerians are one of the 3 major tribes.

Honestly, I think i finally get the reason for persistent focus on Yorubas. It is the feeling of those that are the threat to the superiority many Igbos feel they need to have, and that has been documented for over 70 years. They really don't like being second.

Smh. Insolent and uncouth as usual.

During the last election campaign, I watched it live on Channels TV where the current Deputy Governor of Edo state, Philip Shaibu, was campaigning in Yoruba and interpreting for Obaseki! I kept wondering which part of Edo is this that Phillip Shaibu was campaigning in fluent Yoruba but I never bothered because I don't honestly care. Shaibu speaks fluent Yoruba!

Edo is not in South West and if Edo the politicians campaign in Yoruba language, the Yoruba here in Yorubaland really don't even know or care to know.

The only insolence here is you trying to insult our intelligence .
There are yoruba residents in Edo and Shaibu interpreted in Yoruba to carry everyone along and get as much votes as possible but Yoruba is not an indigenous language in Edo.

You’re comparing apples and oranges . And then backing it up with a justification that you cannot accept in your own backyard . You even admitted that the man is more yoruba than Esan, so why is he not contesting in Ibadan ?
Oh wait his last name is Esan so he is not Yorubanized enough .

The book "Stumbling on happiness" on my mind right now wink

The reality is that Edo is not monolingual so there may be no furore if a candidate turns out to be like LP's Chinedu in Lagos who can't speak Yoruba and had to get an interpreter during campaign too.

Asue and his siblings were born and raised in Ibadan where their parents lived, stayed and worked. Their mum is Yoruba while their Das is Esan. If they were females married to Yoruba men, they could even aspire to be the Governor of Oyo state. It's their names that kept restricted them as Edo , they could pass for a Yoruba family.

Their late mum, a Yoruba woman, was particularly phenomenal and popular as well as a role model to many people in Ibadan so much that her name was a household name in Ibadan those days. Their late Dad was a Senior Staffer at the University of Ibadan.Check my signature for free stuffs!

You think you’re clever .
Why is he not contesting in the accommodating region of Ibadan ?
Edo is not monolingual ?? Can he speak any of the local languages? Is yoruba part of the indigenous yoruba language ?

You’re being clever by half . Typically.
