Religion / Fulani Man Feared Dead After Converting To Christianity by captainjerry: 6:00am On Oct 29, 2020
A Fulani man, Alkassim Adams, who converted to Christianity in Plateau State, has gone missing days after visiting his family house in Rankum Village.
Adams went home for the first time in months for the burial of his father on Monday, October 5, 2020, along with two of his friends and fellow Fulani converts but never returned.
The three were abducted and threatened with death to renounce their faith.
When they resisted, the two were shot on the spot while Adams was taken away.
Adams, a student of COCIN Bible School, Zaria, Kaduna State, has however remained in captivity and is only likely being spared for being a native. His lines were only reachable for the first two days and the police are yet to trace his whereabouts nearly two weeks after his disappearance.
Officials of the COCIN Bible School in Zaria said before he vanished, Adams took permission to attend his father’s funeral. They added that in the early days of his conversion, he was almost lynched — only narrowly escaping death. This is not the first time the herdsmen will attack one of their own for converting to a different faith. Daily Times gathered that a young man was abducted and killed in Rankum Village about five years ago for converting to Christianity.

Politics / Blaming Buhari For Hardship, High Cost Of Food Items — Gov Badaru by captainjerry: 4:26am On Aug 25, 2020
Jigawa State Governor, Mohammadu Badaru
Abubakar said that Nigerians should no longer
blame President Muhammadu Buhari ‘s
administration for the current scarcity of the
foreign exchange, saying that the problem was
traceable to the fact that Nigeria ‘is a chronic
importer’
He said this while commending the Minister of
Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali
Ibrahim Pantami on the commissioning of 12
digital projects build by the Nigerian
Communications Commission, NCC, National
Information Technology Development Agency,
NITDA and other agencies under the ministry.

He insisted that President Muhammadu Buhari
should not be blamed for the hardship in the
country and the high cost of food items and
other goods in the market, stating that the
previous administrations failed to create a buffer
for the preservation of naira against dollar, hence
the scarcity of dollar in the money market and
rising cost of goods.
‘‘In the last five years of the previous
administration, oil was averaged at $100 per
barrel, our five year probably $50 per barrel on
average. At least with half of the resources
available to Muhammadu Buhari, we have achieved
a lot.
‘‘The ministry of aviation has completed 150
projects in four years and still counting with half
of the resources so is the same story in other
ministries. Today, we can proudly say, five years of
Buhari administration and five years of previous
administration if analyzed, I am sure it will be
confirmed that we have done well with lesser
resources available.
‘‘In trade and investment, we are increasing our
non-oil export by the day, a good strategy. And
again our Ease of Doing Business, we are
improving in the ranking, so many industries are
coming up.
In my state alone, we have seen industrial
revolution for export substitution. If we take the
statistics and compare them with the last five
years, I am sure we will see government of
President Muhammadu Buhari has done very well.
‘‘The ministry of works is constructing about
500 roads in housing, many projects are ongoing
across the country.
‘‘The problem is that there was no import
substitution, no clear agenda to be realized to
reduce import substitution during the last
administration. We kept making money without
savings, we relied heavily on importation.
“We blame Buhari but he did not cause drop in
oil price. We have to import with dollars because
the past leaders have been chronic importers, we
have to import everything we need. Not only
import, we rely heavily on available few dollars.
‘‘The foreign reserve was 29bn dollars when we
came in, we could not dip hand into the reserve.
This was the genesis of things being expensive. I
do not see where Buhari is responsible. He is not
responsible for drop in price of oil, we have to
blame past leaders, who know that oil can never
be stable.
“They had opportunity to dip hand in the reserve
and stabilize our currency but did not save for
the future and they have the audacity to
shamelessly accuse Buhari for high cost of
commodities.
‘‘Any fair minded Nigerian will know that
president Buhari has delivered on his mandate and
deserve our commendation. We have done
wonderfully well and will soon blow our trumpet for
people to see.
“Nigerians should come out with the truth and
stop listening to propaganda and trace our
problems to the roots. He is not the one who
killed the rabbit, he was asked to carry the dead
rabbit.’

people fall in love . At 56 , I don ’ t need marriage

Politics / 386 Injured Soldiers, Others Quit Military by captainjerry: 7:37am On Aug 16, 2020
INSECURITY: At last, 386 injured soldiers, others quit military

The controversy over 386 soldiers who applied to disengage from the military amid the battle against bandits, terrorists and kidnappers in parts of the country may be over after the authorities fixed their exit date as January 3, 2021.

But they will proceed on terminal leave on December 3, 2020.

Sunday Vanguard learnt at the weekend that affected soldiers include those who have attained retirement age and others who are medically challenged as a result of the injuries they sustained in the battle against bandits and terrorists in parts of the country.

The personnel’s application for voluntary retirement and disengagement from service on medical grounds had stoked controversy after it was alleged in some quarters that it may not be unconnected with poor welfare conditions and adequate military hardware to tackle the myriad of security threats facing the nation.

But the authorities punctured the claim, saying it was the right of the personnel to apply for voluntary discharge on medical grounds and other approved guidelines in accordance with military terms and conditions of service.

According to a letter, dated August 12, 2020, and titled ‘Approval for Voluntary and Medical Discharge Soldiers for First and Second Quarters 2020’, the Army, said the 386 discharged soldiers were of 1979 Nigerian Army intakes and others.

The letter, addressed to the Nigerian Army Special Forces Command, Nasarawa, and copied to various military formations where the soldiers are currently serving, referenced the Harmonized Terms and Conditions of Service of the Armed Forces (2017 Revised).

Among others, the letter sighted by Sunday Vanguard, said, “In compliance with Reference A, the COAS has approved the voluntary/medical discharge of one Master Warrant Officer and 385 others.

“The soldiers are to proceed on terminal leave from December 3, 2020 while their disengagement takes effect from January 3, 2021 in accordance with the Nigerian Army Administrative Policy and Procedure number 27, Paragraph 3 and 4”.

Consequently, it directed all army formations and units to release the 386 affected soldiers to the Army Headquaters Garrison, Abuja, for documentation not later than October 1, 2020.

The formations and units are also to ensure that all forms of military controlled items, including arms, ammunition, uniforms and items of combat kits, are recovered from the soldiers prior to their disengagement date and certify that they are properly de-kitted.

Furthermore, they should complete all necessary documents in regards to withdrawals of NAWIS (Nigerian Army Welfare Insurance Scheme), BENFUND (Benevolent Fund Contributions), and National Mortgage Contributions.

The letter was copied to the Defence Headquarters, the National Defence College, the Nigeria Defence Academy, the Defence Intelligence Agency, the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, the Military Pensions Board and the Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command among others.

The letter, earlier requesting the voluntary retirement of the Master Warrant Officer and 385 other soldiers based on medical grounds and other pecuniary reason as contained in the TACOS, and submitted to the office of the Chief of Army Staff through the office of the Chief of Administration, was dated July 2, 2020.

Mr Mitika Mafa-Ali, the NAPTIP Zonal Head in
charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara states

Religion / MURIC Condemns ‘christianisation’ Of Oyo TESCOM Examination's by captainjerry: 8:06pm On Aug 14, 2020
A NIGERIAN Islamic human rights association, the
Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) yesterday accused
the officials of the Oyo State Teaching Service
Commission (TESCOM) of Christianising the CBT
examination organised to screen applicants for
teaching appointments in the state.

MURIC alleged that Muslim candidates were made
to answer questions on biblical stories
and denounced the imposition of bible questions on
Muslims. “We appeal to the governor of Oyo
State to order a resit of the CBT examination on
a level playing ground,” the association said.

The allegation was contained in a press statement
made available to pressmen yesterday by the
Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola.
The MURIC statement reads: “Muslims who took
part in the CBT examination organised by the Oyo
State TESCOM were shocked when questions on
Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK or BK)
surfaced among the questions.
“They had earlier received information that
candidates would be tested in Mathematics, English
Language, Current Affairs, Knowledge of Teaching
Education and the candidate’s special area. But
to their dismay, they found questions on CRK like
explaining how Moses was a shepherd to his
father-in-law and how Elijah was thrown into the
fire.
“These CRK questions have the potential of
putting Muslim candidates at great disadvantage
while Christian candidates are most likely to score
high marks. This will eventually lead to the
disqualification of Muslim candidates and the
employment of Christian teachers. The bias
becomes more pronounced when it is realised that
no Islamic knowledge question was asked to create
a balance.
“MURIC frowns at this lopsided arrangement. It
is grossly unfair to Muslims. It should be noted
that this is an exercise which has direct bearing
on the welfare of the candidates’ families. The
implications are far-reaching, including a calculated
attempt to impoverish Muslim families while
Christian families are enriched.
“We therefore reject the exercise. We call on
the state governor to order TESCOM to conduct
another CBT examination. We are astounded by
the level of Christianisation going on in Oyo
State agencies since the appointment of Christian
chairmen and directors.
“We call the attention of Nigerians and the
international community to this episode. It is a
pointer to what has been going on in most South
West states. Muslims have been turned into
underdogs. Unfortunately those who complain
among us are labelled as terrorists.
“We are threatened with assassination and
blackmailed as receivers of funds from terrorist
groups. All these in an effort to get those who
oppose the persecution of Muslims out of the way
so that the oppressors can continue in their evil
ways ad infinitum.

“For the umpteenth time, MURIC affirms that
threats of assassination, blackmail, character
assassination, falsehood and forgeries aimed at
implicating MURIC will not deter it from speaking
for the oppressed and marginalised Muslims
anywhere in Nigeria.

“In our concluding remarks, we denounce the
imposition of bible questions on Muslims. We appeal
to the governor of Oyo State to order a resit
of the CBT examination on a level playing
ground.”

Politics / Buhari To Present 2021 Budget To NASS In September – FG by captainjerry: 4:44am On Jul 10, 2020
As Finance Minister consults NASS leadership on 2021-2023 MTEF/FSP

***Buhari to sign revised 2020 budget today

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA- THE Federal Government told the Senate yesterday that President Muhammadu will present before the joint National Assembly, the 2021 Appropriation Bill.

Disclosing this year in Abuja while briefing principal officers of the Senate and House of Representatives led by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed said that President Muhammadu Buhari had directed the Ministry to expedite action on next year’s budget estimates to enable him to present the 2021 budget proposal

The Minister met with the leadership of the National Assembly on plans to submit the 2021-2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper (MTEF/FSP) later this month.

Ahmed further disclosed that in keeping strictly with the January – December budget cycle, the President will today sign into law, the revised N10.8 trillion budget for the year 2020 passed by the National Assembly in June.

The Minister said, “This for us is a journey towards ensuring that the progress that we have made as a collective to return the fiscal year to January – December is maintained for the 2021 budget as well.

“The President has directed that we must deliver the budget to the National Assembly by the end of September,” the Finance Minister said.

Ahmed while giving an update on the 2020 budget implementation between January and May 2020, stated that the Federal Government’s retained revenue was N1.48 trillion, an amount representing 56 percent of government’s target.

According to her, out of the sum generated as revenue, oil revenues accounted for N701.6 billion; non-oil tax revenues N439.32 billion; Companies Income Tax (CIT) and Value Added Tax (VAT) collections – N213.24 billion and N68.09 billion; and Customs collection N158 billion, respectively.

She said, “Other revenues amounted to N339.51 billion, of which Independent revenues were N80.22 billion. Recoveries and Stamp duty collected during the period are yet to be booked in the fiscal accounts.”

On Expenditure performance for the same period (January – May 2020), Ahmed who disclosed that N1.25 trillion was expended for debt service; and N1.32 trillion for Personnel cost, including Pensions, said that as at the end of May 2020, only N253.33 billion had been released for capital expenditure.

Ahmed while giving underlying assumptions driving the macro-economic parameters and targets of the 2021 – 2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework, said the same was “revised in line with the emergent realities.”

She stated that the Oil Price Benchmark for the 2021 fiscal year was pegged at USD$35; and USD$40 for 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Oil Production (mbpd) was placed at 1.86 for 2021, 2.09 for 2022, and 2.38 for the 2022 fiscal year; while the Exchange Rate remains at N360 to USD$1.

Ahmed stressed that “although Nigeria’s total production capacity is 2.5 million barrels per day, current crude production is about 1.4 million barrels per day – in compliance with the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries’ production quota – and an additional 300,000 barrels per day of condensates, totaling about 1.7mbpd.”

According to her, while the World Bank forecasts that crude oil prices will rise gradually from an average of USD$42 per barrel in 2021 to USD$44.5 per barrel in 2022; and USD$47pb in 2023, it is also expected that Brent crude oil prices may average $41 per barrel during the second half of 2020 and $50pb during 2021, climbing as high as $53pb by the end of next year.

“The nominal Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is expected to increase from N130,836.1 billion in 2020 to N132,125.4 billion in 2021 and then up to N138,415.8 billion in 2023,” Ahmed said.

Earlier, the Senate President in his remarks said, “this meeting is holding at the instance of the Honourable Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, and the main purpose of the meeting is for the Minister to brief the leadership of the National Assembly on the 2021 – 2023 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper.

“Therefore, it will not be wrong to say that the journey to the presentation of the 2021 budget estimates by the Executive arm of Government has started in earnest.

“It is our expectation in the National Assembly, that this journey will lead to the presentation or laying of the budget estimates by the President before the end of September by the grace of God.”
