The police in Abuja have arrested a 30-year-old man, Blessing Augustine for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s one year old daughter.

Augustine, an indigene of Kogi State who resides in Lugbe Zone 4, Abuja was said to have committed the act on June 13, while pretending to be playing with her.

He was said to have poked his finger severally into the baby’s genital.

DAILY POST gathered that Augustine’s alleged act was discovered by the baby’s father who reported the matter to the police and the suspect was subsequently apprehended.

The one year old baby was taken to Gwarimpa General Hospital and Amaco Hospital, a private health hospital, where doctors in both places confirmed that she was sexually assaulted.

Narrating how he discovered the act, Nnamdi Chukwu, father of the baby said, “the ugly incident happened on June 13, 2015, when I heard my baby crying. I asked my wife to find out why the baby was crying. She said that Augustine told her that the little child saw a chicken and was frightened. But somehow the baby could not stop crying, which obvious­ly meant that she was in pain. So, I checked her thoroughly and saw little blood in her private part (genital).

Prior to this time, there was a day my wife was prepar­ing for a birthday party and had gone into the bathroom to bathe. Augustine came quietly to our room and carried the baby without her knowledge. When she heard the baby cry­ing, she asked Augustine, who responded that he was playing with the baby, so we didn’t suspect anything.


”But on that June 13, when the baby continued to cry in pain, after Augustine claimed that the baby saw a chicken, I took her to Gwarimpa Gen­eral Hospital, where a doctor examined her and confirmed that she was defiled.

”I immediately reported the matter at Lugbe Police Station and Augustine was arrested. We have lived in the same compound with him for about one year. I want justice to be done.”

Augustine who denied the allegation of molestation said he had severally taken the baby to his room to play but never carried out the act.

“I do play with the little baby.One day, she suddenly started crying and the mother asked me and I told her that the baby saw a chicken in the compound. I know always carry the baby from the room to the kitchen and play with her. I am the only person that always plays with her. I do carry the baby sometimes without the knowledge of the mother to my room and play with her. But I don’t know what they are saying that I molested the little baby. I don’t know who fingered (defiled) the baby and molested her.”
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Mr Wilson Inalegwu said the suspect would be charged to court when investigations into the matter are concluded.

The Boko Haram insurgency in North Nigeria has taken its toll on an innocent taxi driver who incidentally got arrested for his bravery.

In a report on Daily Post, residents of Maiduguri, Borno state, have faulted the arrest of a brave taxi driver, Rabiu Usman, popularly known as Billejo.
It was gathered that Usman reported to security his suspicion of one of his passengers that turned out to be a suicide bomber. He will however be misjudged as an ally to the terrorist group.

A resident who spoke on the matter said: “It is very unfortunate that instead of commending his effort at saving lives he was arrested by the military at Sector six and subsequently moved to Maimalari military cantonment at about 6pm on Monday.”

According to the report, Usman while heading for Maiduguri with his passengers was stopped by another passenger. On getting to a security checkpoint, he reported his suspicion before the bomber detonated himself.

Residents said there are strong fears that he might be persecuted despite his chivalry effort by exposing the insurgent, hence saving lives

Mexico's fugitive drug lord and his supporters hit back after Donald Trump threatens to "kick ass"

Joaquin "El Chapo" (Shorty) Guzman, the fugitive Mexican drug lord, appeared on Monday night to be taunting authorities and threatening US presidential hopeful Donald Trump while on the run.

The country's most notorious cartel leader broke out of a maximum-security jail at the weekend in a Hollywood-style escape that saw him scurrying down an elaborate, mile-long tunnel dug under his cell.

Guzman and his supporters wasted no time lambasting Mexican president Enrique Pena Nieto as a "coward" but reserved particular ire for Mr Trump, who has accused Mexico of sending rapists and criminals to America.

A post riddled with obscenities on a Twitter account, reportedly run by the drug lord's son Ivan, said the billionaire businessman would be made to "swallow his words".

That was immediately followed by a post suggesting someone would be killed, although it was not clear if that referred to Mr Trump. Associates who had betrayed Guzman were also targeted.

He posted a message to Mexican president Enrique Peña Nieto saying: ''And you @EPN, don't call me a delinquent because I give people work unlike you you cowardly politician.'

It could not be determined who had made the comments but the account went on to proclaim that "no cage could hold" El Chapo.

On a separate account linked to Ivan Guzman he had appeared to foretell his father's escape a week ago, saying: "Good things come to those who wait."

Guzman, who is believed to be 58, was widely considered the world's richest and most powerful drug trafficker before his capture, last year, and cultivated a Robin Hood image among his followers as he ruled over the Sinaloa cartel.

After he escaped guards at Altiplano prison, 55 miles west of Mexico City, entered his cell and found a hole 10 metres deep with a ladder.

It led to a tunnel a mile long and 1.7 metres high, which allowed the diminutive drug lord to walk upright to freedom.

Mr Trump had seized on the prison escape to back up his calls for a wall between the two countries, and said it proved the extent of corruption in Mexico.

He added: "Can you envision Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton negotiating with El Chapo...Trump, however, would kick his ass!"

The entrepreneur's poll numbers have been rising since last month when he began controversially attacking Mexican illegal immigrants as the cause of problems in the US.

He appeared to be unfazed after being targeted by Guzman and his supporters on social media.

Mr Trump responded: "El Chapo and the Mexican drug cartels use the border unimpeded like it was a vacuum cleaner, sucking drugs and death right into the US. We get the killers, drugs and crime, they get the money."

But Mr Trump said he had contacted the FBI to investigate the apparent threat.

The property mogul told TMZ: "I'm fighting for much more than myself. I'm fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals. You can't be intimidated. It's too important."

Rapper 50 Cent has filed for bankruptcy in the US, just days after being told by a court to cough up $5m in damages for posting someone else’s sex tape online.

The performer, real name Curtis James Jackson III, reported assets and liabilities in the range of $10m-$50min a filing to a court in Connecticut on Monday, the Wall Street Journal said.

On Friday, 50 Cent was ordered to pay damages to Lastonia Leviston after posting a video of her having sex with her then-boyfriend online in 2008. The rapper recorded a commentary to the 13-minute video, which he apparently obtained from Ms Leviston’s boyfriend.

Ms Leviston said she was horrified when the video went online. "This was something done to me. I didn't have a choice. I would never, ever do this to myself,” she testified.

The rapper’s lawyer William A Brewer III said on Friday that 50 Cent and his legal team were "disappointed in the verdict but very appreciative of the service of the jury and the court”, AP reported.

New York-born 50 Cent rose to fame with his 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin’, which reached number two in the UK charts.

50 Cent, who has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide, earned an estimated £100m after taking equity in energy drink company Glaceau, maker of Vitamin Water, which was subsequently sold to Coca-Cola in $4bn deal in 2007.

MEXICO CITY — In a scheme befitting a crime novel, Mexico's most powerful drug lord, Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, escaped from a maximum security prison through a 1.5-kilometer (1 mile) tunnel that opened into the shower area of his cell, the country's top security official announced Sunday.

The elaborate, ventilated escape hatch built allegedly without the detection of authorities allowed Guzman to do what Mexican officials promised would never happen after his re-capture last year — slip out of one of the country's most secure penitentiaries for the second time.

Eighteen employees from various part of the Altiplano prison 55 miles (90 kilometers) west of Mexico City have been taken in for questioning, Security Commissioner Monte Alejandro Rubido said in a news conference without answering questions.

A manhunt began immediately late Saturday for the head of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel, which has an international reach and is believed to control most of the major crossing points for drugs at the U.S. border with Mexico.

Associated Press journalists near the Altiplano saw the roads were being heavily patrolled by Federal Police with numerous checkpoints and a Blackhawk helicopter flying overhead. Flights were also suspended at Toluca airport near the penitentiary in the State of Mexico, and civil aviation hangars were being searched.

Guzman was last seen about 9 p.m. Saturday in the shower area of his cell, according to a statement from the National Security Commission. After a time, he was lost by the prison's security camera surveillance network. Upon checking his cell, authorities found it empty and a 20-by-20-inch (50-by-50 centimeter) hole near the shower.

Guzman's escape is a major embarrassment to the administration of President Enrique Pena Nieto, which had received plaudits for its aggressive approach to top drug lords. Since the government took office in late 2012, Mexican authorities have nabbed or killed six of them, including Guzman.

Guzman faces multiple federal drug trafficking indictments in the U.S. as well as Mexico, and was on the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's most-wanted list.

After Guzman was arrested on Feb. 22, 2014, the U.S. said it would file an extradition request, though it's not clear if that happened.

The Mexican government at the time vehemently denied the need to extradite Guzman, even as many expressed fears he would escape as he did in 2001 while serving a 20-year sentence in the country's other top-security prison, Puente Grande, in the western state of Jalisco.

Former Mexican Attorney General Jesus Murillo Karam told the AP earlier this year that the U.S. would get Guzman in "about 300 or 400 years" after he served time for all his crimes in Mexico. Murillo Karam said sending Guzman to the United States would save Mexico a lot of money, but keeping him was a question of national sovereignty.

He dismissed concerns that Guzman could escape a second time. That risk "does not exist," Murillo Karam said.

It was difficult to believe that such an elaborate structure could have been built without the detection of authorities. According to Rubido, the tunnel terminated in a house under construction in a neighborhood near the prison. Guzman dropped by ladder into a hole 10 meters (yards) deep that connected with a tunnel about 1.7 meters (yards) high that was fully ventilated.

Guzman is known for the elaborate tunnels his cartel has built underneath the Mexico-U.S. border to transport cocaine, methamphetamines and marijuana, with ventilation, lighting and even railcars to easily move products.

He was first caught by authorities in Guatemala in 1993, extradited and sentenced to 20 years in prison on drug-trafficking-related charges. Many accounts say he escaped in a laundry cart, although there have been several versions of how he got away. What is clear is that he had help from prison guards, who were prosecuted and convicted.

Guzman was finally re-captured in February 2014 after eluding authorities for days across his home state of Sinaloa, for which the cartel is named. He was listed as 56 years old last year, though there are discrepancies in his birth date.

During his first stint as a fugitive, Guzman transformed himself from a middling Mexican capo into arguably the most powerful drug trafficker in the world. His fortune grew to be estimated at more than $1 billion, according to Forbes magazine, which listed him among the "World's Most Powerful People" and ranked him above the presidents of France and Venezuela.

Guzman has long been known for his ability to pay off local residents and authorities, who would tip him off to operations launched for his capture. He finally was tracked down to a modest beachside high-rise in the Pacific Coast resort city of Mazatlan on Feb. 22, 2014, where he had been hiding with his wife and twin daughters. He was taken in the early morning without a shot fired.

But before they reached him, security forces went on a several-day chase through Culiacan, the capital of Sinaloa state. They found houses where Guzman supposedly had been staying with steel-enforced doors and the same kind of lighted, ventilated tunnels that allowed him to escape from a bathroom to an outside drainage ditch.

Even with his 2014 capture, Guzman's Sinaloa Cartel empire continues to stretch throughout North America and reaches as far away as Europe and Australia. The cartel has been heavily involved in the bloody drug war that has torn through parts of Mexico for the last decade, taking at least an estimated 100,000 lives.

Altiplano, which is considered the main and most secure of Mexico's federal prisons, also houses Zetas drug cartel leader Miguel Angel Trevino, and Edgar Valdes Villarreal, known as "La Barbie," of the Beltran Leyva cartel.

A coroner’s inquest court in Lagos State has indicted the head of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN), Prophet T.B. Joshua, over last year’s collapse of a guesthouse in his church premises that claimed close to 120 lives, most of the victims South Africans.
The coroner recommended that the contractor be prosecuted for doing a shady and unprofessional job. The magistrate also ruled that the DPO in Ikotun area, Alaba Haruna, should be transferred out of the area for not allowing proper investigation into the case.

Also, the magistrate said the Church, headed by Prophet T.B. Joshua should be duly investigated for culpability in the faulty building construction.

Oregon residents aged 21 and older can now smoke privately, grow up to four plants and posses up to eight ounces (227 grams) at home and one ounce outside home, the Liquor Control Commission said.

Driving while high remains illegal and pot cannot be transported out of state, even to neighboring Washington, where retailing started last year, the commission said.

Public smoking also remains illegal, but there were no immediate reports of arrests at the Portland bridge.

Regulators will start accepting business license applications in January, with stores slated for next fall.

After an absence of roughly 2000 years the Star of Bethlehem may soon be making a return to our night skies on June 30, 2015 — to be more specific Venus and Jupiter will be making their tightest highly visible conjunction in nearly two millennia.

The reference to the Star of Bethlehem is with regard to the fact that there was a very similar ultratight conjunction between the two — and close by the star Regulus (as this one will be), and high up in the sky (as this will be as well) — in 3-2 BC. Some astronomers have in the past speculated that this earlier conjunction is what the “Star of Bethlehem” referred to.


At the very least this conjunction will make for a very impressive sight in the night’s sky. The two bright planets have already begun moving closer and closer together in the last evening sky over the past month, this convergence will continue until the evening of June 30, 2015. Those interested should look in the western portion of the evening sky to see the conjunction. Roughly an hour or so after sunset is probably a good time — but obviously there’s some flexibility there.

Relatively close to this conjunction will be one of the brightest stars in the constellation of the Lion, the star Regulus. As mentioned above, the ultratight Jupiter-Venus conjunction back around 3-2 BC was also located near this very bright star.


While the tightest conjunction will be on the night/evening of June 30, there’ll be a week or so of impressive sights in the days before and after the conjunction.

On the night of June 30th the two planets will so close enough together that they’ll appear to a very bright “double star” — with the outstretched tip of a pinky finger reportedly being enough to cover both up.

Worth noting is that while the two planets vary considerably in size, they’ll appear roughly the same size in the night’s sky owing to Venus being considerably closer than Jupiter. For those wondering, Venus is the brighter one that moves around more (as it follows the Sun around on its path through the sky).
