A phone? At age 6? And someone said a droipad to help him study. Biko, what is he studying that's more than 1+2 and A-Z at this age?

I wouldn't advice you get the phone op, but for the sake of peace with baby mama, you can get him something that's not expensive. Preferably the educational gadgets like someone mentioned.

But then, baby mama is being over demanding like you said. It's a phone today, what will it be tomorrow and for how long will you continue indulging her? He's your son too, and you have a say in how he's brought up.

And which one of them made the kind of campaign promises buhari made and then turn around to blatantly and shamelessly flaunt and/or ignore them the way this administration does?

For every withdrawal, we pay
Deposit, we pay
Even same bank transfer, we pay
SMS alert, we pay
ATM card, we pay
Token for the transactions, we pay

Someone should tell me why I should have my money banked when they charge me for virtually every thing...yet, I no see interest.

Gtb is becoming the worst. Some days ago, they debited me 500 naira for nothing. I spent 300 naira to call them(because the stupid customer service kept me on hold for minutes on end), only for them to say I bought airtime from my account sometime last year and I wasn't debited then. So they are debiting me now. Gtb really

Eco bank will keep sending you credit alert and your balance will be reducing

Interest Credit = N10

SalC:

Believe me, this question is not just for the elders but for all of us.

You see, every now and then i see people preaching or at least striving to do God's will and worship him.
At closer observation i noticed it's usually for two main reasons.
1) Because we want to please him and thereby obtain the good things he promised those who serve and worship him here on earth and also to inherit his kingdom in the hereafter.

2) Because we are scared of disobey him and ending up in hell or being eternally destroyed as the case maybe.

Now my question is,..What if God never promised us any reward especially inheriting his kingdom or eternal joy. What if he never said anything about eternal damnation but only demand we do good and worship him because he created us and is deserving of our love obedience and worship.

Can we truly worship him if the above is the case?
To re-phrase, can we worship God without expecting anything in return?

I need personal answers.

I think the people that responded already said it all but since you want personal answers, let me try and add mine.

Like syncan said(abi Na uben, walahi these two people...), the sole reason we were created is your number one point. Our struggles and journey in this life is to attain that which God promised in the life to come, and loving God, pleasing Him and doing all he commands is the path God chose to achieve this. Like kamsy said, every action has a consequence or in this case, a reward.

The question "WHY" brings about another "HOW".

Q: Why did God create me
A: (to serve him in this world but ultimately), ...that I may be with him in the world to come.
Q: How do I achieve this
A: By knowing Him, loving him, pleasing Him, serving Him in this world...

So I think whoever is doing this is on point

No 2 follows no1. The thought of ending up in a place contrary to where God intended for us is and should be scary. However, I think what's worthy of note here is the fact that we fear the place(hell) instead of He who can condemn us to hell. We fear the thought or idea of the punishment and suffering in hell(which isn't bad cos hell isn't a good place) but I believe we should be more concerned about how we make HIM feel, who created us for a said purpose and even paid the ultimate price for our sake, yet watches us derail daily.

Your summary question therefore is valid because it all sounds like if we eventually do make heaven, we won't care to worship God again eternally since we have finally "arrived". Or if there was no option of hell and the choices were: either serve God and be with him eternally, or don't serve him and wander in void and oblivion eternally; I think alot of people won't care. Many will choose to do whatever they like on earth in the name of enjoyment and it all ends when they are dead.

So I think our fears are a little bit misplaced and if that's the case, I fear the answer to your question is NO. However, if we can (or do) understand that we please God for an greater purpose other than avoiding hell or just to get our petitions granted, we will come to love God more and serve him in truth and in spirit. Then your answer will be YES.

I rambled on for long, don't know if I communicated. Una Good afternoon o

Family / Re: Haggling Over Bride Price - Proper Or Not? by chikk(f): 6:34pm On Feb 26, 2017
BreezyRita:

I don't either so I'll make it short

You amuse me. Isn't that the same thing you are doing? You cannot state the original intentions of bride price in Africa. You just state what you believe which isn't what is....

I mention dowry and selling husbands and you dodge it to still go back and talk about bride price. Some poor prllbrides did not get married as they could not afford the dowry. Isn't that the same point you raise against bride price?

Well, neither am I.

Oh! So Europeans or Asians can collect bride price and Africans can't? You mean, they aren't sold too?

You may not understand but bride price didn't originate from Africa. And I don't even want to bring the Biblical aspect in. If we are arguing we should have the balls to call a spade a spade. If bride price payment is purchase of the woman in Africa, it is so in Greece, Asia etc

Like I said, people have different reasons for this. Of course, some of these aren't the real reasons and I acknowledge the greed in the whole thing. But hey! We're humans.
I know of my mom's boss whose daughters' bride prices were all five naira each. Now, they are all highly educated young ladies. What, they were sold for five naira? Seriously? I know the father gave a reason for collecting the money at all but I can't seem to recall. There are no right goods.

So am I

You sidestepped the issue of dowry and brought this up? undecided I still refer to the Indians. What happens to a woman whose family can't pay her dowry? It goes both ways.

I'm honestly tired of this argument.
Can we let it pass and stop derailing my thread??

Please ignore jor. Some efforts aren't just worth it. That is why we have high rate of molestation, physical abuse on women and ultimately divorce, because some men think they went to the market and "purchased" some commodity, or better still, slaves, to do with as they deem fit . God help and save us all

Wow! Now na everybody's pikin? No wonder it usually looks like they're feeding a whole local government.

You know, I've been trying to avoid an argument with you but they way you subtly insult others and make it look like you know all is annoying.

I'm glad you know what one thinks isn't really what is. First, DOWRY isn't bride price! There's a difference.

Now, tell us, what do you think of a woman's family, paying a specified amount to her husband-to-be? Like in India? They still selling him?

Bride price payment does not entail the purchase of a woman. I see it instead as a symbolic gesture acknowledging (but not paying off) the husbands permanent debt to the wife's family.

You see, people give different reasons for bride price. Some say it it allows the groom to demonstrate that he has enough financial resources to support the bride (and possibly her family) after the wedding.

In China for example, families privately cite the need for bride price due to the country's lack of a social security net and a one child policy which leaves parents with neither retirement funding nor caretaking if their only child is taken away as brides as well as testing the groom's ability to marry by paying cash and emotionally giving up his resources to the bride.

Publicly, families cite bride price as sustenence in case the man abandons or divorces the wife and that the bride price creates goodwill between families.

thank you... smiley
