One time I borrowed my friend's swift just to test it to see wassup before buying, the thing didn't really work well like I envisaged so I just ditched the idea.

I also remember my former workplace when we tried getting swift for my team as backup, it never worked well. We were forced to dump it after they confirmed they have issue with our location.

I'm sure the management of MTN are not unaware of the risks inherent in the entrant of disruptors like Starlink into their market. Most big multinationals like MTN have a fully functional Risk Management team that assess and manage all forms of risks faced by the company ranging from operational risks, liquidity risk, credit risk, market risk, reputational risk etc.

In short they would've set in motion different risk management measures to manage such risk. What they they don't want is the FG springing a surprise on them with another round of taxation that will do their books dirty.(which the telecom tax will definitely do)

Nigerian's are yet to tap into the full potential of satellite technologies like Starlink, by the time they do, and players from China flood the market, MTN and similar network companies would be well under water, tax breaks or not.

Like the author opined, imposing the proposed 5% telecom tax on telecos will only add to the problems of telecom providers like MTN and the likes. When worse comes to worst, the investors will pull their funds and sell to whoever can perform magic to continue to thrive in the Nigerian hostile economy. People will certainly lose jobs and the company will lose customers to dem Starlink and the likes. The crazy part is that the starlink dem will not be paying Nigerian government a dime.
