I would still insist they are removed. I myself remove even bonded screens, and they are tough! This is with me not being a windscreen specialist, as bonded screens are a specialist job.

With a colour change, it is imperative the screens ARE removed. Rubber shrinks and expands, according to the ambient temperature. So does glass. You will end up with the old colour showing at the edges after a while, regardless of how well it is masked.

It just seems off, that you're putting so much into this project car, only to mar it by painting around glass, rubber and any other trim.

Just my opinion, it's your car.
you are quite right man,
with regards to that, ill first check if the rubber parts for the exact windows are available here, cos if im going to take the windows out, ill surely cut it out cos the original rubbers are all caked in.

Did you finally contact the guy i gave his number?
yes i did!, thanks, but you wouldnt believe what happened that day.
I kept calling and calling, but for some strange reason i just couldnt get him, and while i was calling, i was walking around checking out other upholstery guys, so i found this guy and he wasn't doing a bad job on what he was sewing at that time so we discussed and came to terms.
And could you imagine that just as i left the mechanic village, i decided to give this guy one more call and it went through!, but it was late already so we just talked small.

Looking good, Chibzee. The upholsterer seems to know his stuff.

I trust the windows will all be removed prior to paint?
The front and rear windshields are really tight with the original window pane rubber and chrome fitting, so its going to be quite difficult to get them out without damaging the glass, and also im not really happy with the guys in the sense that they are all scared of trying out new stuff.
they'd rather stick to what they are used to,...so im going to cover the windows instead.

Forgot to mention that i totally tore the old interior out with the goal of having a clean fresh and new interior decor.
I also watch a video on YouTube by chris vallone( who asked me not to buy the beetle because of its initial bad condition) where he demonstrated how a roofing material called quick roof could be used to pad the interior backside of the beetle so as to reduce noise and excess vibrations from the engine, but also as expected, the whole mechanic village hadn't heard of such.
Honestly so many Nigerian so called mechanics have a long way to go.
I had to insist that he rugs the floor of the car as he wanted to use one kind yeye carpet like that,
so after much arguments and fruitless convincing talks with the upholstery guy, i decided to let him do what he thinks he knows best.
But nonetheless he sows nicely............like the color combo?....

BUT Alas i noticed that my front fenders were not at peace with each other.
The front right fender was just out of shape and on further examination, i concluded that it was not strong enough and had taken a lot of filler and therefore needed to be replaced.
Notice the difference........between good... and ...bad,
If not looked at well, one might think that my front left tyre was out of place

Car Talk / Re: Work In Progress (vw Beetle) by Chibzee2: 12:35am On May 17, 2015
seems the panel beater is done with his own part of the job, at least for now, and the painter just started doing something

Ghan Ghan Ghan!...... ezigbote resurrection.
Its all about the drive man....., have you got that inner drive to get it done, if yes, then its very possible to make that bug bang, but if no , then you fit start but might give up along the road or end up with something okay.
waiting for the engine pics though.

I downloaded this freedom app for hacking games and free in app purchases. I was warned that my google play store MAY not connect to the internet. Now its not con ecting. I even restored factory setting, its now worse cos I can't download cos I need to connect the tab to my e-mail address. I have cleared the Google play store cache. Still same problem. What do I do?
nothing, just make sure that freedom, the app is running in the background, and all your apps including the playstore will work

In my experience, when a chrome bumper is disfigured, there is no salvation except it is replaced.

Make e no go spoil the finishing of the car.
Abi, at least thats what the guys at the mechanic village think.
But then i made sure that the collisions that caused them to be disfigured did not affect the body of the car or at least was fixed.
Might go for some aftermarket fenders later on.

SEEING THIS THREAD, I'M CRYING BECAUSE MY UNCLE SOLD MY FATHER'S BEETLE #15,000 IN 2003 WHEN HE RELOCATED TO THE VILLAGE. HE SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT FOR ME........
Chai, ndo o, at least your dads own was sold. My dads own was burnt to the ground, courtesy of my crazy cousin.
Maybe thats one of the reasons why im doing what im doing now, to relive the good times.

@Chibzee2 nice job.... I've been following your thread with keen interest..... Good to know that some Nigerians are trying to restore the good Classic cars back to the Nigerian roads... grin

Surely dis VW Bug gonna be a head turner in the streets... Traffic and events shows

I wanna ask if you gonna do some modifications to the bug lyk putting on tint windows , racing stripes decals or giving the rooftop another colour different from the car body...
Thanks man, hope it doesnt turn so many heads so as not to get people injured smiley.
I really have no plans of doing any serious modifications to the car, just some minor touches here and there you know, like improving the braking system, some cool custom wheels, might do a little bit of a tinting on the backside and rear glass, some really cool sound system, install better shocks.........and and and definitely get rid of the v shapedness of the tires , you know and the list goes on, nothing too much just cool needed stuff.
maybe you could proffer some good ideas you know

OP are you retaining the OEM bumpers?
Dont think so man, unless some kind of miracle can be performed on them cos they both look somewhat disfigured.

So I wanted to strip the old paint off the car and I wanted to use a paint stripper chemical, anyone I could find, but unfortunately the whole mechanic village did not know about such a chemical. They always filed the cars that were to be painted.
So tried calling denn who's in Lagos to see if I could get one there but I couldn't get him, tried calling a few other people but no show, so I decided to go with the filling.
Now I wanted to file the whole car because I was pretty much sure that that was about the third or forth paint job that car had undergone in the past but the panel beater, the filler and the painter all advised I just file only the parts of the car that the panel guy worked on, so

My Dad owned a VW Beetle 1500. I loved the little car as a child and had (still have) respect for it. Its has the most basic technology that works. Its also the only reliable horizontally opposed engine surviving long after the Is and Vs were born.
I got me one in 2003. I rolled in it for 10yrs... It did drive plenty of girls away; practically kept me single throughout my uni days.
It saw 3 golfs and 1 Audi come and go and nearly welcomed my Camry.
I sadly let it go in 2013.
I kept it in good condition.. Changed the colours often..
@Op. Your thread gives me nostalgia. Weldone.
I experimented once with the 1.8L Passat engine but it was no good. In 2 months, it ruined the Bettle's 4-speed gear box.
Get a sound 1600 engine. For extra rev, mate it with a double carburetor from the 1800 bus engine (danfo).
Remember, there is also need to increase braking power when increasing engine power. You'd not be getting much brake upgrades considering the Bettle's brakes aren't servo-assisted.
Weldone once again!
Thanks man, nice ride, but if i were you i dont think i would have ever let it go.
lol @ practically kept you single throughout your university days cool

U asked for this so let me give it to u.

At least d children r still alive, but wat can u say abt children born wen vw beetles was produced. I guess they r all dead n buried nw cheesy

Anyway supporting a project of this magnitude dt involves extreme Investment of heavy resources without some reasons but fun might b irrational or simply one loosing his sanity. A sound mind shld b more productive with his resources. D project is wasteful n needless. I ve nt seen a vw beetle on d road in over a decade nw dt means its nw extinct like dinosaur.
Gazuzzu dnt let us derail this thread, this is my logical opinion, op n his followers must nt take it.

Mr ogwisdom, i dnt enjoy talking much talk more of writing much and i believe i answered you indirectly when i answered screwface, its my pocket you know. But Because you requested im going to say this again ........ITS NOT JUST ABOUT ANY CAR, THERE'S MORE TO THE BEETLE THAN MOST OTHER CARS. you think the project is wasteful and needless right? no problem thats your logical opinion but like you said i must not take it, so im not going to take it, thanks for letting us know your opinion though.
