Good morning house, pls i want to know the process it takes for my wife to go and live and work in canada by 2019, i do not want to go through any traveling agent i want a DIY procedure, if it works out i will be joining her in 2020 as i will be retiring from my job as a military personnel, good and reasonable ideas are welcome thanks.

Hi, all the necessary information that you and your wife need can be found at this link, https://www.nairaland.com/4843199/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled

If you diligently read and study the process, you don't need any agent. All the best.

I am a silent follower of this thread and I have read from 1-170still reading tho. To the above thanks for informative and educative post.As you are touching lives the lord will elevate you guys too.
I am relocating with my 1year old daughter to Ottawa in January. I want to know about preschool/daycare for my daughter?how is fashion design business?Do Nigerians in canny really sew native dresses ?Is anyone in this line of business on this thread that can put me tru?is there bridging program for microbiologist ?

Hi, to add to what has already been shared with you, you can go here for the Parent Guide to Licensed Child Care in Ottawa, https://documents.ottawa.ca/sites/default/files/documents/parent_guide_en_May%202018.pdf

You can also get help with your child care costs at this link, https://ottawa.ca/en/residents/social-services/childrens-services/get-help-your-child-care-costs

For fashion design business, you may want to align with the Nigerian/African network/community in Ottawa. Find and join the usual WhatsApp groups, Nigerian professionals groups, church/mosques so you know how big the potential market is and to get referrals. If people know you and refer you, your business can grow and you are aware of the trends your clients want. If you're looking at Western fashion, then you should probably consider a short course to get you up to speed and then know how to get the necessary licensing/registration done before you open shop. Check with the immigrant assistance agencies close to you like YMCA or YWCA and OCISO, https://ociso.org/employment/

For information on general Bridge Training Programs in Ontario, check here and see what you can find to help you on your way, http://www.ontarioimmigration.ca/en/working/OI_BRIDGE_GENERAL.html

Hope these point you in a good direction.

@blackbuddy ,

Hi hello, I just got on the thread yesterday, I’ve tried to read lots of the pages and I singled you out in a very short time.
You’re a breath of fresh air, thank you!

Biko help me too,

I presently work as a supply chain officer and would want to continue in that line. Are there bridging programs to help me get entry level jobs, i understand I still have to get a diploma later.

Please focus on Alberta as that’s where my husband can only find a job. Thank you

Hi, there are many wonderful folks here giving back and I'm encouraged you find us all worthwhile in what we do here. Per a bridging program for supply chain occupation in Alberta, there quite a few I found online like these

Diploma offered by University of Alberta, https://www.ualberta.ca/extension/continuing-education/programs/business-and-leadership/supply-management-training

SCMP Designation with SCMA Alberta, http://scma.com/ab/education-training-programs/scmp-designation-program

Diploma from Mount Royal University, https://www.mtroyal.ca/ProgramsCourses/ContinuingEducation/businesstraining/supplychain/

Alberta Employment and Training Services Directory has programs and services to help workers find and keep jobs, get training and adapt to the changing labour market. You can get detailed info on government supported programs for each city in Alberta here, https://www.alberta.ca/employment-training-services-directory.aspx

Of course there would be many more resources out there but I hope these help you out as a start, all the best.

Hi all,

I got a call from someone that agents in Nigeria said Canada has opened its doors to Nigerians regardless of your qualifications and he wants to find out from me before paying the agent.

Has anyone heard such recently? He said i should enquire and get back to him and i don't even know who to enquire from so that i dont sound stupid.

Your responses will be appreciated. Ok bye.

Very untrue, please let your friend know that the only genuine path for skilled workers from Nigeria is Express Entry and/or Provincial Nomination. You can direct him/her to IRCC website to see for himself that somebody is about to run a scam on him/her.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada.html

Canada is not opening any such doors 'regardless of qualification', not with the recent body language of the government here to tighten entry requirements especially for asylum seekers and refugees, requiring higher burden of proof for successful processing of claims. So much so, some immigration consultants here recently protested a recent court ruling that will make it more challenging for certain asylum seeking Nigerians to scale through now.

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKCN1L621Q

https://www.google.ca/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2018/may/23/canada-rejecting-more-refugee-claims-amid-border-crossing-influx-under-trump

Please send your friend to the Nairaland Express Entry thread rather than allow some dubious persons to make him or her a case study.

Hello All,

Any idea on how one can reduce one's monthly car insurance payment?

I've been paying ~255CAD monthly and I was just wondering if I could negotiate for a review any time soon.

PS: It's a brand new car and I'm on Class 5.

cc: @Blackbuddy

Hi, after shopping around to find the best deal which I'd like to assume you've done, the next thing would be to ensure you keep a clean driving record. If you make no claims (and no claims are made against you as well) then your premiums ought to drop for the next insurance year.

You can also consider combining insurance plans. When I first came in, I was offered combined auto-apartment/home contents insurance package and when I compared it to having only auto insurance, the combined package was a better deal.

Ask your current insurer if they have a driving monitoring program. An example is Ajusto Program offered by The Personal Insurance in Ontario which is a usage-based insurance program that you can access directly from your smartphone to help you monitor your driving habits and save up to 25% on your auto insurance premium. There's a little gadget that they affix in your vehicle which tracks how you drive, wether you accelerate and decelerate properly, apply brakes properly and maintain safe driving speeds, wether you drive less during high peak period and at night etc. Once they see you are a low risk driver, they will reduce your premium/offer you a discount on your auto insurance premium in as little as 100 days—just by driving carefully! This is what I and my wife, some of my friends here used on our cars to bring down our premium. For my friend who has been using them for 4 years now, it's been driving down his combined insurance costs every year and keeps you motivated to be a good driver. Hope these help you out, hopefully others in Alberta can chime is as well.

Anyone know who to address the FRSC letter to, for drivers heading to Alberta/Ontario? Sadly, FRSC does not use TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN.

Hi, try these,

For Ontario, you can use 'Drive Test Centre, Ministry of Transportation of Ontario'.

For Alberta, you can use 'Drivers Licensing, Alberta Transportation'.

Can someone share how they manage to carry C$10k through Lagos airport?

Hi, I landed with over USD $10,000 in cash. I simply split the money in 2 parts, gave my wife half and we put them in our pockets, simple. When asked, I declared only $10,000 to the guys in Lagos Airport, that was all I was prepared to let them know and when they asked for 'roger', I just smiled at the dude and walked away. I already had my explanations ready for where I got the funds from in case they asked so I was confident that 'there would be no shaking'. It all boils down to how you carry your self. My friend came with over $50k when he landed afterwards, he also split it with his wife and kept in their pockets. It's just money, not acid smiley The choice of how much you declare in Nigeria is up to you, I would not advise everyone to do what I did. I'm used to travelling so I know how to handle the airport guys. If you know 'your head can not carry sharpness', please declare the cash you have on you and deal with the naija airport officials guys if they request for settlement according to how you are led.

But when you arrive in Canada, please and please, declare every dime of cash you landed with that is equal to or above $10k. There is no sharpness here, just declare. It is not a crime to land with over $10k, you just need to declare it and be ready to explain the source of the funds (if asked) and they usually don't stress you when they know you are a new immigrant/PR. Only rarely do they ask to count your cash before they record it. Hope this helps.

Boss please can I come with my Nigerian certification for forklift training.

Also what types of investment is available for me to invest over there,

Your view will highly be appreciated

HI, you are free to bring your Nigerian certificate but you will still have to go through the process of meeting the requirements of any province where you settle to be qualified to operate a forklift here. This is similar to other licensed professions where you have to get certified before you can practice here. I advice you go back and study the link I provided you to see if your certificate will be useful for any part of the process.

I'm not sure what you mean by investment but any type of investment you have in Nigeria is also available here. There are bank products you can invest in, there are bonds and shares here, there are real estate opportunities, even baba ijebu (lotteries/gambling) is available here. There is something for every one. When you arrive and look around, you will be better informed after you settle down. All the best.

Please does Uber operate in Canada, if yes what type of car do the use, was thinking of site hustle....

Also

How profitable is forklift operator or driver in Canada,

2. Is there any Training certification one can enrol and get trained or one should learn the training from naija.

Thanks

The requirements for Uber driving in Canada can be found at this link, https://www.uber.com/ca/en/drive/

Forklift driving is a respectable means of livelihood for those interested in blue collar careers here. The training requirements vary from province to province in Canada. You can research the different requirements at this link, http://forkliftlicenseguide.com/canada

Hello my people,

Thank for ur good works & knowledge shared on this forum.

I just landed in canada less than 2 weeks precisely in newfoundland

I have a masters degree in finance & will like to get a job in the financial services industry here.

So for finance professionals in our midst who moved to Canada, how did you navigate the financial job market. specifically, are there courses or certifications in finance here that could increase my chances of securing a job in this field.

Thank you very much for ur anticipated kind response.

One love.

Hi, this question has been answered numerous times by various respondents with very detailed steps on how to navigate the financial services sector as well as other areas. You`ll gain a lot if you backtrack and read backwards, cheers.

Please I want to ask a question to you all. Can I buy a mobile SIM card at the airport when I land at Toronto Pearson airport? Someone told me in Canada they don’t sell SIM cards at the airports but I want to confirm wether it’s true.

You heard right in the sense that there are no permanent stalls for the telcos to sell their retail products at Pearson Airport however, they occasionally have pop-up shops when they have promos. I saw a koodo pop-up shop in July at Pearson arrivals lounge when I went to pick up visiting relatives. When I was there just last month to pick up friends passing thru to Nova Scotia, the stall was gone smiley So hope for the best when you arrive.
