Politics / June 12: Arrest And Prosecute Killers Of MKO Abiola – Activist, Orji Alexander by Change119: 10:20am On Jun 12, 2017
Right activist, Orji Chijioke Alexander, has called for the arrest and prosecution of killers of late presumed winner of June 12, 1993 Presidential election, Chief M.K.O Abiola.

Alexander, who is chairmanship aspirant for Ibeju Lekki Local Government in Lagos, made the call while speaking with reporters in Lagos.

He said Nigeria as a country has not paid due respect to what June 12 stands for, describing the action has ‘’shameful’’.

On 12 June 1993, Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola of the Social Democratic Party defeated Bashir Tofa of the National Republican Convention in the Presidential election, Presidential elections – the first since the 1983 military coup.

However, the elections were later annulled by military ruler Ibrahim Babangida, leading to a crisis that ended with Sani Abacha heading a coup later in the year.

MKO Abiola
Abiola would later die on July 7, 1998 on the day he was due to be released from incarceration under suspicious circumstances shortly after the death of General Abacha.

Alexander, who noted that past administrations have failed to honour late MKO Abiola appropriately, said the best way to immortalise and honour the acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential election is to bring his killers to book.

He called on the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari to urgently reopen the books with a view to bringing Abiola Killer to justice.

“Till date, we cannot celebrate June 12 until the issues concerning the death of M.K.O Abiola have been resolved, Alexander said, adding that “ we would have expected that the succeeding leadership would have done well to reopen all unsolved murder cases’’.

He lamented that till today; there has been no justice in the murder of some of the great Nigerian leaders.

Alexander, a social commentator recalled that murder case of Funsho Williams, M.K.O Abiola, Bola Ige and many others are still unresolved after over a decade.

Speaking on the Dele Giwa, who was killed with a letter bomb, Alexander said one would have expected that government would probe the murder case further following fresh evidences and wonders if justice would ever be served.

He said; “on Dele Giwa’s murder, there were fresh evidences at some points and were we hoping the government will probe further before such evidence are shred or destroyed permanently but nothing was done.

He said the nation will do well to go back to retrace its step by recognising what M.K.O Abiola stood for and prosecuting the killer of the winner of Nigeria’s 1993 Presidential elections.

Education / UNILAG MBA Coordinator Assaults Postgraduate Students by Change119: 8:17am On May 25, 2017
Students of MBA school of the University of Lagos are set to write a petition against the coordinator of the programme, one Dr. Olatunde Julius Otusanya for allegedly harassing some of their colleagues.

Mr Olatunde Otusanya, a Doctor at the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Business Administration in Unilag, is accused of bullying and harrassing postgraduate student of the school during examination at the Jibowu campus of the MBA School.

BreezeReporters gathered that on Monday, 22nd May, 2017, students were seated to write Production and Operation management examination but the exam was disrupted after Dr. Otusanya allegedly assaulted one of the students physically.

Trouble started when some students reportedly didn’t enter the exam hall 10 minutes before the commencement of the paper and Dr. Otusanya refused to give question sheets to the students as punishment for not following the instruction.

A student who would later be assaulted by the coordinator then stood, demanding that the students be given question papers to enable them start accordingly, a call which apparently angered the lecturer.

According to students who spoke with BreezeReporters in confidence, Dr Otusanya went physical with the student, dragging him in an attempt to forcefully evict the student from the exam hall.

Students lamented that “the MBA school of the University of Lagos designed for experience and matured professionals to pursue their academic and professional empowerment is now been turned into a mockery of a glorified secondary school due to the arrant disposition and standard of the faculties and instructors who manage the programme.

Speaking under the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the matter, the students described the incident as a “show of shame”, saying “the coordinator of the MBA programme, Dr. Otusanya, practically turned himself into a bully creature, harassing civil postgraduate students who were about to write one of their exams.

In a follow up statement sent to BreezeReporters, they said the lecturer went about the exams hall harassing any of the students who stood up against him while the ugly situation lasted, adding that the “whole exam hall became rowdy with shouts and threats from all corners.

According to the statement, it took the intervention of other sane lecturers, on hand to invigilate the exams, and some matured students on the programme, barely saving the day from the ignoble coordinator.

The Coordinator was also alleged to have slapped a woman during the exams of the same MBA school last session (2015/2016), because she came late into the exam hall.

Students blamed their maltreatment on lack of strong students’ unionism to speak for them, revealing that they are not treated as though as a major stakeholder of the institution.

The students have, however, vowed to take up the case with the school authority by strongly petitioning the person of Dr. Otusanya, and his capacity cum competence to lead the MBA School.

Politics / Why Nigeria Will Continue To Boil – LGA Chairmanship Aspirant, Alexander Reveals by Change119: 4:33am On Apr 30, 2017
Orji Chijioke Alexander, a right activist, has revealed why Nigeria will continue to boil amid various challenges facing the citizenry.

Alexander, who is contesting for the chairmanship position of Ibeju Lekki Local Government, lamented the increasing poverty across the length and breadth of the nation.

Speaking with BreezeReporters, Alexander noted that when there is inequality, the country cannot be peaceful.

“as long as the less privileged continue to be hungry, Nigeria will continue to boil, adding that the rich cannot sleep, as long as the poor are awake,” He said.

Alexander decried the attitude of Nigerians who celebrate corrupt politicians on the basis of tribalism. He also said Nigerian leaders are creating more division than unity with their actions and inactions.

The chairmanship aspirant said; “We live in a society where people lay claims that are not verifiable, we live in a country where people are confused whether the ills in the society is good or bad, where looting, corruption have become a way of life and people will become tribalistic about who get punished.

“Now people are beginning own thieves, you hear leave him, he is our man’’ he said.

Alexander called on Nigerians to stand firm against disunity and reclaim the Nation from the hands of leader who don’t want progress.

Accessing the present administration at the federal level, Alexander, who is also the deputy coordinator of the Buhari Youth Organisation, Lagos state Chapter, said he believe in President Muhammadu Buhari’s ability to fix Nigeria.

He, however, expressed worry with the influence of his party – the All Progressives Congress, saying the disunity in the party will hinder the Buhari’s performance.

“I’m a supporter of PMB’s current administration and his anti-corruption fight, however, I’m not in tune with the APC agenda’’

He added that it i]was obvious there is disunity in the party, saying this will affect the performance of the current administration.

Speaking on his agenda for Ibeju Lekki Local government area, Alexander noted that he is determined to lift the standard of living of the people by empowering them through vocational institution.

He disclosed that the past administrations had plunged the resources of the local government and challenged the past administrators to show evidence of what they did with the LGA’s resources.
