I hear their mother is still alive

Her Husband was one of Balewa's Ministers
Her oldest son Gen Shehu Musa Yaradua was Military Deputy President to Obasanjo
Her second son was Umar Yaradua was President of Nigeria
This son is a Senator

Their Mother is a Living Museum of Nigerian History

I hear she is almost 100

Wow! A documentary needs to be done on her, while she's still alive. She's practically the mother of the nation at this point.

Only people who do care for the long term stability and prosperity of Nigeria, will applaud these sectional appointments. There will be a northern president at some point in the future who will do the same thing. Ultimately it is the nation that suffers

My brother we thank God!
When you've got experience in your field, you will be ok. I can't complain. Old timers with experience are getting by. It's really hard for the newcomers, especially those without good skills. That's why I am trying to advise people, to at the very least, be careful and get detailed information, before selling all they have to come and suffer in the UK. I understand Nigeria is very rough sha, it's not easy at all.

My brother thanks for calling the poster out. We really need to spread the word about the REALITY of the UK, You could actually be saving a life The depression I've seen in many of the recent Japa people is not a joke at all. I am here in the UK and doing very fine, I know the system inside out. I can't count how many people me and my friends have recently had to help. Japa people who have found themselves broke, some not even able to eat. The other day we had to go and give one lady pots and plates as her house was totally empty and she could not afford anything.
Its people like you that sadly give many Nigerians a false picture of the UK. If you read my post again, I never said the UK is not better than Nigeria, or that some people can't make it here. What I said very clearly is that the UK is NOT FOR EVERYONE. If you do not have in-demand skills you will find it very very difficult to have a sataisfying life here. That is just a fact

Many Nigerians really abused the care worker scheme in the UK. Some charging up to £10k to sponsor their fellow Nigerians and then they don’t have work for them or give them 10 hours a week, meanwhile the poor person is unable to legally work for another organization because they are tied by work permit.

And they have sold property, borrowed money etc to find this. By the time they pay £10k for certificate of sponsorship, pay for visa fees and NHS fees they are probably spending over £20k to end up with a shitty job with shitty wages or worse not even enough hours to pay basic bills.

On top of all that the pay for care workers is rubbish especially when you consider the work involved.

I know many Nigerians who went to UK on student visa for masters, MBA etc who can only get care work after graduation.
We really need to spread the word, to those planning to Japa to the UK. Its just not worth it. With half the money you can start a business in Nigeria tht will be much more profitable in the long run. The UK is simply not the country to come and hustle. If you a skilled profesional, who's skills are in demand here (Doctor, Dentist, Nurse..) then you have a good chance of getting a job and making a resonable living, for the rest, please do not do it. There are better options if you must Japa.

Anybody who spends loads of money to come to UK right now, needs their head examined or better yet, serious prayers. The only people who should migrate to the UK, are skilled workers that have secured a JOB from Nigeria. Coming over here to 'hustle' will just leave u depressed, broke and angry. The economy is not in a good shape and will get worse this year. You have been warned O!

Politics / Re: CBN Policies Won't Drive Economic Growth — Obaseki by bjdon: 4:58pm On Mar 04, 2024
CBN is clueless.
When inflation is driven by over spending, resulting from cheap and easy credit, then tightening by raising interest rates is the correct approach.
Nigeria's inflation is not that kind. The inflation in Nigeria is not being driven by people spending too much, it's been driven by the fall in the value of the currency, in what is essentially an import dominated economy. Putting up interest rates will not solve that problem at all. The only solution is to curb imports and increase exports. One of the ways to that is to encourage manufacturing and processing, but raising interest rates actually makes it harder for such firms to raise capital. Obaseki is spot on. Sadly he won't be listened to, again and in some months time, the truth of his words will be clear for all to see. Again.

Let me educate you further, NDA is solely a cadet training school for the Army (Like Law school for Lawyers), NDA don't run undergraduates programs for Civilians only Cadets and upon graduation military officers, the reason NDA maximum of admission per state is 5 students, not through JAMB or IJMB unlike NAUB but through sometimes connection. NDA is saddled of training only officers, NAUB is a hybrid school,NDA don't lack the where withal to conduct academic research,NAUB offer opportunity to military recruits who did not have the opportunity to go through NDA in order become officers, you can be in your posting as a regular Army and undergoing training at the Nigerian Army University, unlike NDA, Community policing Security-wise the reason NAUB etc..
The army has no need to be running a university period! What next? Will the army start running farms maybe? Oil blocks? Airlines?
The army should focus on its primary responsibility which is to defend the nation.

See, there's nothing bad if Nigeria water corporation can create their own university. If ministry of Agriculture can create their own. And so on.

If there's mismanagement, that's something understandable. But saying military school is useless is just rubbish.

This is why Nigeria can NEVER move forward when people like you argue for things that are just plan wrong. By your logic because one ministry has done something wrong every other part of govt should be able to do the same. So what next? Navy create their own university, Airforce create their own university, police create their own university, EFCC create their own university, ICPC create their own university, customs create their own university.... The universities we already have are underfunded and falling apart, rather than focusing on improving what we already have, people like you would be more than happy to just keep opening more and more mushroom institutions all over the place.
I've always maintained a nation gets the leaders it deserves Nigerians are not yet ready for serious, results oriented, prudent govt

There's nothing wrong with the army establishing businesses that will help it generate funds they will use to finance the military.

Today, we have been complaining that our security operatives are poorly funded and it has terribly affected to their efficiency. Setting up businesses can be a source of revenue for the military to equip their officers and acquire hardware.

By the way, Command Day Secondary School, owned by the Nigerian military, is one of the best secondary schools in the country and it is open to children of civilians. The level of discipline and academic excellence is topnotch!

The only problem I have with the university is where it is located. If the school is located somewhere in the South, everywhere knows it's a for-profit venture. But establishing the university in the part of the country where people rarely go to school is beyond my comprehension.

Which funds is the university generting? Where in the world does ANY kind of educational establishment generate signfiant revenue to contribute to the nations defense?
Please let's just call a spade a spade. This was nothing more than a vanity project from the former chief of army staff to locate something in his hometown. If a super power like the united states of america has only military academy (West Point) and the UK has ony Sandhurst, then there is no reason whatsover why the NDA is not sufficient for our officer training needs. The so called military university should be merged with the NDA without delay. We need to start doing things CORRECLTY in this country if we are ever to move forward.
I've got absolutly no problem with the FG pouring extra funds into Borno to support Primary and secondary and technical education.

Let me tell you Obaseki hardly loss election go and Mark it .......
I slaute my brother. You quite right many people that comment on Edo politics don't actualy live in Edo state. Obaseki is a tested fighter and PDP has a solid lock on Edo south. Oshimole understood that, which is why he tried to rig in an Edo south candiate. One thing I will mention is the choice of running mate in PDP is very important. I hope the rumors of Lucky's sister are not correct. That will be a big negative for PDP

Quite a useful take as long as you understand there's a difference between convenient price and free market price.

Unfortunately the price of natural gas in Nigeria is REGULATED, not free market. It's CONVENIENT in the sense that you can be jailed or forcibly bankrupted for selling at you chosen, free market price.

My friend I can't express to you how very disappointed I am with Nigerians. Look at another comment here

How can Nigerians be this oblivious about their economy and how it works? Na juju or wetin? Simple things!!! I tire 😫

Who do Nigeria this thing abeg? I've met multiple Nigerian University graduates with business degrees who didn't know what VAT means.

My simple test for the competence of a Nigerian lawyer is to ask them who owns land in Nigeria or if an individual can own land. Most of them, I mean over 99%, don't know the answer.

Nigeria is a country where the vast majority think that SAP is a bad policy when the EVIDENCE is that it saved Nigeria.

Nigeria is a Zoo.

Good Luck to Nigerians.
Please help to educate them where you can. The less ignorant the population, the less easy they can be manipulated

It's very interesting how Nigerians hold so many factually wrong views about their country. On topics ranging from why Nigeria is a unitary state, who owns land, existence of fuel subsidies, what political system holds sway, the vast majority of the citizens have no idea. Which is OK, but what about the university educated fraction and also the elites? They're no better.

The Nigerian government owns 49% of NLNG, while a consortium of private companies own the majority 51% stake. The Federal Government thus has little control over NLNG.

Another company with similar structure is Indorama, which is the former Nigeria Petrochemical Company Eleme. Federal Government owns only 5%. Indorama has been wildly successful, it even exports fertilizer from Nigeria. At some point during around maybe 2005 or 2011, I forget the year really, there was a bill sponsored in the National Assembly for government to take back Indorama. The employees rioted and the plan was dropped. Like most things that show the futility of government ownership and socialism in general, the story made very little news and mostly was not reported on.

Not quite in the way you think. It's happening for the same reason subsidy on petrol and forex has been drastically reduced. The Federal Government has no choice in the matter, the policies of the last decade of APC government has bankrupted Nigeria. So we can commend President Tinubu for doing what he had to do, nothing more. He has no choice.

You're welcome.

Good Luck to Nigeria.
Bless you!
It's so refreshing to read posts from an informed and knowledgeable person. The poster who was challenging what I said, really made me laugh with his ignorance. My brother worked with NLNG some years ago, so I know about the company very well.
