Working while studying in foreign schools is a great way to gain work experience and acquire social, academic and language skills.

It is also an effective way for most international students to ease their financial burden of studying abroad and gaining international exposure.

Apart from providing an extra source of income, a part-time job while studying will give you a competitive edge when searching for full-time employment as a graduate.

Note that if you work when you are not allowed to, you will be in breach of your visa conditions and you may be deported.

If you are interested in studying and working in a foreign country, here are some countries that grant permits to students to work while studying as well as criteria students need to meet.

Education / Cheapest Countries To Study Abroad For Nigerian Students by BizWatch: 10:01pm On Jul 27, 2021
When considering one’s options of studying abroad, you have to consider many factors ranging from the financial requirement to job opportunities while studying, also the language barrier, food, culture, scholarship opportunity, weather condition, and the political stability of the country being considered as a destination for academic advancement.

Nigerians are very much inclined towards acquiring knowledge to improve their opportunities as well as career growth. It is said that Nigerian Americans are reputed as being the most educated single group in the United States of America according to research by Rice University in Houston, Texas.

The country’s educational system is largely underfunded thereby limiting options offered to its citizens in tertiary institutions. Also, the perception that foreign graduate certificates receive better recognition attests to the country’s broken educational system which forces many to study overseas even in smaller neighboring countries.

If your biggest concern is finding countries where tuition is quite affordable for international students then consider the following countries we have come up with. Click to see: https://bizwatchnigeria.ng/cheapest-countries-to-study-abroad-for-nigerian-students/

Nairaland / General / How To Reduce Threat To Nigeria’s Food Security Goal by BizWatch: 1:24pm On Jun 11, 2021
Food security is a cardinal agenda of any serious nation and Nigeria should not be an exception to this universal goal. The country’s food security is threatened by activities of the terrorist organization, Boko Haram and bandits in the northern part of the country, where a bulk of the country’s food is produced. Food output has declined leading to a rise in the price of farm produce.

However, insecurity is not the only challenge farmers face during the course of the year in producing food for over 200 million people. Farmers need access to funding, access to farm implements and markets.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) provides loans to farmers at affordable rates to assist farmers under its Anchor Borrowers’ Programme (ABP).

Nairaland / General / Cbn’s Forex Restriction On Sugar, Wheat Will Boost Local Production – Farmcrowdy by BizWatch: 1:17pm On Jun 11, 2021
he Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in April announced its decision to restrict access to foreign exchange for sugar and wheat importers. The co-founder and Chief Risk Officer of Farmcrowdy, Mr. Akidele Phillips stated in an exclusive interview with BizWatch Nigeria that the apex bank’s decision would boost local production.

Nigeria spends $600m to $1bn importing sugar yearly.

Reacting to the development, Mr. Akindele noted that, “Usually, when similar tax policies are put in place, it is to encourage production within the country. At the policy level, some of the ways to encourage local production or discourage importation is when a restriction is imposed or the import duty is raised.

“So, what I see is, because I am not in government, I am looking at the good side to this kind of policy. What is going to happen is, it is going to encourage local production. So even, if scarcity arises at the initial moment, the farmers that can actually produce these commodities are encouraged to do so to warm more revenue.“

Nairaland / General / ANALYSIS: Despite Economic Growth, Food Prices Soar, Hunger Bites by BizWatch: 2:15pm On May 31, 2021
Nigeria’s economy came out of recession in the fourth quarter of 2020, a situation that came as a surprise to many analysts.

After the coronavirus-induced recession last year, Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 0.11 per cent in Q4 2020, which the Minister of Finance, Ahmed Zainab, attributed to a combination of the government’s fiscal, monetary and trade policies.

In the first quarter of this year, statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) also showed that slow growth of 0.51 per cent was recorded, a situation which the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria described as fragile since the growth rate was far below the population rate.

Nairaland / General / Strike Update 2021: Tussle Between FG, ASUP by BizWatch: 10:55am On May 14, 2021
The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) are yet to reach a concession, as the latter says that the FG has refused to honour its demands.

A few days ago, the union announced that its members would not back down from the strike action it embarked on just last month.

ASUP said that it would only call of its strike if the Federal Government implemented the agreement reached in 2010 and salaries and arrears of lecturers in state-owned universities were settled.

Listed as part of its demands is the implementation of the NEEDS assessment report that, according to the union, was enjoyed by universities alone.

The union demands that the FG ensures that the assessment report was altered to include polytechnics.

Business / EXCLUSIVE: 10 Nigerian Banks Saved N12.38bn On Travel, Entertainment In 2020 by BizWatch: 12:11pm On May 05, 2021
The travel restrictions introduced in Nigeria and other countries at the peak of COVID-19 to reduce the spread of the disease helped 10 Deposit Money Banks (DMB) save over N12.38 billion in travel, hotel and entertainment expenses in 2020.

This is because the restrictions in domestic and internationals travel made organisers of many business-related seminars and conferences, which required travel, to hold them on online communications platforms such as Zoom, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams.

BizWatch Nigeria‘s analyses of the 2020 audited financial reports of 10 banks showed that their business travel expenses slumped by 38 per cent year-on-year from a total of N32.74 billion in 2019 to N20.32 billion in 2020.'

Nairaland / General / ANALYSIS: New Policy Fails To Reverse Gas Flaring, Importation by BizWatch: 7:56am On May 03, 2021
To reverse the loss of potential revenue to gas flaring and capital flight due to regular importation of Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) to meet domestic demand, the Nigerian government introduced the Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme (NGFCP).

The initiative was introduced in 2016 to eliminate gas flaring by capturing it during oil exploration and making the gas available for sale to private firms who will be screened through a transparent bidding process.

The plan was that by 2020, the programme being handled by a team of professionals led by the Project Manager, Justice Derefaka, will bring gas flaring to an end.

However, as of April 2021, the practice which leads to waste of significant volume of gas resources and potential revenue continues despite the existence of a regulation and insufficient local supply of gas to meet demand.

In order to achieve zero gas flaring by 2020, a framework was designed to ensure an open, fair and transparent bidding process by investors who will monetise flare gas, that the investors get the gas at a fair price, improve flare gas monitoring and flare payment enforcement.

The country has missed the 2020 target as this valuable energy resource is wasted and more money is misused on importation of gas to plug gaps in local production. At the same time, Nigeria’s gas-powered electricity plants suffer from gas shortage leading to widespread regular power outage.

Nairaland / General / ANALYSIS: Food Inflation Pushing Millions Of Nigerians Into Hunger, Poverty by BizWatch: 11:34am On Apr 26, 2021
The prices of essential food items are rising beyond the reach of Nigerians and this situation is deepening hunger and dragging more people into poverty.

Last year, the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown affected local food production and farm output, leading to economic instability and loss of jobs.

Loss of means of livelihood for many Nigerians and slashed salaries for others have reduced their ability to buy basic food items, heightening hunger and thwarting cash transfer initiatives of the Nigerian authorities to households and businesses.

Nigeria’s inflation rate has been galloping since last year and rose to a three-year high of 18.17 per cent in March 2021, according to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

On a month-on-month basis, the Headline index increased by 1.56 per cent in March 2021, this is 0.02 per cent points higher than the rate recorded in February 2021 (1.54 percent).
