#7. Labrador Retriever

The Labrador Retriever (simply Labrador, or Lab for short) is one of several kinds of retriever, a type of gun dog. Even-tempered and well-behaved around young children and the elderly, Labradors are athletic and playful, and are the most popular breed of dog by registered ownership in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States (since 1991). A favorite assistance dog breed in these and other countries, Labradors are frequently trained to aid blind and autistic people, act as therapy dogs, and perform screening and detection work for law enforcement and other official agencies.

Labradors are relatively large, with males typically weighing 29 to 41 kg (64 to 90 lb) and females 25 to 32 kg (55 to 71 lb).

Labradors' sense of smell allows them to hone in on almost any scent and follow the path of its origin. They generally stay on the scent until they find it. Navies, military forces and police forces use them as detection dogs to track down smugglers, thieves, terrorists and black marketers.

#8. Papillon

The Papillon (from the French word for butterfly, pronounced: [papiˈjɔ̃]), also called the Continental Toy Spaniel, is a breed of dog of the Spaniel type. One of the oldest of the toy spaniels, it derives its name from its characteristic butterfly-like look of the long and fringed hair on the ears. A Papillon with dropped ears is called a Phalène (French for moth).

The small head is slightly rounded between the ears with a well defined stop. The muzzle is somewhat short, thin tapering to the nose. The dark, medium sized, round eyes have thin black rims, often extending at the junction of the eyelids towards the ears. The large ears can either be erect or dropped with rounded tips. The teeth meet in a scissors bite. The long tail is set high carried over the body, and covered with long, fine hair. Dewclaws are sometimes removed. The straight, long, fine, single coat has extra frill on the chest, ears, back of the legs and the tail. Coat color is white with patches of any color. A mask of a color other than white covers both ears and eyes from back to front.

#9. Rottweiler

The Rottweiler is a medium to large size breed of domestic dog. The dogs were known as "Rottweil butchers' dogs" (German: Rottweiler Metzgerhund) because they were used to herd livestock and pull carts laden with butchered meat and other products to market.

The Rottweiler was employed in its traditional roles until the mid-19th century when railways replaced droving for herding livestock to market. While still used in herding, Rottweilers are now also used as search and rescue dogs, as guide dogs for the blind, as guard dogs or police dogs, and in other roles.
Although a versatile breed used in recent times for many purposes, the Rottweiler is primarily one of the oldest, if not the oldest of herding breeds.

A Rottweiler is self-confident and responds quietly and with a wait-and-see attitude to influences in its environment. It has an inherent desire to protect home and family, and is an intelligent dog of extreme hardness and adaptability with a strong willingness to work, making them especially suited as a companion, guardian and general all-purpose dog

#10. Australian Cattle Dog

The Australian Cattle Dog (ACD or Cattle Dog), is a breed of herding dog originally developed in Australia for driving cattle over long distances across rough terrain. In the 19th century, New South Wales cattle farmer Thomas Hall crossed the dogs used by drovers in his parents' home county, Northumberland, with dingoes he had tamed. The resulting dogs were known as Halls Heelers. After Hall's death in 1870, the dogs became available beyond the Hall family and their associates, and were subsequently developed into two modern breeds, the Australian Cattle Dog and the Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog. Robert Kaleski was influential in the Cattle Dog's early development, and wrote the first standard for the breed.

When on home ground, the Australian Cattle Dog is a happy, affectionate, and playful pet. However, it is reserved with people it does not know and naturally cautious in new situations. Its attitude to strangers makes it an excellent guard dog when trained for this task, and it can be socialised to become accustomed to a variety of people from an early age as a family pet.

Country of Origin: Australia (Where else will Australian Cattle Dog come from?)

The Intelligence of Dogs is a book on dog intelligence by Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

Coren defines three aspects of dog intelligence in the book:

1) Instinctive intelligence refers to a dog's ability to perform the tasks it was bred for, such as herding, pointing, fetching, guarding, or supplying companionship.

2) Adaptive intelligence refers to a dog's ability to solve problems on its own.

3) Working and obedience intelligence refers to a dog's ability to learn from humans.

When Coren's list of breed intelligence first came out there was much media attention and commentary both pro and con. However over the years the ranking of breeds and the methodology used have come to be accepted as a valid description of the differences among dog breeds in terms of the trainability aspect of dog intelligence.

Below are the “intelligence brackets”:

Brightest Dogs
• Understanding of New Commands: Fewer than 5 repetitions.
• Obey First Command: 95% of the time or better.

Excellent Working Dogs
• Understanding of New Commands: 5 to 15 repetitions.
• Obey First Command: 85% of the time or better.

Above Average Working Dogs
• Understanding of New Commands: 15 to 25 repetitions.
• Obey First Command: 70% of the time or better.

Average Working/Obedience Intelligence
• Understanding of New Commands: 25 to 40 repetitions.
• Obey First Command: 50% of the time or better.

Fair Working/Obedience Intelligence
• Understanding of New Commands: 40 to 80 repetitions.
• Obey First Command: 30% of the time or better.

Lowest Degree of Working/Obedience Intelligence
(I guess these ones just eat and stare at you! LOL!)

Below is a list of the top 10 brightest dogs (from the topmost category). . .

Car Talk / BMW Drivers Are The Most Aggressive On The Roads by canuck(m): 7:22am On Aug 15, 2013
Men who drive blue BMWs are more likely to be aggressive than motorists in any other car, a study claims.

The likeliest road rage culprits are men aged 35-50 with blue BMW cars, the study of 2,837 motorists found. Drivers also reported run-ins with owners of Land Rovers, Audis, Subarus and Vauxhalls.

Blue was seen as the most aggressive colour, followed by black, silver, green and red. Men said they lost their temper behind the wheel seven times a month on average, while women got angry on only three occasions.

Drivers most often expressed road rage by shouting and swearing, followed by erratic driving and obscene gestures, the study for discount website VoucherCodesPro revealed.

Motorists were asked the pick the make and colour of car from which they have experienced the most incidents of road rage - and blue BMWs came out on top.

CBN Donates N500m for Renovation of Secondary School

In fulfillment of the pledge made earlier this year, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has donated N500 million for the renovation of Dukku Community Science Secondary School in Dukku Local Government Area of Gombe State.

CBN governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi made the pledged February this year when he visited the palace of the Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed II to congratulate him on his turbanning as the Emir of Dukku.

A statement signed and made available to the press by the media officer of Dukku Local Government Council, Kabiru Muhammad, indicates that the CBN letter of renovation of the school was presented to the Emir by Suleiman Kumo Muhammad.

It also indicates that the CBN would be sending its consultant to monitor the renovation project from start to finish.

In his remark, the Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Rasheed II appreciated the initiative of the CBN governor and for initiating good programmes across the country.

Also appreciating the gesture, chairman of the local government, Alhaji Umar Ladan advised the people to always support and respect their leaders in any aspect of life.

On the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE – P, projects in his area, the chairman applauded the federal and state governments for giving them the free hand to execute projects which have direct impact on the lives of the people.

He expressed satisfaction over the projects which he said had attained 85 percent completion but urged the various contractors to speed up work in order to complete them in good time.

Among the various projects are rural electrification, health centres, renovation of primary school blocks, staff quarters and drainages.

Alhaji Haruna Rasheed II was a staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria but resigned to sit on the traditional stool.

Thanks for you candid reply, i will get the books recommended and act on the quote in bold for i see that as a major challenge.

My brother it is not easy been a formal man i must confess.

LOL! So true.

However, just like every social setting, the office has its norms and "unwritten rules" that can make or mar you.

You learned to excel on the streets; you can learn to be successful in the office too.

Here's a tip: Become an "apprentice" to someone you admire regarding the mastery of formality. Watch him/her closely and begin to model the behavior. If you have access, request to be mentored by this person.

@ OP

Where will I start? You touched on a number of issues:

1) Professional dressing
2) Communication
3) Handling contrary viewpoints
4) Persuasive presentation ('state and defend my case')
5) Emotional intelligence

I may come back to add specific tips, but I think you need a major overhaul of your personality - Good news is that you have taken the most difficult step: Admitting that there is a problem.

The next steps will be easier and your growth will be transformational, if you stick to the principle of constant improvement.

Below are some of the books that have helped me in the past. Bookshops in Nigeria carry many of them, or you may buy online at, say, www.amazon.com

a) The Rules of Work - Richard Templar
b) You, Inc.: The Art of Selling Yourself - Harry Beckwith
c) The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People - Stephen R. Covey
d) People Skills: How to Assert Yourself, Listen to Others, and Resolve Conflicts - Robert Bolton
e) It's the Way You Say It: Becoming Articulate, Well-spoken, and Clear - Carol A. Fleming
f) Emotional Intelligence: Why It Can Matter More Than IQ - Daniel Goleman

"We are changed by what we read. Close that book, and you are not the same person anymore. Because of what you just read, your worldview - your understanding, your compassion for others, your ability to engage intelligently with others -has expanded a little. Books help us grow." - Pat Williams

I wish you the very best as you reinvent yourself

I BID YOU FAREWWELL

I am grateful to God that I will rest in His bosom and I am more grateful because I have always wanted this opportunity to speak my mind even unto death. [Truncated due to space limitation]

I am Yetunde nee Olotu as I am fondly called by my immediate family in Nigeria but here I am being referred to as Omodolapo Jagha as named by the love of my life. Now, I am Dolapo GoodGod, the surname I adopted when I realized that I no longer have a husband who will be there for me. The very man I should expect to be the Master of ceremony at my burial, the man you think would miss my departure the most but unfortunately not. I believe my estranged husband is glad that he is now free from the bondage called marriage.

Noble Jagha, I hope you feel so happy now that your prophesy to Maryam Hassan and other girlfriends of yours that I will soon die so you can marry them is now fulfilled. The truth is that my body may be dead but my hope of glory in heaven is constant as God lives. I may not be here again but I am so sure you will never find anyone to love you the way I did……

You were my first love, the very man who deflowered me but turned his back on me years after that I was not good on bed (not sexy enough for you), I was not good at cooking but I managed to learn and cook your local meal of Starch and Banga. He said, “I was so paranoid” because I complained that you are only comfortable making phone calls in the car and returning home at midnight. You finally abandoned me and the children in December, 2012 after all the mental and physical abuse I suffered from you. You could not face the wrath of law as I got a safety and protection order against you because I was afraid that you would eventually take my life. While you lived with us, you were of no use, as you were not readily available to do your matrimonial and fatherly duties. How painful it was to take the twins to school walking all the way from Ongar to Little Pace, sometimes after getting a chemo. Even when I pleaded with you to look after the kids when I have appointments at the hospital you refused. [Truncated due to space limitation]

Oti, how do you feel after physically and mentally tormenting me? You can now be happy that “the living corpse” (as you often referred to me) in your home has finally gone to be with God. You no longer have to hit me or pounce on me anymore. In death I have forgiving you because I loved you but I hope you are able to forgive yourself…….? I cannot forget in a minute how I felt so let down that I took to my heels and sought refuge in that sister’s place and later on at the women’s refuge. I am sure your defense is that I died as a cancer patient but I believe I could live a day longer if you were there for me…… I went through the pains of Cancer lonely! Rather than supporting, you rejected me. Isn’t marriage meant to be for better or for worse.….? [Truncated due to space limitation]

How could you ill-treat your own children because they are girls? I have all the horrible text messages you sent to me documented; psychologically you killed me before my death.

Pastor Jagha, a man of God! The church has failed in their duty to help you from fallen, they have pampered you for doing wrong in order to save their face and invariably they have failed me…[Truncated due to space limitation]
The bitter pill that I have to swallow is the fact that I can no longer be there for my lovely girls. Their beloved father despised them so because I could not make a male child (you claimed that I was unable to have a boy child because I did not drink from the anointing oil which you asked me to drink and that makes you detest me too). I am deeply sorry that I did not drink it; maybe that would have spared me of some lashes. Our lovely first daughter at age twelve said, “Mummy I don’t think I will get married” This is as a result of the abuse that my child suffered from our marriage… If you are a loved one and you know my daughter, please help me say to her that marriage is to be enjoyed and not endured….. I want her to be married and make me proud!

[Truncated due to space limitation]

Noble Jagha, you wanted me dead as soon as possible. I still wonder why you refused to come with me for separation times and again when I asked that we should part ways. I know your intent may be to make gains from my years of labour at Anpost. I worked so hard to pay the rent, to feed us and even paid some of your fees to pursue your MBA. Despite all my effort you were never satisfied, even on my sick bed you demanded for money…..[Truncated due to space limitation]

1. That you may put in trust/fixed deposit for my daughters all monies raised from my burial and benefits from my workplace having paid all expenses incurred and other personal loan taking from my friends during my period of illness. My daughters need to know I care for them even in my grave.
2. That, I have a will in which I have named the executors to my will and joint custodians of our children. The lawyer will keep you posted in due course, please adhere!
3. Oti you can also pay any money that you owe from the monies before the account is opened.
4. Kindly pay my mother the money you owe her too before the account is fixed.
5. I want my mother to be a part of my children’s life, please don’t deprive her.
6. Oti make peace with my family and friends (stop making enemies out of the people that helps me).

[Truncated due to space limitation]

I hope my mother can forgive me for not heeding her advice in respect of my choice of marriage and I pray that God gives her and my father the fortitude to bear this irreparable lost.
It is too late to cry when the head is off.

Thank you for not leaving me alone in my time of troubles and needs my sisters, thank you sister for going to Olive’s school, please follow up with Emmanuel as planned, I don’t want my children to suffer. I am so worried …..I am tired.
I don’t want you people to go, don’t leave me alone. I want someone to sleep here with me tonight.

signed.
Omodolapo GoodGod

Heather McGill, Wife of Alabama Sen. Shadrack McGill, Warns on Facebook to Keep Off Her Man

A politician's wife who took to Facebook to warn women to stay away from her husband said a "righteous anger" pushed her to write a post that has now gone viral.

"I know that I can't bring about change in other people's lifestyles but I can protect my household, my husband and my children," Heather McGill, the wife of Alabama state Sen. Shadrack McGill, told ABC News.

Heather McGill logged on to her husband's Facebook page Monday night to write a post targeted at the women she claims are soliciting her husband, a Republican who has served in the Senate since 2010, for sex.

"Multiple times since being in office he has gotten emails from women (who may not even be real) inviting him to explore, also sending pictures of themselves. NO MORE!!!," McGill wrote. "We have children that look at our face books from time to time! Shame on you!"

Sen. McGill told ABC News that, during his 2010 campaign, strippers arrived at his family's home in the middle of the night and that, since being elected, he has received numerous photos on Facebook of scantily clad women.

Heather McGill said it was the latest photo, one posted just last Sunday, that drove her to write the post in which she warned the women, "Next time everyone will know who you are!! For I will publicly share your name before we 'unfriend' you."

"I had looked on my husband's Facebook page yesterday and again there was another picture and another email," she told ABC News. "Being that we have daughters, I guess a righteous anger rose up in me to protect my family."

The McGills have been married for 14 years and have six children together. They are also foster parents.

Heather McGill called the type of unwanted attention her husband has received, "the 'behind-the-scenes' garbage that political life brings."

Despite the attention and strain placed on his family, Sen. McGill said he was prepared for the next campaign season.

"I was a novice the first time but this time I've got my feet under me," he said.
