Nairaland / General / Re: How Do You Call “christmas“ In Your Native Tongue? by bolayei: 3:02am On Dec 25, 2012
Funny though...all dialects call it christmas it sounds the way it does in different languages because of the accent the people from there have, e.g an ijaw person calls fish 'fiss' does not mean that is what fish is in ijaw its just the accent. And the word christmas is not as old as your language so can not be in your language.
Religion / Re: Are You Fully Conscious When Speaking In Tongues? by bolayei: 5:25pm On Dec 23, 2012
Speaking in tongue means speaking a language and speaking in tongues means speaking alot of languages and the reason for it was for different people to understand because their language was being spoken by atleast one person. Tongues in nigeria are yoruba, ibo, hausa, benin etc. So if you are conscious when speaking in tongues you should be able to know what language it is you are speaking. These christians that dont know the different between creating man and forming man how can you not know that speaking in tongues is speaking other languages? This fraud of a religion that even jesus didnt practice

ypzilanti:

Abeg, who imports that St Louis sugar? The only damn sugar in the whole Nigeria. A country of 140 million people, where everybody takes sugar. Is it Dangote?

St Louis sugar have been around before anyone knew Dangote. The thing is nigerians monopolise things themselves because they dont like taking risk and competition and dont like starting small. I wonder how many nigerians know Dangote does not have a single monopoly on any product?

mosun_ade: some folks see nothing good in what the government does. So, all they see in this policy is that its a ploy to make Dangote richer. Come on. Be objective for once, saying good about a policy when you see it doesnt reduce your worth, so, use your brain and forget this ploy to make Dangote rich balderdash.

My kinda of Nigerian...,infact take xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Business / Re: FG To Ban Packaged Sugar Importation In January by bolayei: 11:04am On Dec 18, 2012
Loool Nigerians..,Dangote must be very smart then if dem make the policy for Nigerians and Nigerians say na Dangote go smile go bank. Instead of looking for a good land to plant sugar cane and if you dont have money to turn it to sugar which is the finished product. You can sell your harvested sugar cane to manufacturers. If Dangote start producing sugar that is if he is not already doing so, you can sell your sugar cane to him and you are both smiling to the bank. Why da heck im i stuck in this country? this pikin dem grow quick abeg make man carry himself go house go chill for one village

I remember Fashola saying he is not planning to turn lagos to london because europeans dont live there.hawking is part of our culture and ways and if we check hawking have educated some nigerians, i dont understand this guy sometimes. we live abroad he visits, we can tell when he is getting it wrong. what if the yam seller is using a vehicle to pull his cart is that against the law and since when is an eye sore a crime or offence? so if i want to move my goods from one end to another manually using a cart or wheel barrow na crime or offence? Nigerians see those tokunbo cars with towing bars...? the bars are used to pull carts it doesnt really matter what is on or in the cart and no road restrictions. Na poor man still dey suffer for nigeria while the so called big men dey mess for their faces thats why when they come here we dey mess for their faces too because in my eyes they are thieves all of them

[quote author=Ticklishmummy]Please permit me to say that this is a mentality alien to the western world. This age thing is so strong it transcends beyond the workplace and its not uncommon to have ladies pick petty fights over who is older.I don't know what obtains in naija in terms of employee relations and engagement but I can tell you what obtains where I am.There is something called discrimination on the basis of age is a BIG NO in the workplace.Call it what you like but no one wants to know who is older, what's important is to get the job done. Now if anyone chooses to disclose their age to you and you are stupid enough to treat that person their age cos you think you are older, best be ready to accept whatever comes to you if any of your acts or utterances is termed unnaceptable by the younger party.

Unfortunately age never translates to money anywhere, wisdom? Yes,for a few![/quo

If u doubt pls go and check what's happened in Pakistan. I was so irritated by this information that I called a good friend of mine from Pakistan just to ask him what he thought of the idea. He just laughed and asked me if the soldiers being trained are Moslems and I told him yes, he then said "well looks like soon not just ur civilians would be terrorizing ur folks with bombs but maybe also ur military". I found that disheartening but he meant it.

Religion / Re: Do You Realise The Bible Was Compiled via A VOTE In Constantine's Palace? by bolayei: 5:46pm On Nov 17, 2012
the books in the bible are accurate accounts of events but some other books where omitted for certain reasons. books like the gospel of Judas and paul, the gospel of Mary magdalene. some omisions from the books we know today, some omissions about sorcery, women and even the story of the virgin mary was omitted and the fact that Eve was not the first woman and who cain married and how men and women are equal since woman was created sametime as adam from dust and not from his ribs. The truth is if you dig into christainity you will find out alot of things but at the sametime you will understand why constantine ordered for the book to be compiled by the bishop at that time
ROSSIKE: Far from being ''inspired by the Lord'', the Bible was actually compiled from a wide variety of writings, by a VOTE arranged by Emperor Constantine of Rome and his cohorts including some bishops.

They simply VOTED to allow certain writings to be included in the bible and VOTED to exclude certain others.

I wonder how many Nigerian christians carrying bible up and down actually realise this FACT of history.

My guess is less than 0.0001%.

Tragic.
Religion / Was Jesus Referring To Islam? by bolayei: 5:30pm On Nov 17, 2012
please people i need your honest and open minded post on this question

was Jesus referring to being a muslim when he said "unless a man is born again he will not enter the kingdom of God"?

Does islam really mean "to be born again"?

IS to be born again mean to give(submit, surrender, dedicate)your life to God

Does islam mean the same thing except in their own religion dont use the word God but ALLAH because of translation not to associate another name with ALLAH?

How comes you cant be a muslim if you dont believe in Jesus?

Please dont base your reply on the culture of the majority that practice islam or christainity because there is culture and tradition and there is religion
Foreign Affairs / Re: Are Blacks More Fixated On Colour Than Whites? by bolayei: 5:13pm On Nov 17, 2012
i like this post.. Obama won because he is black mainly, as much as we blacks discriminate against each other we still discriminate when it comes to other races we always prefer our own colour. I have always said BLACKS ARE THE MOST RACIST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD believe it or not. Try walking down some areas in London with a white girl and see how people will look at you like "what the eck are you doing", sameway we can never allow anyone that is not black rule our country even if you are mixed raced thats when you will probabaly hear people say "you are not fully black". There is absolutely nothing anyone can do about it its the way we are. Most black people in diaspora dont mix with other race or know about food from other race and have the same accent they had when they left their countries because they dont have to speak to white people because white people find it hard to understand strong african accent so your accent can only change naturally when you communicate to be understood.its us blacks that say things like Black is Beautiful but within our race we prefer the light skin ones so that saying is based on race not facts, Whites dont say White is Beautiful because they are more diverse than us.
Wizendy: I couldn’t stay up to watch the re-election of President Barak Obama.Much as I wanted to, I knew from my racing heartbeat, that it wasn’tthe wisest thing to do.

The last debate I watched, I had spent more time watching the voter’s reaction to the comments instead of enjoying the quality of thedebate. I knew then that I was, contrary to my profession, more involved than I needed to be. During the day, I had spent time getting in touch with my friends in the US and the UK. All, and I mean all, wanted Obama to win.

By 5.30am, I was roused from my sleep by ecstatic calls, telling me Obama had won. The relief that flowed through me was so strong that I wondered why. Obama in the final analysis, is an American who will always put American interests ahead of any other interest including that of Kenya, his ancestral home. His last four years neither benefited me nor my country. There are no indications that the next four will. So why am I so involved? I tried to tell myself that his policies were better and more inclusive; and that Mitt Romney was too shifty. But so what? Its still an American election.

After all, Al Gore was to me, a better candidate than George Bush. But I lost no sleep over his loss. I also felt that the dour Scot, Gordon Brown, was a better man tolead Britain out of its recession than the glib, handsome and empty David Cameron. America suffered economically, and in global perception, for its choice just as Britainis suffering economically for the decision to pick Cameron. For me, a bystander, nothing spoil. So why am I so passionate about this American election? Could it have something to do with the colour of Obama’s skin?

Later that Wednesday, I had a meeting with some veteran journalists. Those who had stayed up for the re-election, were bleary eyed from lack of sleep. But they all had this feel-good thing and they all expressed joy at the outcome of the election. Some were so passionate that I again wondered if itwould translate to anything positive for Nigeria. These were veterans who had been trained to be objective, even cynical sometimes. Yet, they couldn’t see anything wrong with Obama or anything right with Romney for that matter. And I thought, uneasily, if we were all routing for something other than the content of the head here.

Later, when the demographic analysis cameon CNN, it was discovered that over 90% blacks and over 75%Hispanics voted for Obama. Now, that is block voting. And all of us who are delirious, should ask ourselves if Obama would have won if the whites who constituted over 70% of the eligible voters, had block voted too. Our hero, reverend Luther King, admonished us to look at the content of the head (heart) and not the colour of the skin. Is that what we have done? Is that what we do? How many of us have turned on our TV sets to find a white guy and a black guy fight in a boxing contest and instinctively want the black guy to win? Same thing in a tennis tournament. These are not things to be proud of in the twenty-first century.

We must be honest and admit that, of recent, the whites have been more welcoming of content and more tolerant of colour than we have been. Britain has been so tolerant of different cultures that its own culture has been down played.
Travel / Re: 60 Nigerians Deported From UK Over various offences by bolayei: 10:43am On Nov 17, 2012
una thanks a lot o uk..,now this guys go know their full potentials because to survive in the uk illegally is harder to live in 9ja fulfilled because if you live the same lives and do the samething and same kind of jobs you do while in the uk you will be successful in nigeria as long as you dont let ppl get to you about not being a millionaire. And no man is a failure as i dont believe that man fails because things have to be in place for life to continue its cycle. Imagine if everyone was rich and get money the way we aspire then we will all die from lack of basics, ordinary water no go dey because who go sell am, even houses because who wan be bricklayer, plumber, mechanic, road sweeper, cleaner etc.so you see my people we cant all be rich. depending on them these guys can come back and realise what an average nigerian does not see and take advantage of it and even if na 2k him dey see daily for nigeria in a year he will save alot because in the uk ppl live different lives compared to nigerians as long as transport and food is sorted for the day and some money can be save and no extended family pressure they will make it. Its just a shame that the impression nigerians have does not make it possible for someone who is not in a good place abroad to go back home because of 'see finish'(over familiarity)and yabis that can lead one to depression.

even if na bus drivers these guys become in 2yrs they will expand because they have lived in an environment that made them realise that what goes on in nigeria happens worldwide and its part of life.

most great men that we know about that lived abroad did not go back to nigeria rich but they lived and live their life fulfilled and that on its own is wealth
