Good morning FAM
I have an 18 year old relation that has lived with me almost all her life cos her parents are late. I wish to bring her along to Canada. Is it possible and what steps can I take please ?

Hi, you will have to formally adopt her, get the court papers to prove this then add her to your application like any other family member. Once she crosses 21 years of age, she will have to apply on her own and cannot come as your dependent.

My Dear Seniors,

I am landing at Ontario in a couple of days and have been thinking about the best way to show POF at port of entry. For now, I have decided to carry equivalent of C$9000 in USD and then have the balance POF as USD in my Dom. account with a debit card and internet banking access to it. Also, I have printed 6 months account statement of the Dom. account as further evidence of the balance.

Please from your experience, will above be sufficient in the worst case scenario or do I take the risk of carrying everything as cash?

Would hugely appreciate your responses.

Thank you in advance.

This is a good way to enter the country and it will be adequate to establish sufficient POF if you are asked. I wish you a safe trip and a pleasant welcome in advance.

the reason i am asking is that the agent who my dad contact told my dad that it was a working permit visa but after i went for biometric i saw thst it was TRV that was on my receipt, so that is why i am asking if i can fine a way to get a work permit

Now that you know that what you have, that is, your visa is not valid to work with here or get a job, you can decide to get a permanent resident visa through Express Entry if you have relevant work experience or pursue admission to a school and get a student visa. You can join the Express Entry thread or the Canadian student threads on Nairaland, all the best ahead.

so some one coming from nigeria with a TRV can not get a sponsor

Did you get your TRV on the basis of student status? You could apply for a post graduate work permit after your programme. There are a number of ways to apply for a work permit and you could find all the relevant info you need at this link, https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/permit.html

Hello Seniors,
Pls has anyone here relocated with a niece or nephew, I will like to relocate with my 9yr old niece. How do I go about it?

Hi, further to TheCongo2's response above, you will have to formally adopt the child in Nigeria and receive 'leave to remove' the minor from the country (this is evidenced through the adoption papers). Even where you have the express consent of the child's parents to take the child, in the absence of the formal adoption papers and inclusion of the child in your immigration application, Canada will not process the application unless the needful is done. If you're serious, initiate the adoption process now as you plan to process/submit your immigration application.

Good evening people. Please my husband would be doing short landing next month and coming back to Naija after a month. The PR cards may not be ready when he is leaving. Please how do we apply for the travel document to enable him re enter Canada. Or do I just wait, and send him the PR card via courier when it is ready? Please help a sister out. Thanks

It is simpler to just send the PR card to him through family/friends travelling back home when it's ready. My wife just returned home for a visit yesterday and took PR vards for a family of five back to them. Customs sometimes intercept PR cards inside courier packages and send them back to IRCC, fear of 'Nigerian boys'. So look for trusted family and/or friends to take your husband's PR card back to him.

Hi Canadian family, wishing everyone a great long weekend as we're set to celebrate Victoria Day on Monday.

For those in the GTA, you could check out Nathan Philips Square in Toronto this weekend where they are hosting Urbani_T, a free outdoor event celebrating fashion shows, design workshops, music and art installations with pop up shops and food trucks. I got these few pics this morning as they were setting up for it.

How will one move money from a USD domiciliary account opened in Nigeria to Canadian account?

Please Epp oh!

Thank you all!

Hi, get the Swift code for your Canadian bank together with the bank code and your account number and give to your Nigerian bank to use and effect an FX wire/funds transfer for you from your Nigerian dom account to your Canadian account.

Please do I have to do a list of accompanying and goods to follow for a short landing?

Well, you're required to provide a list of all goods accompanying you on your landing trip especially if they have appreciable value to avoid getting taxed on them. Any goods you bring on subsequent trips could be taxed, operative word being 'could'. What people do is to get a list of goods coming later, that is, 'goods to follow' and present during short landing so that when you are finally set to come fully, those goods will escape the tax hammer. Hope this clarifies your question.

Guys in Ontario,

Please pardon my question, it might be a bit insensitive.

Is this how emergency alert will be going forward? I understand it’s importance and all but I thought it was just a notification the first time so that anytime there is a province based general emergency, we will know. Now, radio, tv, phones, everything just paused and alert came on about a child last seen with a woman and to call 911 if seen. The alert even disconnects a call just to get one’s attention.

Pls is there a way one can ‘unregister’ from this alert services?

It's a government safety initiative, one can not opt out of it. It will definitely come in useful to marshal public awareness and response to emergency situations. Just accept it as for the common good smiley

I created my WES account in my maiden name because my passport is in my maiden name. I also registered for IELTS in my maiden name.

I have decided to cahnge my passport to my married name after IELTS before continuing with the application. Is it possible/advisable?

Yes it is allowed and not an issue. Please upload/submit newspaper publication showing change of name together with a copy of your marriage certificate where applicable.

My wife is creating her WES account. What name should she use? Her maiden name which is the same name on her certificate or her married name?

Thanks in advance.

Use her married name which should be the same as in her international passport. The name on the WES account does not have to be same as that for her school certificate which is likely in her maiden name, it's not an issue.

Hi guys...for the naija guys on PR in Canada, i have these questions to ask:

1) Do u have any regrets relocating to Canada? None at all

2) I read the post of this blogger the other day and she was blabbing about how Nigerians goto suffer in Canada and struggle for jobs with refugees from Sudan, Iraq and d likes...How true is this? Not true as we have many success stories, some on this thread if you take the time to read backwards and see for your self how some people are flourishing here

3) Does it make sense for someone earning around 250k monthly in naija to consider relocating to Canada for better standard of living? With due respect, that's chicken feed compared to what some were earning back in Nigeria before we decided to come here where we now make that in just 1 week based on our bi-weekly pay. All those crazy big salaries you see on job vacancies pasted here on indeed, glassdoor and monster.ca, that's what some people earn here with 'pls accept it' during recruitment here in Canada and they don't have 2 heads. It's all about knowing yourself, knowing what you have to offer, presenting yourself in the right way and networking your way into power positions. Many have shared their experiences on how they landed nice jobs here, read back to get inspired and motivated. A simple search on LinkedIn will show you your fellow Nigerians who landed here not too long ago holding fantastic positions in various fields of endeavor

Hi, as you see above, I agree with the responders above on your enquiries. It's an open, level playing field in some respects here, you just need focus, knowledge, understanding and the right company of people to help you stay encouraged.

Hello e-fam, i am at IP1 and i am trying to research on the Cities close to Toronto where i can live as i have heard that living in Toronto cost a lot.

Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. I am considering this because i am an IT professional and i know that there are quite a number of IT jobs in Toronto.

Thank you.

Hi, cities close to Toronto in the GTA - Greater Toronto Area one can consider living in while working in Toronto include, Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, Etobicoke, Oakville, Ajax, Milton, North York and Markham. There are others which are further away but as a newcomer, consider these ones named here in your research. All the best ahead.

Hello friends how are you all doing and how is canada today hope you all are doing great, i just want to ask a question pls can some one use his TRV to get a job in canada if not how can someone with the visa go about in canada to get a job

Sorry but you cant work in Canada with a Temporary Resident Visa, it's a visit/tourist visa and no employer will give you a job since you don't have a Social Insurance Number. Unless you want to do undocumented, under-the-table, factory/farm work runs and if caught, it's deportation and ban on future visa applications.

You can follow the Nairaland thread on Express Entry for Skilled workers for guidance on how to get a PR visa with which you can work and live in Canada legally, https://www.nairaland.com/4472519/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled

Did anybody come across an agent based in Abeokuta inviting people to come and apply for EE, promising them that he has many slots in Manitoba PNP? They even went as far as promising people that they will pay the flight, accommodation, visa fees and other associated fees because they are a Canadian Visa Agent. The beneficiary will only pay back when he/she gets to Manitoba. Could this be real house? I intentionally held back their name and a snapshot of their flyer to avoid being banned here in the name of advertisement.

Immigration consultants or agents must be members of the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council to represent anyone for the sake of immigration to Canada. If you can not find their name on the list at this official link for registered Immigration consultants in Canada, they are fakes - http://secure.iccrc-crcic.ca/search-new/EN

Note that it is an offense punishable by Canadian law for anyone to provide Canadian immigration services for a fee or other consideration if they are not regulated by ICCRC, a Canadian law society, or the Chambre des notaires du Québec. Please 'shine your eyes'.

Thank you so much.

I will raise a CSE. I initially uploaded the proof of custody (Court Judgement), her biological father's death certificate, Her biological mother's voter's ID card attached to a notorised consent she signed.

I will get evidence of school fees we have been paying, HMO id cards, family pictures and anything I can think of. This will be attached in the CSE. I was just worried that won't raising a CSE without been asked sound like I am been on the defensive even when they have not queried me.

God help me. I tire.

Hi, the 'potential concern' comment made is just an observation by the review officer, it's not a death sentence and it's not an application deal breaker. A review supervisor will take a further look at all you have provided and what is required for situations involving adopted children. You are clearly in the right with all you have done in law and as per CIC requirements and you have the express, documented consent of the biological parent. The child is your child in every sense of the word and relationship and with all you have put in place, I don't see any impediment to the successful completion of your PR application process for your whole family.

As has already been rightly pointed out to you, please attach any other evidences of relationship you might have and relax. A few of us are already looking forward to meeting you and your family here, I trust this helps smiley

Hello House
Please anyone that raised a GCMS note..how long exactly did it take to get the feedback.
Thank you

Under the Canadian Access to Information and Privacy Act, the IRCC has to respond to a request for GCMS notes within 30 days. However, 40 to 50 days is the average processing time after taking into consideration the workload on different offices and the number of pending requests. It may end up being more as peoples files are all different.

Please a quick question;

How does one with an MBA verify credentials?

Hi, there's really no special way to verify your MBA. You just follow the procedure for getting an ECA like any other degree. This link will show you the steps to verify the MBA, https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/become-candidate/eligibility/education-assessed.html

If it's from a Nigerian school, you may have to make some effort to follow up with the relevant department in your school to ensure your transcript is ready and the process can be seamless. Some schools are more organised than others hence the need to follow up.

You could follow and read up on this thread to see the experiences of others in getting their degrees verified, https://www.nairaland.com/4212543/canadian-express-entry-federal-skilled

To the gentleman who is getting the responses above, there`s really nothing more that needs to be added as every single person who has replied you so far has spoken great wisdom so please sit up.

You are holding onto a sense of security that does not take into account what Canada has to offer you. In your specific interest and the general interest of your family, have a rethink and look towards Canada. Like we say in Ontario, `it`s yours to discover`. All the best ahead.

Very very Long Post Alert!!!

Hi Guys,

This is our landing story... its a little bizarre so please bear with me.

We left Nigeria on 14th April. Our flight was for 1:40 Saturday afternoon, we went with 4 big boxes and two hand luggage. The check-in bags were all overweight so there was a brief period of craziness where my mother and my wife and her sisters had to open up the bags and jettison all the extra crap they had packed all in the name of "load". I tagged all the bags and we proceeded to passport control and immigration. I only parted with 1k by way of "roger"(thank God). I was ready for them and thought we would be forced to part with more but maybe they were in a good mood that day...

Anyways, next up is a visit to my office in Pointe Claire as I never sabi road, make I no loss. My wife has also begun her job search. The bilingualism issue is a bit of a downer but we’r determined to remain positive and to learn more of the language and culture..

I’ve tried to be as detailed as possible cos I know a whole lotta people are coming behind us. If there are other questions you need answered, I’ll try my best to do so…All for the movement

Welcome to Canada, you will find it has all been worth the while smiley

Hi Everyone, planning to move to Canada soon aside POF, COPR what else do I need to present at port of entry? Thanks

Hi, you to enter Canada, you’ll need:
•a Canadian immigrant visa (if this applies)
•Confirmation of Permanent Residence for each family member traveling with you
•a valid passport or other travel document for each family member traveling with you
•two copies each of:
◦a detailed list of all the personal or household items you’re bringing with you
◦a list of items that are arriving later and their money value

These lists are what are known as list of goods accompanying you and goods to follow if you have any coming later by cargo/freight.

This platform is informative i must say, i just obtained a Canadian study visa to resume in September 2018 but i want to ask if i can apply for express entry now....

Thanks in advance....

Hi, if you meet the requirements for Express Entry, you're free to apply. I'd advise you wait until you land with the student visa then begin to put the requirements for EE into your profile.

Day 2- Got fido line $60cd 6gigs mainly because i intend to use the hotspot alot as i dont think it makes sense for Oga to get a contract since he is soft landing . I will change it to the $45 4gig next month or even something cheaper. They offered $11cad for phone insurance- they replace it if it breaks or is stolen - you can only claim twice a year. So go to shoppers world and ask for Dave if you are in the GTA- they seem to know what they r doing there.

Note- not all fido staff know their onions. The person that attended to my brother said that he needed Canadian ID so i avoided that place and luckily met someone that has experience with newbies like us and Oh lest i forget he gave me $100cad credit free cos i spent almost an hour there cos they had computer issues. So 1st month bill cleared smiles.

Day 3
Got 6mnths free banking with TD 1500cred card, walmart and school runs. The kids have been bored 2 out of 3 of them will start school today so they have something to gist bout over easter break. Class picture is April 3rd. Im glad we came at the right time

It has been overwhelming honestly
Yet to do the school runs.

Need advise o- which home internet is better- Rogers or Bell?
I Missed you guys but the fear of over 2500msgs is the beginning of wisdom

Been using uber with my gtbank naira card. Cant wait to get a licence

Sorry for the epistle but wanted to touch as much as i could to help others

I give thanks to Almighty God for everything

You got your phone line at Shoppers World Brampton? I see you representing, nice update smiley
