Sports / NFF Appoints Ikpeme Acting Gen. Sec., Postpones League Resumption by Campaignarena: 10:27am On Jul 18, 2018
The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by Chris Giwa, has appointed Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme Acting General Secretary of the football house following corruption allegation levelled against former General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

It was learnt that the announcement was made on Tuesday night after an exhaustive meeting of the NFF Executive Committee at the football secretariat in Abuja.

Sanusi had been mandated to step aside sequel to investigations into allegations of financial corruption levelled against him to give way for the appointment of an acting scribe pending when the Executive Committee will announce a substantive General Secretary.

The Chairman, Communique Drafting Committee, Otunba Dele Ajayi, who addressed newsmen after their meeting, said the present NFF leadership had decided to restore match bonuses and allowances to all age group teams.

“We are new in office, we have to collate records and when we are done with that we will let you know.

“If we say we are restoring the match bonuses and allowances of all age group teams, it does not mean we will pay arrears immediately.

“The board will meet to decide whether to pay outstanding debts to the teams or continue on a clean slate.

“We will later fashion out a way to pay the outstanding debts and we are starting again to pay allowances to the age grade teams,” Dele Ajayi said.

Science/Technology / Jupiter Now Has 79 Planet Moons-researchers by Campaignarena: 10:20am On Jul 18, 2018
Researchers have said that Jupiter, the oldest and largest planet, has 79 planet moons with the latest discovery of 12 new ones.

U.S. researchers announced the discovery of 12 new moons orbiting Jupiter, bringing the total number of the planet’s known moons to 79.

The discovery means Jupiter, the oldest and largest planet in the solar system, has more moons than any of the other seven.

Scott Sheppard of the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington and his team discovered the moons more than a year ago while looking for a possible massive planet beyond Pluto.

“Jupiter just happened to be in the sky near the search fields where we were looking for extremely distant solar system objects,” Sheppard said, according to a Carnegie Institution news release.

The team was able to look for new moons “serendipitously,” he added.

Politics / PDP To Buhari: You Cannot Rig 2019 General Elections Like Ekiti by Campaignarena: 10:52am On Jul 17, 2018
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress (APC) not to “mistake the rigging in Ekiti as acceptance by Nigerians,” saying that will not be allowed to happen in next year general elections

PDP warned that it will not allow such rigging during the 2019 Presidential election.

The opposition party said it was “shameful for President Muhammadu Buhari, who claims to be an anti-corruption champion, to glee over acts of electoral corruption that can truncate our democratic process.”

In a statement by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, the opposition party said it found as strange that President Buhari could not “condemn the emasculation and subversion of the will of Ekiti people and the stealing of another party’s victory by brute force.”

PDP also noted the “unsavoury statements by the Presidency, celebrating the subjugation of Ekiti people as a stamp for President Buhari, wherein it further boasted of a triumph for the President in the 2019 general election.”

“If for President Buhari and the APC, the subjugation of the people, as witnessed in Ekiti, amounts to an election, then the nation is headed to a serious crisis, as such will be resisted with all legitimate force available within our laws in the defence of our nation’s democracy,”the statement reads.

Politics / EFCC To Fayose: You Will Face Trial After Leaving Office by Campaignarena: 10:06am On Jul 17, 2018
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State will face criminal trial after his tenure.

This was confirmed by the agency’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, in a statement on Monday.

Uwujaren, however, made it clear that it is the Federal High Court and not the EFCC, that will determine Fayose’s fate.

“While it is true that there is a subsisting criminal charge against Governor Fayose, the fate of the charge will be determined by the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, at the expiration of his tenure, not the EFCC,” he said.

Hours after Kayode Fayemi was announced winner of the election, the EFCC posted a tweet on its official Twitter handle, that it would resurrect a poultry scandal involving the governor.

The tweet was later taken down, following a barrage of criticism from Nigerians, including Fayose’s media aide.

It would be recalled that EFCC said it will call three witnesses to prove that Abiodun Agbele, an associate of Governor Fayose o is guilty of the eleven-count charge preferred against him and three others.

Properties / 44 Confirmed Dead, Others Missing In Katsina Flood Disater by Campaignarena: 9:57am On Jul 17, 2018
Governor of Katsina State, Aminu Masari on Monday confirmed that 44 lives were lost, while 20 people were missing in the overnight rainstorm that ravaged Katsina State border town of Jibia.

The rainstorm was said to have started about 11 pm on Sunday and lasted over two hours.

The governor, who made the disclosure at a press conference in Katsina, said he had never seen such a disaster in his life.

He said, “You need to go there, it was a real disaster. As of the time we left Jibia, no less than 44 people were confirmed dead while over 500 houses were completely damaged.

“I have informed the President about the incident and he has called to sympathise with the people.

“As a government, we shall find permanent solutions to the problem.

“We know Jibia is a flood-prone area and we build drainage. But what happened was that instead of water to flow to the river through the drainage, water from the river was flowing back into the drainage, thereby causing the flooding during the rainstorm.

“We are going to redirect the water flow and I have passed out necessary instructions.

“We have also taken measures to ameliorate the sufferings of the victims.

“The National Emergency Management Agency has also been duly informed and they are sending relief materials to the victims.”

Sports / Dalung Dares FIFA, Insists On Giwa As NFF President by Campaignarena: 9:50am On Jul 17, 2018
Nigeria’s Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung has insisted that Chris Giwa remains the president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), as was declared by the Supreme Court judgment made on April 27, 2018.

Last week, FIFA president Gianni Infantino, warned that Nigeria risked a ban as the world football governing body only recognises Amaju Pinnick as the president of the NFF.

“If any external body thinks that they can change the situation, then of course Nigeria will risk being banned as it has happened with other countries because we have processes that need to be respected. It’s a very clearcut and simple case. We have made this very clear,” Infantino said.
